I have no qualms referring people to this store. We've been shopping at the Carrollwood store for many, many years for our cats and fish and have never had problems with any of the staff. Now, the staff has changed over the years (except for the manager, Mimi, who is awesome), but no employee has ever ignored us or treated us rudely in any other way. Purchased the Vet Worthy Feline Nursing Kit. Kitten chewed off and ingested 3 of the 5 nipples from the kit. Called and spoke to manager, Dakota, with the hope that this product be removed from the shelves, explaining why. Manager Dakota could not care less. No sympathy, her voice uncaring as a non-humane person could be. The right manager for that business should be someone who loves pets of all kinds and really has a heart when told of a negative experience with their customer's fur baby. The store, as a whole, is well stocked with different products to choose from, but this review focuses on the poor customer service received from the store manager. If they can't make money off of you,they lie to get you in by saying money don't matter to us. You can pay later with small payments.vThen when they get you in they say that your animal as less than a hour to live and that you are being mean making him suffer. So of course they kill them for free because they couldn't make money off of you. They kept hurrying and pressuring a sweet teen that grew up with her pet to do it. We did and then later on found out that they have him a shot to make him sleepy so he'd seem out of it and that he could of been safed. The staff was cold and rude about it. The owners incourage this behavior and got nasty and rude as well. They felt that it was just an animal and we needed to get over it. The doctor has now moved to Beverly hills to live the good life and I would not be surprised if the nurse followed. I wish I had read the reviews first. If you don't LOVE animals then why open and business involving animals and leave them be. I hope that one day these people get treated like there lives don't matter. I don't understand why this place has such low reviews...but anyways my experience here and with other pet supermarkets have been superb. Have I have to choose between petsmart, petco and pet supermarket, I would choose pet supermarket all the way. Pet Supermarket is more high end compared to other pet stores. Reason is because they have a wide selection of premium quality dog food...and we go here to get food for our Kuma, the shiba inu. Compared to petco, who also carries Kuma's food brand, pet supermarket has it as a lower price. Other than dog food, they have a wide selection of premium cat food and an assortment of food for all of your furry/scaly/swimming/flying friends. Don't forget the assortment of toys and bones and bully sticks they have! However instead of getting toys here, its best to get toys from the dollar store as we all know they will be ripped up regardless. The perk about pet supermarket is that if you join their free VIP program, once you buy 10 bags of food within the year, you will get 1 bag of food for free. For us that means a saving of atleast $60 for a bag of food. And to save a bit more money, you should sign up for their email subscriptions as there are $4 off coupons or free nail trim coupons you can get. Another perk is that they have an affordable rotational vaccination clinic. So you can immunize your companion really cheap. As for cleanliness, pet supermarket is really clean. There is no foul odor when you walk in, and the hardwood floors are spotless. I have had no issue with the staff, and whenever I bring the doge (hehe) there has been no problem whatsoever. read more

I have been known to go to pet stores with my dog and spend wayyyy too much time and money shopping.... it's practically a pastime for us. Here, that wasn't the case. I really didn't feel like my dog was really welcome by the employees or other shoppers. Like another reviewer said, meh. Pet Supermarket carries my dog's special food, which is why I usually go here, but they didn't have the flavor she likes in the right size. I don't know if they were low in stock or just didn't carry it? At least the prices are decent. For now, I'll stick to the location on Fowler. read more

Ah, pet stores... I am a sucker for all of them. This is not my favorite pet store in town, but I tend to pass it frequently, thus I stop by. It is smaller than many pet stores, which has advantages and disadvantages. One major advantage is you can run in and pick something up quickly and usually exit quickly. Convince is a definite plus. I have found some staff very knowledgeable and other that can't tell me why the same product varries dramatically in price. There is a somewhere limited inventory and usually only 1 cashier. Your pick convince or time lost? What's a girl to do? I prefer convince & sales, so it is hit or miss for me. read more

Cool place for your pet supplies but kind of small. I've seen bigger and better ones for sure but overall a nice place. Never once had a problem with staff their always friendly and knowledgeable. I really like the selection and variety here for my cat and my dog. I never have an issue finding what I need and they even carry raw food for my dog which is a plus. I frecuente this store and am in their rewards program which is so helpful with discounts, coupons and freebies. They have a grooming salon and have shot clinics which they post about in front of the store. My only concern is customer service. I go in once a month and stock up on items and food for my cat and dog and the last few times as I'm checking out, there seems to have been few employees or none checking the front register, but I've been left waiting to pay and having to track someone down to ring me up. Other then that, I still visit, just hope the customer service improves or I come on a day with more employees to help me. read more

I took my dog in and was looking for a muzzle so I could take her ro the dog beach. She is not usually bad but the employees were just dumb! I ask for a muzzle and you put your hand over my dogs head to pet her!!!# she growled at her. OMG like they have zero training. I kept he next to me and bring her in to pick out her toys. The manager proceeded ro make an announcement to all in line that I have an aggressive dog and not to stand in line with me, led to dirty looks and snickers from other patrons. I took my baby and left. We don't deserve that treatment. Maybe if you didn't upset my dog, and try to pet her when obviously she is a rottweiler, you didn't ask permission, and you are terrible! ! I like this pet store because they give out coupons on a regular basis. My cats can only eat Natural Balance so I get their wet and dry food here. Plus the kitty litter I use is on sale a lot so I stock up during those sales. The same goes for the cat treats. I bought squirrel food and wild bird seed on this last trip and found the prices to be a bit more than where I usually get them (Lowes) but I didn't have to time to hit up both stores that day so bought as a convenience. I will stick to the other store for those 2 items. There are also birds and bunnies to buy and fish. There is also a cat rescue organization who always have cats and/or kittens to adopt there. I am tempted every time but already have my hands full with 2 kitties that don't always get along. read more

The staff are all friendly and you can tell they all sincerely care for animals. I enjoy saying hello to the cats ( and wishing I could take one home!) Every time I go. The have the grain free brand of dog food I get at the best price. PLUS If you're a member your 10th bag is free. Just make sure that if you usually buy large bags, to always buy large bags and never a small one or else the company can only offer a free small one. I had my dog in the car and was actually going to the drive thru liquor store next to the Pet Supermarket, but I decided my little buddy could use a treat too! So we went in, and immediately my dog started shaking and had an accident. He has only done this 1 time before, and it was at a kennel where he got a bad infection and we suspected something fishy going on, so I was immediately wary (animals can sense things). We picked out a bone and a plush toy, and went to pay. The girl at the register didn't greet me in any way except "what type of dog food do you use?" When I answered, she snickered and told me "yea, that's like...really bad...you should buy our food." And preceded to tell me how bad my choice of food is. Well guess what lady? I've been feeding it to my amazing, healthy, adorable dog for 6 years and never had a problem (and each of the 3 vets he has been to approve as well). Also, the day I take advice from an 19 year old wearing a scrunchie in 2014 is the day pigs fly. Store had OK selection and prices, but was dirty (other pet's messes on the floor...at least I had the decency to clean my pet's mess up) and the service was 0/5 stars. I had to keep my mind focused on the wine I was about to purchase to distract me from telling the checker off. Never going back! ROYAL PET RESORT & MARKET (I have no affiliation with them, just a satisfied customer!) is 5-10 min further north and my pup and I have ALWAYS had great experiences in both grooming and the store. I hope this place closes soon and they expand the liquor store or Cuban place! read more

The customer service is pretty terrible. I walk in and there are four associates at the counter and not one acknowledged me today. I come here all the time for crickets and you'll stand there for minutes and no one will come to ask if you need help. So, you have to go up to the registers all the time. I guess it depends on who's there too. There are some good associates on occasions. I try to avoid this location. read more

I usually spend $30 to $60 in the store. I just bought some fish there last Saturday. I didn't know they had a 3 day return policy..I came in on the 4th day from purchase. When I bought the fish I spent $46.90. The girl would not look at the fish nor offer a store credit for 2 fish that died...they were only worth $5, but its the principle. I will never spend money there ever again. Not now, not ever when so many other pet stores offer better return policies and service. read more
