Doesn't look like much when you walk past it but you are shocked when you open the doors to reveal a whole foods-esque pet store. Clean, friendly environment with knowledgeable staff. My dog loves visiting because he knows the staff will give him a cookie plus he is allowed to roam the store and pick out a toy or treat for me to buy him if it is not crowded. Great pet food and supply boutique! The people that helped me, a husband and wife (I think are the owners) were so knowledgeable! My small dog has a lot of allergies. So I went there to find some new options for a more natural food and maybe more treats. The lady that helped me gave me great pointers on how to help my dog. My dog went crazy over the food (see pic) and the treats she suggested. The treat was a cow esophagus (sounds weird, but my dog loved it!). I was also looking for natural oral gel for my dog. He didn't like the one I bought at the big box stores. The one she suggested, he really enjoys (see pic). Most larger pet food stores barely have anyone available to help you. I love to support smaller stores in the area, if they do a better job. This place has lots of natural choices for your pet. Brought my dog here for his first groom after being rescued so wasn't sure how he'd do, but they took such good care of him!! He was super matted from being a stray so they had to shave all of his fluff off, but I love it! They even called me while he was at his appointment to make sure it was okay to shave his fluffy face. My regular is the Grand Central location as I am always amazed at how friendly the staff is toward me and my dog. I also come to this location as they have a bathing room complete with three large tubs and sprayers to accommodate any size dog. The pricing for the self bathing station is also very reasonable and includes all of the shampoos, supplies, and dryer (if needed). This place is always clean and full of stock as well and there are plenty of specialty dog treats available, as well. read more

5 stars for this great little shop inside Duckweed Grocery. They are very helpful here and very dog friendly. They have a lot of homeopathic natural remedies for your fur babies. They also have high quality pet food. One of them that we actually have for my fur baby is Fromm. They also have treats, vitamins, shampoos, toys, etc. it is quaint, but has a lot of stuff to take care of your pet. I am happy that I stopped in. This was my first time ever getting my puppy groomed (no previous experience) so I did not know what to expect. Staff was very nice, but my puppy was not groomed at all to what I wanted her to be. I asked for her face to be trimmed, but by all means I did NOT want her face to be shaved and it was. The groomer did not ask me how I wanted her face to be trimmed or groomed, so I thought when I said I wanted her face "trimmed" it would be trimmed and not fully shaven between eyes and her eyelashes. I have a goldendoodle and she has a beautiful coat, I love her long puppy fur and her long face, and now it is gone and she looks like a completely different dog. Her eyelashes were the feature that made me buy her and it's going to take months to grow back. I am beyond upset I don't even want to take my dog in public. I also bought her a treat they offer at the counter and when I gave it to my dog it was totally hardened and inedible. I am just completely upset that I have to wait a few months for her her face to grow back, but don't even know how to fix the top of her head and beard to match when growing in. Since this was my first appointment/first time getting my puppy groomed and they knew that, they should have asked me if I have ever had any other experience with grooming. I didn't know what I was doing so I didn't know how specific I was supposed to be with my instructions. They could have asked me how I wanted to have her face shaped before putting a razor to it. Looking back on it I should have been more specific, but again how was I supposed to know how specific I should be. Overall I never want my dog to be groomed again by anyone. read more

Very friendly and caring staff. I called to get my black lab bathed and brushed because her shedding was uncontrollable and she smelled funky after a 3-day road trip from DC. I wanted to support small business so I was willing to spend more than I would than online shopping. I was blown away to discover that their prices were actually better than the online store! We use to love going to Modern Paws and having Oliver groomed by Christy she was excellent and patient... Meghan however is quite the opposite she is very impatient and does not understand different doggy personalities! Ever since Christy left Meghan's like an over worked teacher! Her students have to be perfect... Well she just cancelled my puppy's next 3 appointments and said find someone else until we can get a second groomer! This store is by far my favorite pet store in Tampa! We love the options of high quality food and treats offered as well as the supplement and vitamin section which many of the other local stores don't have. They have a great balanced selection of products across the board including leashes, collars, and toys. The staff is so friendly. We come here in part because the staff has taken the time to remember my name and remember my dogs name. I know if I have questions about products they will answer them honestly and knowledgeably. The hidden gem of the store is the incredible grooming! I haven't used the self wash but got my pup an appointment and it was the best grooming he's had in Tampa while also being the cheapest. He can be a nightmare with the blow dryer but the groomer was able to get him dry while still keeping the appointment on time which usually isn't the case. I had high expectations for this place and was let down big time. I took my down for her first real haircut other than the normal puppy cuts. Instead of getting the cut we asked for, the groomer just completely shaved her entire coat off. $100 to get my dog shaved for one is completely outrageous, two, it's not even close to what we asked for. Which upsets me because I see before and after pictures of a lot of doodle mixed type breeds on this page and none of these are close to the hack job done on our dog. I will never return here again. I ordered an Aussie Naturals chew toy from The Modern Paws for my new Australian Shepherd, Boomer this past Tuesday. We were scheduled to pick up the puppy from the breeder that Saturday. In my order form, I asked for the toy to be shipped as soon as possible, with the hopes of being able to bring it with us to pick up Boomer from the breeder and help occupy him during the car ride to his new home. Wanted to post a much deserved update. Stella and I visit modern paws multiple times a week and are ALWAYS greeted with a smiling face by one of the owners. My dog adores them! Stella got fixed today and the collar I purchased from them turned out to be a little too small. It's 8:30 at night, the store has just closed and they brought me a bigger size to my house and Ben blew it up for me. It's 2019 you guys and you can't find people like this anymore. I can't say enough great things about modern paws. Tampa is so so so lucky to have this addition. I will never shop anywhere else! Absolutely love this place and the new locations!!!! Not only that but I called around 5pm that I remembered I didn't have any food and he was super nice and explained could deliver the same day no extra charge and the price was even better... He came to deliver around 6:30 so super fast and I wasn't home yet, he offered to wait but I felt bad and told him to drop it off at my garage spot and he found a way to do so and left the package in a safe place, I got it and it has some samples inside for my puppy! If I could leave zero stars I would I have had absolutely the worst experience with this company. I have now brought my dog there three times and I will not go back again I've tried regular grooming and mini groomings both of which were not good experience. I've showed pictures and explained and very specific detail what I would like done to my dog when i drop him off and not once have they listened. I feel like the groomers just take the easy route every time, they don't care about grooming or how your dog looks they just shave thim as naked as possible to get the job done. Not once have i gotten a call letting me know they had to change a cut from what we had agreed on to shaving my dog naked. I could have shaved him like this at home with my own clippers but instead i brought him into the modern paws and paid $140 for the absolute worst haircut my dog has ever received. Upset is an understanding to be honest and I will not be returning to this place. My dog doesn't even look like himself. read more
