I've come here twice now when my regular veterinarian did not have room in their schedule to address an issue immediately. The first time was when my dog was injured -- it was not a visit worthy of emergency care but my dog was hurting and needed care and my "dogtor" didn't have openings for an entire week. Pet Vet saw her and did an exam to confirm she didn't need emergency intervention and then prescribed her painkillers to get her through until our specialist could see her. They were quick and thorough and didn't waste my time or money. I appreciate how to-the-point they were. I brought my dog in again just recently to address illness because once again my primary vet is booked up over the next week. My dog appears to have a tick bite that's become infected (even with preventive medication, yikes, please be careful folks). They took her in, did a full exam, ran a panel on her, and sent her home with antibiotics and instructions until our vet can see her. They'll even give the results to our primary vet. I can't say I'd see them as primary care (it seems they're more like a walk-in clinic), but the two times I've brought my dog here for acute issues, they've given us wonderful service, both pre and post-covid. Their prices are fair (vaccination cost here is awesome), and they do their job without shoving nonsense down your throat so I appreciate that. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in a pinch. 100%. They're quick without skimping on care, fairly priced, and they do the job they're there to do without the frills. read more

After I adopted a puppy from the Calumet Area ASPCA they gave me a coupon to this place for a free wellness check-up on the pup. I never would have thought to go here, hell, I didn't even know this place existed! The Vet and Vet assistants are so nice(I think anyone working with animals has a genetic predisposition to being excessively happy and friendly). The check-up was pretty quick, they gave her shots and tested for giardia (poor pup got a q-tip up her bum...). While waiting the assistants played with the pup and seemed genuinely interested in her. The prices are fair, for an exam(free voucher), 1st shots and a giardia test it only cost me $30. Not bad I think. The only thing I wasn't too happy with was the wait but, since it's only a small office and one exam room I can't really take points away for that. I went back for her rabies shot a few weeks later, and I do plan on returning for any other shots or tests she(Rella) needs. read more

I love this place and the docs who care for our pets. Granted it is not a full service clinic but I like being able to select the immunizations my pets will need and not paying a small fortune (we have 6 pets!!) That being said, their docs will always answer my many specific questions and guide me in the healthcare choices for my pets. PLUS, the Big Red Barn is close by if we need something more intensive for care. Love, love this place and honestly I could not have helped so many pets get out of shelters without the Pet Vet being available. Do get your pet a full exam every few years though at a regular veterinary practice. read more

This place is wonderful if you need something quick and fairly easy, as in a rabies shot or fecal testing. They have packages as well as ala cart services, so if you need a three year rabies shot, that's what you pay for (no office visit fee, etc). They also have two types of exam fees: a minor exam and a more extensive exam. I brought my senior dog in for a blood panel since she's on the older side. They were very nice in explaining what tests were covered by each tier of pricing. They're pricing was pretty much the same as my own vet for the bloodwork, so I didn't save anything there, however, the rabies shot was cheaper and I could just walk in. Win for me! What I don't like: You will not have a personal relationship like you would with a regular vet office. They probably won't get to know you or your dog, which can be problematic. The senior dog I mentioned? Dr. Claraan though it was a male. The Dr kept referring to her as a he--and when he reached underneath her he asked me, "When was he neutered?" And I said, "Well, she's a female so she was actually spayed." Even after that he kept calling my female dog HE which I thought was just a matter of not caring. The doctor also missed a golf ball sized lump on the back of my dog's neck, but his assistant noticed. The bump has been there for years, but that seemed sort of like a red flag that he was not at all paying attention during the exam I was shelling out $40 bucks for and a blood test that was costing me close to $200. I would definitely trust Pet Vet with the basics, however, for anything more than that make sure you have your own vet. This is NOT a full service clinic by any means. read more

When time for his shots again they want me to buy a package that has a 1 year rabies and all shots but not give me credit. Been here twice, as we adopted strays so they needed the works. They are great for a starter package, but as another reviewer noted, not good beyond that. The second dog we took in tested positive for heartworm. The vet called and said we needed to come back for a second test to confirm and we could discuss treatment options. We went back on a saturday (big mistake) waited over 2 hours because only 1 vet was on staff. Finally when we got in they were just going to draw blood and get us out, and I had to ask to see the vet. She went over treatment (over $1400 not including everything). She would not give out the sheet with the breakdown of prices for the treatment when we asked. Then they charged us $60 for the test, and another $40 just because we talked to the vet. I got them to remove that charge, because I was pretty pissed that I was being charged for something the other vet could have discussed with me over the phone. I called other nearby vets, who had no problem disclosing the cost breakdown. Prices from both places were around $700, HALF of what they wanted to charge at this place. This is not a boutique kind of vet, so not sure why they are so overpriced... but I think once people go there, they dont shop around and end up paying way more that they need to. read more

My first time taking my dog to a vet in the area. He needed some vaccines, microchip, and grooming. They are doing curbside still so we had to call once we were outside. The longest part was waiting for them to come and get my puppy, but it was at most 30 minutes. He was done in about 5 minutes. My pup was happy and it wasn't as expensive as nearby places so I'm happy! read more

Pet Vet is convenient and thorough! When my kitty wasn't feeling well they not only handled her gently but they also walked me through what the issue was and gave me what I needed to help her feel better. They are walk-in only but that doesn't stop this awesome group of people from taking time to call and email reminders for upcoming vaccination due dates. My favorite part about Pet Vet in Dyer was that the veterinarian that treated my kitten took time to help me understand everything she was telling me. read more

Well this Vet use to be a really good way for me to pay less for shots and heart medicine when they first opened. Now it is as expensive as anywhere else. And...they are the slowest people I have ever met. The vet and the crew were back in the office laughing up a storm as my husband waited and waited to be seen with our pet. He was the only one there and the process took almost an hour. I wait less time for my doc at Rush. The older lady vet talks way to much and holds the process up tremendously. One shot later and one hour later he finally done. They need to improved their service for sure. read more

RIPPOFF!!! Didn't know I could get my meds from a drug store and not sure if my cat needed the meds he sold me because my cat is not behaving as if he's sick....These people are absolutely in the business of ripping off their customers. Charged me $65 dollars for a medication that cost $30 dollars on Chewy.....Charged me 30 dollars for a medication, that cost $6 dollars, online, then charged me another 30 for an exam, although they advertise a free exam for kittens. I called to speak to the owner, spoke to her rude manager named Dorothy. In order to reach the owner, you have to tell your complaint to the employees and then the owner decides if you are worthy of her time. I had a problem with the non traditional medication being prescribed for my cat. Express that to Dorothy the manager, and she was rude, uncaring and unprofessional. I am not surprised because she never bothered to return y call. When I confronted her about not calling me back, she lied and said my phone wasn't accepting phone calls. In the last decade or so, not a single person has ever said this has happened when they called. I Asked for the owners voicemail, email address, telephone number, Dorothy's reply was to tell her my problem and she will pass my message on. So I am to complaint to you about how unprofessional you are being, how the doctor hustled me and trust you will relay the message. Ok......Anyway, ignore the owner's responses to the negative complaints. It is all for show.....I called after I had cooled down from being upset, and asked to speak to the owner, I received the same reply from another employee. The owner does not care about her customers, and this place is anything but affordable.. Believe it or not, it gets better.....The doctor comes out the first time and tells me my cats eyes are ok, but he has an upper respiratory infection. Oh ok, doc, but brought him here for his ears. "I didn't check his ears" was his response. ...Perhaps free kitten exam, means they are free not to the really examine your cat. I don't know.....but you get what you pay for I guess...Anyway, the doc comes a second time and says he needs to swab his ears....He comes out a third time, and now says my cat has this dangerous fever. My cat is still playing, eating, drinking, jumping on things, he's doing everything a normal cat does. We argue back and forth about him being ill, but not acting like it. Then the bill comes, $125 dollars for a cat that wasn't sick and for medicine that cost $35 dollars online....Run, do not go here, they are anything but affordable as you can see.......I will be warning everyone I know to stay away from this place and I know a lot of people. I belong to a lot of groups...I will plaster my review on social media, be sure to warn other families. I am going to start with a current customer of yours, make sure she doesn't return...With all of the layoffs, and how things are during this time Pet Express, decides now a good time to ROB people.....Really.....Smh It's a pandemic, and you are ripping people off, you should be ashamed of yourself.... (To the owner, no need to jump on here and pretend like you care, because you don't. You couldn't even take the time to speak to me,you sit and hid behind your employees. I wouldn't give them even one star! I had to wait 45 mins in an environment with sick dogs and hairy floor! After they gave a shot to my dog it was sick for a whole day! They didn't even warn me that the shot could have side effects. Beware that they don't accept appintments so you might have to wait for a long time like I did in an environment that could very well get your dog sick from other dogs. And also I called before going there to ask how much the shot was gonna be and they told me that it will be $20 something and when I got there they charged me $42 to be specific. It was the shot plus some other thing that I didn't ask for, plus they kept pushing it on me to get the cough vaccine. I will not be coming back to this place. I wish I could give them negative stars. I took my dog( a 10lb Chihuahua mix), I needed to get a checkup and all shots because I was moving across the country. After he received all of the shots and we got outside, he began to vomit, convulse and have diarrhea. I take him back in the doctor said he was having an allergic reaction to the shots HE administered and that my dog would need Benadryl so that he would not worsen. The doctor said: "I can help him by giving him a shot, it would be $23 extra." I walked right out with my dog still lethargic, vomiting and shitting. I carry Bendryl in my purse and administered it myself. This hospital watched my dog get sick and offered to fix him for more money. This place is a sham and should be shuttered. Took my dog there for a heart worm test and nail clipping. After being told I couldn't have my dog tested because he wasn't due for a month, they came back and said oh well we can test him. I was out of heart guard so I needed the test done to get the prescription for heart guard. After waiting over an hour we were called back. They did the test. The vet was rude and condensing. The vet offered me a medicine I never heard of said its what they recommend. I said no. I wanted the prescription for heartguard. She went on and on about what she recommended and how I needed to use their pharmacy. I told her I just wanted the written prescription and be on my way. She went to the computer and put in the prescription thru their pharmacy, after I told her a few times I didn't want to go that route. When I told her AGAIN I wanted a written prescription so I can order the heart guard where I have ordered it for the last 18 years I have had dogs. She went on a rampage about why I needed to order thru them and other places are bad... Blah blah blah... At this point I was so angry she was pushing her services down my throat and as a paying customer she wasn't listening to what I was asking for. She reluctantly printed the script for me, while talking under her breath to the other ladies. Unprofessional and rude. She was awful!!! Then the techs when cutting my dogs nails made him bleed. It wasn't worth the hour wait. I went there to save a few bucks but learned a lesson. I'd rather pay $100 more going to a qualified vet who will listen and care for my fur baby then go back to those awful people at pet vet. Terrible. Not even worth one star. That female Vet there shouldn't see animals. She was pushy,rude and I would never go back there or refer people to go there. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE ! If I could give no stars, I would. Save your money. This place was horrible. I called in and asked how much it would be for both of my dogs to get checked out, get their shots, blood work, etc. I was told 110. I said 110 for both? She said, yes 110. I said ok, I will be there shortly. I arrived, my dogs got what they needed. As she rings me out she said your total is 220. I said, I called in and was told it was 110, for both. She said, sorry but it's 110 each. I explained it was unfair to make me pay double, especially it being holiday time, & because I was told 110. The two ladies at the desk both expressed that they wouldn't call their manager because she would just tell them to make me pay the 220. I continued to say I don't think I should have to, because I only brought 110. She eventually called her manager, her manger said if I wasn't willing to pay the 220, they'd call the cops on me. So I said, that's fine, call them. She then went into back, I guess spoke with her manager again, & came back with this. " you either pay the 110, get nothing to prove They got their rabies shot, You don't get any results back from the blood work they took, you can't come back for the additional shots & I can no Longer return. OR they'll call the cops." So I paid 110, to get threatened to get the cops called on me, for my dogs to get stuck in the neck and get blood work, for them to not even give me my results!!! Can't return to get the two additional shots they are both supposed to receive. Just sad, simply wanted to be sure my dogs were ok... Just don't go. Simple. He then goes to reply saying that I basically went in their with the intentions of doing what I said happened. Great. & then follows with" this is not something a team member would make a mistake of. " well she did. & I had to pay the consequence of HER miscommunication. I have NO need to lie. If only we can trace the phone call! read more

We have been taking our dog there for her annual checkup, shots, heartworm tests etc since we got her four years ago for their $99 special package for dogs under five years old. This past October we paid an extra $30 to get the full blood panel they recommend for dogs five & older as she would be five December 2016. THEIR $99 PACKAGE NO LONGER INCLUDES THE VET EXAM. WHO THE HELL GETS A 30% RAIAE IN ONE YEAR TIME FRAME???????? Prior year during vet exam ($99 package) Vet found a broken tooth that needed to be removed. It was a one root tooth as dogs have one, two & three root teeth which the more roots the more the cost of extraction. Their estimate for removal was between $600 & $800. We took her to Animal Welfare League & with the cost of a sedated teeth cleaning & tooth removal it was less than $200. Again, who the hell gets a 30 pay increase over a one year period of time. Took my previous dogs here for rabies shots, was very happy with everything. Got a new puppy went on 3/3/17 to get the second set of puppy shots (the first set were given by the breeder), they wanted to sell me a package which I did not need, we agreed to give just what was necessary. Took my puppy to get his rabies on 3/17/17, no problem. Went 3/31 but was too busy so I went back today 4/4/17 to get the third set of puppy shots. The vet before he gave the shot said " you have to come back in 3 weeks for a booster to the Lepto shot", I said "no, this is supposed to be his third set of puppy shots, the last one". He said, "well after we give the shot, she (the tech) can check. Why was my puppy given something I did not ask for? I wasn't asked if I wanted anything more than the third set of puppy shots. I wonder did my puppy get the third set of puppy shots or just the Lepto? I was expecting to pay the $24.00 not the $42.09 which is supposedly a combo of both shots. Do I need to take my puppy to get his third set of shots to be protected, every other dog I have had got multiple shots if more than one type was given. Today my puppy got one shot. Makes me very uncomfortable. I know there is NO WAY my puppy will be going back for anything. read more

I took my cat for rabies shot month ago. The staff were very friendly and they charged very acceptable price for the shot. I took my cat for worms issue again. This is the only place that just let me walk in and get everything done in a few min. I went to petco and they didn't have pet vet there. I went to pet smart after but they asked me to make an appointment first. I came here. They just asked some normal questions and got my cat tested. They only charged for $20 for test and $14 for medicines. I'll definitely come back again!! read more
