I went to Dr. Yohai due to severe double vision. After a thorough examination Dr. Yohai told me that I had significant strabismus in both eyes. A complicated situation that required surgery. The surgery is not lasik or computer assisted. Its success depends on the personal skill of the surgeon. What could be more perfect that a skilled surgeon who is a perfectionist! That's Dr. Yohai. Doctor Yohai was rude and abrasive for no apparent reason. He did not speak to me. He spoke to his recorder as if I wasn't in the room. I was refered when I was having trouble with my visual fields. He did nothing charged me $$ and then sent me back to my referring doctor. I was sent to another very professional opthomologist who discovered the problem. Don't go to Dr Yohai.... My Bad Experience. Dr. Robert Yohai did cataract eye surgeries on both my eyes. His surgery left me with visual impairments, lots of glare, and a permanent vision flaw of flickering, jumping vision in one eye and he told me he couldn't fix this and I will just have to live with it. I have to keep closing it to focus on things making writing this difficult with only one eye open. I wish I'd never gone to him. And he didn't seem to even care about what he did to me. read more

The Greatest Dr and clinic I've EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE! I had an emergency last night with a stuck contact lense that I cldnt get out , after 2 hours of trying , I managed to give myself a huge eye ulcer and my entire right eye was swelling shut and turning red and the pain I felt is indescribable. By the grace of God, I some how got Dr Yohais office number, and when I called up there , the gal on the phone could not have been any nicer. When your going through something that you've never experienced before , like an eye injury ,it's really scary , i wasnt sure if I completly destroyed my eye by digging at , but it sure felt like I did . She helped so fast. Got me set up for an appt , the same day too . She was so helpful and appreciated. When I got to his office , the first thing I knowtice was the chill atmosphere. Then i noticed a super cool Labrador , just hanging out , saying hi to everyone , I just loved it . Made my super painful eye issue , seem not so bad in the moment. The nurse that came in to help me was also very friendly. Then Dr Yohai came in and he was so GREAT! the entire experience cldnt not have been better . If you have dry eye, Dr. Yohai is not the right doctor for you. He was the first doctor that I went to, and he provided the initial diagnosis: Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), Stage 3+ (it has a total of 4 stages). He stated that many of my glands had atrophied, there is no cure, and the condition would progress. This is a very painful condition that significantly impacts your quality of life. He recommended eye drops and warm compresses as the treatment. Period. The FDA had not quite approved Restatis. I went home, a dry eye newbie in shock, and began a research campaign. I realized that Dr. Yohai made no attempt to identify the root cause. When I told my family doctor, she at least tested me for auto-immune diseases, which is a first step. I realized that Dr. Yohai also did not mention the gamut of treatment options that I could pursue, presumably because he does not offer them. There is a Lipiscan for the meibomian glands that looks like a detailed x-ray (it's very cool). This showed that I only had 20% gland loss. I landed upon IPL treatment followed by manual gland expression. The doctor who did the IPL said that I had MGD caused by loss of testosterone and also ocular rosacea. He did not give me a dire diagnosis like Dr. Yohai. The IPL sessions/gland expression provided me with great relief! Dr. Yohai did not recommend moisture chamber goggles which provided relief as well. I pursued the other doctor's comments regarding low testosterone, and began taking DHEA which the body turns into testosterone (among other hormones). This resulted in a huge improvement in my symptoms. Within 6 months, my eyes were literally back to normal. And as long as I take the DHEA, do IPL once year, and warm compresses, I have no symptoms. But let's be clear, I suffered for well over a year before a doctor provided the root cause and an appropriate treatment plan. Dr. Yohai simply handed me a devastating diagnosis with no alternatives and sent me on my way. And for quite awhile, I actually believed it. read more

This is a comfortable, friendly, but also effective practice. Dr Yohai is a kind and thoughtful doctor, and I would recommend this practice to anybody who needs compassionate eye care. I'm a relatively new patient - have seen Dr Yohai twice. In the first visit, he quickly determined that the prescription I'd just gotten from my previous eye doctor was wrong (in fact, I sought out another opinion because I thought it was wrong). During the examination he also discovered that I'll soon need cataract surgery. All through this, he was careful to explain in detail what he was doing, and what I needed in the future surgery. All done at my level, not assuming I was unable to understand the more technical aspects of what he was discussing. I read a lot, so I already knew a bit about cataracts, and he adapted his discussion to fit in with what I already knew. I always respect that in medical professionals. My second visit was for a huge floater that suddenly appeared. His office staff got me in fast, and the exam was extremely thorough. Then he proceeded to explain in detail what had happened, and what I can look forward to, since there is no treatment for floaters. Finally, let me say that his wonderful dog, who "participated" in the exam, was a big plus for me. It's well known, through actual studies, that pets can ease the tension of people with medical problems, and that was certainly true for me. read more

This was my first time seeing an ophthalmologist and it was absolutely one of the best experiences I've ever had with any doctor, which is why I am also making this my first Yelp review... I highly recommend Dr. Yohai and his team! I needed a last minute appointment for sudden pressure behind my eye and called Friday morning upon a recommendation from a local optometrist and was able to be seen by Dr. Yohai that afternoon. Dr. Yohai's team was very nice and welcoming even while I rushed to finish up a work email as they called me back to the exam room. Dr. Yohai asked questions and explained everything he was doing during the exam and then left the room and his assistant helped make me comfortable as my eyes were dilated. He also had her call the radiology team he wanted me to see to confirm that the dyes they used for scans were safe for me since I was breastfeeding. While waiting, I heard Dr. Yohai call my insurance company to make certain that I would get in for a CT scan ASAP and not via the Emergency Room which would cost me and the insurance company way more $$$. He was adamant and firm with the insurance company that this was not something that should wait and insisted that they approve an appointment for me. After being on the phone with the insurance company for about 30 minutes, he secured me a last minute appointment for a CT scan on a Friday evening! He also called ahead to the team there to let them know he would need to see the films that evening so to release them to me. He even gave me his phone number to let him know the status as we both hoped I'd be able to return to his office by 5pm. At 4:45 I let him know I was on my way back and he said not to worry, I didn't need to rush. When I arrived at his office he was already on the phone with the radiologist discussing the scan images. He then called me back, gave me a diagnosis with a thorough explanation and I even got to see the scans. He set up a plan for an ongoing issue and double checked that my prescriptions were safe to use while breastfeeding. In sum, Dr. Yohai went above and beyond what is to be expected of a doctor and he did so with a genuine concern for my health and financial wellbeing. At a time that was very scary it was clear I was in competent hands. He could have shrugged off the insurance company's red tape, he could have had his receptionist call for him and get the runaround, (especially on a Friday evening) or he could have just sent me to the ER so he wouldn't have to deal with any of it, but he didn't. I wish all doctors were like him! Also, an added bonus, his dog Buddy is often in the office and he is such a happy addition to the office atmosphere! read more

I don't often write reviews for doctors, but since Dr. Yohai is a specialist, I felt compelled. I have been seeing him for a few months now. He did a surgery on my orbital and it has turned out really well. I am still waiting for some of the swelling to subside from my early-September surgery. His explanation of the surgical process is very clear and his staff answered any questions I had on the phone if I forgot to ask in person. It is also very easy to get a hold of him at the office if needed. On surgery day, you can talk to him and ask him any lingering questions. He goes over the procedure once more and introduces you to the nurses and anesthesiologist. Bonus points on Buddy and free parking downtown. Being so close to work, I can walk to his office in less than five minutes! read more

Dr. Yohai came highly recommended to me and I've been his patient for over a year. As a Registered Nurse who has worked at several major Bay Area hospitals, I have seen a lot. I have had the unique opportunity to work with the best doctors in their specialty. Dr. Yohai is one of them. He is a master of his craft, professional, patient, extremely caring and above all, supportive. Very disappointed in the staff, the unprofessional demeanor of the physician and the outcome.. My experience was if it can go wrong, it did. Insurance issues, payment issues, less than satisfactory outcome and no real resolution, other than to recommend more surgery, when what was done did not really address the initial problem.
