Excellent restaurant. Went here for dinner with a group and had a reservation. We started with orders splitting the melon and prosciutto and it was very nice, they made each of our plates dressed up with the app split for two. Pretty arrangement and tasty, but this is a pretty small app to split. I had the pork belly and scallops as the main. It seemed like a bit of an odd combo, I was thinking this will either really work or really not work. Well it does really work. Very savory and flavorful. The scallops were great. The pork belly was a bit fatty for my liking but it was tasty too. I had the key lime crème brûlée for desert and thought it was tasty but not something I'd get again. I had a nice Pino Noir to drink with dinner. Service was attentive and helpful. Petar's is a worthy destination dining choice. read more

Had dinner early in the evening. Not a very large restaurant, seating consists of traditional tables and a long bar facing t he r open kitchen and a couple tables outside. There is also a traditional bar. Clean decor with intimate lighting without being dark. Everything is aka carte. Daily specials in addition to the menu. I had mussels as a starter which were the best mussels I think I have ever had. A full bowl in a suburb broth the mussels were plump juicy and not overcooked. You could give me a bouillon cup of the broth and some oyster crackers and I would've been happy too. My wife had the roasted beet salad and for our mains, I opted for the homemade ravioli that was stuffed with beef short rib meat covered with a beef glaze and puréed squash. My wife had the lasagne which is baked in its own crock and served with a plate to put it on after taking it out of the crock. I had a perfectly made Chopin martini and we both had wine from the selection of wines by the glass in the cocktail menu. All wines in the separate wine list are by the bottle. We topped it off with tiramisu which is made in its own round cup. Service was good, drinks came out promptly and one of the principals stopped by to ask how everything was. Thank you Yelp! We picked this tony spot after reading the consistently excellent reviews. We were not disappointed...as a material of fact it exceeded all our expectations! The four of us sat at the chef's table and along with a fantastic meal, we interacted with the chef/owner Petar and his wife and our server Casey was a gem! The restaurant is smallish - soon to change :) with the kitchen along the left . And counter seating and tables along the right side wall. The chefs table is situated inside the front door to the left and can seat 4-6. It's cozy and a contrast to the little strip mall in which it is located. Chef Petar Al Kurdi learned to cook in his native Bulgaria before traveling Europe, whisk in hand. He came stateside to work at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples, where he spent four years perfecting his techniques and presentations. He and his wife Ana have worked together in NY, and the Cayman Islands before opening this spot. It's hard to understand the whining about it being expensive when you factor in the quality of the ingredients and care taken with the staff and space. It's worth every penny and then some! The wine list is carefully curated, although it lacks vintages, and covers the globe. If you wish to BYO, the corkage is $30 for wines not on the list. We brought one and enjoyed a lovely Merlot from Swanson in Napa. The food you ask? Boom!!! The crab cake was super fresh and full of perfectly seasoned crab, served over a bed of mango papaya salsa and lemon aioli. The homemade gnocchi and pork belly featured ethereally light pillows of pasta with grilled pork belly served in a light tomato cream sauce that needs to be bottled in huge jars for take-home! Our entrees- lamb chops, lasagna and sea bass were all excellent and perfectly executed. Absolutely fantastic. Wish it was closer than it is to home. Bravo!! read more

Listen here, Yelp. Usually I can trust you, especially your Elites, to guide my gut somewhere tasty. This place, unfortunately, really missed the mark on a Saturday night. And boy do I have some gripes for this place that I was very excited to visit, and very excited to heap praise upon. First off--we had to wait almost an hour for our reservation. They put us at the bar, and we ordered two (of their decent, but priced at $18) cocktails while we waited. After 30 minutes one of the hostesses apologized for the wait. After 45 minutes we were seated at one of the counter seats. Wait staff...not impressive. Server told us about some of the specials, and left off others that I heard about while sitting and waiting at the bar. Standouts included the ceviche ("saveechy") with the "fully cooked shrimp," as well as the boast that "everything is fresh!" Well, golly gee wiz, lucky us! However, no bread until we asked for it. No apologies for the oversight. Second round of cocktails brought to the wrong person. Hostess asked if everything was ok when i had already finished my dinner. And the food?!? Food was ok. Crab cake app was the best thing we had, minimal bread crumbs, accompanying pineapple salsa was fine. Beet salad was fine. Short rib was mostly jus flavor, meat itself forgettable. BUT... if I pay DOLLARS for the fish special ("tripple tail" with two P's on the bill), I'd like for it to have some sort of...flavor. Cooked well. Good crust. Yep. But as bland as a Gap khakis commercial from the 1990s. Dessert was key lime crème brûlée. Also fine. This was our first time here, and I know they expanded fairly recently. A lot of the misses here could be attributed in part to growing pains from their manifest destiny of taking over more strip mall real estate. I get it. However... the service was severely lacking, especially given what they're charging. If this were Restaurant Wars, the front of house would be going home (but still have the chance to return via Last Chance Kitchen--shout out Kristen Kish). Suggestions: If I'm waiting more than 30 minutes for my reservation? Comp my drink. I'll order more, don't worry. If you forget my bread? Own up to it, apologize, don't just drop it off and scurry quickly away. Maybe make sure I get to hear about ALL the specials that you've having that night, and don't rely on a server that is clearly overwhelmed with the evening. I recommend printing out the specials nightly--cuts down on human error. Will I be back? Maybe. But if this place is PeTardy's once again, I'll steer clear thereafter. Wife wanted me to give you one star, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. This time. read more

The tables inside are very close probably to maximize crowd accommodations, but resulting in a very loud and noisy dining room. So, if you want good food, go there; however, if you are interested in a pleasant dining experience as well, it is not the place. And reservations don't matter. read more

Unexpectedly tucked in a strip mall, I was suprised to find such a quality, family-owned restaurant. The place is compact, but gives a cute, almost Parisian feel, especially with the outside seating. Everything is made fresh, so you'll find the menu changes frequently. The servers are also very knoweldgable about the menu and caring. If I lived down here permanently, I probably wouldn't write this review and try and keep this place a secret because it's that good! We called around 3 pm to try to either make a last minute reservation or inquire about what type of wait we could expect around 6 pm. No one answered but not even a minute later they called right back and we were able to make a reservation for the bar. The hostess was very pleasant and friendly when she called back and we were impressed at the attention they pay to someone that isn't even a customer yet. We got there right at 6 and were instantly greeted with a smile. We were seated right away and greeted by our waiter Jack almost immediately. He was friendly and knowledgeable with a nice low key demeanor. The bar seat was amazing as we enjoy watching how the line works and this was a truly exceptional line. The cooks were very efficient and the head chef expedited everything with a scrutinous eye. Every member of the team worked together, and never stopped moving throughout the service. We had the corn chowder, crab cake, short rib, and berry crepe. Everything was fresh, cooked to perfection and "lick your plate" good. While this was my first visit, I can't say one critical thing about our visit and greatly look forward to going back any time we are in SW FL. read more

UPDATED REVIEW 8/2021 We recently returned to Petar's after almost 2 years and are very happy to report that the service, atmosphere and the food were as delightful and much more so than we even remembered. My husband and I had the watermelon gazpacho and I am counting the minutes to have this incredible creamy and exquisite delight once again. This is by far one of our favorite restaurants. We were in Naples 2 years ago and found Petar's Restaurant and absolutely loved it. Flash forward 2 years later and decided we must go again. Everything was as good or better than I remember. The service was top notch and the food was amazing. Limited menu so everything is fresh that day. We had tuna, corvina, dessert crepes and crème brûlée. Comfortable setting, upscale casual dress. Prices are moderately high but for the food quality well worth it. I am already planning our next dinner there. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

We stopped by Petar's Restaurant on our way back from Clearwater based on the 5 star reviews we've read. I normally choose places that have a minimum of 4 stars because if I am going to pay high dollars to eat somewhere, the food better be worth the money. After scrolling through the reviews, I stumbled upon some one, two, and three star reviews. The chef's retorts were not the most pleasant, so I was a little scared going in to eat. Is the chef going to come at me with a knife and stab my plate upset if I did not like a dish like they do in movies? Are we going to have a scene? Is he going to watch me eat and analyze my facial expression while eating? It is an open kitchen. My imagination went wild lol. All jokes aside, we had a great time. The food was absolutely delicious so Petar's really deserves the 5 stars. Our food was an explosion of decadent flavors and colors. We ordered the Corn-bacon chowder and the Oysters Rockefeller pictured here. Clearly the chef/owner is passionate about his dishes and it really shows in the presentation and the taste. The oysters were the part of the day's specials so not sure if they will have them all the time. My husband had the beet salad as his entree and I had another day's special which was the corvina also pictured here. The butternut purée was velvety and smooth, the fish cooked to perfection, the salsa topping gave it a fresh and exotic flavor, and the vegetables complemented the dish perfectly. The bread they serve is made daily there as well and is just so good. The hostess who is the chef's wife I believe was very pleasant and friendly. She seated us even though we did not have a reservation. It was already very busy even though they had just opened for dinner. Our server Casey was lovely as well and very professional. So overall, our experience was well... unexpectedly wonderful! As I said before, my brain had created a whole movie scene like "Chef" with Sofia Vergara. Spectacular from the reservation process onward. The front of the house knows how to organize table flow, it was impressive on a Saturday night to watch multiple large parties all ascend at the same prime time (7:30-8). The specials were a second menu and each course came quickly. Enjoyed the roasted beet salad special and short rib ravioli appetizer (2 massive raviolis with a blended veal sauce and butternut squash purée which made for a smooth finish). Enjoyed another wonderful experience at Petar's. This time I brought my daughters and two granddaughters. We sat on the patio. I was worried we might be a bit forgotten outside, but that was not the case at all. Service was as attentive as ever. I ordered the crab cake with a side of fresh roasted veggies. It was very good. My daughter ordered salmon and she said it was the best she's eaten. She and I shared the beet salad special. It was delicious. The kids shared corn chowder and buttered noodles...not one complaint. The food is so good but it is more than the food at this restaurant. It is really about how much they care about their customers. We saw what seemed to be many regulars there last night.
