Got a table quickly together, took drink orders as everyone arrived. Had separate checks for couples and individuals and food came out timely and delicious. Quite a few at the table had the bottomless mimosas, and Bloody Marys and our waitress was right on target and did not miss a beat. Golden Grove Kitchen has really good food with generous portion sizes and plenty of options on the menu. The Nashville hot chicken with the Mediterranean fries were fantastic. Our waiter was excellent and didn't question any of my odd requests (barbecue sauce and fried chicken on mac & cheese). Norway lost the World Cup while we were there, but it wasn't their fault. The only thing I found odd was having to scan a QR code to pay instead of getting a check. Hopefully, they are not stealing our information. I will come back. read more

Had the turkey dinner and the turkey was ok, the gravy was overly salted. Service was marginal at best. I've been here twice for breakfast and it was ok. Twice for lunch and the spicy chicken sandwich was great. If I'm not coming back for the chicken sandwich then I probably won't be back. read more

The main menu includes many American favorites like meat loaf and turkey with Thanksgiving sides. A separate menu includes many Greek diner staples. Service was quick and to the point. Though it was around 5 pm the snowbird crowd was streaming in. I ordered a gyro platter. It was VERY generous! There was so much meat I had to take a box home. Unlike other platters this one was kind of do it yourself with the onions, feta, dressings and bread all served separately. Priced at $17 I felt this was a pretty decent value. Breakfast yes, dinner... meh. Unless you're getting a burger for your entree, I've honestly been a bit disappointed with the entree's I've ordered. The biscuits are great, the appetizers have been great, and the dessert is delicious. Unfortunately they don't do the poke bowl well with poorly cooked rice and lack of marinating/seasoning any of the ingredients, nor the hibachi salmon, nor the corned beef and cabbage, nor the chicken parmesan (which was confusing, the sauce was not good for the chicken parm with banana peppers(?), but the meatball sauce is amazing) . I noticed AI slop art on the wall which was disappointing and cheapens the look they try to go for. Breakfast is great though, it's strange how hit or miss it can be. The service is good. read more

Golden Grove Kitchen, formerly Mel's Diner, opened yesterday. We were waiting for them to open, since we're familiar with Mel's. When we walked in, we had the door opened and were seated quickly. For new decor, they added tray ceilings, some brickwork and new carpet, but it looks pretty similar to Mel's. The menu has a variety of sandwiches, salads and dinner options, with a reasonable price. Our server Melanie mentioned The Grove buys locally sourced, so everything is fresh. This is good news, farm to table is the best and supporting local farmers is the way to go. My choice was the grilled cheese, ham and tomato sandwich, it was delicious on grilled buttered bread. Hubs got the French dip with onion rings and slaw. I tried an onion ring, it was very tasty, especially with the dipping sauce. We both liked the sandwiches, the food is good and we heard the kitchen chef came out to a table yesterday to remove the bones of a grilled Bronzino. This is a personal touch and the kind of service you'd expect to see in a fancy restaurant. We enjoyed having lunch here and chatting with Melanie. Five stars for The Grove and their servers and we look forward to coming back soon. read more

This was a letdown from the old Mel's Diner experience. The menu was similar, but smaller. The service was good - we were seated promptly and our waitress was nice and took care of refills and such like as you'd expect. The food left something to be desired. We were given a plate of 3 biscuits. They were very small and one of them I had to use a steak knife to cut through. It was very much like sawing through a piece of oak. All 3 were hard, but one was more like a rock than a biscuit. That's fine, we didn't pay for the biscuits so I didn't really care if they were subpar. I had the $17 pot roast - it was luke-warm at best and slightly mushy, as if it had been overcooked and then barely reheated to serve. The portion was 99% meat with one carrot and some gravy. I ate the warmish meat and kept the issue to myself so I would not prejudice the thoughts of the rest of our dining party. The caesar salad was OK - a bit heavy on the dressing, but that didn't bother me too much. My wife said it looked like way too much dressing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My wife ordered the Mediterranean chicken salad. It was supposed to come with pita bread but did not. She didn't ask for it. Not after the biscuit episode. She said the salad was OK. I tasted the chicken and it was not a great flavor. Under-seasoned or poorly seasoned. I'm not sure which. Not good. She didn't finish it either. Finally, my daughter had spaghetti and meatballs. Now this girl goes to Olive Garden when they have the never-ending pasta bowl and plows through as many as FIVE bowls of pasta. She is a pasta connoisseur. Here, she ate maybe half of the dish. She said it was "mid" which is high school speak for something that isn't great but isn't horrible. Middle of the road. But seeing how she only ate half of the dish, I have to think that it was pretty bad. The chef or manager came out and asked her specifically how the pasta was and she was non-committal but after some prodding she said it was good. Then proceeded to leave the rest untouched on her plate. Hmm. He didn't ask me how the pot roast was, but if he had, I was going to lay it out for him. He must have sensed a disturbance in the force because he didn't ask me. So, I feel bad leaving a less than stellar review for this place that we enjoyed several times when it was Mel's Diner .... but the quality of the food was really off and it is likely that we will not return. read more

Just tried this new restaurant tonight and couldn't be happier. All three in our party were over the moon with our dinners. Two of us had their special Bronzini fish with lobster and shrimp It was amazing and the sauce that came with it was the chefs kiss. The other one in our party had the Liver and said it was the best they had In a long time. The Cesar salad that came with dinner was creamy and delicious. Their portions are not skimpy in the least. All the servers were friendly. Chef came out to visit with the tables as well. Love the decor. The ceiling has really unique lights and tree branches all around. Very reasonable and wide variety. The portions were generous. I got the pot roast and would not recommend it. I offered a sample to 4 people at my table and they all said I should send it back. (I did not)). Very weird consistency and strange tasting gravy. They also had a very talented singer but he was WAY TOO LOUD for a dining room. We asked if he could turn down the volume and it actually sounded like he got louder. So if you don't like screaming at the people at your table, don't go on a Thursday night. Four of us went to Golden Grove Kitchen in Golden Gate this evening, January 1st, 2026. This was the first time we have been there since the restaurant, Mel's Diner, closed and was opened as Golden Grove Kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised, all of us. I had the pot roast, which was unbelievable, more tender and delicious than even my own. My husband ordered the lamb chops, which he said were incredibly tender and delicious. One son ordered the meat loaf, which he said was just about as good as I make, which must be terrific as he loves my meat loaf. The other son ordered the turkey dinner, also unbelievably tender and delicious. And to make things even more surprisingly good was the fact that we were given dinner rolls, two apiece, which were undeniably homemade. We will most definitely return. We always liked Mel's a lot, but it is now way better than Mel's! read more
