Sold me 5 infected angel fish and I lost at least a hundred dollars of fish and corporate did nothing for me.

We rushed in, just checking on plants, hoping to find an Angelfish for our 60 gallon tank. We stumbled through the store and happened upon this beauty. Mellow Yellow (her birth name) looked eyes with me and I had to bring her home. This poor little big fish needed to be with a variety of size fish and some larger ones. I'm so conflicted. My fur baby received such good care getting their baths I was super happy... then one of them came home with a huge bruise on his neck that wasn't there before. They both seem super happy and clean and he doesn't seem to be hurting when I told ch nor it's bleeding but we are certain it wasn't there before tonight. I called the next day and I was only told the guy who gave them their baths is not there so I need to call back. I would think such a serious claim would be handled with urgency and maybe a supervisor would at least take my info but nope. So nonchalant and they didn't take it seriously. I'm disappointed. No call back yet. I would assume I'll have to call them back but they'll probably just say they're not aware of anything happening. read more

All I can say is that every time we have gone into this particular store we have been met with professionalism, kindness, listening and expertise. Not once did we feel rushed or our questions brushed off for being silly. Experiencing such excellent customer service has been a breath of fresh air for our family with our first pet bearded dragon. We are especially grateful to Jess and Selena. They both need recognition and raises for their hard work and their phenomenal customer service. Horrible how they treat customers and pets. First time they nipped her tail and she bled and they tried to blame it on a bump that was not there and offered a 20% discount the next visit that we never got. Twice in two months they "forgot" to call when my dog was done being groomed and my senior dog was caged for hours, then forgot to give back my dogs collar and had to drive back to get it. Bonnie said she would call me? Instead sent me a text message a day later. "This is Bonnie the Grooming Salon Leader you spoke to yesterday. I meant to call you before I left. I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that I have seen a refund processed for Rayna's visit yesterday. Great pet store! They've got a great selection of products for a variety of pets. From birds to dogs even reptiles and small mammals they've got the pet for you. They are a little pricey compared to most other discount retailers but their products they have are much higher quality. This is my go to store for all my parrots needs. Granted there are a couple other stores in town with a much larger selection for birds compared to this Petco but I like this one for the convenience and they have the food and treats that I feed my bird. They treat their livestock much much better than petsmart and always have good staff that are experienced with these animals. DON'T GO TO RIGO** I brought my dog here and it took almost an hour and half longer then it was supposed to. While I was sitting in my car I saw the groomer Rigo walking from his car?? Then a half hour after I saw him my dog was finally done. My guy for sure was high, not sure about the rest of the staff. He misplaced my dogs collar and I came back to my dogs leash around his neck and he said I didn't give it to them. It was next to the desk on the ground. Then 3 days after grooming my dog was shaking constantly and his back legs kept giving out. He wouldn't let us examine him or touch his back. We thought it was from tick paralysis because we are visiting in MN and he went back to normal walking wise after some benadryl. Then 5 days after grooming is when we noticed sores and scabs on his back, stomach and back leg so we brought him to the vet. The vet stated this happens in dogs sometimes but it was the worse case he had ever seen. It was mostly from excessive grooming. Which if he was under the influence of drugs he was mostly like careless with my dog and other dogs that day. We eventually ended up taking off 20+ scabs after he healed. To think his legs kept going out from the pain in his back makes me SICK. Make staff changes Petco. I hope everyone sees this and doesn't schedule with Rigo. read more

Reason why I gave 4 stars is because every female employee working in the store that day was incredibly rude. The sales associates and cashiers we encountered were grumpy and unfriendly. I stopped in this morning to purchase a few treats for my pups. When I got to the checkout register, no one was there. I set my things on the counter and began to look for an employee. I heard someone stocking shelves nearby so stepped over and saw a young woman. She didn't have a name tag. I asked if she was the cashier or if she could call some one to the register. She never answered me. NOT ONE WORD! No hello, no " I'll help you" not even a smile. WOW! Totally rude and unprofessional. I'll never shop here again. The receipt has her name .. Colleen. This location is great because it isn't too crowded - at least it's not whenever I'm there and I go once or twice a week! The store is clean and organized. They have a good selection of products for all different kinds of pets. Petco also recently went "artificial-free" so you know you're getting quality food and treats for your babies. We take puppy training classes with Gaby and she is FANTASTIC, I cannot say enough good things about her or her training (my dog loves her)!!! The rest of the staff has always been pleasant too. Some reviews say "customer service is awful" or "no employees around when needed" and I personally have never found that to be true. read more

I took my dog for the Mini Make-Rover and they didn't do what they said. They did nothing that was on the list of the service. The only thing they did was cut my dog's nails and they didn't even grind them!!!! Horrible, I paid $25 for a $10 service and they did AWFUL. They didn't even put the balm on her!!!!! We have been doing puppy training with Gaby and it's wonderful. We have completed phase 1 and are moving on to phase 2. Our whole family has learned a lot and so has our dog! I understand the Covid-19 dilemma is causing everyone to go into panic mode. But boredom is also causing many people to take up new hobbies and activities. That being said, I stopped by Petco on a quiet Sunday (3/22/20) afternoon hoping to buy some marine life. This is my go-to store because they always seem to have what I look for! Kudos for that! I was greeted at the door by an employee who was fairly nice. She had gloves on, seemed like she was sanitizing all the tanks. Caution notes were taped on most of the tanks asking customers to "not touch the glass" due to the corona-virus. I asked if I may purchase some fish and corals. The same girl who greeted me at the door immediately calls for service in the aquatics department. As I was waiting, a heavy set caucasian girl turns the corner and asks "who's buying fish?" I waved and said I am. And in the most rude and obnoxious tone, she says "we are only selling essentials, we are not selling any fish because of the corona-virus. Then turns her back and walks away as she completes her sentence. Okay, that's understandable.... But it would be better if she had politely said, "unfortunately, we can not sell any live stock at the moment. Thank you for your understanding. Or at least post up some signs indicating that all livestock cannot be purchased due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I was pretty upset with her rudeness and so I walked around to the freezer area to grab "essential" frozen brine shrimp for my reef tank. As soon as I got there, I notice the same rude heavy set employee with the terrible attitude was also there helping a gentleman purchase some crickets. She was happily laughing and joking around with him... It's a little disappointing to see Petco hire this type of employee. It does give Petco a very degrading name. Not sure if I'll ever come back to this location. Maybe when the heavy set chick is no longer working there. I proceeded to check out and thank goodness it wasn't the rude girl. The person who cashed me out was Maria I think, based on the receipt. Petco needs to hire more people like Maria and not the other rude heavy set girl. read more

With 5 cats in the house I find coming to Petco to be more of a regular trip these days. I do enjoy the wide variety of food that is available including a large assortment of natural foods. I also appreciate how clean they keep the store. There is a certain odor to other pet stores that I don't experience here. My dogs have been to Petco for grooming several times. The first three times, we had a good experience; the last two, not so good. Specifically, the last time Petco fully groomed my three dogs, the workers felt my dogs, knew they had some mats, and said that they felt they could remove the mats without shaving my dogs. I got there and all three dogs were completely shaved. The youngest one had several nicks on her skin. We decided not to have them groomed there again. Although I didn't want to use Petco's washing/trimming service, Petco purportedly offers a walk in service for items such as trimming your pet's nails, or cleaning your pet's ears. On the advertisement for the walk in services, there are no disclaimers, no exclusions, just a simple notice that you can bring your pet in for this service anytime. One of these services includes a trim around the feet and the anus and an eye clean. The day before I wanted to bring my dogs in for this service, I went to this location to get more information. The woman there was very discouraging. She stated that Petco was very busy during the week and that it would be hard to do the walk in service for my dogs. When I asked if it was a true walk-in service, she said that it was, but that only one person was on duty during the week and if I brought my dogs in it would have to be after 3:00. So, the next day, I brought two of my dogs in after three o'clock. The worker there, came around the counter and felt my smallest dog. He had just been washed, but I had not trimmed him yet. He had maybe three mats on his stomach, none of his back or anywhere else. She looked at me and she couldn't do it because of the mats. That confused me. I asked why. She said that if she did it, the mats would cause him pain. That made no sense because there were no mats around the anus, the feet or the eyes. Moreover, I had also asked for a nail trim, which did not involve any fur. I asked for an explanation. She said sorry, if I wanted any service, I would have to do a complete grooming. I left. Petco misleads the public when it states that it offers a walk in service. It does not. It also provides poor grooming services and poor customer service. In other words, if you want service, don't go to Petco. read more

If you shop right, you can get the best deals. With petsmart right across the street basically from this location, it's all about doing your research for the best price on the same product. I love how they have the cat adoptions in store from the albuquerque animal shelter, I'm not even a cat fan but they are always my first stop when I enter the store. I have to look around at everything, they regularly have clearance items in their aisles, so look around. Asking to play with an animal whether it be a cat, reptile, or small furry, the staff is usually always pleasant to help. They have sample products a lot of times too, and coupons at kiosks. I like the bulk treat section that I can get a mix of dog cookies and buy according to the weight. Usually when I order crickets or feeder fish the staff will strike up a conversation on what I have at home, it's a friendly environment. They have the refrigerated section for the worms, which i like to be able to investigate all tubs to check for best looking batch. The freezer with krill, brine shrimp, frozen rats. It's a very clean store, and I like how employees have their pictures up by the doors with their pets, it feels more of a connection to the customer read more

The grooming at this Petco is excellent. We drive 2 hours to bring our dog to get groomed here and he receives excellent and caring service. Their freshwater fish dept currently has a bad anchor worm problem. 6/12/15. The manager pretended to not notice the anchor worms on the fish I was pointing out to her, but was well aware of the problem in a different tank that was on the same water system. I informed her that I had bought fish from her (6/8 or 6/9) and had now infected my whole tank, I spent 3 hours picking anchor worms off the fish I bought from here, hoping to stop the problem before it spreads. The problem is that I introduced water from their system into my tank with the new fish, so there may have been free swimming parasites introduced, I need to treat the water in my tank, the treatment costs $8 and I asked if they were going to pay for the treatment. The response was "we have no idea where your anchor worms came from" holy denial. This experiance has been terrible, but until I got sassed by the manager, the problem was somewhat understandable. But manager, please be a part of the solution to the problem, dont pass the buck to your customers when the problem is with your suppliers. Terrible experiance. Oh, they did have a nice employee who did notice the problem on the other fish, so hopefully they wont release all their new shippment currently sitting in bags at the tops of the infected tanks. read more

Had one of my dogs groomed today, he's a pretty small dog and we decided to get the works done on him which was supposed to include a bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, etc. Aside from a "bath" and nails I'm not sure what exactly they did. His ears are still filthy, his breath isn't even slightly better, and he smells like a wet dog. He was there for 2 hours and like I mentioned before he's a smaller dog so it's not like it's a tough job... yet nothing was done to him that I couldn't have done myself at home. My suggestion is that before you leave, check and make sure they actually did their job right. I assumed that since they claim to be professionals that they did. Till I got home, lifted my dog's ears, and saw that they were still covered in dirt and whatever else he might gotten into. I get it's Petco but shouldn't they have a little more pride in their work?
