My review is in regards to the new vital care program that's points based.... it absolutely SUCKS!!!! The worst thing they could have done!! They took away the nail clipping and teeth cleaning now you have to pay 15.00 for each service!! Once I reach my free grooming I'm not using them anymore to groom my dog! I don't get a manicure and then pay extra to clip my cuticles why would I pay for nail clipping when I pay to get my dog a bath and haircut of course I want his nails clipped:( it's such a scam I hate this company so money hungry they're not at all about the pets! read more

this is my go to place in buying fish. they have like 6 pages of diverse fish (african cichlids) which i have custom order from the breeder. i bought a tank from these guys which i'm using right now, but i get my supplies from petsmart, petco, amazon. i compare shop. unlike some of the other pet stores, petco gives you a 30 day replacement/store credit. i check in weekly to see what unique peacocks/haps they have coming in. only problem is since this place is very busy, the rare unique fish get bought up pretty quick. i highly recommend this place, only thing i would says is if they could give me a discount, it goes a long way. read more

if I could give 0 stars I would, took my dog on Thursday because the Petco on MacAurthur Rd where I usually go was booked. OMG they are rude and nasty. I had my grandbaby with me in a stroller and they ( 2 girls) watched me struggle to come in the door with the dog and stroller with no assistance. I got in and I was 15 minutes early for appointment, which has never been a problem at the other Petco and they rudely said " you are too early go walk around the store". They watched me leave struggling out the door. I picked up my dog who was groomed in record time, A Chinese Crested Powder Puff, and needless to say his face looked like it was never touched. To say these groomers are a disgrace is an understatement. I now know why they had SEVERAL appointments available. read more

I have three dogs, a bunny, and fish. I am here at Petco Lehigh street all the time. The staff is always so helpful, kind, and friendly. They are very knowledgable whenever I have a question. This is especially true regarding the staff in the fish department. I get my dogs groomed at this location and they always do a wonderful job. I use vital rewards/ premier and get all kinds of discounts from that as well. Very happy with this store and will continue to shop here. read more

Made appointment over 2 weeks ago for grooming. Got a call the day before that there was a scheduling problem. The reservation was made over 2 weeks ago and the day before they find out that they have a scheduling problem. Not to mention, they want 48 hours heads up if I wanted to reschedule. It's kinda crazy that a corporation this large cannot provide adequate care for animals who deserve even the minimal. PetCo, please review your guidelines and provide necessary steps towards proper care and education to all staff + potential buyers. For example, Chinchillas are set up for failure at the beginning of their journey to find a home with PetCo. I personally believe that they shouldn't even be allowed to carry Chinchillas considering the outdated misinformation on care. PetCo keeps its chinchillas in enclosures that do not even get proper ventilation. Chinchillas have the densest coats out of any animal on earth and require low temperatures so that they do not die of heat exhaustion. Chinchillas cannot congest paper bedding, yet, even with the correct bedding options(aspen or kiln-dried bedding) that the store already carries, they refuse to change out the bedding. Chinchillas also have a very limited diet of pellets comprised of alfalfa and 24/7 access to timothy hay and water. Anything made out of plastic is hazardous and can cause blockage and bloating. Those plastic wheels are better taken out than left in there. Any material that is not anti-pill/polar fleece is also hazardous. Your store has everything in stock that will benefit a chinchilla in the long run. Chinchillas can live for over 20 years. Please care about the animals you carry vs. just caring about the money that is coming into your pockets. Animals deserve a lifetime of happiness and care, just as much as a child or a human would. Don't get me started about the information on the rest of the animals you carry. read more

Take our dogs to get nails trimmed today and wanted haircut and bath for our other dog. Told they will not cut her hair. It's "damaging" ok been getting her haircuts for 5 years. First told all their services require appointments. Well been there numerous times as walk ins - never told that. Girl was not friendly AT ALL. Will take our business elsewhere where customer facing staff know what customer service is. I manage customer service staff of over 60 staff and if one of my staff was this rude to one of our patients they would be fired. read more

We took our Border Collie puppy here for a behavior issue we were having with him. Tina was fantastic she helped us train him and get him to behave like the beautiful boy he is today. Tina truly has a passion for dogs. Our boy loved her as well. Our family is truly blessed by Tina's direction and helping us change some of our behaviors to make a difference for our puppy. Can into store before 7:30. It took at least 15 minutes for someone to help us and then they said "what do you want because our aquarium dept closes at 7:30. They advised it is store policy not to sell fish after 7:30 because they need to clean up. She was super snarky and this is not acceptable. When a store is open until 8, I expect that I would be able to get what I need. Unfortunately, Petco has lost my business for poor customer service. Customer service was lacking a bit, and very slow. Also, had my dog scheduled to be groomed at 10:30 a.m. When I brought him in I was told he'd probably be ready by 3:30 p.m. That's insane! Usually it takes a few hours, and sometimes I even ask if I can leave him a little longer while I run errands, but 5 hours automatically??? The lady callously said she just got in and he was her 4th dog. Sounds like poor planning. Luckily, she provided the option of a Zoom Groom, where I could pay $10 extra and get him done within 2 hours. In the moment, I was pressed for time so was thankful for the option. When I came back to pick him up, the groomer was holding her own dog and chatting with two potential customers (they didn't have a dog with them). They were talking about how cute her dog was and how cute other dogs were - you know, general small talk. It was fine at first, but then after about 5 minutes of me just standing there, listening to the small talk, not being acknowledged at all, and my dog was in the background barking because he saw me and was excited and eager to leave, I started to get a little annoyed. After she finished talking to the two other people, she grabbed my slip, which was sitting on top, right in front of her, and handed it to me saying I could go pay at the cashier and come back. I went, paid, came back, and he was ready to go. Annoyances aside, the groom job was probably the best my dog has received in his 7 years! I was super pleased, and my dog seemed to be as well. Sequoia at Petco on Lehigh Street always does a fantastic grooming job for our Cocker Spaniel. She listens, makes suggestions based on what she hears, then does the grooming. The best part is that our nervous girl really likes her. read more

It's the only Petco in the area I believe that still has saltwater fish. The selection of freshwater fish can be hit or miss. I always look at the little critters, they're so cute, but never buy any :_( read more

been taking my dog there for groomings for years. the good responsible professional groomers keep leaving. i've been lucky to find replacements at petco so far. the last good groomer left this month and i tried a new one for my dog this week. she did a fine job but i had to deal with a different young lady when i went to pick my dog up as the new groomer had stepped out. this young lady, also a groomer, was so dismissive of my questions regarding my bill and unfriendly, discourteous, unprofessional, sloppy and ignorant in the way she acted that i said just please get my dog. she proceeded to bring him out and she hurt his trachea as she walked him out. he was making terrible sounds gagging and choking. abusive as i told her immediately to stop choking him with the thing she had around his neck and she disregarded my pleas. i had left instructions when i dropped him off that he cannot have anything pulling on his trachea!!! she said i'm not his groomer. with that bad attitude........ she shouldn't have even touched my dog! she had a bad attitude when i arrived and continued to have it all the way through. when you drop your dog off they have you sign a paper and it asks questions about current Health issues with your dog that they should know about. i clearly stated nothing tight or forceful around his trachea. I had to say to the manager who said this girl was following protocol as she was defending her abusive treatment of my dog.......... Why do you even ask the questions about health issues with my dog before every grooming if you intend to ignore those health issues???? this girl hurt my dog and knew it and she showed no remorse whatsoever. all groomers should handle dogs safely period. when you hear a dog gagging and choking a response is needed and you take notice and do the right thing for the animal. read more

Every time we go here there is only one cashier working and several other employees tending to the needs of the store (cleaning, stocking, etc). I appreciate the attentiveness to the store and stocked shelves but we always wait a minimum of five minutes to be checked out. The only reason we keep going back is because they are only a few blocks from our home. C'mon guys. When the line is six deep put another person on the register to help out. read more

Worst grooming experiences at their salon. Every time we brought our bichon in, the shaved him down so short to the point where they nicked him several times all over his body including his sanitary area. This led to him licking his his cuts and eventually having an infection which led to big bills at the vet office. Also, the pricing doesn't make sense. We paid upwards of about $70 for our groom and when asked about the additional fees that stated that it was for brushing his knots out and he was matted. How are you going to charge me for brushing my dog out when you just shaved him down? Outrageous. Grooming staff are not too nice either. read more

They should call this place Auschwitz for animals. The way they make their poor live animals suffer, is inexcusable. These poor animals are confined is such small cages they can only move a few steps here and there. When I spoke to the manager about the unbelievable over occupancy of the rat cage, he defensively informed me that Petco suggests 12 large white rats per cage....we counted close to 20! The Guinea pigs are stuffed 3 to a cage - the cage being about half the size of a normal fish tank. The Parakeet cage and amphibian cages are packed so full they barely have room to move without sitting on top of each other. Day in, day out these animals live in these distressing cramped conditions. PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE! Also, with regards to Petco in general, Investigators have found animals suffering severe abuse and neglect at the hands of a major PETCO animal supplier. Some rats evidently carried rat-bite fever--a potentially fatal disease transmissible to humans that has led to two lawsuits against Petco. Thousands of animals were being stored in plastic storage bins, stacked in shelving units and rarely checked on. The facility reeked of feces, The rabbits were packed into tiny wire cages filled with piles of feces. Many of them had urine-stained feet or signs of severe illness. They were denied veterinary care. Dead rabbits were regularly found in cages with the live ones -- up to four were found dead in one day. Investigators also witnessed literal piles of newborn mice thrown on top of each other in a box, Investigators witnessed workers grabbing chinchillas by their tails and throwing hamsters between boxes that were several feet apart. Hamsters and gerbils exhibited severe signs of stress. Many of the animals had no water or or only filthy water available, leading to dozens of deaths. read more

I have been coming here since I've been a kid. Great selection of everything pet related including live animals and fish. Was disappointed recently when we went to purchase a dog crate for our puppy and was told they wouldn't match their online price. This seemed to me as ridiculous since Petco is a large corporation. Staples, Best Buy as well as many others price match. I was just kinda puzzled by this. The price difference was 50%.. So we are talking like $75 not just a few dollars in savings. Anyways, as I understand this must be a corporate policy I gave the store 4 stars. This corporate policy deserves 1 star! read more

I've used the Lehigh St., Allentown PA petco to groom our dog for 2 years and have been satisfied, especially with the grooming staff. Today we are in the middle of a pandemic. When I called for an appointment I asked and was told that the staff is required to wear masks. I went for the grooming appointment today and discovered that, if the staff is required to wear masks, the requirement is not enforced. 3 persons in the grooming area had masks hanging below their chins and one person at the front checkout area. When I went to pick up my dog, the situation was the same. I made certain to pay for the grooming service at the desk of a staff person wearing a mask and commented on the lack of enforcement....pointing to the woman at the register behind me who had her mask down when I dropped my dog off AND when I picked him up. I said to the masked clerk, who was very pleasant and masked the whole time, why the rule wasn't enforced....and she said the unmasked clerk behind me WAS THE MANAGER! When I asked the unmasked manager about her lack of mask, she said "Oh, I'm sorry....I'm chewing gum". DON'T GO TO THIS PETCO if you care about your health or the health of others. read more

I needed a place that would trim my dog's and cat's nails so I stopped into this Petco. I normally take both of my animals to my vet, but Petco's price was much cheaper and their hours were more convenient so I decided to give them a try. The groomer explained what she was doing as she trimmed their nails. She handled both of them very well and did a good job - overall it was cheaper and a much more pleasant experience than in my vet's office because both the cat and dog responded well to the groomer. read more
