So happy to visit this amazing "boutique-like" community pet supply store, bakery, and on-site maker of treats and healthy snacks for pets. I have not been here for a few years...I really enjoyed this visit, I felt no pressure to purchase anything. I ended up finding a freeze-dried treat that was low fat and my dog is has been so happy. My only recommendation is that it would be nice to be able to see prices on very special items like puzzles, etc. of course, I could have missed seeing any pricing. Extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, pleasant & very helpful people provided top notch customer service. They asked questions in order to help make the best recommendations at various price points for snacks, toys, etc. to meet the specific needs of our pup who loves to chew. Where do I even begin? If I could give the people at The Dining Dog 100000 stars, I would. My near 12 year old dog has done a complete 180 and is like a puppy again. Never have I seen people love every single animal so much just as if they were their own....and treat us as if we are their only customers. This treatment is given to all customers and fur babies. I didn't know people this incredible actually existed. Our story: We brought Misha here after a trip to his regular vet as well as to an oncologist for a second opinion. We initially received devastating news that he had metastatic lymphoma and then were told that he most likely had something else- another form of cancer or a lipoma. Being an older guy and considering his quality of life, we opted out of an extremely invasive surgery and for more palliative care. I was interested in more holistic care rather than prescription drugs, so naturally I started researching what I could do. From the second we called The Dining Dog- which initially started to just get him on a better food, we were welcomed as family with open arms. Little did we know that this experience would change Misha's (and our) lives. Althea and Sarah asked us for more information regarding Misha and we filled them in... We were asked for pictures of him for an initial review and then asked to bring him for a consultation. Althea and Sarah watched him closely and carefully....assessing him down to his coat condition, gums, ears and stiffness while walking just to name a few. They were so in tune with my dog...They knew what he needed right away. After careful observation, they created a unique plan just for him and adjust his care and protocol based on his progress pictures and in-person assessment. All of our questions are answered and we have learned so much in terms of caring for and advocating for our baby. After just 3 weeks, Misha is completely different. Every time we come for a check-in, he is continually showered with love. So. Much. Love. from each and every person there. I feel it in my heart and I cannot express the gratitude I have for the support, care and knowledge we have received. We are family. If you are contemplating taking your animal here for anything from a toy to a birthday cake to a full on consultation to develop an individualized plan for your baby... just stop scrolling and go. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!! I'm from Bend, Oregon, which has the highest dog per capita in the nation. When I found myself without dog food while traveling east to visit my husband's family for the holidays I was worried we wouldn't find the kind of commitment to all-natural single-source dog food we have at home. This dog store not only had an incredible selection of amazing brands, I learned about brands I didn't know about, I got personalized help from the owner who is extremely knowledgeable and passionate, all the staff are amazing and friendly, and the store carries some of the top brands I usually have to buy online for clothes and toys (bc they're the best, and lesser known, so you have to really do your research). This place treats every dog that walks on like the teachers pet! I bring my Boston Terrier here every Saturday for a visit and a fresh treat (either a smoked trachea or pig nose) and some hooman interactions. The place is always sparkling clean and the bakery makes me hungry for dog food (yes I just said that lol). The staff know their dtuff when it comes to the products they sell and the food/treats they make from scratch. My dog doesn't have any medical needs or food allergies so I dont take full advantage of what the shop has to offer but I know the treats I purchase for him are top quality and healthy. For example, the trachea sold at big box stores are packaged in plastic because they are super greasy and full of fat. Whatever is in those things gives my dog the squirts for days. The smoked tracheas at DD are lean and all natural. No additional ingredients and long lasting. I hope this place stays around for a lifetime! The staff will go out of their way along w the owner to find answers to questions and the appropriate product for a customers dogs and cats. Price wise, the premade bags of food they sell is more expensive but this is ti be expected because these products are for animals w specific dietary needs. The bakery and kitchen are affordable. The baked treats sell by the item (the bigger trrats such as a pumpkin roll) or by the ounce (typically $1.25-2.50/oz). The smoked trachea is comparable in price to the big box oet store starting w the letter 'P'. So yes this place is not only affordable for the rich & famous. Average Joes will be satisfied with the selection and prices. Better quality items are always going to be more than the mass produced/lower quality items. Its worth the purchase! read more

this place is OK. sometimes I love it when I go in, sometimes I loathe it. MOST of the time there are no prices on things and you have to go up to the desk to ask and there is usually a line that moves pretty slow to check out, so you are just standing there waiting for them to scan something (usually overpriced) . Chewy is much more true to real pricing. Also, sometimes you go in and they are like "in love" with you and act like you are important, and other times you are invisible to them. Very strange. The store LOOKS fabulous, but the immediate feel when you walk in the door is negative. It just lacks soul. read more

I always liked this place because they are so great with the dogs. The food is great and they are generous with the samples. Today we asked to use the restroom for my 7 year old daughter, that's when you realize the people skills are lacking. We were not in the bathroom five minutes and the manager? Owner? Not sure was knocking on the door asking if everything was all right. The first time I didn't think she was speaking to us, then she started knocking and asking if everything is ok. I open the door while my daughter is washing her hands and say "She is 7, sometimes it takes her a few minutes." At this point I'm embarrassed and so is my daughter. We come out and she asks my daughter if she feels better. My kid was so embarrassed she walked as fast as she could and didn't make eye contact. We drive 45 minutes to buy our dog food here, I'm sorry the kid had to use the facilities. read more

This is one of the few businesses that has ever convince me that their service is more important than my business. They truly care about your pet. I have a little dog that has been having a lot of issues with digestion and allergies. They literally spent two hours with me, giving me samples, giving my dog food, examining him, playing with him and talking to him. And the store was packed with people. When I came back to the store, they remembered me and they remembered my dog. My dog eats nothing exceptTable food happily. I have never seen him eat more and his little two years of life, then the food that we purchased all natural and organic from the dining dog. It's been a couple of years since this happened, but it was one of the most absurd, rude, and arrogant things that I've ever experienced as a paying customer anywhere. I came in to buy some food for my new dog. The owner of the store offered to help me, and she asked for the first three ingredients of our existing dog food. I told her. She said chicken meal was not good and suggested a food with whole chicken as the first ingredient. I asked her to explain the difference, because I was under the impression that the main difference was water content. Her response was so rude and over the top that it irks me to this day. She said "Come here, I want to show you something" and led me into her back office. I was expecting to find a chart or perhaps a diagram that she was going to use to clarify the difference for me. I was wrong. She grabbed an issue of some nutritional journal and asked me "Have you read THIS?" Of course I said no. Then she held up another issue. Same question; same answer. And ANOTHER. And ANOTHER. With the same snarky question each time. "Have you read THIS ONE?"... I stared blankly at her, waiting for her point. Was there ever further explanation? No. She apparently just wanted to walk me into her office to show off her library and demonstrate how educated she thinks she is. I finally asked her what her point was. She literally said "I've read all these." Now, I'm sure she just assumed that I was some dumb girl who couldn't possibly know anything about anything. However, I'm a college professor with multiple degrees in Biology, Behavioral Ecology, and Environmental Management. I assure you, I can handle the contents of a journal article on water content in chicken meal vs whole chicken. Heck, I've even written a few articles myself. I have never in my life had someone speak down to me to such a degree. She never answered my question. But I found out from the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) that the difference is moisture content. I tell everyone I know to avoid this store with the bratty owner. I'd rather spend my money at Cold Nose Lodge. read more

I can not rave about this store and the owners more. I travel an hour here and refuse to go anywhere else. I have two welsh corgis and have been struggling in medical bills for years with my one. No vet I have been to has been able help him with his IBS issues. After hearing about this place from a friend of mine, I bit the bullet, took my dog in the car and drove the hour there to meet with Althea (one of the owners). She sat with me for THREE hours out of the goodness of her heart, reviewing his records, listening to his symptoms and helped me put him on a digestion detox to help reboot his system. Within one day I swear he was a new dog. He was my playful puppy again and I couldn't believe it. After having severe IBS attacks weekly (sometimes daily!) he hasn't had one with her help. I can't thank her enough. Every time I come here the staff is so welcoming and friendly. Their store smells like a bakery and any time I go there I feel it is well worth the 1 hour drive.
