This was my first time taking my dog to a vetco and I was skeptical because of the reviews as my dog has anxiety and struggles at vet appointments. However, since my pup was up for the core vaccines and we just moved states, I took the chance at our local vetco. The staff was wonderful and made my baby feel safe. They were super quick, professional and even offered a list of emergency hospitals as well as letting me know of the trusted vets in the area. Super grateful! read more

Avoid Vetco clinic. Not worth the hassle! Took my dog to see the Vetco clinic. They insisted on emailing the prescription, and would not provide a hard copy. The file they sent I was unable to print. After multiple tries I had to screenshot the prescription, and print the picture! We take the printed (screenshot) prescription to our pharmacy because it is HALF the price of Petco. They are unable to honor it because it is not a signed copy! Spent 30 minutes with their call center which is out of the country. Got a response 2 days later that Vetco is unable to assist with getting us a hard copy or having the doctor send it in directly. We need to contact our Veterinarian directly! There is no contact information for the veterinarian except the call center! Was told by the Petco staff we can come in when the veterinarian is back at that location in a few weeks!!!! I will be disputing the charge with our credit card. This is delaying treatment for our dog. read more

We took our dog Tyson to get his nails trimmed and a bath like we have in the past. After 15 minutes my husband was called to pick him up because they said he tried to bite the groomer. Tyson came back home very lethargic. My husband took him back around three and watched as they cut his nails, but that was all they are willing to do. After my husband brought him back he started bleeding from the nose. We know he has allergies so we thought maybe that was the case but after 12 hours of bleeding, we took him to the emergency room. After $2500 of bloodwork and two nasal scopes they told us he had sustained trauma to his head. I believe when he was picked up to put on the table, she dropped him and that's when they asked us to come and get him. The emergency room gave a sedatives so he could rest and allow his brain to heal. This is such a heartbreaking experience that they will never be accountable for. read more

While getting microchipped one of my dogs growled and eventually attacked my other dog after it yelped. This was totally unexpected to me - otherwise I would have brought the dogs in one at a time. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of asking one of the micro-chippers - wow, I wonder what brought that on - thinking I might get some sort of reasonable answer. Instead it was - your dog has not been fixed and as I walked away "you should get him trained" What she didn't know is that the vet told us not to get him fixed yet and we've spent over $1400 with a behaviorist with Anni and his aggression problems with his brother - which, until yesterday, seemed pretty much under control. The behaviorist told us that "fixing" a dog sometimes helps but often doesn't. The last thing I needed after that situation were snide comments from someone who obviously doesn't know better. I have been getting my dog groomed at this location for two years now, but will not go back after today's experience. Let's start by saying that a $50 bath and nail grinding for a medium size dog has gone up from $50 to $70 in just a few months. This includes the upcharge for my dog's "long hair," which is medium length at the most. For the first time I had a new appointment booked for me without consulting with me about date or time. It was just randomly assigned. I canceled the first rebook appointment, but when I got the second one, I called to tell them I don't want to prebook. Instead of getting the response I expected, which was "we're sorry--I'll make a note of it," I got a barrage of excuses: it's my job, we've always done it this way (not true), and if you don't want the appointment you can just cancel (how many times do I have to do this). Yes, I'm sorry, I got cross. That tends to happen when a salesperson is talking over me and giving me excuses instead of listening to my concerns and addressing them. Then I got the response every manager hates: "If you don't like the way we do things, you don't have to come back." Ouch! Needless to say, between the exorbitant cost, the random prebooking, and the attitude, I will be taking her advice. read more

It was the first time ever that I trusted anyone else to groom my cat, she's been traumatized and I never thought she would be comfortable around people, but the employees here were absolutely amazing. Great location with plenty of parking and a friendly staff. It's a large store with a huge assortment of everything for your pet. Mrs. E. bought several of these Betta fish for holiday gifts she is making. Wouldn't ya know one of the little guys goes belly-up the night we're assembling everything. Problem is she bought them in Reno. They told us we have a 30 day warranty in the event...well, you know. But we're still looking at another drive there from south Carson. Long story short, we called Becca at the Carson City location and she had no issues with replacing the fish. Just bring in the receipt. Nice since the store is a mile from our castle. This isn't the first time these folks have bailed us out. We always receive sage advice, too. Brought our Miniature Schnauzer and Westie in for a haircut and nail trim. We returned with one dog not completely groomed. They said that she was too difficult to groom. Well trained groomers have had no problems with our animals' behaviors before. We also discovered that the dew claws were not even trimmed. Do yourself a favor and find a trained groomer and spend the extra money to have things done right. read more

Rudest experience I have ever had in a store. So much so that I'm doing my first ever yelp review, and it's my first and last time ever going to a petco. I was trying to get my dog a rattlesnake vax, made an appointment and was about 5 minutes late. No one was there and we waited an additional 5 minutes only for an exceptionally bitter and awful woman to come thundering up to us and screech "what do you think you're doing!?" I wanted to go off on her but I was an adult held my tongue and calmly told her I was there for a vax. She retorted "well you're 15 minutes late, clinics closed". I just took my dog and left instead of catching a felony. That's the kind of people they hire and that's the kind of customer service you can expect. Don't give these clowns your money. They do not care about your pets. PetSmart arent perfect but they are much kinder, clearly show care, and have been that way for my dogs entire 5 year life so far. read more

Took my 11lb Maltese here. The 2 girls were extremely rude to begin with. There was a note that he sometimes bites and they should use a muzzle while bathing him. They called an hour later and said he was aggressive and they just bathed him. Went to pick him up. They refused to bring him out until after I paid them $35 for a bath. After bringing him out, they did not bathe him at all and it took me arguing with a different rude manager to get the truth about them just rinsing him off and charging for a full service. I was in with my daughter today, we were adopted by a Dusky Conure who was called "Spike". Lisa took a lot of time to help introduce us, she was kind and patient and clearly the birds love her. The employees are amazing- they work hard to socialize the birds in their care, so much so that the birds hardly take any time to adjust to their owners. They're not afraid of human hands. It's difficult to keep parrotlets from stress, and their feathers are usually the first visible casualty on a stressed bird, but this lovey is healthy and beautiful. Cole also spent time with us when we were paying, he had a conure up at the register with him (that my sun conure who comes with me had a great conversation with). This is a beautiful example of how much and how well they socialize the birds. Everyone is always friendly and helpful, and they deserve to be celebrated for that, but the way they care for the birds is above and beyond anything I could have asked for. They're doing so much more than the basics, purely out of love for the animals. Thank you from all of us. "Spike" is Nephrite now, and we love him. We will see you soon! read more

If I could give zero star I would. Got whole fish tank system including fishes for my little kids. Found out tank is leaking 3 days past 30 day return. The treatment I got from Petco when taking to them was "don't talk to us and don't shop here if you don't like us"... manager was reaping that they had to step up 30 days because of something. They don't care you want to spend more money, they tell you straight in face to take it somewhere else. That's what happens when upper managment is not involved and has kids running stuff. Although I absolutely LOVE the other staff BLAIN the GENERAL MANAGER should immediately be demoted. When a customer is asking why they are being told they WILL NOT be helped because the store is "closing" when it's been clearly posted they are open for another hour and half you probably shouldn't walk away from the paying customer. I had purchased a defective product (dog was able to chew apart a "durable" toy and ingested pieces of it within minutes) and when I came to exchange it the next day, the associates refused to accept the exchange for a different product as I had tossed the receipt. The associates would not look up the transaction or let me use the same card I had to find the transaction, citing an increase in fraud. Exchanging defective products is not fraud. Truly disappointed, and would recommend that you visit the local pet store or shop online before ever shopping here. read more

The store supervisor Blaine is extremely rude and a liar. He came to help me at the fish tank and was rude from the very beginning, then accused me of saying something I didn't say and refused to sell me fish. He continue to treat me like dirt and told me to leave "his store" and said "Bye, see ya tuh da duh!!!" No respect! I felt I was talking to a teenager. I WILL NEVER go back to that store. I cannot believe that this person, who proudly calls him self t"he supervisor" will treat someone like that! He should be ashamed of him self! Unbelievable that corporate will keep a low level supervisor like Blaine! They lost my business for sure. There other other reviews about this person warning of his extreme poor customer services and rudeness. I should hope corporate starts looking into it. The other employees are great! Gayle and I had packed for our long weekend in Genoa, double checked this and than, and headed off from our East Bay HQ for the ~4 hour ride up to and over the Kingsbury grade. It wasn't until we arrived that Gayle realized that we had forgotten to take the dog food provisions. So it was off to Petco. This is a nice Petco and what you would expect from this chain. They were also hosting a pet adoption/rescue campaign when we walked in. The big difference was that Gayle was thinking of picking up another animal and I thought dropping one of our particularly loud pups was a better idea. Note: My fiancé is writing this review from his perspective. I'm prefacing this review with the fact that, while I am calling attention to an employee, this review should not reflect that employee's abilities nor negatively impact their employment. It was clear that this encounter is reflective of management. With that said: There appeared to be only two associates on the floor when we visited, neither of which in petco gear--it was clear from conversation these individuals were new hires. We were purchasing Rainbow Shrimp (we asked for four, along with four from another tank) and the associate who came to help looked clearly panicked when we asked. There were two rainbow shrimp in particular we wanted who were healthy and vibrant--clearly doing well (we watched them for quite some time) She proceeded to quickly rip the decorations about the tank as she attempted to catch the shrimp, disrupting the entirety of the decorations and gravel. It took close to 40 minutes for her to catch the shrimp, the entire time we were wishing we could catch them for her instead. As she began bagging them, she told us that one of the shrimp was actually dead, and had to go ask if it's okay for her to stay to catch another one as she was well into overtime. she left before we could tell her we didn't want another shrimp. As she was gone, we inspected the shrimp who was still twitching--it was one of the two we had watched closely who, before this encounter, as previously said, was vibrant and healthy. she came back, and we explained we didn't want another, so she accompanied us to the front--the associate at the front (the only other one I had seen) was also not in petco gear and sounded like a new hire. The cashier congratulated the first associate on "a job well done! i haven't done that, you did so well!" and the first associate said "yeah! I was shown for five minutes by X and was able to do it!" In transit home, the second shrimp we had been watching who was happy and healthy passed. Hearkening back to my preface: i'm not upset with the associate. she did the best she could with the tools provided. my frustration, coming from years of experience in vet care and year of animal care management, is that she was not trained to properly handle livestock. she was overworked on potentially her first day, and tasked to perform an action that she was only trained (it sounded like) five minutes to conduct, resulting in the death of perfectly healthy livestock. If the aquatics employee is unable to come in to properly handle the animals, then livestock should not be sold. The stress alone from that encounter was literally enough to kill them. Focus on your training, animal livestock is far different from general merchandise. i understand people may not apply meaning to shrimp lives, but these animals are undergoing enough stress living in a pet store, and they're being sold for close to $10 dollars each. i am reiterating, this employee should not be punished if management wishes to make progress into developing their associates into a proper store, but instead management needs to take a long hard look at their staffing and training protocols, and if they are not equipped to handle lives, they should not sell lives. read more

This review is for the folks who work at this store. Yes, I sometimes get frustrated when I can't find what I need or the place is packed but the employees will bend over backwards to help you out. I spend most of my time in the fish department and have wacky well water. Cody in the fish department has been fabulous with his insights and suggestions. During this Covid stuff the Petco Corporation decided to stop allowing returns for more than a month which was super frustrating. And I felt so bad for the cashiers who I witnessed on several occasions being berated by customers over it. But I was also so impressed by the manager who, every time, came over to support the cashier and gently explain the situation to the customer. I may not be a super fan of Petco in general but the folks at this location in my opinion are terrific and the only reason I continue to shop there read more

This place is like Disneyland for my dogs. They love the people that work there, the toys, the treats are all so exciting for my three pooches. If only I could train my little pug not to attempt shoplifting - HAHAHAHA. They also have Puppy training, grooming and specialties like holiday collars and life jackets for dogs. I have always purchased crickets for my lizard at other pets stores but due to location convenience I picked up some from this store. A few days later our bearded dragon became extremely ill. We took her to the vet and was informed that she was ill due to the crickets. I called the corporate number to inform them of this issue and was told that I would get a call back within 24-48 hours. Not only did the crickets cause the death of my bearded dragon but they never did a follow up as they said they would. I will never return to that store and I do not recommend anyone buying anything from them. Brought my dog in yesterday to have his nails trimmed. As I was checking in the girls were turning away an older lady from having her small (about 10 lbs) dog groomed. They told her the dog needed to be socialized more. This dog was very sweet and friendly with my small dog. They opted to cut rather than grind my dogs nails. The other wonderful Petco in PA we were used to always did a nice job using a grinder. I said whatever was best for my dog works for me. We got home and they didn't trim the nail that's been bothering him, the main reason we went there. They also asked if he's had issues having his nails trimmed in the past. I replied he doesn't let me do it, that's why we're coming here and paying you for the job. He's about 15 lbs and couldn't be sweeter. To top it off the girl tried to overcharge me. She handed me a bill for a teeth brushing as well. When I asked if they brushed his teeth she said no, she just reprinted the bill from our last visit. Sad they don't have professional groomers here and we won't be back. This place does not seem to be run to the standards of Petco and my dog seems pretty upset since his brief visit here. read more

I just used Petco's grooming for my Springer Spaniel Riley and Ashley (the groomer) did a wonderful job! This is probably the best grooming job he has ever had. Ashley was very friendly and so understanding even after she heard that my pup can sometimes be a handful to groom. I am so relieved to find a good groomer because the last groomer I used in Tahoe ended up nicking him with the shears and cutting his tummy. It was even more sad because she wasn't apologetic and said it was my dog's fault for being a handful. Additionally, Riley was also lucky enough to have all of Ashley's attention due to the stormy weather, so there wasn't any other pups getting groomed that evening. When I came in to pick him up she was playing with him on the floor and he seemed so happy. I highly recommend using Petco's grooming service and asking for Ashley! read more

Took my cat into get his shots. On the shot days it gets very crowded very early so get there early. The techs were very nice and quick. My cat wasn't very happy and tried to attack them, I was a bit embarrassed cause he is such an easy going cat. Think he was just a bit spooked. They calmed him down and got all of his shots and tests done. I even bought some treats and a new cat carrier.
