I took my dog here to get her nails clipped about a month ago and the door was locked (I was the first appointment of the day) and after trying to call and knock, I finally got someone's attention to open the door. Once I got in I was told I was too late for my appointment even though I had been waiting for 20 min outside and had gotten there earlier than my scheduled time slot. The lady was not only rude but unprofessional by huffing and puffing and shaking her head. Thankfully her coworker was nice enough to take my dog back to get her nails trim since it would not take long to do. Fast forward to today, my boyfriend tried to take our dog here to get a bath and THE SAME LADY (I tried to schedule someone different but she was on maternity leave) was not only rude with checking him in but told him that our dog had never been to their location. Which is false since I not only made the account in person but also have an account on the app. I tried to give this place a second chance but after the same result as last time, we will not be coming back. About two weeks ago, I have made an online grooming appointment for my dog for 10/2 and when I went in that day, they said they couldn't see it on the system. I even showed them my confirmation text message (see picture) that has the exact time and date on it, their reply was we are too busy today and told me to go home. The lady said you can come back tomorrow. Well, I don't have a choice at that time so I went home with my dog, what a waste of my time. By the way, every staff at this petco store (coralville, IA) were mean, you can tell that none of them really love dogs and they all seems like they hated their job. Anyway, I showed up the next day and gave my dog to them for the grooming service. When everything is done, when I ready to pay at the check out, the person even asked me for tips. Wow, that's professional!!! I asked the groomer is everything ok? She said yea, everything is good. When I took my dog home, I noticed there's a huge deep cut right at her stomach and she is bleeding badly. I was so piss and I couldn't believe they didn't say anything about it. When I called the store, no one answer the phone and I don't even have the option to leave a message. So, I called their hotline and they said their manager will give me a call back tomorrow morning because there is nothing that they can do now!! As far as PetCo goes, this is by far the cleanest one I've ever been in. I stop here about once every two or three months for cat litter and cheap dog toys... Cat stuff: there's a litter bucket refill station in the back of the store - this is my favorite. I felt so wasteful with those plastic buckets I used to buy. With this refill station, you buy a bucket your first time, and then bring it in to refill at a discounted price in the future. I've been doing this for over a year now and wish more brands and pet shops would offer something along this line. There are also a lot of really cheap (read: quick-to-fall-apart) cat toys and cheaply built cat towers/tree houses. I sure wish the toys weren't all laced with cat nip though, because it seems to turn my cat into an attack panther. It's quite terrifying. Dog stuff: my dog is the guy who removes squeakers with surgeon-like precision, so there's no need for fancy toys with him. PetCo has a good selection of squeaker toys under $5 which fit the ticket perfectly. This location also has a surprisingly large selection of cheap sweaters and sport jerseys (most recently, they had Hawkeye and Bears Jerseys), along with a really cute plushie toy farm stand display. This is a handy stop for low-priced pet supplies but I tend to look elsewhere if I want a nicer-quality leather collar, rain jacket (because let's be honest, a 65 pound wet chow is no fun), or other big-ticket items that I want to last. read more

Nikki G. is the best! Tucker is our sweet 150lb boy. He's a handful but Nikki loves him and shows it at every visit. She really cares about her large dogs and does whatever she can to make them feel comfortable and enjoy their spa day. She keeps us informed of any issues that come up during his visit (the occasional accident or if he's been difficult). She listens to us regarding his sensitive skin issues and uses shampoo and conditioner to help soothe his skin. Tucker is always happy to see Nikki and is always fluffy and fresh when he leaves. read more

Everything was smooth. - Then I decided to buy a lava rock but purchase a Java Fern. BIG MISTAKE. - Another assistant came to me but Monica decided to step up. Probably sent by her manager. - She claimed that I disn't put my debit card in order to refund the lid. - she requested my driving and SCAN IT! I requested the motivation and here was her explanation, she was embarrassed and said we do this randomly... I've taken my dog Maggie to Petco for several years. Eddie does a great job and is so sweet to Maggie. Always does what's requested and with a smile. I have taken my dog to the Coralville Petco for grooming (a basic bath) multiple times over the last 3 years and while I have not always had great experiences this has to be the worst yet. I took my dog in to have a basic bath done and his nails trimmed. Upon drop off I was told it would be about an hour before he would be ready, I asked them to give me a call if that changed but I would return between an hour to two hours from that time. I know it is close to the holidays and they are busy so I have them extra time and came back two hours later to pay before picking my dog up. Once I arrived I asked for the paperwork in order to pay and one of the groomers was kind enough to take a moment to print it off and I went and paid. After finishing my payment I went back to the grooming center and requested my dog be brought out. I was then informed that it didn't appear my dog was finished with his services but they were trying to contact his groomer because she had gone on break and was not in the building right then. I was confused at this point as it has been over two and a half hours. I asked if any of the services I brought him in for had been completed and was informed that he had been given a bath and blow dried but that she had put him back into one of the kennels to go on her break before finishing the full service. I was dumbfounded at this point that a groomer would start a service and stop halfway through to take her break rather than finishing the service and then attending her break. I found it very unprofessional to partially complete a task and walk away from said task without informing any coworkers where they had left off in the event that the owner came in to check on the status of their pet. The kind groomer who I had my first interactions with during this ordeal went to the back in order to speak to the grooming supervisor, who I then saw bring my dog into the grooming area to finish his service. Upon seeing me my dog started to become excited and anxious to leave the groomers as this is not his favorite place to be and was not as calm as the groomer expected him to be. At this point I noticed the grooming supervisor pick my dog up off the table and remove the loop leash from him while walking out toward me. As soon as she exited the door separating the desk space from the grooming salon she began to berate me for standing in my dogs line of sight while she was attempting to finish his services. I attempted to ask why my dogs services had been started but not completed before his original groomer took her break and she refused to provide me with an answer. She did inform me multiple times that she was not my dogs groomer and that she had merely offered to complete his services as his groomer was currently unreachable. She made it very clear that she did not have an issue with her employee beginning a service and stepping away for an undefined amount of time before completing said service. During our discussion my dog had been attempting to escape her ever tightening grip. She informed me that if I would like my services to be completed I would need to leave the store and come back only when called for. I was prepared to walk away and allow her to finish the services that I had already paid for, but she began to repeat that we were causing a disturbance by merely being in the area and became so fed up that she shoved my dog across the gate with no regard for his physical safety or even taking a moment to allow me to place his harness on him for his safety and security. I requested that if my services were not going to be completed that I would like a refund as I did not want to pay for something that was only partially complete. She informed me that I could receive a refund and processed it right then. After completing the refund she informed me that I was hereby banned from the store without proper reason behind her statement. Overall this experience has caused me a great deal of confusion as to why the Grooming Salon Leader acted in such a rude manor. I will never return to Petco for any services or products as I do not believe they have animals best interests in mind. Her utter disregard for my dogs safety was a disgusting display that she and her employer should be ashamed of. I can tolerate someone being rude towards me but jeopardizing my pets safety when you are in a position claiming to care for animals safety and well-being is an absolutely sickening. I would not recommend Petco to anyone who loves and cares for their animals. read more

They have the largest selection and I use somewhat non-mainstream cat litter (http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com), so sometimes I find myself here out of necessity. I have never had my cat groomed here because this Petco doesn't give haircuts to cats, but I hear that they do shampoos and brush-outs for cats. Either way, I have had one notably good experience here that I'd like to share. I accidentally purchased the wrong cat food one day. A week later, I realized my mistake and I called Petco. They were so nice over the phone, and they even put a bag of the cat food that I intended to purchase on hold for me. I always bring my dogs to the Coralville Petco. The groomer there are always friendly and nice to my dogs. They do an amazing job. Hedi is the one that usually does my dogs. They have anxiety and she knows just how to handle them and makes the experience for them great. 10/10 read more

I have been to several other groomers in town and I am so pleased with Petco Coralville. My cocker spaniel looks better than he ever has before! The girls were very keen to help me decide a cut and were very attentive to what I like about my dog's hair (he's got an adorable, fluffy dog-fro on top of his head that I like to keep)! He looks great, smells great and seemingly had a good time because he has been super happy all day long! The only problem I have with Petco is that they are often booked out farther than I am able to make appointments (2 months), which isn't anyone's fault, just disappointing when it happens. DISAPPOINTING! I brought my miniature schnauzer for a bath last weekend. When we got her, her 4 paws were still wet, as I knew, my doggie was the last 'customer' of the day, the groomer couldn't wait to get off work! Normally after my schnauzer showers, she will look "bright" (her 'moustache' is silky white - silver, her 4 legs are puffy-ly snowy white), when we got her, her moustache were almost dark brown, the legs were not properly brushed! My schnauzer wasn't happy either, she cried the moment she saw us and couldn't wait to stomp out the store. I have been taking my little Halle (a shorkie) to Eddie for almost a year now. Eddie is polite, professional and really listens and remembers what you tell him. He does an awesome job on my little girl, and Halle adores him. Just this week when I was checking out at the register, Eddie brought Halle from the back. She was so excited to see him, hopping up and down. She does not do this with just anyone, so I felt assured that Eddie must also be very kind with the dogs. Eddie always does such a great job grooming my dog. She's been to our local Petco many times and Eddie has been her favorite.

The first time I used their grooming services I was sorely disappointed. But after a long talk with their manager and going in and making very specific notes as to what is supposed to be done, they are doing better. Their staff is a little immature. They tend to all go to break at the same time (even when people are waiting for their dogs to be finished and the times to pick up their pets are long past due). I also don't like that when you go to pick up your dog, you go into the grooming area where they print off a report. Then you have to go into the main store area and wait in their long lines when they usually only have one cashier working. Then you have to go back into the grooming area and wait for them to bring our your dog. They aren't at up to take payments in there when that would clearly be more efficient. read more

There are only two women who work here that make this place a pleasant experience to shop. One is very friendly and has had several rats and is super willing to help if you have questions about rats. The other is K' Iyn. I know her name because she helped me adopt my rat and her name is on the paperwork. She is definitely an asset to the store. The rest of the staff are mediocre at best and downright rude at worst. One in particular, a petite unattractive brunette who runs the obedience training and always wears jeans is a B*t% plain and simple. I went in there once with my dogs and my little guy was barking. K'lyn came over to discuss my interest in the rat they had for adoption and kindly mentioned the obedience training. I knew Max needed it and my new dog would probably do well with some training as well so I told her to get me the info. The woman who ran the training was right there and never once came over to discuss the possible training classes with me. She just looked over, probably thought I could not really afford the classes and chose to ignore me. In fact, she was even rude to K'lyn. I took the paperwork, but threw them in the trash as soon as I walked out. Even though there was another trainer I did not have confidence in any program that had her as an employee. On the same visit I bought over 40 cans of cat food for my cats and the man at the register assured me that 15 could go in a bag without the bag ripping. I had my doubts, but they would not give me a box to put them in. Got home, picked up two of the bags and started walking into the house when one of the bag ripped and all the cat food went rolling down the hill. Now, I just get my pet food at Paul's and make some of it at home, Petco problem solved. **I adopted the rat and she is doing well! read more

Stopped in here on a road trip with my 14 week old puppy. We were both immediately greeted by 2 different employees who fawned over him and asked if we needed help. Every employee I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. I DID see/hear the employee other reviewers have referred to and agree with their assessment of her. Today I went to Petco in Coralville Iowa to purchase cat food. I have repeatedly requested cases of Royal Canin Adult Instinctive to be ordered. I will be told it will be order and available in 3-4 days. When I return there continues to be a very few cans on the shelf, and no ordered cases. Once again, I'll be promised it will be ordered and available in 3-4 days. This has been going on since February when I began introducing my 3 Persian kittens to adult food. I returned today, there were 12 cans on the shelf. I asked if the cases were order and told no. I asked to speak with the manager who identified herself as "Leslie" and refused to provide a last name. She was very rude. She display no concern for the repeated failed promises to make this product available as request/promised, excessive number of trips to the store only to find the product not order and available as promised. She in fact LIED directly to me stating she orders the food and I am at fault for not picking it up. I shared I can order the food online and have it delivered to my door but would prefer to support local business. "Leslie" didn't show any commitment to her local store nor employing company, she simply conveyed she can care less if she follows through on ordering requested products, offends customers or loses revenue for her store/company. Not once did she seem to acknowledge failure to follow through with making her store product unavailable impacts the nutrition of the pet which is suppose to be an area of strong commitment of Petco. This store has repeatedly shown incompetence at customer service in this area without regard I have been a regular customer purchasing $200-300 food at a time from this store when feeding kitten food. I am a pet parent who excessively overindulges my cats. Petco has been a beneficiary of this over indulgence. I have worked harder at keeping myself a customer of this Petco store than this manager attempted in 5 minutes of time. "Leslie" was without concern for business nor pet, let a very good customer leave with a commitment not to return. I used to be a loyal PetSmart girl... but having moved to Iowa City, my choices are limited. So, when I discovered the new Petco here, I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and the store is always clean. The groomers are great with my 110 pound lab... which is a very big deal! When my previous groomer left Petco I continued to go there. Never again did I get the same service. I paid extra for shedless grooming and my dog came home shedding more. This never happened with my prior groomer. It's all about numbers, get them in and out. They recently had three groomers leave, which is a red flag. Wow, this place is really bad at grooming. I usually get my dog groomed in West Branch but I thought Petco is so much closer to me that I would give it a try. I have a Golden Doodle and he was in need but not really matted except for a little in the tail. They weren't any cheaper than my regular place $60 but I thought it would save me time. I dropped him off in the morning and finally at about 2:00 they call and said they would not work on him anymore because he was biting at them when trying to do his feet. I went and picked him up and he was a chopped up mess, it looked like they would start one place then jump to another and never finish anything. Even the body that they said the did do had all kinds of uneven spots. The real fact of the matter I think is that he was taking longer than they wanted and had dogs waiting to get done and figured they were loosing money on him. When I came in I went and watched them groom through the glass window and they looked like a bunch of rookies at a sheep shearing school. I also bought a pet there, so now they lost me for even shopping with them. GO TO A REAL GROOMING SERVICE!!!! By the way I still had to pay them $43 for what they botched. read more

This store is a piss poor place to send your pet for grooming. They lack decent customer service skills and expect you to leave your pet there for 4 hours!!! I took my dog in today for a full service bath and deshedding treatment. She was the very first appointment upon the store opening at 9am. We went back home, left again to do some shopping and then had lunch. Around 11:45am, we still hadn't heard from them so we decided to go in since we weren't too far from the location. Upon arriving and speaking to staff, they informed me that pretty much all they had done to my dog was a bath and she should be done in another 20-40 minutes. I was fuming!! I let them know that's BS!! I hate animals (especially MY dog) being locked up in cages for long durations of time, it's very INHUMANE!! So I told that morons to STOP wtf they were doing and demanded that they bring me my dog immediately. We still ended up paying the full $50 even though they didn't do 1/3 of the services. At that point, I simply paid the money because chances are if I would have stood there explaining to them how disgusted I was, my boyfriend probably would have had to bail me out of jail today for kicking some a** and taking some names!! This is the worst place to ever get your dog groomed. They are untrained, and don't care about your baby. I took my Great Pyrenees here and knew that he was blowing his coat, and was matted, very thick hair and needed to be brushed out, I have had this done many many times before for my dog. They shaved him bald everywhere!!! He is 135 lbs and since he has never before had hair removed from his legs, developed bleeding sore elbows, since they gave him razor burns all over he was sore and very depressed. When I told the Grooming manager she did not care and said I inititaled the sheet, Which when you read the fine print it does say that "they are not responsible for any injuries to your pet" SO with that said I say proceed with caution!!!! You are taking a huge risk and you should spend your money with an experienced groomer that cares about your pet and reputation and REPEAT business. I was so upset, my poor dog's hair will grow back, but seeing him still a week later bleeding and sore on the elbow's is very very disheartening.... I will Nevver spend a dime at a Petco ever again. We took our 2 yr. old golden doodle in to be groomed and asked for a short cut. Well, 2 1/2 hours later they called to say he was done. It takes our regular groomer 5 - 6 hours. Picked him up and he had been shaved! By the time we got him home, we realized he had razor burns and was CUT multiple times all over his body! He has been traumatized! He doesn't leave our sight now and is a completely different dog! This is heart breaking! Talking with the regional manager, the "security tape" showed he was happy and tail wagging the whole time...really? We asked to see the tape but were denied. What are they trying to hide? We were offered a gift card and told we could bring him in for re-socialization training! A bad grooming we could of lived with but they "CUT" our dog! The sad part is that this groomer is considered the mentor! For a store who says they are all about the care and protection of animals, this is so very sad!!! read more

My two sons and I went in to purchase a couple of fish and fish supplies, as well as to select a new dog food. There were not nearly enough staff for this large store. We walked around and around searching for someone to help us. The three or four employees we saw spread out through the store were all helping other customers or grooming dogs. After more than 30 minutes, someone finally became available - she was very helpful and we found what we needed. Then for checkout - two employees were at the register trying to figure out how to split up our purchases so my boys could pay for their items themselves with gift cards. After 15 minutes, I finally just paid for everything myself so we could get going. It took over an hour to do what could have taken 20 to 30 minutes! This is a fine place to pick up supplies -- as long as you don't have any questions. Nice employees, but they need several more to keep things running smoothly! read more
