We have taken our two little dogs to pet o grooming for a few years now and Maggie did an excellent job grooming them. Maggie left and now you can't get the same groomer on a consistent basis. The prices have gone up over 80 percent. The last straw was we just scheduled them to be groomed and we get there and the staff says we can't groom cookie anymore because she has a heart murmur. Why couldn't they have told us that on the phone. It is in there system that she has one and they have groomed here for years. This quality of service is unacceptable and now it is time to find a new groomer. read more

Unlike other pet stores, Petco will not replace an expensive fish that dies quickly after purchase. They do not inform you of this or post signs anywhere saying as much. They are money hungry cheaters. Besides this, their dog grooming is also horrible. They did an unbelievably bad jog on our goldendoodle and overcharged us on top of it. Came in to purchase some goldfish and aquarium plants. Had to flag a worker down as no one asked if we needed assistance. Associate grabbed plastic bins to hold the fish and brought them over and asked which ones I wanted. Pointed out which ones I wanted, he asked about my tank size, I told him. He said they'd grow, I'd eventually need to upgrade, grabbed his plastic bins back up and walked off leaving me standing there. I left and won't be back. read more

Petco was once a very good place to get your dog groomed. Beware and listen closely to your dogs! They used to have coupons, but they started a program where you had to add ANOTHER invasive app. to your phone to get any kind of discount. Do they really think folks WANT another app. on their phones? Their prices also went up by one third. About the time they got the app. rolled out, they began to not answer the phone, and to not schedule over the phone. They assumed everyone does not want the personal touch and would rather schedule their appointments on a user unfriendly computer program! The straw that broke the camel's back was when they lost their best groomer. We chose to go to another groomer who was way better priced and close by. With the new groomer, we were prepared for the usual horrible wimpering, shaking, and our dogs not wanting to go in like they ALWAYS did at Petco. They went right in on the first grooming with the new groomer! No problems...walked back by themselves WITHOUT having to be pulled by the leash! Upon picking them up from the new groomer, they were much happier too! ******What was going on at Petco that caused them to wimper and shake horribly, pull back on the leash, and have to be pulled in the salon by the leash???? We may never know! We wish we had listened to our dogs and left Petco sooner. read more

A Mr. Kyle (Cashier) was extremely rude to me and showed a lack of respect for customers. I just pointed out a simple issue that needed to be cleaned up and his response was he had materials ready for me to do it instead of him. He then proceeded to argue with me back-and-forth on how he doesn't want to clean or do anything related to his job. Overall a terrible experience at this business and location. read more

Very poor experience! My husband took our daughter to get a goldfish. We have a 14 gallon tank, filtered, cleaned and conditioned regularly. We had 3 small goldfish for a long time and one recently died after the power outage. Tried to purchase a new one and the sales associate REFUSED to sell him a 30¢ goldfish. She said it our tank was too small (!!??!!) and it would be cruel and stressful to add another fish to the tank. Hubby said to her it was "just a goldfish, it'll be fine" and she said "I'm appalled that you would speak that way about it, that's why you shouldn't have any." Hubby said he was "appalled that you would treat a customer like this." When he asked if she would sell it to him to feed to another fish, she acknowledged she would. But yet she still refused to sell him one for my daughter. She insisted he leave the store. Mind you, their tanks have like 50 fish in them. He asked for a manager who also refused and asked him to leave the store. In front of our 7 year old daughter. That's fine. We won't give them another cent. Ever. And neither should you. read more

This store has a big problem with customer service. As well as the fact that they will tell you that you can get the price of the in store item for the online price , but when it is not listed on their site ...the on duty manager just shrugged her shoulders and says "sorry lots of things are not listed on line". I recently went to purchase a case of cat food that I purchase on a regular basis and they had jacked the price up over $5 then had a sign saying it was 15 % off. Which after i did the math put the product back to it's original price. Why do these companies think it's ok to treat us as though we are stupid? I buy a large amount of food per month as I am involved in local cat rescue. I will NOT be buying from PETCO any more. read more

We have never had good experiences here. This time a male customer tried to cut in line in front of me and a couple of other ladies. As soon as the register became free the same man bypassed all the customers ignoring that we were even standing in line. We all said something to him but he ignored us. When I reached the register I told Kyle, the cashier, how rude that customer was and that even he knew I was next in line. Kyle had the nerve to say with an attitude that "maybe I should've been paying better attention", in front of my children. Wow...thanks for correcting me in front of my children, Kyle. Very rude Petco grooming manager, had the audacity to call us idiots. never coming here again. I can't believe Petco would allow people as rude as that become a manager in there establishment. Here is the story, so we were picking up our other dog Kira from the grooming salon and we were in a hurry since we were also picking my cousins from there aunts and taking my other dog Maya to get her nails trimmed. Very hectic day, so we forgot to take off her vibration collar. The manager could have easily told me that my dog Maya did not need to have the collar on and I would have apologized for my mistake of forgetting. But she had to insult us for making that mistake. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to pick up a few things for my fur babies, cat nip and a few new toys to be exact. The store was pretty clean and organized. The only thing I noticed was the water all over the floor in the fish area, I guess that is to be expected since we're talking about fish, but that tile is a bit slippery. My friends two year old got a kick out of seeing the critters and reptiles, and I am happy to report that everything we saw was in fact, alive. If I am ever in the area again and need something for the fur babies... I'd have no issue going back here. read more

I took the previous review to heart because if I experienced that I would be pissed too. If it's an ongoing issue with this store, just call and get the DM's number. Oh they will inquire as to the reason of such a request, but they will ultimately provide. Such a call always has wonderful results. While I haven't had those experiences with the store, I do utilize it for small items.... rawhide bones, squeakies, dog and cat food... the usual pet store fare. I was in their store and was watching the Goomers. I saw one young lady grooming a black miniature schnauzer. She was taking her clipper and cutting from below the breast bone up to the neck. The hair was gone and as she kept cutting I noticed the poor dog's neck red with irritation. The puppy began to whimper and I tapped on the glass for the girl to stop. I was informed that she was a trained groomer. I left. My .heart aching for that dog. I have owned miniature schnauzers for years. You never never cut their hair like that. read more

Pretty good for a Petco, and they've gotten a lot better in the last year or so. Pretty big selection of cat and dog items, especially in the natural foods/treats arena. Definitely better than Petsmart on that front, and their prices tend to be slightly better (if still overpriced). The atmosphere is definitely better than the Central Park Petsmart. They seem to take very good care of their on-site pets, and most of the employees are friendly. Some of them don't really say 'hi' or anything, but they engage if you smile and say something to them. Their aquarium section isn't all that great and is seriously overpriced. Their markup is anywhere from 50% to 100% what it should be on almost everything. They've also stopped carrying some pretty standard items-- like NovAqua and Jungle anti-parasitic food-- and appear to be cutting their selection back even more. The employees, while generally friendly, don't bother to ask if you need help even if you're standing there, clearly trying to catch someone's eye. A lot of them seem to make a point of avoiding eye contact and walk faster to get away when they do. I hate having to chase people down going "Excuse me, excuse me." Definitely a lot of room for improvement, but still better than the local Petsmart. read more

I love the groomers! Audrey did a fabulous job on my Maltese, Tyrion. He was previously groomed by a local "Salon" that did a hatchet job. She cleaned up and trimmed his hair and buffed his nails, and he even got a sticker for good behavior. They understand the difference between fur and hair. Wonderful experience. read more

Did curb-side pick-up a few weeks ago and had a good experience. Went yesterday looking for a collar to help train my dog to not pull so much when walking. She gave advice and helped me pick out a collar and explained a technique I could use. Walked him twice now and he is walking a lot better. Would definitely recommend. read more

This Petco has an excellent staff of caring people who really do genuinely care about pet care. As someone who has previously worked at another large pet care chain, the dedication to proper animal care here at this Petco is above and beyond any other pet store I've been to in a very long time. The aquatics team is dedicated to ensuring the fish are properly cared for and homed based on the variety of fish and the management team takes great care of the employees, the store, and the customers. I have been going to this store for over 4 years now and it's clear that the staff here is a caring team dedicated to their jobs and the pets and families they serve. Highly recommend. I've been to this store so much I outta live or work there lol. With having 12 animals (7 cats, 4 dogs, and 1 veiled chameleon) and soon some fish it was important to me that I find the best groomer, food supply, and just overall a great place to shop for all my babies. This store is by far the best around my area. The fish are super healthy and any other animal I've seen go out the door has been too. In fact I've adopted my chameleon there and have had no health problems. The difference being the people there really care about the animals and the animals you take or have at home. Jerri, Jo, Kyle and Ken have been so amazing at helping me on the floor; Even when I ask them a million questions lol. They're so knowledgeable but if I stumble upon something they're not sure of they help me locate the person in the store that does. Their grooming department is just hands down the best especially Maggie, Allison, and Joanna. My pups nails are always perfect and they seem comfortable going to them. Even my mother in laws dog who hates getting her nails down was very calm in their care. So if you're wandering where to go for any of your pet needs it's this Petco! read more

The Petco on Rt 3 in Fredericksburg VA is openly discriminating against people with medical conditions and people with disabilities that prevent them from wearing a mask. I am a retired veteran and have a disability that makes it difficult to wear a covid mask. The Governor of Virginia's executive order on wearing masks allows for a medical exception for wearing a mask in public. However, after entering the store on June 5th 2020, I was asked to put on a mask or leave. After explaining I had a medical condition the clerk said store policy was no one entered without a mask and I was forced to leave the store. This goes against state policy and violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. read more

The staff at Petco was very thorough with the grooming service they provided. My dog was unsure and anxious about being there, but the caring staff treated her as though she were their own. They checked my dog first and explained the services that would be done. Afterward, they also reviewed what they did and how my dog did as well. They all worked well as a team and seemed to enjoy their jobs. read more

Since my last review, I have visited the store many more times without issue. That means no more swinging doors trying to kill me or my dogs and no check out problems recently. My latest visit I had bought a young female guineapig who I have named Rosey. About two weeks into having her I noticed she was growing. Normally this is good but the way she was growing looked like she was pregnant. Sure enough by the next month she had given birth to two healthy babies. One boy and one girl. To some folks this might be a complaint but for me it is not so Petco, thank you for the 3 for 1 deal. read more

Sorry Petco I have no luck with the products sold here. I bought rawhide had to return because it gave my pups diarrhea . I bought a dog toy that I paid $25.00 for opened the package and it was already broken. I'm mad once again I have to fight route 3 traffic not to mention gas money to return the product sorry I'm going back to petsmart where I never had an issue. When I booked my appointment for dog grooming we mentioned that one of our dogs had a dread naturally forming and that we needed their nails filed and not just cut. When I arrived we looked at the spot in the hair together with the groomer and they promised to file our dogs nails rather than just cutting them. Our dog STILL has the same dread (we just cut it out), and the nails need to be re-cut two days later because they weren't done correctly. read more
