Yes, they have dog training here, I was very happy to learn about it! I signed up my puppy for fundamental training as recommended by them. Bambina knows basics but she's not potty trained yet and I was very excited to have her potty trained. Few days before the class started, I got a call from the trainer and asked me what things I expect to learn, I told her potty training, leash walking and some tricks.. she said we will do all that. Fundamental training has a 5 sessions of 45 minutes each and graduation which you show up and the trainer will ask a dog to do a certain things. read more

Like most of the other negative reviews I've read thus far, the problem is with the grooming. I originally had an appointment for Monday 4.19.21. My appointment was cancelled and I received a call from Kim to reschedule for another day which was fine. We rescheduled for Thursday with Erika whom a family friend had already said does a bad job, but Milo really needed to be groomed so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. I was charged $91 but gave a $25 tip because initially Milo looked great. When we get home he's super thirsty, we refilled his bowl at least 2 times. He barely touched his dinner and I notice he's crying. He keeps licking his private parts and normally you just assume he's being a dog. Today when we take him for a walk, he's constantly stopping to lick his privates. When we get home from his walk I decided to check what was going on. I was baffled at what I saw, I was saddened and livid with the abuse that was inflicted upon my puppy. No one should have to pay for your dog to come home in pain, and bleeding due to the carelessness and the clearly terrible handling of animals. I will say when I contacted management they were very helpful, which I appreciate. However, it doesn't fix my dog, it doesn't stop his pain and it doesn't take away the fear he will now face when he has to be groomed. I will let the photos speak for itself. read more

I'm very disappointed of how my dog came back home. I took my dog for grooming this afternoon I went and pick him up and when I got home I was preparing his food and I see blood on his bed and I found out he is bleeding from his paw. I looked at it closer and they cut his nail very short till the point he was bleeding a lot. He has been so down since and it's so upsetting seeing him that way over something that could have been avoided if they were more careful with him. Very bad service I have a labradoodle full size, (95lbs) I paid $135 and the groomer was very bad, the dog looks awful doesn't look like a professional have done it, I made an appointment in advance and I had to wait 35 min to be attended by the lady who works in the grooming area, they didn't give water to my dog, he was drinking water like crazy when we got to the house, he's very friendly and is totally fine when is getting trim or a bath, so I don't understand the 4 hours I was waiting for him, they didn't do the full "seasonal package" not even a scarf when they ask for a tip which is not right. I do not recommend this place there is no reason to go there again, I don't care about the price if is a good service but in this case it looks like they hire people for the day, I'm very disappointed with their service and I'm not going ever back. The Petco on Jericho turnpike is my place to go for when Im in the need of food, supply, or pet advice. All the employees at this store are so knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions and great advice. I am a new cat rescue Mom with very little knowledge on how to raise a rescue kitten, I have found it very comforting to know that I can go to this petco store and ask for advice for my Jellybean (kitten). All the employees at this location are very kind and helpful. One day one employee made a cardboard litter box Shield to help with the litter being scooped out by Jellybeans paw. This was not necessary, but she went ahead and did it without any questions. that shows me that they love what they do and working at Petco is what they love to do. It takes a special kind of person to work at a pet store. I can see their hearts in their service and I appreciate all of their help and dedication. I purchased the Richards Pet Calm because me and my daughter's fur baby are heading to Houston soon. Fur baby has been with me for quite a while, waiting for his fur mom to get settled, so its time to let him go back to fur mom. The vet said that sedatives can work either by making the cats calm or hypering them up, so she suggested the organics pet calm as an alternative. Last night we gave the fur baby a trial run of the pet calm product to see how it may, or may not chill him out for his upcoming journey. It took about an hour to kick in on this 9 pound ball of fur, but he did appear to be super mellow and headed to his blanket for his 99th cat nap. Heading to his blanket early is odd, so I have to attribute his early night to the pet calm. As far as taste, he did not seem to like it even when I added it to a treat. Richards pet calm was recommended for both cats and dogs. read more

I was very disappointed with my Petco experience this past week. I scheduled an appointment for my dog to be groomed 3 weeks in advance because it was the only day that worked with my schedule since I work overnight. The day finally comes and I take my dog in, they're just going over last minute details like what kind of cut, how short etc. -getting her ready to go in. Right before she's about to go in, I disclose to the groomer that my dog unfortunately does have a seizure disorder but they are controlled with medicine and she did have her dose prior to her appointment. After I told him, he said he had to call my dog's vet to get clearance to be groomed. Now I have to wait for this supposed "clearance" only for 15 minutes later to get a call and the groomer tell me that it is against policy to groom a dog with seizure disorders. To clarify I am not upset about the policy, I understand that they do not want to be responsible in the event something happens especially since there is no vet/medicine on hand. My issue is that there should be a screening when you make an appointment or it should be stated in the policy that they will not take care of dogs with seizure disorders so I wouldn't have waited 3 weeks for this appointment that never happened. Number 2, if it is policy that they do not take care of dogs with seizures why did I wait 15 minutes for them to cal my vet for clearance if they wouldn't take her anyway? Employees need to be brushed up on policy because again a waste of time. Number 3, I wasn't asked if my dog had any heath conditions, I told them so had I not disclosed that information they would've taken her without an issue. Pretty disappointed with this Petco experience. I usually get my other dog groomed here but I am reconsidering where I'll be getting my dog supplies/grooms from in the future. read more

Took my dog to puppy school here, we completed the class and went to every session. My puppy tried his best but he wasnt very good at the commands. At the end of the class the teacher gave everyone else a certificate that they passed, and she told me my puppy needs another class, and he didn't get a passing certificate!! I was very upset, its puppy school for goodness sakes, just give us the win and say we passed!! Very unfair to my puppy, we were sad and defeated. He's a very smart boy! read more

This location has unsatisfactory grooming service. I booked a grooming appointment online in advance. When I arrived with my senior dog, the groomer told me that he was going to refuse service on my dog. His reason was because my dog is 16 years old and he thought was too much of a strain to spend 2 hours grooming him. He recommended I take my dog to the vet. My vet told me there was no reason my dog could not be groomed. So now we stop grooming senior dogs? I have used PETCO to groom my dog since he was 4 years old. He is 16 years old now. I took my pup on Saturday 12/19 for a deshedding and paid close to $100. The bath was a cheap one i guess since he only smelled fabulous for that day. The hair is still all over the place so i paid for the opposite. This was definitely the worst Petco Grooming service there is. Hair is all uneven. I called the store to ask for a full shave since this is unacceptable. I requested to speak to a manager and was hung-up on. *FYI they offered me an appointment for 12/26 at 5:00pm. I am a new cat owner. I have a mama cat and her two kittens. They just showed up at my door about 4 months ago and never left. I was looking for some good cat food for my felines and had no idea what was best. Sarah indicated that she had a cat and showed me different types of foods that were good. She took her time and helped me pick out some meals my cats would like. I really like this Petco because of the large selection of items. I especially like it for its exemplary customer service. I took my dog here because he had an infestation of fleas and he needed a thorough cleaning. I made an appointment and informed them that he had fleas. They let me make the appointment. When I brought him there they refused to take him because of the fleas and made a big show about it in front of everyone that was in the area. I was so embarrassed. I understand that they would have had to put more elbow grease in to get the fleas out but this isn't the way you treat customers. I took my dog to the Petco in Franklin Square. They took him as a walk in (which I am grateful for). The woman told me that it would cost extra because she would have to give him a flea treatment and I was fine with that. The Franklin Square Petco took excellent care of my dog and he is now at ease and flea free. I will never again return to the New Hyde Park/Garden City Petco and will also tell anyone that will listen not to go there. The Franklin Square Petco has a new customer for life. read more

Brought my dog in for the first time for a wash and cut. I chose the basic package $61. When I picked up my dog I was charged an extra $23 for the essentials package because the basic package didn't include shampoo or conditioner or cutting her hair with scissors, only buzzing. Really? You get charged for scissoring--Her words, not mine. Mind you, none of this was stated online when I booked the appt. She made that up. The essentials package was for an upgraded shampoo and conditioner, buffing the nails, and brushing their teeth. Nothing about using scissors to cut the dog's hair. Make sure you ask for a price before leaving your dog so they don't add on any extras. Although the haircut looked good, I won't be going back because of the upcharge I received that I didn't ask for. I felt cheated. read more

Just like other negative reviews here my issue is with the grooming department. I used to go to the Petco in Franklin Square but unfortunately they closed. I recently started getting my grooming done here because my groomer from Franklin Square is here now. I had a 10 day window to get a bath and haircut for my shih tzu because we will be going out of town and her hair has gotten very long. I called Petco 9 days ago to try to make an appointment but unfortunately my groomer was fully booked for the next 2 weeks or so. I agreed to allow another stylist to take care of my dog and made an appointment for today which she confirmed the date and time over the phone. My dad brought my dog in for her appointment and they told him that we had no appointment. I spoke them over the phone and basically whoever set up our appointment did not confirm it and nothing could be done. I found the person (I wish I got her name) on the phone to be a bit rude and completely unapologetic. She didn't seem to care at all that someone in her department made an error by not confirming our appointment. She didn't even offer to try to reschedule us. I was a bit ticked off but I decided to just let it go. That is until I spoke with my father at home and he told me he felt that the staff at this location were not very nice to him. I went to Petco Franklin Square for years and not once did I have a negative experience with their staff. The worst part about it is I earned a free bath and grooming from Petco because it is my 8th visit but it expires later this month. No other Petco locations nearby have any openings before we go out of town so we will basically lose the free grooming service we earned in the past 3 years. I am totally turned off by this place and their poor customer service. Despite my groomer from Franklin Square always giving us A++ service I have serious doubts in bringing by dog back to this place. read more

This is my first "suburban" Petco. I do'nt consider the one in Whitestone suburban because its in a giant strip mall that is pretty clean and built up. This Petco is a free-standing store and looks pretty shotty on the outside. I then realized that not everything looks "city-fied". But on the inside, it is just like every other Petco, filled w. animal items of all kinds. The dog section is actually really huge and takes up the majority of the store. I now go to the cat section and it has a pretty good selection of kitty toys (which I couldnt get any b.c. my booboo is spoiled enough). Theres also a wall where you can peruse some kitties for adoption - alot of them are adorbs and just want you to bring them home. Maybe next time we go I can get a friend for Taro.... read more

Be wary of what you are agreeing to. I called for the $70 bath and haircut and my husband went to get my short hair lab/terrier mix and haircut is great (why the 2 stars) but then all of a sudden bill is $120! Said I signed for deshedding (-'other $40) but when I dropped my dog off who was crying I asked what I was signing and they said just that I agree to vet care if necessary. Don't let the constant stream of dogs confuse you, read carefully because this is the last time I'll be going here because not what I asked for on phone. read more

I have been to this location multiple times and customer service is hit or miss. I don't know if they just don't have enough employees or how it works out, but it's usually that I go in and see a bunch of people more than willing to help me or I go in and see the one person on the register and it seems like there's no one else in the store. I've never seen this place too crowded. So I'm baffled by the way it works out when I shop there. They have a good selection a really good selection overall. They have a ton of different dog foods which is good because my little dog is fairly picky and what he eats. So we had to try a lot of different choices before he was happy. I love that they have things for the different holiday is and that I was able to get my dog a costume for Halloween. I would like to use their grooming service sometime but I worry that Hale, my baby, won't get along with people there. And it's against their policy for me to stay close while he's getting groomed. And since they won't muzzle him, I don't think will be using the service anytime soon. That's disappointing because they're close and it would just be so much more convenient if we could go there read more

I brought my 4 month old Maltipoo in to be groomed. We asked for a trim. The apointment was for 11:30 and we arrived on time. They made us leave her and called us hours later to pick her up. Instead of a trim, they completely shaved her! They said she was matted, which she was not! As I said, she is a Maltipoo, a breed with curly hair, not a Maltese, whose hair would be straight. If they did not know how to groom this breed, they should not have taken the dog. My daughter picked her up for me and they made her pay or they would not release the dog. I went in for a refund and the manager, Hamerton Joseph, had left the store for the day at 4:00. The teenybopper acting manager locked herself in the office to call him and he told her to give me a COUPON for a DISCOUNT on the next grooming! In what world would I ever bring my dog back there! I asked to speak to him on the phone and he refused to do so. I was told to come back the next day. While I was waiting, I showed the before and after pictures to 3 customers. One said "Oh no!" one said "Oh God!" and the third said "Oh my!" I disputed the charge with the credit card company and called Petco to complain about this.
