My experience is always wonderful here! The manager always greets us with a giant smile with a bubbly personality. Today though was exceptional. We were purchasing cat food for our boy Oscarand said 36 cans by mistake. As the store associate Arrianna was bagging our cans she noticed it was only 24!!!! We would have paid 30 dollars more by mistake, instead she saved us 30 dollars because she was actually paying attention and brought it to our attention then corrected. Once in the car going over the receipt we looked for her name on the receipt as we were driving away when I said stop there is none we gotta go back and get it beause people are too quick to complain and not compliment. She was so happy that this would be her first review and told me how she loves math. I even waited and shared the positive feedback with her manager who did not realize that numbers replaced names on recepts! The manager and staff are very helpful. Unfortunately, PetSmart does not stock the items fast enough in the store. Some of the fish they receive are not in the best shape, but the girl who maintains the store does a very good job bringing them back to health. Horrible groomers. Gave my dog a cut and lash and didn't even tell us. We took her to the vet to confirm that is was from the grooming. Huge cut and blood clot. They knew they did ut but purposely rushed her out the floor when we came to pick her up. To all dog owners, do not go there, this type of cover up should not be tolerated. read more

Took my dog for a bath here the groomer Raul talked me into purchasing a bath and full haircut meanwhile my dog was groomed 3 weeks prior. Still I listened to him and agreed to full bath and haircut. When I pick my dog up he cannot open his 1 eye and I had to take him to the vet the next day and he had an ulcer in his eye. This is a small white friendly dog with no prior issues ever at grooming he is 9. I should have known when I was dropping him off I've seen groomers hitting other dogs. They did not call me to tell me this happened they waiting until his grooming was done to call me and they butchered him the worst haircut of his life. The website is never up to make an appointment so I called almost 2 months ago. Was told my groomer is booked until the end of the year. She had 1 opening left which was today 9/14/25 at 2pm. I wanted appts for 2 dogs but because she only had 1 opening I took it to at least get 1 dog groomed. The guy on the phone assured me that I was all set. I take my dog there today and there is no appt and no openings. This is the 2nd time this was done and I am furious. My dog has an issue which stemmed from an incident with my past groomer. After a long search I found Lily at the New Hyde Park Petsmart. She was very understanding and my yorkies loved her. I took my two dogs for grooming on 8/4/24 , Golden Doodle and Golden retriever , retriever was just tor bath and brush out and got him back and looked and smelled like he wasn't even washed . The worse part is that my Golden doodle was in for a hair cut and bath and Raul (Groomer ) let me pick him up with out mentioning that he cut his ear , I didn't notice till I got in the car and noticed blood on his ear . If he would have called and said I'm sorry he was moving while I was trimming him , I wouldn't of had a problem , but the fact that they let me leave thinking I wouldn't notice is baffling. Bought a bristle nose pleco and all was going well. Noticed immediately after I introduced her to my tank that my goldfish started acting odd. I noticed a appetite decrease in both and flashing in my goldfish. I didn't think much and the next two days my poor goldfish had gotten ich. I wish they would not sell unhealthy fish which in turn will kill your existing fish in your tank! The shelves are so poorly stocked here almost nothing you are looking for is out. The most important thing that I want to address is that the animals are in horrible shape. Many of them are extremely skinny. The first time I went there there was a day gecko that was basically skin and bone. I told one of the workers and he said "you're right he doesn't look good I'll tell my boss" and the next day he was still on the floor for sale. I went back recently and there was a ball python in the same condition, some of the budgies had overgrown beaks and were clearly respiratory, and the fish tanks were in horrible, disgusting condition. I don't know what it's gonna take for management or corporate to go in and correct these issues but I hope this helps. read more

The great thing about this PetSmart is the Banfield Pet Hospital inside. We switched over from our regular veterinarian to here because of the great service we had in a free check up. We liked it so much we took out a health insurance plan for our cat. They are readily available and easy to talk to and answer questions about my cats' health. The store itself seems overly crowded to me. The aisles seem over stocked and stuffy, and when you have wagons and big dogs running down the aisles it can get very crowded. They do carry a lot of stuff but it is to be noted, maybe forgo bringing the pooch in if you don't have a vet appointment for their comfort and for everyone elses'. read more

Got a puppy trim/grooming for my puppy. They are really nice and all but when we picked up the pup, I was told he's too hyper and they can't really cut much. The trim he got was a bit choppy, uneven and looks like a bowl cut. I was expecting them to be able to do a better job. They weren't able to pull the ear hairs bc he was too hyper. Other than the nail trimming, I can prob do his cut at home. They have the cheapest price for a puppy grooming in the area but you get what you paid for. read more

Since it's such a big name store you would expect it to be a great customer experience. WRONG! If you need to get your dog groomed do not come here. I have made countless appointments here and they always mess it up. Either the lady I try to book with is "out sick" or they do a horrible job. I only go there because it's literally down the block from me. I made an appointment a week in advance came here yesterday morning and found out the lady I booked for was not working that day when I SPECIFICALLY asked for her schedule and waiting until she had an open slot. There is always an issue and after the 5th time I learned my lesson. I will not be going there. Just as an FYI. Some of the groomers do not know what there doing. Sorry. MOST of the groomers don't know what they are doing. Many times when I did go there I can see a lot of dogs that are barking and shaking and you can tell when you get there these workers don't care for them. There just doing there 9-5 job. However, messing up an online order we placed for in-store pick-up, where, out of 17 cans of our kittens favorite, hard to find food, only 12 were in the bag, tends to ruin the experience for me. Now we have to bring all of the cans back to the store in order to rectify their mistake. You may not, but I find it annoying and inconvenient. If i could give 0 stars for their grooming service i would. Firstly, they continuously cancel grooming appointments because of call outs of their staff and groomers running late. I have come twice at my grooming time to have to wait 45 min for my dogs groomer to finally show up, and when she did, she seemed far from interested in him. Secondly, they have shaved my husky's whole tail off, and he got razor burn and we had to take him to the vet because he couldn't walk for a week and was screaming in pain! The manager Matt couldn't care less about the store and dismisses issues. Whoever is running the pet grooming department should be re evaluated and have a reality check, as it is a huge mess with workers who could give a shit about the dogs and their job. This is my go to for everything pet with me! There was a young man who worked there who really helped me big time with a bunch of fish. We went to the same high school, as per his high school ring! And most importantly, he helped when I was most vulnerable. My dog Rupie took a massive dump on the floor and this young man cleaned it spic and span. So fifi my Yorkie has been coming here for grooming for the last 2 in a half years and I've had no issue!! Yesterday i brought fifi in for grooming and Amanda B was her grooming can i say she is the most sweetest person ever. We all know Yorkies need extra attention and my dog is one of them. It's nearly impossible for me to control her but Amanda did so great! And made her look beautiful and got all the details i asked for and usually my dog is all like sad after a grooming but this time she was handled with such care that I'm beyond happy this time. Too bad I could not give negative stars for this establishment! Checker at counter- very discourteous and unprofessional. She purposely allowed a customer to cut in front of me in the line. When I mentioned it to her, she said she did not notice. Also, she pulls out a bag of popcorn and begins eating it while I am still in the process of checking out!! Is this in line with PetSmart policy?! I am hopeful that the store manager will address proper procedure with his staff, i.e. courtesy to customers as well as making sure that customers are served in turn. Doesn't even deserve 1 star. I've been getting my pup groomed at various PetSmart's since she was born. I just moved to the area, and PetSmart grooming New Hyde Park REFUSED to groom my dog. They said that because she was a "senior" dog with breathing problems, she should be groomed at her vet...the kicker, her vet is Banfield, located WITHIN the SAME BUILDING. Her breathing problem, is collapsed trachea, which is extremely common in smaller breeds. She has never needed any sort of medical attention for the issue, she just coughs when she gets excited. The gentleman on the phone clearly had NO idea what he was talking about, insisting I needed to take her to the vet instead. So now, apparently, I need to find a new vet, in order to have my dog groomed. I would not recommend this location to anyone. Rude, uninformed and inexperienced. read more

Brought my dog here for the first time. As I entered the grooming salon to retrieve my dog, the groomer approached me and said "wow, he's a barker!". In shocked, I said that's weird because he doesn't really barker. She said he barked the whole time. I said he only barks if he feels you are suspect. She respond, " I didn't groom him, he did." I explained that he loves going to the groomer and is well known for being such a pleasant dog, so maybe he didn't enjoy the space here. As the other young lady went to retrieve my dog, I noticed that my dog was still wet. Honestly, I believe the groomer should be more concerned that her job was done effectively before commenting on the type of dog I don't have. Dropped my dog off for grooming at 10:30. Usually takes an hour or two for a cut. By 2:00 we became concerned and called. Someone there said he was ready. My wife went there and they said he wasn't and she needed to come back in 20 minutes. My dog spent 3 hours in a cage and they rushed the cut at the last minute. I don't know about you but my dog has never been in a cage much less than for 3 hours. No comments or apologies for their behavior. I will never bring him there again. read more

With this review, I will not benefit in anyway, however I hope that this will help other owners who love their pet to gain an insight about PetSmart's groomers. Our groomer was Arturo and this other young assistant/co-worker. Before the grooming process started, they implied multiple times that we could go shop in the store and come back later, however I insisted to stay and watch. They started around 8:15-8:20 by trimming her nails and cleaning her ears, which took max 5 minutes because they quickly wiped the inside of her ear (when I was expecting something more because I purchased ear wipes in the past and I do the same thing) within seconds. (throughout this processes, my kitten was calm and cooperative). After that, they took her to the back to bathe her, which took them about 10 minutes. (again, I stayed with them in the room the whole time and I kept a close eye on the time because they seemed in a rush to leave the moment I walked in). When they brought her back, they said that she would be too scared for the hair dryer, however I insisted to give it a shot but my kitten did 'supposedly' get scared so instead they just kept towel drying her for good 15 minutes, while talking to another customer MEANWHILE my kitten was shivering/shaking in his arms. After the customer had left, they bad mouthed the customer's pet and hoped they wouldn't return, which I found very unprofessional since I was right in front of them. After she was a little dried up, they put her on the table to do the sanitary trim. My kitten didn't react really well with the razor (which is expected) and starting acting crazy where she scratched the co-worker (who responded by simply just stepping away and yelling "f***" instead of calming my kitten), Arturo tried to calm down my kitten by holding her from the leash which grew tight around her neck which really freaked me out. I had to tell him to stop pulling because it looked like she was strangling in it. After my kitten was calmer, he put her in her carrier which is when I saw how tight the leash actually was. It was so tight that I couldn't even put my pinky in between to loosen it up. I genuinely grew scared for her well-being when I saw how they were handling her. They work with pets everyday, they should know better and should know how to deal with a pet that goes crazy. Instead Arturo was trying to pin point everything on my kitten (who is an animal) for scratching his co-worker and insisting on not working or doing anything else. After she was in her carrier, I noticed that she didn't smell good at all, I thought she pooped is how bad she actually smelled. While she was in the carrier, as I was petting her, running my fingers through her fur, to keep her calm, I noticed her hair was shedding so I asked Arturo to let me use a brush to get all the hair out since they were so scared of my 4 month old kitten. Instead, he responded by saying that I could go to the store and purchase one as he couldn't give me one (which makes absolute no sense because they didn't groom her when it was included in our package "15-mintue brushing"). Due to their lack of effort, we discussed the bill (the time at this point was 8:43- I remember because I texted my friend a picture of my kitten at that exact time when she was in the carrier). They charged me for two things, the bath-grooming package which was 19$ and the add-on 'moisturizing conditioner' which was 7$. I asked him if he even did the conditioner and he responded by saying that he replaced it with a shedding shampoo, which also made no sense because 1- shampoo was included in the package, 2- I paid extra to get the separate conditioner done and 3- Arturo didn't even bother telling me that he decided to change the shampoo when I was sitting the whole time talking to them while they were towel drying her. As an owner, it's my right to know exactly what they put on my kitten and what they decide to change. They cannot change a grooming package simply because its more convenient for them, regardless if we end up paying for the same package we chose initially. I chose the simple bath-grooming package but Arturo changed the shampoo to the de-shedding shampoo (mind you I never told him too, he just did it- probably because the previous cat that the customer came to pick up was a long hair breed who came for de-shedding). I started cross questioning him asking him about what he actually did use on her and he responded by saying ill take out the charge for the moisturizing conditioner. I didn't care about the money, I wanted to know why my cat didn't smell good. I'm not happy at all by their efforts, lack of professionalism and knowledge on how to handle an animal. These people are expected to know how to tame an animal when they freak out, not just give up because of a small scratch. I ADVISE YOU TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, IF NOT, STAY IN THE ROOM THE WHOLE TIME AND ASK THEM WHAT THEY'RE DOING CONTINUOUSLY. read more

I've shopped here a few times. Prices are a bit high. For example, a bag of cat food costs $6.49. The same bag can be bought for $4.50 or less everyday at Stop and Shop. Also Stop and Shop is always fully stocked while the last time I shopped here for cat food only one bag remained of the brand I was looking for. My last visit here I asked the cashier if they had a sales circular. He acted like he had never heard of a sales circular. I had to explain it was a paper with sales for the week or month. They didn't have one which gives me even less reason to shop here if they never have sales. But I'd really like to know how they employ someone who doesn't know what a sales circular is. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. I have been having my overly friendly( to the point of annoying) schnoodle buzzed since he was 4 months old. Never one complaint one place actually stated they felt bad charging full price because he was so good. Today I got called to say they were done, however he had been problematic so they weren't able to buzz all the way so they had us scissor cut. When I went to pick him up a groomer from the back who is cutting another dog's hair at the time started to yell across the room how he was misbehaving and jumping all around and yelping. I merely said I'm very surprised he's never had a problem she immediately snaps back at me saying well I can prove it I'll bring him out here and when I touch him he'll yell. So I said please don't I believe you I just now believe that it's your fault. They place was packed every table had a dog on it there were dogs in the back yelping and 4 waiting to be checked in. They charged me full price even though his hair is only HALF cut. He looks ridiculous they did not grind his nails like I paid for, and he didn't get the Cologne spritz or any of the other extras that were on my bill. She threw the door open and had him on the leash that belongs to them. She said well where's his leash and I said you have it then she just rolled her eyes went in the back got it and gave its me needless to say I did not tip her and I will never be going back.
