Minus STARS. Caution. Groomers cut my dog's tail. They tried to stop the bleeding. Never called to let us know what was happening. Finally called us to pick up dog after over an hour later because the bleeding wouldn't stop. Long story short, our baby had to go to the vet immediately.VET had to amputate a portion of his tail off so they could then stitch him back up again. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I Just moved to Long Island 7.months ago. My fiancé and I have been looking for a new GROOMER for "Chase". We came across "Sugar And Spice Pet Grooming" set up an APPOINTMENT. For Wednesday, June 17th 2024 at 9:30AM. My fiancé took chase to his grooming appointment that MORNING. (He specified how we would like Chase haircut and even showed a picture) When my fiancé picked up "Chase" from Sugar and Spice Pet Grooming at 11:45AM. (Chase had the worst haircut EVER) My fiancé NOTICED that one side of "Chase" FACE was LONGER than the other side, so he asked if they could make it even. He was told that they would try because "Chase" moves to much and is DIFFICULT to work with. (Although there was really no fixing the horrible haircut he already had) When I got home that EVENING around 7:25PM, I noticed "Chase" was acting a little strange, like he was SCARED and would CRY if I would try to touch him (Specifically around his chip area). . If you're looking for a great place to have your dogs groomed that is local and affordable, this is the spot! First impression when walking in: WOW! Clean! Not even a hint of dog stench - just the smell of clean shampoo filled the place. They have beautiful hard wood floors with the cutest little waiting room. I peered behind the curtains to see an immaculate grooming station and office. The woman who groomed my dog was a complete sweetheart. I had tall orders for how to groom my shih-tzus and she was more than happy to comply. When I went to pick up my pups, they were both in such a pleasant mood! Worlds difference from when they leave the vet groomer shaking and traumatized. It looked like they had a completely relaxing experience, and I appreciated that tremendously because that's one of the things I worry about the most with having my pet groomed. How they're going to be handled and treated. It was obvious to me that they were handled gently by genuine dog lovers. Now for the hair cuts. They looked awesome! Both came to me with adorable bandanas around their necks, and a cute pink bow in my female's hair. Their coats are soft and silky and they smell great without an overwhelming perfume scent. My male's hair was cut into a mohawk which looks so cute! They're both cut evenly and very neatly. Their ears were plucked and nails clipped, tushies shaved clean. Absolutely no complaints here. The cost per pup (6 lb and 12 lb shih-tzus) was $50 each. I believe this to be a very fair price for the wonderful job done. I have finally found my permanent groomer! read more

To all you dog owners that are considering using this groomer for your fur babies please reconsider. My finance picked up our 2 year old Australian Shepard from what was supposed to be a routine grooming day which took 6 and a half hours only to find when he got home a severe laceration. I immediately called to try and find out how this happened, to only be told it must have been a tumor and that he had it when he came in . Now for those of you that don't know me, my fur baby is like a son to me. I was treated very unprofessionally on the phone and worse when I showed up with him because she asked me to bring him back. Dana and her partner, teamed up and proceeded to yell and even went as far as admitting that my dog is sometimes hard to handle and then they admitted that they did not see his laceration. Which is pretty hard to believe, because he was still bleeding when he got home 20 minutes later.Don't get me wrong, I understand this can happen, however, a professional establishment would have brought it to our attention instead of charging us full price and denying any fault with 3 different excuses. My mother and I have been using this groomer for a long time now. They've taken great care of my blind dog Rocky and are currently grooming my mothers old deaf boy Sunny and my new pup Finn. On these bad reviews... Kona K is just an idiot and Angel S. most likely neglected grooming her dog and its hair became badly matted. SOMETIMES if it's really bad, the animal may get cut while trying to get the matted hair off. It happens. Don't want it happening? Then remember to regularly groom your dog. I definitely recommend taking your animal here, I've never had any problems with them, actually it's the best place we've been to so far. They've treated my dogs well and are friendly whenever we're there. read more

It's always difficult to find a good dog groomer in our area. Many places close or simply do not want to deal with our family dog. She is a bit temperamental around strangers and, as a result, groomers tend to give her a poor haircut. She is a little dog, but she is very feisty. I noticed Sugar & Spice as I was driving around my neighborhood recently and we thought we would give them a shot, since the last place we went to gave our poor dog a bald spot on her leg without even explaining why. Not only did Sugar & Spice give our dog a cute haircut, but they were very professional and pleasant to deal with. I think we found our new dog groomer! read more

I have been taking my dog for a bath to Dana for 3 years, he's a tempermental asian breed who needs lot of patience and time to calm before bath time which shes well aware of and has always been able to manage him. This morning I dropped him off at 9:20 for his regular bath appointment and she was already pretty much refusing to take him saying it might not be good day for him even though I walked him for 20 mins before hand to calm him down. Then she takes him in at 9:30 I come home, 2*** hours go by she calls me telling me she's having trouble managing him and to come pick him up- which is absolutely unacceptable to leave him in most likely in a cage for almost 2 hours - I come to pick him up angry as any other dog owner would be I said to her I'll take somewhere private who can manage him she immediately got defensive and said it won't work that way either had I taken him somewhere private and denying she kept him for 2 hours which she clearly did 9:30-11:30 is 2 hours ** that was the time I picked him up, I stated to her she could have called me after an hr atleast to pick him up but instead she took him for 2 hours there who knows what happened to him then she started yelling at me and called me rude soooo unprofessional- I have never been treated like this before as a customer I am in shock she had the audacity to yell at me like that when I always give her business and tip her over 10$ each time on the service she's provided for my dog . I will NEVER bring my dog to her again, keeping him in a cage for that long is torture for him and now he's been sad sleeping all over the house from the distress, god only knows what happened in the back to him for that long... I brought my 13 year old Pomeranian here for grooming when I received the worst customer service and cut I have ever experienced in my life. I have been getting my dog groomed every 8 weeks or less for the past 13 years and never received such horrible service. I can get over the haircut but to know my dog was in the care of a person that would behave in this manner is the scary part. For someone to put my dog in pain and proceed to continue grooming instead of calling me and still do an absolutely horrible job is someone that should never have the right to work with animals. If you care the slightest bit about your dog please don't bring them here or you will for sure regret it. A picture was shown of the cut I wanted, which was pretty much a lion cut, and what I was given was something I never seen before and absolutely horrible. I can understand someone making a mistake but the response I received from the owner of the shop was the most appalling part. I called to see what happened since I was not able to pick him up due to being at work and she hung up on me. Instead of apologizing for her horrible job she proceeded to lie and state she had to cut him this way because his hair was matted. When I explained that this would be impossible since I groom him every night before he gets in my bed she then started to say she had to cut him this way because he was coughing too much and in pain. I was confused as to why she would continue to groom my dog if he was in pain and excessively coughing instead of calling me to pick him up and she couldn't come up with a logical answer so she began to yell, lie, and then hung up the phone on a paying customer. I am a physician and work 60+ hour weeks but had to take the time out to write this review because I would hate for someone and their pet to have to go through this horrible experience. Do not take your pet to this grooming salon. They do not have much experience, no customer service skills & are very unprofessional. They cut my dogs penis and testicles while grooming him & didn't even care. They placed all of the blame on me, didn't apologize & didn't acknowledge their wrongdoing. Months after leaving my yelp review informing others of my negative experience, one of the groomers sent nasty messages to me on yelp, calling me names, and stating her true feelings about how she felt about my dog and I. She called my dog a matted mess & called me a pig amongst other obscenities. This is the perfect example of the unprofessionalism you'll experience if you take your pet here. I will post screen shots of the messages. If you care about your pet, you would not go there. There are others who have complained about this shop. I wish I saw the hidden reviews before taking my pet there. Read all of the reviews and you'll see stories that are similar to mine. Unfortunately, my dog & I had to learn the hard way. After having a bad experience with a local groomer in Rockville Centre (see my review of Trezzor) we stumbled on Sugar and Spice in Lynbrook and had a wonderful experience. Our dog -- a 1.5 year old Old English Sheepdog -- weighs about 65 lbs and she's very hairy. She had never had her haircut before so we were a little anxious about how she would behave for the groomer, but Dana handled her wonderfully. Our dog came home with a very cute haircut (and a complimentary polka dot bandana). She had no cuts, bald spats or razor burn marks. She smelled like roses and Dana gave her the look we had asked for. Definitely going back here! She was also very professional, kind and not afraid to get down on her hand and knees to evaluate the dog's coat unlike the groomer we had gone to in RVC. I have been bringing my dog to sugar and spice for over 5 years. Dana the owner is always so kind and accommodating. I cant say that about her staff. Today my husbands received the call our dog was ready for pickup, she's usually ready after 2pm which works out for us as he works. Today she was ready earlier, well one of the staff members calls him extremely rude saying you must come pick up your dog Right Now! this isn't a boarding kennel she's barking non stop and we don't have room for her. My husband whos stunned at how she is yelling at him tells her ma'am I wont be able to get there for another hour as didn't expect her ready this soon i am not around (which mind you we have had this happen prior w no issues) well this time no. He walks into the establishment and the owner comes out with our dog and apologizes immediately knowing her employee was wrong as he is telling her about this employee- here comes this employee from behind the door and continues yelling cursing at my husband in front of her boss Throwing up the middle finger to my husband! Can you imagine this?? And the owner not even stopping her! we have been loyal customers have referred countless people to this establishment to be treated this way is disgusting!! I will never be returning here! Highly disappointed in the way the owner handled this situation! instead of defending someone supporting her business she allows someone to curse yell and disrespect a customer!! This place is awful, do not bring your dog here. We brought our dog there and they cut a huge gash in his leg. They also did not tell us when we picked up the dog. We noticed it later on that day when our dog was acting strange. When we went back to there they made some half ass excuse that they did not notice it. A cut this large defiantly made the dog cry. Brought my 5 months old puppy on July 6th to "Sugar & Spice" Pet grooming at 146 Hendrickson Avenue in Lynbrook, NY for a bath and this is how she was returned to me. I asked the owner why was my dogs face bleeding and she proceeded to say that it was not blood and that she just cleaned the gunk out of her eyes. If you look at this picture my puppy is now missing 2 patches of hair on either side of her nose NOT EYES and is bleeding. Clearly this is not someone who cleaned gunk out. I brought her to the vet and was told it looked more like a razor burn. She now has antibiotic ointment and a cone around her neck. This groomer was not one bit sympathetic or apologetic. This is making me a give her a star to continue but I don't give her any. She was defensive and rude, what are you hiding??? read more

We decided to bring our furry American Eskimo to Sugar and Spice because it was less expensive than other groomers. But after seeing the results I would rather spend $100 more dollars than take him back there. Let me make this clear, when our dog was dropped off it was made clear that we wanted a trim and not too much off because of his breed. The first issue was that he was there from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, which is ridiculously long and slow. Also during our dog's stay there, we received a call from the groomer telling us that our dog needed a "little extra" hair taken off due to knots, and this seemed okay because we thought the groomer had knowledge of what she was doing. However when we went to pick him up, I was shocked to see that they had shaved my dog completely of his beautiful white coat. The groomer became snippy telling us of how we don't properly comb our dog and she said that she had no choice. It was obvious that she doesn't know what a "little extra" means! She didn't even feel bad for her butchering of my dog, and to top it off she robbed us of our money. Sugar and Spice is advertised as having $40 groomings, but apparently 20 lb. digs classify as big dogs which is ridiculous and a scam. This was the worst grooming service ever and I will never return to Sugar and Spice. We have brought our Cocker Spaniel/Shih Tzu mix to at least 4 other places and were not really totally satisfied. A co-worker suggested Sugar and Spice so I thought why not? He has been there at least 5 times and every time we were happy. He does not like anyone touching his paws and messing with him so the fact that they have trimmed his nails and groomed him so nicely is a testament to how good they are. He seems happy when we pick him up and he looks and smells great! Their prices are very good also. No complaints at all and Dena is a very sweet woman. read more

I would recommend this place to everyone! My Maltese had a horrible experience at A-dog-able in Lynbrook a few years back where they cut his stomach badly and didn't tell me, so my dog and I have both been a little traumatized since the experience. I have been taking him to the same groomer for the past 3 years and as nice as they are, they just weren't giving him a good cut. I took him to Sugar & Spice for the first time this past weekend. The place was immaculate, smelt wonderful, (not like wet dogs) and more importantly the woman who groomed him was so sweet and very thorough in asking me exactly how I wanted him cut. When I picked him up he was calm and looked absolutely adorable! It was exactly how I wanted him. He smelt so good and had a cute little bandanna around his neck. She even said if I took him home and saw something I didn't like I could take him back to fix it up free of charge. I had no complaints once we got home though! The cut was even all around, his body was so soft and fluffy and his face and ears were short like I asked for. Prices were very reasonable to begin with but this kind of attention and customer service meant the world to me and I will continue to bring my dog here! read more

I had the great pleasure of dealing with Dana from Sugar and Spice a couple of weeks ago. I run Tri-State Shetland Sheepdog Rescue, Inc. in Nassau County, a non-profit 501c3 Shetland Sheepdog and Collie Rescue. We had a Collie severely matted come in to rescue and due to kennel cough, I could not bring him into my vets office to groom. He was in horrid condition. I called Dana who was kind hearted enough to open her shop on her day off where no other dogs would risk getting sick and take Wally in to groom him as he was also very stinky and so, so itchy. This was a boy with a lot of hair and Dana did a wonderful job on him and had him feeling so much when I picked him up. I swear he had a spring in his step! She was wonderful, caring and gentle with our rescue boy, hugging and kissing him and I would recommend her services to anyone thinking of giving her a try. She is new, but really so good and dedicated. She honestly cares about the dogs and being gentle with them. She will be grooming more of our rescue dogs in the future. read more

Your dog was matted and your pictures look worse than what was actually there. The dog had urine burn on his penis from matting and if u were a responsible owner yuou would hv. Had your pet Neutered in the first place. You forgot to mention how you tried to swindle hundreds of dollars out of my boss for a vet bill when you already had coverage for your dog.
