I called the store 20 minutes before closing time in search for a dog bed that would fit my Senior Chihuahua's special needs. One of the employees, Devon, answered my call. I gave him a detailed description of what type of dog bed I was searching for. He completely understood what I needed. He stayed on the phone with me 10 minutes after closing time, patiently & empathetically listening to me. He didn't have to do that. Devon gave me 30 minutes of his time at the end of his shift. Never once did he make me feel like I was being a bother. His kindness as well as understanding meant so much to me. I'm 58 years old & always had house dogs. In all my adult life, I've never contacted a pet store for information & been treated with such kindness, empathy, & patience. Decided to tell us we are only allowed to buy 4 fish until we bring in a water sample to prove our tank is atleast 3 days old. How can they tell how old the water is? They told me to just take a sample in a regular tuperware....Not to mention they sold us things without making sure we had everything we needed to actually use those items... There are a few people who work here who are helpful and kind, and I commend all of you for such high quality customer service. It is very unfortunate that I have to write this review. Today at around 5:00pm my husband came in to buy gold fish and mollies. The lady who was working the fish section (we can't remember her name but she was a little heavy set, pale skinned with black hair down to her shoulders) was EXTREMELY rude and short with him when inquiring about fish and other aquarium supplies. It was very upsetting to receive such attitude because we actually come here a lot since moving to Killeen. I really hope this lady can get some customer service lessons. read more

Today i was really upset with a condition of a snake. I watched as this $800 snake struggled to pass a bowel movement. It was clearly and severely dehydrated and malnourished. The young lady told me theyve had it for over a month. The poor thing had stuck shed all over it. Couldnt take a simple dump and was so skinny you could see literally eveything on it. I offered 100 to take it. I was laughed at and was told that they would soak this snake and tell their manager or whomever once they were back from vacation. This isnt an over night fix. A "soak" isnt going to plump her back up. I was absolutely in shock an awe. Poor snake. Probably just going to die there or euthanized. read more

I would never recommend this place for grooming at all !!! took my dog in friday the 11th at 10 am to be shaved off because he was matted (mind you i have taken him to other groomers in the past he was worst than that day so i knew the process was going to take all day and i didn't mind paying extra because i knew it was a lot ) so it was our first time here took all of his paperwork regarding shots and rabies and spoke with the grooming she seemed nice told her i was him to get to holiday spa and i knew it was gonna be a lot for my dog so a nice spa/pamper would be great for his skin and because his birthday is coming up soon (december 26th ) i wanted to treat him right! she said of course ill make sure of it and i did tell her that he had an ear infection that was clearing up to remove hair in his ear so it would be better she had me initial and told ok look around 118 but could be more i was fine with that and she will call me when he's ready ... around 4-5 i get a call saying my dog was ready went to go pick him up and saw him so nervous i figured cause he missed me so he wanted to go , grooming told me he was good and all ready to go ended up paying 120 something completely fine groomers gave me a 20% off as a sorry for taking all day which was really nice for her but i was the one saying sorry for the work she did i like to keep my golden doodle shaved off but the process of moving to another state and finding a good grooming place that woulnt charged me a ridiculous amount because of his breed was hard to find... so we went home he was no anxious and he went straight to his crate in my mind i was like ok... well i guess goodnight Oso ... next morning went to take him out so he can go pee hw was all curled up didn't want to get out of him crate had to force him up he wouldn't stop shaking that when i notice the blood my dog is of light fur so any little thing you can notice ... MY DOG HAD BLOOD DRIPPING FROM THE BOTTOM OF HIS TWO EARS ON THE TOP OF HIS HEAD, NECK , BODY AND PRIVATE PARTS !! tried calling the store the store no answer tried calling on sunday no answer so i called corporate told the person everything that had happened took my information himself said he was trying to called the store with no answer as well so he told me i would get a call regarding my experience and the store manager would call me later today ... he ended up calling the next day . THIS MANAGER WAS COMPLETELY RUDE answering the call pretty much like so i got a call from corporate saying you had an issue with your grooming last friday sorry this is the first time I'm hearing about regarding last friday (like it was a long time ago ) so i told him yes last friday like 2 days ago friday and been trying to call the store saturday & sunday with no answer so i called corporate... then he goes ok... was the issue so i began telling him everything and then he stops me and goes on with wellll i heard my groomers side and that's the reason why your dog is bleeding from his ear because of the ear infection ... so i stopped him and told him excuse but how is an ear infection is the reason why my dog is bleeding from the bottom of his ear the top of his head neck body pretty much everywhere I TOLD HIM I HAVE PICTURES IF HE WANTED TO SEE OR IF HE WANTED ME TO GO IN but he goes i don't need pictures ill take your word (but yet is cocky/rude talk was like I'm making all of this up) he was like oh well if you are not satisfied with the grooming next time you can have the head groomer groomed him , stop him and told him no I WILL NOT COME BACK AT ALL and i told him the groomer seemed nice and if it was something she couldn't of handle then she shouldve told me from the begging or hey just take him somewhere else , (never have i had a groomer cut him up this much actually at all ) so he goes if you wanna take him to the vet we would cover it , (yeah but you don't cover the walking fee the antibiotics ) i ended up buying ointment for his cuts and the vet had no opening but she did see him and was like oh no ( like damn they f up) but the ointment should be ok for him. store manager quintin you should treat people better in fact you shouldnt be a manager at all ( called corporate and talk to someone about your attitude ) and i will get my refund back , here's some of the pictures of how my dog end up and you guys tell me if I'm making all of this up ... think twice if you want to take your dog to petco harker heights ( i pay extra "THE HOLIDAY PACKAGE" to pamper him not cutting him up ) read more

I have taking my dog to Petco for training and for pet grooming. Kaitlyn was the dog trainer I used actually I use the gentleman as well but I can't remember his name I think it was Jared. They both did a great job with my dog but I did not continue and complete the training because of personal issues that I had. Teresa does the grooming for my dog and she doesn't excellent job. Although my dog is anxious to come back to me she loves her time with Theresa. I've seen the negative comments and feel if you need help ask for it. All their staff have been helpful but give you the privacy you may need instead of being pushy. They worked with my schedule to accommodate my needs when giving Basti a bath or anything else I needed. If the words here are jacked up blame voice to text. Sorry. read more

Pros Much like other Petco's, this one was clean good location a decent sized store with plenty of products fish section was good Cons wish they had more animals, but not a big deal. They had quite a few. walked beyond the fish area and had a question, but saw no one within like 50 feet. I'm assuming they may have all went to registers to help. No big deal. read more

Today I shopped there for my GS. The 30 minutes I was there I kept hearing this poor dog crying. Very loud. A horrible cry. It just hurt my heart. It was somewhere in the back by grooming probably locked up in a cage. It was horrible. None of these workers were giving it attention or checking on it. I would never take my dog there. I said something to the cashier and all she replied "yeah, someone misses their mommy". Really? This business does not care about the well being of animals, only money!!. I only take my dog to self wash. Ill do it myself. There is no way I will let any groomer touch my pet. 30 minutes of crying out loud like it was in pain....no way I could allow a pet to be in agony and not check on it. We were looking for a cockatiel to replace our daughter's cockatiel that died in November (I had had him since 2003 as a capture in a friend of a friend's barn so we had no idea how old he was!), PetCo was the only place that had a cockatiel at the time. The cockatiel our daughter picked out we were told, had been returned 2x! She was up on a perch huddling by herself. This cockatiel never chirped, never seemed interested in much. Other than that, she seems fine except she rarely left her perch. Her beak grew exponentially early last month pretty much over night and we could not do anything to save her! It was too late to return her as they have a 30-day policy. We are now convinced they sold us a sick bird. The food they suggested we feed her was bad. This is not the first negative review I've posted about this PetCo. We gave them a second chance ... they failed! How is this place still in business with people working there who, although they love animals, know nothing about them? read more

I would rate zero if I could. The customer service was terrible, I bought 5 gold fish and the lady was being very rude. I came home then slowly added them to my aquarium to not shock them and over the course of 3 hours one of the fish kept rising to the top of the tank and just floated around for 3 hours and 1 hour later the fish stopped moving then died. The same day another fish started to do the same thing. I have only had the fish for 6 hours. I believe I was given unhealthy fish. I will not be returning to this store. read more

Groomer: We love getting our puppy groomed at this location. Their customer service for grooming is always great and our pup has had two great experiences and looks awesome both times. I'll be returning for grooming services. I can't say the same for the rest of the staff. Their customer service is terrible. Back in May I placed an order for store pickup, but decided to cancel my order. I was already in-store buying another item so I requested they cancel my online order. The cashier was rude and acted as if she didn't hear me. I asked again if she can cancel my order and she said it would automatically cancel in a few days if it's not picked up. Instead of helping me in-store I was blown off. Today, I went to check out for grooming services and brought a merchandise card and a 10% of full bath & haircut coupon. The coupon and remaining balance of the merchandise card did not apply. I told the cashier and she said I'd have to call customer service after paying the balance. I asked her if she could check the balance on the merchandise card and she said, "if you swiped it and nothing applied then there's nothing available". I ended up paying the entire balance and leaving the store because at that point I was irritated. After calling customer service they reimbursed me the 10% from the coupon but advised the store can only check merchandise card balances as they do not have access in corporate. This store has lazy employees who are completely unhelpful. I wish I could leave no stars. read more

My dog went in Monday for a hair cut, nail trimming, ear cleaning, shampoo, etc. The cost was about average of $70. However, when I took my dog to the vet Thursday the vet showed us how filthy her ears were and said her nails clearly hasn't been cut. So we called petco and complained and they agreed to refund our money. We spoke to the GM Frank who assured us my wife could get her refund after she was out of work on Friday. Yoon arrival my wife explained to the girl that she was there for a refund that was approved by Frank. The girl responded with oh your the one! Then told my wife things like this wouldn't happen if "you lazy military wives just did the grooming yourself. " Needles to say Petco will never get any business from my family again. read more

I took my Luci in for a bath, nail trim, and the extra doggie blow out. The ladies did and amazing job. Luci is a little skidish at first but they were supper patient and understanding. I have been to this location twice times, both times to take my Golden Retriever to be groomed. The first time I had no issues, it was short notice and the staff fit me in without issue, I was happily surprised and the work they did was to standard, so I was happy to go back. The second time, I scheduled the grooming about five days out, when I showed up they had failed to schedule me and so I didn't have an appointment and had made the drive no for nothing since they had no availability for that day. The grooming staff was unlike the first time, unwilling to help and dismissive. I was upset and desired to go else where, which I informed the staff about, as I was about to leave I saw the grooming staff point at me and my dog and laugh, I called the management, spoke to the Assistant Manager who was extremely disrespectful and dismissive about the whole situation. She literally said, what would you like me to do about it?, you can cal the manager tomorrow when hes in. I was surprised, furious and will never step foot in that location, I have three dogs, all of my friends have at least two dogs, they were not surprised and have had similar experiences at the location. I will never be back to that Petco. It was disappointing to deal with people of such poor caliber. read more

Ok so the only reason I come here is for saltwater fish or frags. But the people who work in that department are less knowledgeable about the hobby and ive ran in to a few issues because of it. Labels have been wrong claiming an item wasnt what it is and the employee claimed she had to sell it for what it was marked as. I said so if a snail came in labeled as a fish you would sell it as that. Her reply was yes. So the item i wanted to purchase was marked way up in price because it was labeled wrong. So someone just starting the hobby may be getting screwed out of money and i think thats a scam and wrong. Shame on you petco if these are your policies. I have been bringing my baby here ever since she had her last set of shots. She's been here for the puppy training classes and for grooming a million times! Just took her today for grooming. They always get me in the same day. I tell them exactly what I want them to do and it's always done. I always check her when they hand her over to me before I leave because one time they missed one nail. Which they happily fixed. My baby loves them and is always happy when I get her back! Not to mention she always smells good! I wouldn't take her anywhere else to get groomed especially since I never pay more then 50$. :) read more

A few of the people at this location are nice, but on the whole, I've never enjoyed being there. Last week was the final straw for me. I have pet rats. I went to this location to get a couple of new pet rats. I wanted to get them at Pecto to save them from being fed to snakes. The lady who helped me seemed nice....at first. It turned out she bred show rats. That's fine, I couldn't care less about that. It's what she told me she did to one of her best pet rats she'd had for 2 1/2 years. She told me he was one of the sweetest rats she'd ever had. In 2 1/2 years, he never tried to bite her. One day, out of the blue, he bit her. Did she bother to see if he was injured? No. Did she bother to find out if he was sick? No. Instead of looking into a possible health issue, she told me she gave him to a friend to feed their snake. What kind of person, working in a pet store of all places, one that sells products specifically intended for pet rats, would tell a CUSTOMER that she fed her pet to a snake instead of finding out if something was wrong with it??? ESPECIALLY a customer who just told her how much she loves her pet rats?? Whether or not you like having rats as pets, this kind of moronic thinking is completely contradictory to the image PetCo is promoting. What she did is heartbreaking and disturbing. She should not be allowed to have pets and she MOST CERTAINLY SHOULD NOT BE WORKING AT A PET STORE. read more

They have a million products, and the usual less than helpful and not overly knowledgeable staff you find at places like this...you know it's like going to Lowes or Home Depot, very few of the staff really know or care about the products they sell. I started up a 60 gallon fishtank again after having it in storage. I decided to use Petco for my aquarium needs. I had living fish in the tank and things were looking good. I purchased 3 clown loaches and 2 died promptly after put into my tank. I had noticed that they looked stressed when I bought them, but being a huge fan of loaches , I got them anyway. When I took the one survivor back, this Petco said even though none of my other fish had died, they would not honor the 30 day guarantee. I have not and will not be back. Really bad business choice and horrendous customer service. They stole $20 from me and because of their poor support I have spent hundreds of dollars since with Amazon and PetSmart. They're a little expensive but the customer service is great and they have good selection. I went in specifically for a cat bungalow and the employee in that section spent a good 10 minutes talking to me about different options. As it turns out if my cats didn't like the bungalow I could return it still assembled! How great is that? Also there's a discount if you get the pals card, which makes a big difference when getting more expensive things if it has a discounted price. I saved about $20. At checkout I was offered help to my vehicle as well. I declined it but it was really nice that they asked. read more

I've recently started shopping here after not so happy experiences from other pet shops in town. Their goods are typically overpriced but they always have great deals going on! I love the variety of organic and holistic foods they carry. They also have the cutest snack bar by the register where you can get holistic baked cookies and snacks for your dogs, weighed by the pound. The staff is nice and let's you shop without harassment. Haven't used their grooming services, as I used to groom professionally and do my own work on my pets at home, but judging from the window view, they seem to do a good job. I was here to get a few things for my dogs and when I was over by the freezer I ended up slipping and falling. I am giving my ratings based on a few things. They are getting the 3 stars because they seem to be very understaffed, after falling and even while shopping I couldn't find any employees to help me. Also I am giving low stars because of the fact that I did slip and fall and it could have been prevented if they would have more employees to clean and keep an eye on things.
