DONT USE GROOMERS!! I have never taken my girl to a groomer but since I always use them for dog food I naively thought "what's the harm? She only needs a bath and her anal glands done" I was so wrong to bring her there! An hour and a half later I pick her up and shes bleeding on her nail and paw. I wasn't super upset because I know accidents happen. It was my fault for being naive and taking her to that place instead of a small nice groomer. I will never take my girl back there. Take it from me, if you love your dogs then take them to a local groomer where they will be cared for nicely instead of treated like shit. read more

I took my dog to the vetco services. while they were taking her blood it was clear the vet was nervous and she kept sticking my dog and moving the needle without getting any blood. after moving her around and trying different paws my puppy was left hyperventilating and SHAKING. omg im pissed!!!took my mini golden doodle in for a hair cut and bath on march 12th at the petco in henrietta ny ..first off the hair cut was not professional at all so i didn't leave a tip!! when we returned home after a day or 2 i noticed i had been bitten several times in the back of my leg (my puppy sleeps with me and she likes to get under the cover!! i shes never had fleas i would have noticed i know dm well my baby didn't just catch fleas from. the petshop !!omg..and yea she caught flease from the nastey shop. i immediately took care of the problem then i notice she had a medium size bump on her head..as i looked closer it was a clot of blood..im pissed do not take ur pets there please !! the groomers name was chelsea!!!do not let her near your pet read more

STAY AWAY FROM GROOMING AT THIS STORE. Want to preface this with the following - I rarely write negative reviews, but if reading this prevents even one person from bringing their dog here and having this happen to them, that's worth it to me. I have a five year old rescue dog. Before coming to this location, I used the Monroe Ave store and never had an issue. Cannot recommend that location enough. My dog loves the groomer there, and she has been able to do a nail trim and buffing each time without any problems. Hylan Drive is a different story. I brought my dog to this location ~1-1.5 months ago for the same services I always get (nail trim and buffing) because (my own fault) I waited too long to make an appointment and this is the only location that had availability that worked for me at the time. I always leave my dog with the groomer, go do a bit of shopping, and then return about fifteen minutes later to pick up my dog. When I went back to pick him up, I was informed by the groomer that my dog was trying to bite him the whole time and was very aggressive. At the time, It was not made clear to me that the service wasn't completed, although that was evident once I got home and noticed my dogs nails were jagged, cut at all different angles and lengths. I chalked it up to a bad day for my dog, maybe he just didn't like that groomer, and didn't think anything more of it. Today, I brought my dog back to our original groomer at Monroe Ave and he won't even let her get near his feet. They were not able to complete the service at all. I was told he was so angry, aggressive in his attempts to get away, that he is no longer welcome at Pet Co. That is completely understandable and I have no interest in further traumatizing my dog or in any of the groomers being hurt. In a brief exchange before leaving, it was made very clear to me that I am not the only person who has had issues with the grooming staff at the Hylan Drive location. Obviously, I cannot report exactly what occurred during the session at Hylan Drive as owners don't generally stay in the grooming area to watch, but obviously whatever did occur has impacted my dog in such a way that he is now terrified of anyone at all trimming his nails, even someone he was previously very comfortable with. I have now paid for multiple services which were not actually completed either time, and have a dog that is so traumatized by the groomer that I am unable to safely get anyone to clip his nails. This will take a lot of work to retrain my dog, and was likely avoidable. Long story short - I would strongly recommend you to avoid the Hylan Drive groomers at all costs. This was a terrible experience basically on all fronts. read more

Adult dog training program = WORTH IT!!! (Hylan Dr store only) When I was researching Training programs for my newly adopted 80lb stray pit mix now named Bandit, I thought Petco's prices were good, but there were zero reviews. I ended up taking a leap of faith and purchased the Complete Package for Adult Dog training. That package was $350 and covered 3 6-week classes (18 hours of class time) - basic level 1, intermediate level 2, 1 private lesson, and I chose CGC+test for my third class. Usually each class is $99 and the CGC test is extra, so it was a pretty good deal. I also looked at Petsmart for training, their prices are similar, but they do not offer CGC training. Petco had very flexible scheduling if I had to miss a class and I only had 1 other dog in my class for 1 of the levels, the others ended up being private lessons. They use a small area at the front of the store for training in the beginning, but once they get into loose-leash walking you walk around the isles for practice. I thought I wouldn't like that they didn't have a specific/private training room, but the unpredictable distractions in a store environment are invaluable in training. I should add that I wish they put leash training earlier in the classes, Bandit was a HUGE puller and waiting until the end of level 1 to start leash training was agony on my arms. They did recommend a better harness style early on (attaches in front of his chest) and that helped A LOT, but it wasn't a permanent fix. Level 1 covered basic commands and attention training like sit, stay, down, watch me, leave it, wait, and leash training. Bandit only knew sit and lay down at the time so it was a good refresher to start from the beginning, plus it was good for him to get used to the trainer and work on communication with me. Level 2 focuses mainly on loose-leash walking, heel, and strengthening the basic commands into longer duration with distractions. This class was almost entirely in the store and really got into obedience in any situation. I have not completed the CGC class yet, but I'm sure it will go really well. I highly recommend Petco for your adult dog training needs. Petco really sets you up for success when you do your homework and come to class. read more

Amanda is amazing! I have two rescue pups who can get very nervous with grooming. She treated them so gently and even worked with my little Ollie to get him used to the nail buffer - a task I thought was impossible. They went from being very scared of grooming with their tails tucked under the entire time to now entering and leaving the grooming salon with their tails wagging. Thank you Amanda! The Petco groomer did an outstanding job of trimming our dog's nails. She put my dog at ease and quickly got the job done.

I won't be returning to this location ever again. The store and the grooming salon are filthy, not one employee greeted us or our dog in the store, and they don't have the range of quality products their competitors offer. My fiance and I brought our dog to get her nails clipped, and we warned the groomer that her quicks were longer in the front than than the back. She didn't listen to us at all hastily starting cutting her nails, cutting two quicks on one of her front paws. She really knicked it good, because 30 min. later it's still bleeding. We held our dog while she was bleeding, and got blood all over our arms and shirts (and all over the backseat of our car). The groomer didn't apologize or offer us anything to clean ourselves up with. Thankfully my dog was calm throughout the whole ordeal, because my fiance and I are fuming mad. Please consider taking your dog elsewhere for grooming. read more

This is one of the best Petco stores in the area. In my personal experience I have found the employees in Petco stores to be friendlier and more knowledgeable about the animals than those employees of other pet stores. The animals also appear to be in better health than those of other stores. I do not tend to buy animals in pet shops because I prefer to adopt them from shelters or other people. However, I did purchase both of my rats from this location and they have been in very good health for the entire time I have had them (over a year). This location always has the Ferret and Rat supplies that I use and has a pretty good assortment of products for large dogs. read more

I have been a customer for over five years. The groomer I used recently left. I had a schedule appointment for 2:30. She said she needed about four hours because there was still one dog ahead of me. Why am I making appointment? I have to work. This is poor customer service. Never in all of my years there have we been treated like this. NEVER again. Came here with my grandson to find ferret supplies. Cashier could stand to stay off her phone. Wanted to look into grooming - but the salon looked filthy and the groomer did not seem to want to help answer some questions. Customer service is key - let's work on that, thanks. You could do with a good dusting in your store too - grandson picked out two toys one was coated in a thick layer of dust. read more

So let me start by saying we love our dogs. They are my fur children. They have an excellent Vet, eat better than most humans, and get top notch care. I would rather get hurt myself than to let them be hurt. I think you get it. My spouse and I sometimes travel for work, and our schedules get crazy. My dogs are licensed, but their rabies will come up soon, and we might not be able to get them to the Vets before it lapsed. I was convinced to take them to Petco clinic for one RABIES shot. NEVER AGAIN. Opened at 10, waiting in line to 11:30 for the first dog in front of us to be seen. When we get up there a sales rep, spends ten minutes doubting the care of our animals, critiquing, and trying to force an UPSALE on us. She stated our dogs did not need a rabies shot and we were a month or so early. We explained we had to get this shot done now. She very FORCEFUL and quite rude. At one point she tried to write an unnecessary exam item, when we clearly let her know why we were there, and that we had a great Vet. When we refused everything she wanted to sell us, she wrote down on the list my dog was coughing. I said she pulls on the leash and it irritates her throat, my dog is not use to having a leash as we have a HUGE fenced yard. She replied to me that the Vet would decide and she probably won't vaccinate my sick dog. She then concludes that she is EDUCATING us about proper dog care, and possible outcomes. We see the Vet, who examines my dogs. I get the dogs the shot and leave. NEVER AGAIN... go to your VET make the time, lesson learned. I would never go back there. Unless you want a long wait and unnecessary pressured sales, and conflict. read more

I was very disappointed in the quality of service at this Petco. I scheduled an appointment, but when I brought my dog in, the groomer had not shown up to work that day, nobody called to cancel, and no one apologized for the inconvenience. I was very frustrated with how Petco treated me. I had a much better experience at a different local pet store. read more

Overall not a bad Petco, but I come here for saltwater fish supplies. A lot of the time they are out of the things I need and I think their tanks could be maintained a bit better. I've seen Aptasia in the tanks on more than one occasion and the health of the fish seems to vary. But they seem to be pretty decent in other pet supply areas and the staff is helpful. read more

This specific location is really bad. Like another review noted, this store is filthy. The employees and manager (the short red head boy) are very rude to me, my husband, and our dogs. He always laughs in our face and at us when we are in the store. I recently went in to buy treats for my dogs and I was treated RUDELY by him and a larger, brunette female employee. I asked her to repeat herself because I am hard of hearing and she gave me the most annoyed look, rolled her eyes, and basically yelled at me. I will not be returning to this location. read more
