NEVER, I repeat, NEVER go to this Petco , or Petco in general. my 10 year told husky has been going to this location for the past 3 years that we've been on island. he has had weakness in his back legs that makes him unable to jump around, like he used to. it has never been a problem until today, apparently. after trying to make an appointment the associate on the phone relayed to their manager that my dog had "lameness" in his back legs. The manager then decided to "refer out" my dog due to them not having an emergency vet on site, according to their policy that they have had since Petco grooming became a thing. Although I understand the safety concern, my dog's health has not changed in the past three years We have been making him monthly appointments. now all of a sudden, every manager and service worker in that Petco is concerned? So you're telling me for the past three years all your groomers have been out of policy? If this was missed for three years in a row , What else have your groomers done that has been outside of policy? I'm not only hurt because my dog is older & picky with his service people and never gave the groomers any trouble, but I'm also worried for the other animals out there that visit this location because who knows what else these people are sweeping under the rug or cherry picking what becomes in and out of policy. at my dogs elderly age, I just want him to be comfortable and serviced correctly. Petco was asking for a letter from the vet to say that he has no underlying conditions that would affect the service of trimming, his nails. A letter from a veterinarian ? To tell a groomer that an old dog's legs are weak, and he can't jump up on a table ? A letter from a veterinarian ????????????????????? comfortability at an elderly age. that's all I want. This Petco location made it seem like that was way too much to ask for, even though I have evidence of three years worth of grooming confirmation text messages. I hate that you blamed my dog for being old and aged. I hate that in his old age you're making him meet new groomers and learn a new routine. And I hate that the evidence of his age no longer made him a candidate to be comfortable in your establishment anymore. me and my family will never step foot in another Petco on this island or off this island again. Heads up for people going to grooming before hours. There's a sign on the right to call grooming to let them know you're outside. Manager SHERRY came to the door to point it out and walk away after I saw my groomer at the door of grooming watching Sherry walk away. My call rings twice just for her to come out to unlock the door. No one answered. What was the point because I mentioned it just for her to say "you literally just called" but I was relaying what I was implying on what I was told to do for my call to be missed. I get it, manager busy gossiping about the green turtle/frog right at the door front entrance with the other clerk 2 min after.... I recorded my experience this time. We took our rescue dog to Petco for a professional bath and decided to book with Stacy after reading so many great reviews, and we're so glad we did! :) When we arrived, there was about a 10-minute wait to check in since they only allow one dog in the room at a time, which I actually appreciated for safety and comfort. Once we met Stacy, she was incredibly friendly and kind. My dog can get nervous and anxious around new people, but Stacy was so gentle and patient that my dog relaxed pretty quickly. Stacy let us know it would take a couple of hours and promised to text when she was done. It ended up taking about an hour and 45 minutes. When we picked her up, our dog looked adorable with a little Halloween bandana and was wagging her tail, clearly happy and comfortable. Stacy also kept us updated on how she was doing throughout the appointment, which made the whole experience stress-free. The service was about $80 and included a bath, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and paw balm. Definitely worth it for the quality and care we received. Highly recommend Stacy if your dog tends to be anxious or shy. She really knows how to make dogs feel safe and loved. read more

People always ask me where Finn gets groomed, I've even had someone tell me that he "looks expensive" after a fresh cut. I always tell them about hesitation to go to Kim at the South Beretania Petco. We've been coming here for about a year and a half now and Kim has always been so great with Finnegan. Since Finn is my first dog, I didn't understand how grooming works very well and Kim helped me understand how to communicate with my groomer to make sure I got exactly the cut I wanted for my dog. She's also helped me be a better doodle parent by explaining the best way to brush him to prevent mats. Highly recommend Kim if you're looking for a great groomer for your dood. 2/14/26 Very bad attitude and customer service at the door from the manager Jonathon and another female employee. Doors open at 9am. My pet had a appt at 8:45, both employees gave me a hard time about it, as their were other customers in the store waiting for their pets to get done with grooming services and the customers outside the store with no pets waiting for the store to open. Do NOT buy guppy's from petco right now! Bought a couple fish a day ago and one died immediately upon arriving home and the other is in a late stage of infection. The female guppy's at petco are currently experiencing a fungal infection- VERY CONTAGIOUS AND DEADLY (will wipe out your whole tank if not treated!) I let the attendant know in petco but she kinda brushed it off, hopefully they take it seriously. In my opinion they need to stop selling these fish and treat them before making any more sales. read more

I come to this store pretty often for my cats needs, but came in today to do a return for 2 separate online orders. The return itself was alittle complicated, however, the guy who helped me, whos name is "BROOK" was AWESOME! Long story short, He took the extra time needed to make sure the return was done correctly,he was also patient and didn't make me feel like I was a bother. Had a crazy experience at Petco with an online pickup. My wife placed an order, and we stopped by the store to see if it was ready. While we were there, another customer was already being yelled at by a cashier over her order. We stood by the pickup area and saw an employee carrying what looked like our order. My wife asked about it, and the employee rudely said if she hadn't gotten the confirmation email, the order wasn't ready. She explained we were just checking, but he got an attitude and told us we shouldn't be there until we got the email. My wife walked away, and I asked to speak to the manager. He claimed he was the manager, so I said I'd file a complaint with corporate. He gave me his name and the number for corporate, then said the order was ready but hadn't updated in the system yet. I asked for curbside pickup since it was two heavy bags of dog food, but he refused. I went to open my trunk and came back in. When I asked another employee if that guy was really the manager, she started yelling at me to leave the store. I grabbed the two 40 lb bags of dog food while three employees rushed over, yelling that I couldn't take them. I ignored them, picked up the bags, and walked out while they kept shouting. PRO TIP: if you download the Petco app, you will find the prices on there about 40% to 60% lower than the Hawaii retail price. Save those items on the app, when you physically check out at the store tell the cashier " I have a price match from the app" and they will adjust the price from the expensive Hawaii retail price down to whatever the app shows. I come here for most supplies for my fish tank. Although they have everything I need they often don't have it in the size that I want. I think they lack the larger size on purpose, so that you come more often and spend more money on a smaller portion of fish food. I'm usually able to keep up with my doggos maintenance but due to unforeseen circumstances I needed some help and booked an appointment. Upon arrival I was yelled at from a worker in back room "we don't do walk-ins". I said I had an appointment and was rudely asked my name and if I really did have an appointment, the response; an eye roll and an expression of "ah crap another one is here" followed by him screaming to a coworker to come out. The individual that came out was nice at first but to say I felt judged and shamed as I left the establishment is an understatement... "Feel the matting it's close to the skin, don't you know how bad it is?!!" I responded calmly stating that I understand and that I don't have the tools to do what I needed properly and needed help hence the APPOINTMENT. She does this SEVERAL times until another worker came out. This new individual was understanding of my circumstances and calmed the first person down and did a decent job explaining what they would have to do which but by this time already put a sour taste in my mouth. I guess it depends on who grooms your four legged companion. Some are open minded and willing to help while others just want an easy low maintenance quality pet to work on. I guess It's a good time to mention the same person who yelled at me from behind glass also yelled to someone to bring a bandaid... so perhaps it's a good thing I left. Do yourself a favor, unless you can get a good recommendation on a specific groomer go elsewhere. Save yourself the judgement and frustration. I didn't get much help at the Pearl City Petco, so now I'm back in town and needed to set up my tank for the betta. I'm now at the Beretania location. The associates at this location weren't much better. A guy did briefly stop by and asked if I needed any help. He was the manager as I later found out. I picked up two decorations for the tank. One was a Japanese lantern and the other was a live plant. I took it to the cashier to pay for the items. The cashier was clueless and didn't seem to want to be there. The lantern was the last one and didn't have a scan code on it. He tells me there's no code for him to scan. I'm fully aware of that and told him it was the last one and I still wanted to get it. He tells me that he needs to call the manager. While we're waiting for the manager to come over, I'm asking about the live plant for the aquarium. I ask him how long that plant will last. He tells me he has no idea. The manager comes over and goes to find a code. The Japanese lantern comes in different sizes. The manager gave him the code for the large. However, the one that I purchased was a medium. I didn't know that until I got home and checked their website. They overcharged me $5 for the large. I wasn't about to go ask for the money back, especially since the cashier printed me a wrinkled receipt that you couldn't even read anything on it. I guess the printer jammed and he just gave me whatever receipt came out. I wish these people would get it together. read more

This review is for Angel and I really hope you're gonna read this. I had came here to look for probiotic for my cat since he's been having diarrhea for a few days. I didn't want to buy a whole pack and just a little until it goes away. She had told me that she will take me to look at other options. Ok great. Another worker came and interrupted and told her to help a different customer. But I assume she'll take me to where I needed to go before helping the other customer. Sherry was rude to my family and I. We went in to buy an automatic cat litter box and she was very sassy and unpleasant. We let her know the price of the litter box was incorrect as it was $300 more in store than it was online. She didn't believe us at first. We ended up having her price match to the online price which she was not happy about. She never apologized for her error, she instead rolled her eyes . We also kindly let her know that the bathroom was out of toilet paper and she responded "well I wouldn't know because I don't go in there". She also snapped at her coworker next to her when she accidentally knocked over a display. I felt bad for the coworker. This Petco location is located on Beretania Street, so it's very convenient. We typically stop in to get treats for our dog, or to look for fish. Today's adventure was to look for a new betta fish. They used to have a much larger selection, but somewhat diminished which I was told is due to distribution issues. My son found a blue Betta that he named Bob. They also had a new animal for sale that I had not seen previously which was a naked guinea pig! There's plenty of free parking out front, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. We went on a Sunday so it was quite busy with several customers there with their dogs in tow. My son likes to make comments about all the dogs! The cool thing about Petco, is it it also has an area in which they have cats for adoption available that is an out reach program through the Hawaiian humane Society. read more

This one instance, groomer forgot, but I noticed a male Petco worker sitting in the office behind the counter. I asked him for assistance, and he just basically blew up, stomped his feet, complaining about groomers not calling, blah, blah, blah. So I told him if you don't want to do this, I'll wait for someone else. He mumbled/grumbled and cashed me out. Whew. Sorry dude. I'd figure I would just pay the balance of $7. When I went to the cash register. I DIDN'T APPRECIATE the non transparency of what the manager did. Without even telling me he only applied 1 coupon per each item. So instead of using all the coupons. I only was able to use 2 of them. Got a discount of $1 on one item and got one item Free, but the coupon was for $25.99, so I forfeited the balance! If I was told at the time what was going on, I would have gotten the more expensive bulk food and not have even gotten the second dog food. This Petco location is where the old Safeway store used to be. There is lots of free parking with handicap stalls being upfront by the entrance which is nice for those who need it. Walking into Petco, you can easily become overwhelmed as it's really big and there are so many brands of food and accessories to choose from. A little tour of this place... When you walk in through the front doors, you will find the grooming department on your left. They have a small adoption space where you can find cute kittens and cats waiting for their fur-ever home. Next will be the fish department followed by small animals and supplies. On the right side of the isle opposite the fish and small animals will be the accessories like collars, toys, outfits, etc. When you get to the rear of the store you will find dog and cat food. Coming back towards the front or on the righthand side walking through the front door you will find cat accessories such toys, cat scratching posts, etc. and then you will see the cashiers at the very front of the store. One thing I noticed is that the workers in the fish department isn't the most knowledgeable or very friendly. One time I was there and overheard two workers talking about going on break at the same time. I was still looking to see what fish I wanted to get so I didn't think too much about it until I knew what I wanted and there were like three of us waiting for assistance. I had to go to the front and ask if someone could come and help us until someone actually came. Besides the lacking fish department we found that most of the staff in the dog and cat department is knowledgeable with the products as a good handful of them have pets of their own like this guy (I'm so sorry but I forgot his name) but he was stocking the cat food and was giving me the run down on the brands and what grain free among other things was and why they were good food. I have come to find out that the food we were feeding our cat was compared to McDonalds versus the one we feed him now is like Wholefoods. But hey who doesn't like to get a shake and fries from McDonalds every now and then right? So we have changed his diet and through trial and error we now know which ones he likes and which ones he snubs his noes to. Yes, he is finicky like a cat. Pro Tips: 1) Sign up for their rewards program as you can earn store credit rewards. Members will earn 1 Point for every dollar spent on merchandise at any Petco and Unleashed by Petco retail store, and/or at petco.com. I want to like this Petco because prior to this COVID-19 pandemic the customer service was great people that worked there smiled and the store itself had a good vibe to it. Since COVID-19 all of that has gone away and it is complete opposite. Want I find a bit odd is having the indication stand here circle so close to the door, when someone walking out of the door will be face to face with the person waiting. Even to have it so close to the door is a bit dangerous, well unsafe. On my visit a witness a innocent lady get yelled at by a customer for being so close to the door while she was coming out to the grooming area. The Petco employee had every opportunity to address the issue or just to check in to see if everything was ok. It's not like they were physically fighting, but it was obvious one lady was mad about the other women standing at the circle in front the door. I took my dog to get groomed here and they ended up cutting my dogs paws and anal area. I had booked a bath and grooming with shaving around those area, he's had it done in OTHER places and was fine. We had to put him in a cone for about 3 months and he kept trying to bite at his legs and anal area while growling and whimper. The manager said he would call us and never did I had to call him and he did nothing to better the situation. But say "it should get better in a few weeks" I don't feel safe bringing him into this groomers location. This happened in December so our holiday was ruined. We have always used petco for our dog grooming needs no matter where we have lived from Hawaii to Boston and back again after living in a few states. Based on the reviews, I was worried about taking my dogs there. I have two small Yorkies. I called for an appointment for grinding their nails and left a message. They promptly called me back the next day and we booked the appointment the same day. The grommer was just fantastic we the dogs, (kind and caring) and did a great job. The whole experience was just like we have had with petco for over 25 years. What is so great, is that your dog information is in a national database so your dogs history is on file for them to see. Stepped in on 10/11/24 to see if my mobile order was ready after I have placed it on 10/10/24 - currently still in process on the app. During my lunch break I drove to Petco to see if it's ready and if the system didn't update as it is being 24 hours. Typically I go to Long Hawaii Kai and within couple hours it's ready. I walked in, stood on the checkout line to ask for my mobile order. About 5 minutes later it was my turn. Before I even walked to the representative to show my phone order he immediately responded by saying that the mobile order line is on the next aisle. I told him that there was no one there. He responded by saying, "well, someone will be there." And he just proceed. After I moved to the empty aisle next to the check out line, more than half the people standing in line followed. Couple minutes passed and a gentleman name Pat came and said, "what you want?" I told him my situation and he looked through his mobile phone to see about my order. He then said, "I don't see it here. You need to call customer service at 800." I asked him if there was a reason why.? He just kept saying call 800. I then asked him if I can just get my orders here and I can deal with my mobile order later. He practically just stood there and said, "call the 800 number. I have no time to help you. We're doing inventory right now." He then walked me over to the register closest to the exit door and gave me a piece of paper with the number to call (it's not even 800, it's 877) and said, "if you want to complain call this number. Rolled his eyes and walked away. (I was taken a back on how rude he was. He didn't care about customer service. He didn't even try to help.) When I was about to leave a staff member name Robin spoke to me. She apologize in their behalf about what had happened. She said she was listening to the whole situation and knows for a fact that he was really rude about how he handled the situation. She said that she was on lunch break but would gladly help me find what I needed. She said, "trust me, I wouldn't mind helping you right now even on my lunch break. It'll only take a couple minutes. Pat is our general manager here and he should have at least help you out and not put this "inventory day" a big deal. I mean we do inventory on Sundays. I don't know why he chose that before customers." I thanked her for being so helpful and concern to my situation but declined the offer since I didn't want to take her lunch break. I took my dog to have her nail trimmed with a walk in. They made me wait for about 25 minutes before they let me know that they can't take her. Why couldn't they let me know in the first place ??? Even before, I took my dog in and while she was having her nails done I had to go to the bathroom and when I came back, I was yelled at by a guy there that I shouldn't have left ! There is NONE customer service whatsoever. Very rude and they suck !!! read more
