I like this location. I've been going here for at least 5 years and every experience was good. Products stay in stock and customer service is top notch. I tend to go here instead of Petsmart in Copperfield because it's next to Target. There's always parking in front of the store and I have never experienced a crowd inside. The store stays clean inside and is fairly quiet overall. I am usually in and out in under five minutes. I also really love that once you sign up for their membership you automatically get five dollar coupons every time you spend $100. I buy $35 bags of food and treats every 3 months so it adds up. I might start coming here more often. Since Covid: They have sanitizer available upon entry and markers to maintain distance on the checkout line (I've never been in a line) They have a cool online order pickup system. They use coded lockers with minimal interaction. read more

Do not take your animal here, if you plan on getting grooming services. I took my dog here and she end up getting fleas . And they did not clean her glands.) before "Elizabeth" did her grooming services, I ask Elizabeth not to forget to do her glands. And she said "oh no worries!" " it's a part of the package services." "And I was like great.!!" And then the week goes by , my dog started having severe symptoms.. her skin was red and irritated. She had hot little spots all over her body. Top of that she had fleas... and then her glands was red and irritated. I had to take her to the vet. To find out all the symptoms.. which is pretty ridiculous, because when my dog went in, for her grooming services she was perfectly fine. In a week goes by and she has all these issues. I called Petco upon the situation, and some guy picked up and said that his manager is not here, but that she should come in by 1 PM.. and that I could stop by around that time. I swing by there to resolve the matter. In a polite manner. Because I find it very unnecessary that the people who have issues throw tantrums..) and I'm not that type of person. More of the story.. the guy end up telling me that his manager is not there.. and that he'll hold onto my dogs vet bill and he took down my name and number and said that they'll give me a call.. a couple days go by and I haven't heard nothing. So I gave them a call to check up on the status of the situation. I spoke to the Petco Manager ?... upon the situation... and she said she just got back from a vacation... and that she doesn't know anything about the situation.. I enlighten her upon the situation. And she told me that I have to get some type of paper from the vet that says that it was Petco grooming services fault for my dogs symptoms.. like what a joke.. I literally had to drive 30mins to my dogs clinic, just to get a piece of paper .. a piece of paper that states the obvious of the situation.. that same piece of paper that I gave the guy in the beginning.. but with a statements.. from my dogs nurse. After that, I drove all the way to Petco to resolve the matter and this young boy, said, sweet! I'll put it with the other one... like are you kidding me?.. I came there to resolve the matter. I had to go back-and-forth. They are so an organized and unprofessional . They're making me go back-and-forth upon this matter... At this point, I just called my bank upon the situation because I do not have time for this nonsense .. Obviously, they need to hire other people to run the store because the people that are there, are lazy and naïve. read more

Another locations without everything I need! Petco you are really dropping the ball. This is my second Petco visit for today. The first one did not have anything I needed. This location was out of the large bag of pull pockets as well. So I had to buy the small bag.(60 for $19.99) Not please with this because the at $12.99 for 30. I saw only 2 people working this huge store. 1 was the cashier and the other was helping customers find stuff. (They recently moved everything) I had to get in line to just ask where something was then get back in line to make my purchase. The line was long the whole time I was there and the cashier seemed overwhelmed. She even forgot to put a something a customer purchased in their bag before they left. I mentioned to the cashier about their pricing but she was not pleasant. She asked me if I have any proof (which I understood) but I was just there few minutes prior to checking Petco place out. Well now I see why this place doesn't have very good reviews. Today was my second time coming to this location. The first time I came, I didn't have a good experience but it wasn't anything I felt the need to yelp about. Basically, I went there to get a muzzle for my dog. While looking around this dark, disorganized, chaotic, dingy place I had to squeeze through some aisles because they had these huge bags of dog food piled up on each other blocking aisles. And no, they were not doing inventory. That was how they displayed the stuff. The place is too small for all their over priced goods they try to cram in there. Which leads to my second complaint on the first visit. So they carried the muzzle I was looking for and it was 34.99. The exact same one was on Amazon for 14.99. That's a $20 difference!!! And no, the one on Amazon was not on sale. It was regular priced. Oh well no big deal. So since then I went to the location on westheimer and got a few things. No complaints there. I just happened to be in that area so I stopped in. But I live close to this Hwy 6 location. Anyway, I bought 2 items that were a bit too small for my dog so today I went to the location over here by my house on Hwy 6 to return them. I had the receipt and paid cash for them. This time I decided to bring my small/medium sized dog who I usually put in the shopping cart at petsmart (WAY better place btw). But they only had these tiny little shopping carts. How is anybody supposed to fit any items in their cart if they bring a dog? Weird I thought. Fortunately though, I was only there to grab some prescription dog food and to return these two items that came out to less than $40. So first I find out they don't carry prescription dog food. Still...no big deal. But finally, I had enough. I get told that I can't return the 2 items I had a receipt for simply because I bought them at the westheimer location. They said I'd have to take them over there to do the return. Who does that? At petsmart, you don't even NEED a receipt to return an item for store credit! But this place wouldn't take my return WITH a receipt because the items were bought at a different location. Ridiculous. This is a chain store. The guy that told me this was a young guy named Chris. This review is for the grooming salon, horrible service! I scheduled an appt online for 12 pm, miraculously, the appt switched itself from 12 to 12:30 without my approval. I call many times, they don't answer. I finally leave a voicemail and get a text that they would switch it back. I get to the salon on the appt and it doesn't matter that I had a 12 pm appt because no one comes forward to assist until 12:20. I then get told that they can't do the appt because my newly adopted dog has heart worms and is undergoing treatment even though the Spring Cypress location has done it before. For the love of dog, do not bring your pet here for grooming services. Trimmed my dogs nail on 9/12 and clipped her too close so she was bleeding profusely. Even better - they were aware of this and tried to hide the problem by starching the bleeding paw. And they didn't tell us. I had to go home and notice the bleeding and the staff were pretty useless in providing a resolution when contacted. The store is clean but sometimes carries a weird smell when you first walk in the door. I guess it is from the hamster or the look-alike-mouse animal in the front. About the food, i only shop for my cats so i cant say for dog food. Sometimes they ran out of stuff so it made me sad. I love shopping here because of their rewards program, and i find that there prices are lower than Petsmart for some food type. Also, the staff are friendly and service is great. Never, I repeat NEVER take your dog to get groomed at this location. We have gone to this petco for 6 years, but since their personnel has changed, their service has plummeted. As soon as I walked in to drop off my dog, both of the groomers there were very negative. My dogs hair was getting lengthy and she was a bit shaggy with a few knots in her fur. Right off the bat the groomer expressed that he might just have to "start all over on her". I understood and told them they could do whatever they had to to make her look good, I didn't walk out of there with too great a feeling. Upon seeing my dog when I picked her up all I could say was "What did you do to her?!" She looked terrible to say the least. Her hair was completely cut-not shaved-leaving her fur looking jagged and unfinished, he cut off most of the fur on her ear (which didn't have any knots worth cutting completely off) leaving all sorts of ends uncut and crooked. He left the fur on her paws long, basically giving up on her when she got a little feisty when he tried to clip her nails. Needless to say this was a terrible experience. They butchered my dog's fur, and didn't seem to care what she looked like in the end. I'm never going back, and I advise you all to avoid this location at all costs. read more

So this pass Tuesday I brought my dog in for their $82 grooming package for dogs over 80 lbs. Yes, I tipped them as well. While waiting for my dog to be finish with his supposedly "spa day", I went shopping at the stores around like Target, Michael's, etc. Two hours went by, I came back to check on him. I can hear my dog crying from standing at the groomers' register. The groomer sent someone out to let me know that my dog was not ready and it'll take another 1hr30min. I was fine with that. I asked them what they're doing to him back there for him to cry and howl like that, she said he's being dried off. I thought to myself, he doesn't normally react like that when he's being dry off by other groomers and at home. He likes that part of the process. So I asked to come inside to check on him, she said I can't so I left. The whole time my stomach was feeling uneasy about leaving him with them. SO...when they finally called me to pick him up, I came within the next 5-10 minutes. Upon picking him up, the groomer told me that she was not able to trim the hair around the butt because he kept sitting down. Uhmmm...hello...that was one of the main reason why I brought him to the "professionals". Secondly, she told me that I need to take my dog to someone else for the nail trim and that she couldn't do the front two paws because he would not let her. She advised me to bring him to someone that can muzzle him. Hm...he didn't need to be muzzled by other groomers. Perhaps, you need a new profession. In the end, I was charged for the full amount of $82 when they did not complete all the tasks that was on that package deal. That's alright, money can be earn again. When we got home, we were hugging him and touching all over his body to inspect of any possible pain they could have caused. When we touched the lower region of his body, he yelped and jumped. His behavior changed within that very second. He got really defensive. He was barking and looking at us and as we walked towards him, he barked even more and walked backwards. I will never know what happened behind closed doors of that grooming facility. All I know is my dog acted in a way that he has never acted before bringing him to this Petco. You've lost our business and of our friends and family. I've had issues with a worker at this location in the past as well. When I first got my puppy, about 1 year ago, I got him of the Nylabone edibles 3 packs. But I couldn't remember if it was edible or not so I got scared when he started chewing on them and swallowing them. So I came out to this Petco where I purchased it. I held up the same pack and asked one of the employee if this was edible. The employee answered quickly "no" WITHOUT EVEN looking at me or the item. He was nicely dressed with collar shirt tucked into his pant. He looked as if he was the manager or something. Anyways, this store needs lots of adjustments on their customer service. read more

Took our pug here to get groomed but only because it was near a holiday weekend and everyone else around was booked up or closed. The grooming was ok, nothing special (its a pug). Only did a so-so job on her nails. of course, finding an employee in the store was not easy. I think there was 1 register clerk who I had to search for and I found her making sales in the back of the store. The groomer was being loud with someone on the phone while I stood there for 3-4 minutes unacknowledged. My main beef with this store was a having to use my email to get notices about her grooming. I was hesitant, but I had nowhere else to go at the time. Well, after checking that I would nOT like spam, of course I get nothing but spam emails from Petco. Moved to the area recently. In a pinch came here to buy canned cat food. Got home and opened the cans to feed my hungry cats dinner. The food looked really strange. When I looked at the bottom of the can it was over a year PAST it's expiration date. Checked out all the other cans and every one was the same. How can you sell such expired food? Not only was it a waste of money, but could have been an expensive vet bill if hadn't noticed it was bad. I should have known when I walked in by how dirty the place was. A few times I've stopped in on the way home from work, and had to wait while the employees finished their conversations before they realized customers are waiting to check out. My experience has been the same as everyone else's. I was told my dog was aggressive. He has been getting groomed since I got him as a puppy and for the past two years no one has ever told me he was aggressive. They handed him to me half finished. Not even half! The hair around his legs and face looked two inches longer than the rest. If I wasn't so mad I would have laughed hysterically at my poor Barkley!! They told me I had to take him to a vet. The look of shock on my face I guess is what convinced the guy to try while we were standing there!! Thank god!!! He took off a bit more and then yes Barkley started to growl because this guy has no idea how to handle animals! He's timid and he looks like he's on drugs!! No wonder my dog was growling! The groomer said not to worry, no charge! I said what would you charge me for?? I would have refused to pay for nothing anyway! Worst experience ever! They traumatized my dog! This store carries the natural food that my dog loves at a great price. I'll shop there for that in the future. As for the grooming the price is right, but the quality of work is poor. I took my dog there on a scheduled day and was forewarned that there were 13 dogs ahead of her. Needless to say I refused to leave her that day. The next day she was there from 8 AM. until 2:30 for a bath and simple trim. I was not pleased with the cut. Her head looked nothing like I requested. I took her to another groomer to have it fixed and that is when the mats in her fur were brought to my attention. The groomer explained that a "groomed" dog should never have mats of any kind. The comb should just flow through, which it simply did not. The groomer also pointed out that she smelled bad. I returned to Petco and requested a refund, which the manager granted me. At the register, I was told that none of my items were eligible for the discount, though according to the fine print on the coupon, the items should have been. Since I was flustered and in a hurry, I just dealt with it and didn't even think about asking to speak with a manager until I got home. The next day, I went back in to see if someone could help me resolve the issue. The person who helped me was Susie M., and she was extremely kind, helpful, and generous. She went above and beyond what I'd expected the situation to call for. My kids and I were shopping in the same strip center where this Petco is around Christmas. My daughter wanted to get some treats and gifts for our dog so we went here. My first impress of the store is just plain nasty. The store was dirty and crowded. When I say it was crowded, I'm not talking people but the isles and "stuff". The store is also dirty. I'm not a neat-freak so if I notice some place is dirty...it is really dirty. The service was nonexistent and the cashier barely acknowledged our presence. It's so upsetting that I have to leave a negative comment about a place that has been good to my dogs and myself so many times before. I've always had great service. The staff has always been very sweet. Unfortunately, today I went to get my dogs' nails trimmed and the woman assisting me at the grooming section was obviously in a bad mood. From the moment I got there and asked for a trim she sighed heavily. She kept complaining over and over about the new computer system. She kept whining about not knowing how to work the computer and get all our info in. I was as polite as I could be. I know we ALL have stressful days. BUT the moment she took my dog I knew it was best to just go. She took her own leash and put it on my dog. She was choking him. Tugging on him so hard that my dogs eyes turned red and got bulgy. I tried to calm my dog and called him to come but her attitude was so repelling. She never tried calling for my dog. She didn't let him sniff her. She just put the choke collar on and tugged him and dragged him into the next room. And before she even got in the room she kept repeating " he won't let me cut his nails. I doubt he will let me" . A staff member near by noticed that DEBRA wasn't handling the situation in the best manner and went to check on her. As soon as she stepped in with Debra , Debra walked right out and said " I can't do it. He won't let me. I put him on his own leash again and she just turned away from me. I've gotten his nails trimmed there before and the other lady was so sweet. EVEN when he was nervous about getting his nails trimmed. So there is no excuse in my eyes. I love Summer, she takes such great care of Allie & Daisy, they get excited when we pull into the parking lot. All of the people in the grooming area are so nice and seem genuinely happy to see us. Summer always gives our babies a great furdo, making suggestions to help them look even cuter. Our dogs are always happy to see her and actually get excited when they see her. This petco is the worst. I haven't come to this petco since I got a hamster, but he died within 2 weeks of having him. But this incident is different. This time my niece and I came here to get a feeder mouse for my snake. I walked in to go over and see how much they were, and we waited around for maybe 5 minutes before getting someone. The man she asked for help shrugged his shoulders and rolled his head, and turned to talk to his coworker again (this man had gauges in his ears, he didn't tell me his name). I saw him walking over and I said "if you don't want to help then you don't need to work here", he said something but I rudely shut him down and said I wasn't listening. My niece had to do the rest. Once home I called and asked for his name as he was very rude and disrespectful that night. The lady sarcastically said "oh I'm so sorry that doesn't happen here. Let me get a statement and I'll send it off to corporate myself". I asked her politely if she was being sarcastic, but with the attitude again, she said "oh no, I'm not". So I just said thank you and have a blessed night, then hung up. Petsmart has always, and will always be better than Petco. read more

It truly does take a lot for someone to put pen to paper and my previous experience at this Petco fits this expression. I called on Friday (9/5/14) in order to make an appointment for my dog, Oliver (who is a miniature poodle) on Saturday (9/6/14) at 10 am. So the next morning at 9:40am, I dropped Ollie off and an employee told me that it would take a longer time today because they are "busy". This is my second time taking Ollie to this Petco location so I was familiar with the protocol. I told her that's fine and I left. At 1pm, I had not received their call, so I decided to go to Petco and shop around while waiting for him. I went to grooming services to see if he was ready or how much longer it would be when I arrived. I did not see Ollie on the grooming table as I was expecting and the groomer said it would be another 45 minutes to an hour. She also told me that he was acting weird but he was getting better as the day went by. So I shopped around until 2:45 pm when I received the call. When I entered the grooming center, the employees gave me an unsetting look. Another employee (she was tall and had a lip piercing) openly complained about Ollie being aggressive, difficult and that he even urinated on her. And that he now has urine on his leg. She even stated that he "attacked" the groomer. I was dumbfounded because my dog has never behaved that way and no one has ever described in him in such a manner. They asked me if I had ever taken him anywhere else to be groomed and how many times, as if I were being questioned and scolded by a schoolteacher. All this is happening in front of other customers and the whole staff. I was made to feel like a bad pet owner, a bad parent. I was completely and utterly uncomfortable, embarrassed, and ashamed. I was actually apologizing up and down. And I realized that I was apologizing when in actuality I was bringing my business to this store. It was unprofessional and outright rude of the staff to treat a customer that way. I was speechless. It was just plain bad business. They also did not tell me that they couldn't finish his grooming or what the situation was. So I paid the full amount with the cashier. And despite having to endure this horrific experience, I tipped his groomer and took my dog home, urine still on his leg and all. They did not even try to clean him up. On the ride home, Ollie seemed traumatized and was crying and whimpering. I was worried about his wellbeing, so when we arrived home I inspected him. I found that one of his ears was clean and the other was simply untouched. And I do not even want to get started on the condition of his nails. They were in awful condition! One of his toe nails on his hind paw was not even clipped, his clipped toes were not smooth but rough and sharp and the worst part is that some of his nails had been clipped back so far that the quick was exposed. This alarmed me most of all, being a healthcare professional, I know just how easily an infection can acquire and I could tell that he was in pain. At this point, I was beside myself. I called Ollie's dad to tell him about what had happened. He called Petco to speak to the manager because I was so upset that my voice was cracking. The manager said he would speak to the grooming staff about this incident and call back. No one apologized to us for this experience and they proceeded to justify their actions. The employees stated that they informed me that I had to take Ollie to a vet next time because of his "aggressive" behavior. This was COMPLETELY untrue, #1 being that Ollie has never ever been called aggressive, #2 being no one ever told me anything close to that. They were too busy complaining and implying how bad of a dog Ollie was to actually give me any useful information. The manager did not do anything for us and so the very next morning, we took Ollie to PetSmart to finish his grooming. PetSmart had no problems with him AT ALL. They actually told and showed us how badly his nails were damaged. I was heartbroken that I had taken my dog to an establishment that would do that to him. On top of the staff shaming me, they hurt my dog and that is unforgivable. Being a store dedicated to pets' and animals' health and wellbeing, this store did the exact opposite. I will never being coming back to this company for any of my pets needs and I will tell everyone who knows us about what happen. The employees working at this grooming center should be ashamed of themselves. Employees are in fact a reflection of their management. They are overbooking appointments and not giving enough time/attention to each individual dog. Which is why dogs are getting nervous, anxious, and "weird" in the crates while waiting to be worked on. This is both stressful for the dog and owner. Maybe the staff is too comfortable with their positions and becoming complacent. In my opinion, they definitely need further reinforcement and education on the meaning to customer service and proper etiquette. read more

Two days ago I went in just get some small supplies for my Leopard Gecko and just out of curiosity I stopped by the reptile section to see the leopard geckos that they had. I have never seen animals in such bad conditions. First there were of course way too many geckos in one terrarium even though there was a few terrariums that were completely empty. (Yes I know that corporate has a ratio of up to 16 or so per enclosure but that doesn't make it okay). Secondly, the feeder insects had no signs of vitamin or calcium dusting. For those who don't know IF YOUR LEOPARD GECKO DOES NOT RECEIVE THE PROPER CALCIUM AND CORRECT VITAMIN D3 DOSING IT WILL MOST LIKELY DEVELOP METABOLIC BONE DISEASE. 4 of the geckos were in such bad condition (very skinny tails which isn't common for these type of geckos, and weak skeletal structure) I had to ask what the deal was. In the upper right hand corner of the tank what do I find? A small sign that says "I may not be perfect but I'm the perfect companion for you. Please ask an associate for a cosmetically imperfect discount". I asked an associate why they looked like this and if they were ill. His response was "no they have all been seen by our vet and they have been taken into the back for individual feeding but the other geckos bully them out of the food" ... after this I asked to take all 4 of the geckos home so I could care for them properly. After carefully watching them each of the geckos CLEARLY show signs of METABOLIC BONE DISEASE. The tells are pretty obvious. Weak spongy bones in the jawbone, legs, spine, also twitches and tremors. I find it hard to believe that this "vet" could not come to that conclusion. I will be taking them to a vet as soon as possible. Unfortunately the geckos will most likely remain with a permanent deformity from the disease. At the moment I have gotten each of them to eat. It really is absolutely ridiculous that the company has not done the proper research on animals they are caring for and are therefore unable to train the associates properly. I have a 6 year old Alaskan Malamute named Milo and i only trust Mari to groom him. We follow her all over Houston because Petco sends her from store to store to help with training and such. Don't mind the miles because I know my boy is always in good hands with her. Malamutes have double coats and I've heard horror stories of people shaving or cutting them so I was insistent on finding a competent groomer. She's incredible. She's very patient with him, if you think your dog has personality try my 100 lb diva. There's some days he takes to his grooming appointments and sits there and acts like he's being pampered and there's other days where he refuses to let her grind his nails, either way she treats him the way she would treat her own. He doesn't like to be crated and a lot of the time it's needed so his coat can dry. He whines and cries and she'll send me a video. I've provided bones and toys so that he's occupied during the drying process, a solution we both came to and he's happy as can be! She can work on other dogs while he dries and not have to worry about him being upset in his crate. She's told me time and time again, if you're going to get your dog groomed make sure your dog can develop a relationship with their groomer. That way they feel safe and comfortable during the process. I took Milo to petsmart and the guy was so aggressive that he had to muzzle my dog. After that we never went back, and he's been going to Mari for almost 5 years now. They have a great relationship. I've seen some other nasty reviews about Petco grooming, I would take them lightly. Before anything you need to find someone you're comfortable with, a groomer you can have a conversation with. They're an important part of maintaining your dog's health and well-being. Once you find someone you can talk to, stick with them. Not only for your peace of mind, but for your dog's as well. read more
