Been taking my dogs here for some time for grooming. Always been on time for appts and picked them up right away after call they were done. My car had to go to shop today so my husband had to take them a little early for their appointments. When I picked them up this afternoon there was an additional $40.00 charge for daycare. If I had cancelled my appointment today I would have gotten a charge. This is ridiculous and we won't be going back. This location in Madison is the worst place ever to get your dog groomed if you care about them. All they do is skin them. I've explained to them. I have doodles. They looked like skeletons. This was not the first time. One appt is good. The next, someone must be practicing on them. I tip good even when it's terrible. Management, don't get on here as if you care. You do not. If you did, you'd get better groomers. I'm not the first and definitely won't be the last. YELP is not the only place people shared their experience with Madison AL location. Actually this warrants a ZERO star. I was in there the other day and watched the groomer "roughly" brushing the long haired ears of a small dog. I watched her for several minutes doing the same thing on both ears. She was busy "gabbing" to a co-worker and not paying any attention to the dog whatsoever. Based on her actions and lack of care for this animal I wouldn't take any animal there EVER! read more

The associate with blue hair decided my German Shepherd is too aggressive because he barks. Then proceeded to tell us to leave because of it, which is fine, and we were. Then she decided to cut down our dog and continued to complain about him and us even though we were leaving. She blocked my grandmother who was looking after our puppy in the shopping cart from leaving claiming she was protecting the other customer from our gsd even tho me and him had already went around another way and we heading out the door. Also talking to other customers about us. Unfortunately, this location has a karen who does not like large dogs and petco should definitely move her to a position where she will not have interactions with animals. P.s. I took my dog to be groomed. I asked for her to be shaved low but please keep the face. Preferably a teddy bear face. When I went back to pick up my dog I was told they didn't hear me say to keep her face. I decided to give them another chance and I took my dog back today to be groomed. This time I showed them a picture. The salon managers looked at it and felt my dog and said she was sure it could be done. She then took my dog to the back to let the actual groomer see her. She came back and said "oh yes. We can totally do this. We will just need to shave her tail". I said that was fine. When I went back to get my dog she was completely shaved except for her ears. I asked to speak to a manager and the salon manager said she was the manager. She Told me to get out and not come back. I wouldn't dare take my dog back there and I would not recommend them to anyone else. I would give them zero stars if I could. read more

I've had bad experiences with Petco in general, and I know about their whole thing that they throw sick or dead or non sellable animals in the garbage. But seriously if your whole goal is to sell animals to trusting people, you the supplier must be a role model!! You had sick birds under your care and instead of being the caring, animal-driven people you should be, you didn't help. You pushed back against a customer who tried to HELP!! Went in today to pick up a few things and possibly buy some fish. We walked around the store with our required masks on. Went to the fish, a pet I employee was there standing on a small ladder. We were in the area 3-4 minutes, not one did she ask if we had any questions, if she could help us, didn't even acknowledge the fact that we were there. Until my fiancée adjusted her mask and the employee immediately said "ma'am you need to have your mask over your nose". She was literally adjusting it. If we didn't want to wear them we wouldn't have came into the store. I get there's a policy, but literally not a single word to us but she wanted to be a creep and stare at us until she could say something about a mask. Who hires these people. Also, instead of getting off the ladder and moving it over she decided to pull herself up on the take and scoot the ladder over with her legs... I'm sure that's safe. If you want better service try another pet store. This place is trash. read more

You had multiple birds under your care that were clearly sick, and when someone brought it to your attention, you treated them like crap by being rude and hostile. And then when they pushed, you took the poor bird to a vet that isn't even avian certified! They had to raise money to rescue thar poor bird from your deplorable care! I have been taking my dogs for years To this store. I don't know if they changed Groomers since the pandemic but the one I had was horrible. She refused to finish my puppy just because I dissagreed with her about shaving versus grooming. He is a puppy. ShiH TZU. He needed grooming . I had to take him to my vet where the techs had no problem brushing out any knots. He was calm with them so he was not a problem to work on. read more

I purchased 2 guinea pigs in April that were supposed to be both males, however, one of them became pregnant and gave birth 2 weeks ago. 1. Asked about my groomer from another location, "Ashley" said "Oh she spent $1,700 of Petco's money and quit 3 days later. " I immediately felt uncomfortable. 2. I stated that I was asked to bring my dog to get his nails done when there are 2 people because he squirms so much. They ignored me and Samantha took him back saying we'll try it and started working. (I was following their previous instructions!) 3. A few minutes later, I said it usually takes 2 people but she is getting it done. For some reason Ashley thought she should interrupt Samantha and pick the dog up while Samantha did his nails. The dog just got more anxious and squirmy. Samantha accidentally made him bleed. 4. I asked if they could put some paw balm or something on him because he dripped blood on the print-out, on my arm, my shirt and inside his carrier. Ashley first acted like she didn't know what I was talking about then wanted to inspect the dog saying where is he bleeding as if I was making it up. Samantha put something on the paw and advised to use corn starch if it bleeds again. 5. When I got home and tried to schedule a future appointment at another location because I realized some of his nails were still long, the app said "This dog Is sensitive... You cannot schedule an appointment online. You must call..." Ashley had blocked my dog from online scheduling. 6. I returned to the store after taking the dog home to calm down to talk to the manager, Scott. He listened to what happened dismissively and offered to refund my money. I said no, Samantha tried to do a good job. I even gave her a tip but I deserve an apology from Ashley for her poor customer service. He said he didn't think so and Samantha will get paid either way, it was his store so all he was offering was a refund. Actually Scott, it's Petco's store, mangers just manage it. Not very well if a manager prefers to cover up poor behavior of employees rather than a simple apology to hold them accountable so they don't divulge people's personnel file and be obnoxious to other customers. Currently on the way to pick up my dog from grooming, I got a phone call from for pick-up at 4:52 pm and was told they called earlier (I did not receive any call from them prior to 4:52pm), and that they close at 5pm. The staff was EXTREMELY RUDE to me when I brought up my CONCERN FOR THE ANIMALS in the tanks for sale. None of the animals there are properly taken care of! Reptiles DID NOT have any form of heat/ UVB exposure in their habit. Their humidity levels were way out of range! I feel terribly sorry for any animal at PETCO. The groomers did not read his body language when he was shaking at biting at the clippers from what I am told by the groomer. Then I bring him home and find that his eye has a hemorrhage from either the neck holder or hitting it on something, a cut in his ear, and is a nervous wreck to the point of vomiting 9 times in one morning. My dog has always been a fearless, sassy, diva of a boy with a love for people and now he is laying on my couch for hours on end and has not played or barked in days. Apparently this is not uncommon which I did not know and can last for weeks. You live and you learn, but this trauma is not worth the pain of your pet as well as a vet bill to cover the damage of eye hemorrhage and stomach soothers. I am not mad at the cut itself because hair grows back, but this is obviously an experience he cannot forget and he has been groomed many times before. If your looking for a grooming and pet supply service that exhibits quality and integrity, consider an alternative establishment. After reading some of the other reviews posted here in Yelp, it appears our experience with this particular PETCO's grooming department was not an anomaly. We only regret not reading the reviews before scheduling an appointment at this establishment. Recently, my wife took our dog for a grooming appointment, however, was told by the staff that we didn't have an appointment. Certain they were mistaken, my wife provided the details of how and when she made the appointment. They then changed their position stating her husband (me) changed the appointment. Slightly amused by the story change, my wife clarified how unlikely that claim was given she is the scheduler for just about everything "household-related" in our family. Another staff member claimed to have overheard the conversation further suggesting I called to reschedule the appointment for the following Saturday, which coincidentally, we would have been out of town. Knowing their claim to be false, my wife immediately added me to the conversation over her speaker phone. As expected I confirmed that I never called nor would have called confirming her point, however, the grooming staff remained tied to their story. While we know mistakes happen, we are very understanding patrons, particularly when people acknowledge a mistake and try to solve the situation; however, in this case they stood by their claim insinuating that either my wife or I was lying. When people do that or question our integrity, we are much less understanding. After engaging the store manager, it was clear to my wife that either he didn't believe her or didn't have the management capacity to confront his staff. Given the number of other grooming related complaints for this establishment, the later seems more plausible. Either way, my wife was forced to pack up our dog and find another groomer. After hearing the full account of my wife's experience, I called the grooming staff to get their perspective of what happened and to ask if they thought they might have made a mistake. I briefly spoke with someone who said she wasn't involved in the interaction. I asked if she could get someone directly involved. I was placed on hold while she went to get someone involved. After being on hold for 60 seconds the phone system automatically redialed the department; it rang for approximately 4 minutes before disconnecting the call. Knowing they know who we are and having our phone number, they never attempted to return my call. I called and spoke to the store manager who essentially provided a third and even more inaccurate account of what occurred. Fortunately, this particular interaction with PETCO employees and management is atypical to the Madison, Huntsville, Alabama, southern hospitality that exists here in most establishments, however, we care about our pets too much to trust them to people with questionable integrity. If they won't acknowledge a simple scheduling error, I don't want to imagine how they would react to a more serious issue or incident with our pet. So, bottom line, if you love your pets and want them cared for by people of integrity, consider another grooming service. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The last time my sister took our dog there the lady with the purple hair did not cut the hair on our dog face. She claimed our dog tried to bite her. I asked if there was something she could do because the hair cut was incomplete and the dog looked crazy with her hair cut like that. I was allowed to go in the back area for me to hold our dog so she could finish her face. The lady kept calling our dog the wrong name as well. The lady did not charge us but was very rude and in hurry to leave as it was close to closing time. My sister booked our dog an appointment that was scheduled for today. When they arrived my sister was told that our dog was put on the "deferred" list and could no longer be a customer at Petco. My sister was not offered to allow another groomer to work on our dog as she was going to request prior to being told that our dog was pretty much banned from their store. This is not how business should be handle. Not only that but you could smell alcohol on the lady and she appeared to be under the influence of something. My wife made a mistake when submitting the online appointment by selecting X-large instead of Large. There is a $9.00 difference between the two sizes. We asked for the Large price, since our pet is large, not X-Large and they refused to change the price. They did not trim her nails and barely brushed her out. We bought all of our pets, we have two, food, treats, etc., averaging $215.00 a month and they just lost our business for good. Customer service is a thing of the past...sad read more

We have used PETCO for over 10+ years. I will NEVER go back because of their groomers. We had previously complained to management about Ashley a groomer and her treatment of dogs. We have two groomers we always request for our three small dogs. Today even though we were suppose to have a particular groomer, we got Ashley. Our dog weighs less then 4 pounds. She butchered her coat. Called and said Maggie was not manageable. Which is comical. We asked why she was working with our dog, she said the other groomer was busy. I requested a person for a reason. If she was not going to be available then why did I call? I now have a half groomed dog. We went to a new pet store and they tested Maggie to see her reactions. She was so agreeable. Just relocated to the area a few months ago from Maryland and I have been a loyal Petco customer with my two dogs (a Yorkie and Cocker) for years so naturally Petco was my first option here. I am from this area originally and was excited to get back to where people are more personal and friendly in the customer service arena...well NOT AT THIS PETCO! I took both dogs to get groomed before family photos. When I picked them up I had to immediately cancel the family photos. My Yorkie was buzzed to a 7 and looked like a rat! They didn't charge me for his cut but gave me a lame explanation that in the system my dogs' breeds were reversed and they gave the wrong cuts. For 7+ years they have never been crossed. Someone made a mistake here but didn't want to admit it. I realize mistakes happen so about two months later I decided to give it another shot. HUGE MISTAKE. The manager in grooming was completely disrespectful and claimed they never made the mistake with my Yorkie when SHE WAS THE ONE THAT DID IT. She kept arguing with me because when I made my appointment I just wanted a bath for Yorkie and Cut for Cocker and she had down they were both to get cuts. I explained when I called I stated exactly what I wanted. When I walked in though, she never greeted me and when she finally did she said "what do you need?" That set the tone and eventually she walked to the back since I wasn't backing down from her BS and she sent someone else up. I made It clear that I did not want that woman touching my dogs and that I would NOT be back to this location. Two weeks ago I took the Yorkie to the Huntsville (72) location and it was THE BEST PETCO EXPERIENCE I have ever had. They were so good with my dog and his haircut was impeccable. They were tipped quite well because it was such a 180 from my terrible (2) experiences at the other location. If you must go to Petco, DO NOT GO TO THE MADISON LOCATION. read more

Petco and their grooming staff are not good honest people. This is our second bad experience with them and they seem to not care about certain customers. Today, we had an appointment for our two goldendoodles puppies to get groomed. Our appointment was at 8a. We arrived at 7:55. The store was still a little dark so instead of getting the puppies and our kids out of the vehicle to walk to the door, my husband walked up by himself to check to see if they were open. The doors did not open and they had the hours of operation from 9a to close. So I thought to myself maybe I put the wrong time down and it was at 9a. We drove home and came back to the store at 9a. Automatic doors opened and we went to the grooming department. A young lady advised us that the groomer left after we pulled off. What?! We told them that we were here at 8a but the doors did not open. She advise us the we had to pry the automatic doors open and come on in. Now we are disgusted and upset. We spoke with the manager and he was basically a yes man. We explained to him that there is nothing on the door telling us to pry open the automatic door during non-operating hours for the salon. We were not told this information. Did they expect my husband (a black man) to basically break into the store? All it would have taken was someone to call the police and my husband could have been in jail or dead. Why? Because there was no information telling people to pry open the automatic doors before the store open hours. Besides, the groomer saw my husband come up to the door and leave. Yet she did not call us to say, " Hey, I just saw you all leave. We are open." She either didn't want to work or she didn't want to serve us. I say that because this is our second incident where grooming has not served us and I am starting to think its because of the color of our skin. read more

Let me start by saying we've experienced the groomer from hell at another establishment. We tried Petco with hopes our westie would look ilike a westie when we picked him up. Very happy to say we've had our Westie groomed several times and we've been pleased each time. Our dog looked like a westie. It was easy to get an appointment.
