I took my dog to get seen for blood work because I needed to get prescriptions to remove ticks off my dog. They told me his bloodwork came back positive for Lyme disease. Come to find out it wasn't true. I had to take my dog to the Vet to get a better look at what was actually going on. I don't recommend anyone coming here to find out what is going on with their pet. The employees were nice and all but it's not okay to let someone know that their dog has a disease when they actually don't. read more

This is my go to place for pet supplies They have everything you need for your pets cats dogs Birds and fish you name it they've got it They also have a dog grooming area and they do a pretty good job end a veterinarian in case you animals have health problems or need a shot Their prices are also great and the help from the cashier to the people on the floor all very friendly and helpful if you need anything just ask And every once in a while when I go there they have puppies up for adoption which is a good thing So if you're in the area give them a try I believe you'll be well satisfied read more

For whoever is looking to go to this petco I would not. I have been to this place many times and every time I have had a bad experience with service and attitude. Recently when I have been there, I was watching the ferrets when a store working had scolded me and told me to leave. I went today to get my dog vaccinated. I've had her for two months, a rescue. I expressed to the vet that she has major anxiety around new people, hence the barking so not to crowd around her. She says *in a snarky way* "Maybe you should take her back to Syosset where they're more well equipped to handle her" I literally never leave reviews but was so dumbfounded at the vet and vet techs' inability to be hospitable and loving to my dog. They were talking amongst themselves about her barking practically in front of my face. The vet also literally kept calling my dog crazy and told my sister to take her outside right after she'd vaccinated her to not scare her other dogs (at Petco). All around - a horrible experience and really genuinely concerned for the animals she works with! (I don't know her name but she was a brunette woman with glasses, 30-ish, probably older idk) read more

The manager on staff named Donna Haines made me feel extremely uncomfortable during my visit at Petco. I watched her disrespect one of the groomers who appeared pregnant. From what I overheard the employee was in need of a break and Donna was rude and called her dramatic. When a manager is disrespectful to their employees infront of customers, it sets a tone. I don't appreciate this older woman belittling her employees - especially if they are pregnant. Customers: beware of supporting this store as the management is unprofessional. read more

Ariela did an amazing job with my maltese puppy. She looks adorable again! At Petco, I know who the groomer is, unlike the one I was going to. Ariela knew what a Maltese is supposed to look like, the groomer i was going to made her look like a bubble head & had to return a few times because not enough was done. Very impressed with my shopping experience today. I came in to get a new harness for my dog since she keeps slipping out of her old one. Kevin was very attentive and helpful but then Bill came over to personally fit her! He was knowledgeable, kind and funny made me and my very scared little dog feel very comfortable and cared for. I had originally been looking at one harness but then the one he put on her looked great and less time to put on also! The store is clean, organized clearly very well kept. My dog was even offered a cookie with my permission, but she didn't want it. Thank you so much Kevin and Bill for taking such good care of my little girl!! read more

Over the moon with my 8 month old poodles grooming experience. I have had dogs for 20 years. To be honest, I hated every grooming experience my dog ever had. He always came home looking ridiculous. With my puppy, Sammy, I did all my research and tried to only send him to the best places. Not only did anyone ever listen to how I wanted him groomed, which is just a trim all around, nothing insane, but he's come home to be scarred and physically hurt and needing vet attention. I went to Petco one day to pick up his dog food and noticed all the dogs coming out of the groomer looked so nice! So, I booked Sammy an appointment and it was such a great experience. read more

Rude. Went in to make a simple return. Was on the line waiting my turn. When it became my turn, before I even started walking towards the register, the cashier loudly yells out"phone number", and I didn't answer her until I was actually in front of her. I put the two items I was returning WITH the receipt on top of the items down on the counter, clearly within view, and she says, 'what is this"?. I said 'what do you mean, what is this, it's a return', she says, 'because you didn't say so'. I didn't know I had to engage with this person about something that should have been abundantly clear and very obvious to her as being a return. Who would have put a receipt on items they wanted to purchase? This woman was just looking to start something about nothing, to make herself look like she had some importance. At this point I was holding the receipt, and she aggressively snatched it from out of my hand. When she was giving me back the receipts, she just held it for me to take, and turned her head the opposite way, no eye contact nothing, just a bad attitude, coming from a miserable, loud, obnoxious, unhappy person, who shows up for work, wanting to do the bare minimum, and still get paid. Barking at customers like she's a german shepard. She belong's in one of the cages in there wearing a muzzle, with a sign that reads, 'High strung, ready to pounce, aggressive, hostile, and unfriendly. Not good with people, other pets or children. Will need a lot of training and medication to pacify, so adopt at your own risk, hopeless case, stay away'. read more

Recently became a ham dad! *Code for hamster dad.* I have never an issue getting small animals from here and the staff is extremely nice. I have actually gotten about 7 small animals from here and each lived their full life cycles. When i walked in i was greeted with a hello and a smile and the place was neat and organized. I appreciate the woman who i was speaking with but i unfortunately forgot her name! I have been really interested in ferrets and im excited that they have gotten younglings lol. The woman i spoke to was very knowledgeable and kind and im excited to come meet some more furry friends. read more

Amazing grooming!! I went to a groomer, Cold Noses, and the groomer told me my dog was "harmful to herself" and she could not possibly cut her hair, yet she still charged for a bath... So I called Petco and they were happy to take me the very next morning. The grooming session was complete in 15 minutes and the groomer said my dog was absolutely wonderful (and she is a 1 year old puppy also). She said she is sweet and just needed to feel comfortable, but did not even need the harness when cutting her hair!! I highly recommend going here, and only 45$ for the full groom (petco charged me 30 since she did not need a bath or nails) read more

Ariela is so caring with my dog. I only take her for a bath and to have nails trimmed but when she sees Ariela she gets excited. I feel I am dealing with a groomer on a personal level , I know her and she knows me but more importantly she knows my dog could not find a better groomer. read more

We love grooming at Petco Massapequa. Our child, Cerberus, a 3 year old shepherd mix sees Ariela for grooming. She's patient, kind, and truly loves animals. Our dog always comes out happy, never fearful, and I've never noticed an injury following his appointments. Ariela is more than generous with her time and she frequently squeezes us in last minute, and has him back to me in no time. I'm a PSYCHO dog Mom- so my word is golden! read more

So went to run into get a few gifts for the pups and I see the cutest black lab mix up for adoption. So I walk over and ask about details. Keep in mind this is a rescue puppy. One of the staff super friendly proceeds to tell me it takes 10 to 15 minutes and a $400 donation which to me for a rescue was a bit much, but I looked at that face and the fee was ok. I start the paperwork and after Im almost done I asked the adoption lady after this is done am I free to go? She says no you have to walk around the store and go shopping for the dog...wait! What??? So not only am I donating $400 now I have to spend another $100 or more....hmmm thats not rescuing an animal thats a scam! Shame on that adaption agency and more so on Petco for allowing this fraud to happen! I said to the lady that I wouldn't shop I didn't need anything so she said I couldnt have the puppy. My heart melted! Then proceeded to say I wasnt a fit person for animals! How dare you! Why because you couldnt scam me! To everyone this concerns . I Scott Marcus a vet technician of 5 years and a groomer certified by the best grooming school in the country . Wired at massapequa petco on sunrise highway in massapequa . My clientele was huge because everyone knows how good I am at caring for animals and how much pride I take in my work . I have never had a grooming incident or sent any dog to the vet for cuts or anything . My veterinary knowledge has also helped many in caring for there pets . A few weeks ago I was written up by my district manager . I had one of my clients dogs in the salon . An adorable cockapoo . This dog is on medication for the fact that it had 2 torn ACLs . They chose not to go with surgery because of the outrageous cost and because the vets had said sometimes it's only a temporary fix . For his dog I had to do a lot of special handling to prevent stretching of the legs in any way that might hurt the dog . So for one part I had a fellow groomer come and help to hold her up so I could get her underbelly safely and not endanger the animal . Being as she was only hooked to the table by the one loop around it's neck and it went against petco policy I was written up for it and terminated . My client the owner of this dog is also outraged that petco holds its policies to a higher standard then what is best for the pet . A few months back I was written up for carrying a dog into the salon area . Let's face it some dogs are scared and some dogs just don't like going to the groomer . So I picked him up and carried him in. I was told that no matter what I'm supposed to walk them in I said what if they don't walk and to that I was told to pull them in . I told them I refuse to drag any dog across the floor into grooming or to scare any dog by dragging it in . Let's also acknowledge that I have been working here for 3 years . In this period I tried multiple time to get them to replace things in the salon that may endanger animals and the people who work there . Rusted cages big holes in the tubs . Rotted wood and some cages even held closed by zip ties are some of the things I tried to have them replace to which I was told for the past 3 years that they would not sink the money into fixing these problems . Be careful with petco because it is obvious that policy's matter when pets really don't share this to everyone you know who has a pet . There untrained groomers who cut dogs and yell at them all the time are a hazard to this pet industry . What ever happened to a pets safety coming first . I have a 15 year old male shihtzu that is incontinent and wears diapers-he was in desperate need of a haircut since my previous groomer went out of business due to COVID-I got an appointment at Petco in Massapequa and upon arrival I discussed my dogs issues/diaper rash-it happens-if anyone has a child they know! Anyway, I mentioned I applied diaper rash ointment, etc., she took my dog, I signed paperwork, etc., only to get a call 20 minutes later to pick him up because she didn't feel comfortable with the rash? She proceeded to tell me to take the diaper off and let it air out for a while??? What part of incontinent didn't she understand??? So if a child has a diaper rash your telling me to just leave it without a diaper so it can pee/poop all over??? No! You clean the area with the proper soothing agents then apply diaper rash cream/ointment and put the diaper back on!!! This is a groomer correct? Dogs skin is constantly irritated and my previous groomer would do an oatmeal bath or medicated shampoo??? They waisted my time for nothing! In 2 hours my dogs rash was gone! I had to cut his hair myself and I'm not a groomer yet I was able to do it! Pathetic amateurs! Never again!!! read more

They were able to get my Dog in last min for grooming after my groomer canceled on me an hour before my appt time. They seemed to do a good job, although when my BF picked him up, they almost forgot to clip his nails, which seemed odd to me- it then left my dog getting all excited thinking he was leaving, and the groomer having to wrestle him around to try and cut his nails- which he could have just taken him to the station and taken care of it. Instead he did it right there on the floor. They seem short handed, and a little unorganized, maybe the second person was new, didn't know much about the computer system and looking my information up. I was nervous to leave him there, but being 9 mo pregnant didn't have a choice to get him cleaned up before the baby comes! I was grateful to get him in last min, but wish it was an easier, friendlier, more organized process! read more

My dog was too excited when she saw her groomer Melissa. I have taken her to other groomers but she only gets excited when she comes to Petco. They have the best groomers, who are very loving to your dog and treats them like they are their own. My dog comes in very happy and leaves very happy, sometimes she doesn't want to leave. This by far is the best Petco. I love to bring my frenchie here and look for new toys and treats. I love how they now carry more high end food and treats. The selection is great and the returns are effortless. The staff is wonderful always greeting us and they adore my boy and he soaks up all the attention he can get. We also use their grooming to have his nails done since its the one thing my boy won't let me do, and the groomers are fantastic with him. It makes it so much more stress free for both of us. Going there is a real treat for him and we make it a point to visit at least once a week!!! read more
