My wife and I went in today with our 5-month-old kitten to take advantage of the free Vetco wellness exam. Upon arrival the vet tech (Lizbeth V) took the weight of our kitten and asked a series of questions. These questions were routine: pet name, breed, color, age, and if the kitten was spayed. A photo of our kitten was also taken. All questions were answered and she then asked if we had any concerns outside of a basic examination. After we answered no, she then advised that in the event that our kitten is sick they are not a full pet hospital and if there is anything wrong with her, they cannot prescribe medications. We assured her, our kitten is not sick, she is up to date on her vaccines and there are not health concerns. She thanked us and said, "let me tell the doctor so she can see what she wants to do." She came back to us quickly to reiterate that this was just a basic examination and if there was anything wrong with our kitten they could only do so much. We reminded her that there are no health concerns. She then stated the doctor did not think the visit was necessary because there are limited slots and this was just a basic exam. (We had an appointment at 10am). Frustrated we walked out of the door and decided that this was a waste of our time, and we wanted to get the name of the doctor. (Dr. Amanda Picking) We came back in and asked the vet tech why there was an assumption that we brought in a sick kitten. Her answer was "We see it a lot where people come in because they see the word 'free' and assume this is where they should bring sick pets." "This is what the doctor is used to, and we see it a lot, some people cannot afford to take their pet to the vet, and they bring them here because they saw the word free." Per the Petco website, "Vetco Total care offers a free initial wellness exam for new clients at participating full-service hospital locations inside Petco." Key details include eligibility: First-time clients at vetco total care only" Services covers a comprehensive checkup (eyes, ears, teeth, skin, heart, lungs). The objective was a vetco wellness exam and NOTHING was done because according to Lisbeth V and Dr. Amanda Picking our visit was unnecessary due to limited slots. (Although we had an appointment) Ultimately, I believe we were racially profiled. We specifically said our kitten is healthy, eating normal, active and showing no signs of illness which was written on the subjective of the receipt we were sent via email. This was completely unacceptable someone should be held accountable. We will never attempt to become a customer at Petco again. read more

Petco in Murfreesboro has groomed my poodle for years and I brought him today to get groomed, and because he has a very slight heart murmur that he's not even treated for, they have a new "policy" that states they cannot groom him anymore. Also of importance, I cannot find anywhere online or on their website that states that this is in fact policy. Complete shocker to me because they have been so good to all of our animals for a long time. Never again will I spend another dollar with this company after that. Complete inconvenience and now I've got to find a new groomer. Bottom line, huge disappointment from what I thought was a really good company. I've been using Petco as my go to for dog food and fish for quite a while. Almost 2 weeks ago our almost 17 year old PomAPoo died. Today, we received beautiful roses and a sympathy card from Petco. I brought my dog in she has cancer which I had asked when making the appointment if that was okay and they said it was But once I got there at 7 AM in the morning she refused to cut her hair. This should have been told to me before getting up so early on Saturday morning and getting my dog ready to come in. I have had good experiences there just do not get Shonda. read more

Extremely dissatisfied with customer service. I'm in the process of changing my dogs dog food and forgot to turn off repeat delivery for her old dog food. I brought it to the store with my receipt to return it, no problem. For the refund I asked for a gift card or something if be able to use on PetCo.com because the new dog food I'm getting her is only available on their online store. The man who helped me said I'd be able to use the card online. Well, I can't. Turns out I got issued a PetCo Merchandise Card which is only redeemable at the physical store. When I discovered this, I went back and asked for a gift card or to just put the funds back on my original debit card. They told me they couldn't do it but if I called their customer service number then they'd be able to give me an online credit or transfer the funds to my online account. When I called the customer service number I was given, they told me there's nothing they could do but a manager inside the store could help me out. I went back to the store, spoke with the manager, and they told me they couldn't do anything but if I called customer service they could help me out. I called customer service again, thinking maybe I just didn't speak with the right person, but nope. They told me the same thing - that they couldn't help me but a manager in the store could. Went back into the store, told me they couldn't help, so I asked if they could order the dog food I'm wanting to purchase on their online store to the store so that I could just use the card that way since the card can only be used for in person purchases. They told me they weren't able to do that but could possibly do a transfer if another store had it in stock. No store within a 70 mile radius gets it shipped to the store, so they couldn't do that. After running in circles, nobody could help me or fix this mistake made on THEIR part. So now I'm stuck with this merchandise card that I'm not going to use and had to drop an additional $70 just to order the dog food online. Absolutely ridiculous, and extremely dissatisfied with their service and how they "handled" this situation. read more

I dropped off my dog Teddie for a haircut and they called an hour later saying they cut him, but "it didn't look that bad." They couldn't finish his cut and said that I could bring him to the vet if I want. Turns out he needed 3 staples for his wound. They said come in 3 days later for them to finish the cut. I came in and they couldn't finish it (due to staples), which I wish I knew before I had my third trip to Petco with no completed haircut! Teddy has a cone, 3 staples, and half a haircut for 2 weeks and I have to give his anti biopics twice a day. Yes, accidents happen. Yes, they paid for the vet bill, but it made for a very stressful day and a big inconvenience. I will take Teddy elsewhere for future cuts. read more

We absolutely loved this Petco until we didn't. I live in the middle of nowhere and would make the 45 min drive once a month to get my dog's nails trimmed. First off, the store is always clean, the staff in the retail part are always friendly and helpful. I definitely appreciate this for when we didn't want to buy online (which is the standard due to location.) When we first started coming, there was a young man there and my pup Jack took to him like a fish to water - which was uncommon since he's an abused rescue. It was worth the drive to bring him to someone he liked. Then the man was gone. They kept saying he was going to come back, but he unfortunately did not. Unnamed groomer guy - I hope you're somewhere great working with animals. Point of reference for what I'm about to say: 1. You can't schedule just nails online 2. They've stopped answering the phone 3. My dog is small and very well behaved (sadly, it's fear based behavior from the abuse). His nails are always done by the time I can walk over, pay the bill, and walk back. For the last three months, we've gotten there and been told they can't do him. I explained we had to drive 45 mins to get here and was told it was walk in only and this was the third month it's happened. I've even offered to stick around and do errands and come back. They were basically like "oh well, we have someone who doesn't show up all the time, we can't do it." Honestly, if you're "walk-in only" and won't answer the phone and have someone who is regularly messing up your weekends bc they don't show up that combo puts this on you. I let the manager know we wouldn't be back (1.5 hours in the car for nothing) and he was polite enough but was like, "Okay." What it boils down to is you've promised a service (walk in ONLY) and three months in a row cost me the time and gas to be told "Oh well" Also, I'd like to say, one of the women there is extremely rough with dogs. Came in here looking for fun, and found a professional snake keeper and a great selection of dog clothes. My friend and I decided to strike up a conversation with one of the Petco employees, and what started out as the simple question "Do you have any pets?" was blindsided by the response, "Yes, 24 snakes." He raises them and rents them out for movies and takes them around as an education exhibit. He is also in the reptile club at MTSU. My response was "You could be the reptile club all by yourself, man!" Overall, this Petco was clean, and they had a couple of cute cats to look at. Went here today to buy bones and puppy food for our four legged friend. The place it well thought out. The aisles are not too close together and the shelves are very well stocked. They have a lot of sale items and have everything you could possibly want. I did notice that they have a groomer too. The store was organized, signs made sure you knew where to find what your were looking for, and the staff was very nice. I will go here again most def! So you call Petco grooming and make an appointment for a specific TIME...we were told 3-4 hours. Granted we live an hour drive each way. So we bring her in even a bit early. And we find things to do around town while we wait. 4 hours later. With the groomer mumbling under his breath when we came back to check. At which point he brings her out. UNTOUCHED!!! No bath no rough cut. NOTHING!!!! I don't care how "busy" it is. We had an appointment (when dropping her off she said the groomer doesn't even get in until 11. I have a so-so experience with this place. The pros: it's not very crowded. It's like a ghost town compared to Petsmart which is good for when you're in a rush or are bringing a puppy to meet only a few people/dogs at a time. It's also always been clean when I've came in. The cons: Although the groomers are super nice, they're kind of absent minded. I asked for a certain shampoo and they agreed, then not even a few minutes after I'd left my pup - I just had a feeling that she didn't listen. I walked back in just to remind her and like I thought, she had forgotten. They also forgot to give me my new client discount. I also wasn't too keen on the trainers there. This is merely an observation as I used Wag it Better for my dog, but from what I saw - the trainers seemed rude. One of them kept giving me the meanest look just because I was observing the class from a whole aisle over. I'm talking straight up glaring at me without breaking eye contact as he walked a dog. It was kind of unsettling, one would think nondisruptive observing would be a good thing as there couldn't be a better advertisement of the services. If I could give 0 stars I would. The last time I went by Petco grooming I did not have a great experience. However, I was told to give them another chance. They are fully staffed now. Sadly , the young lady never finished my scheduled mini groom on my dog. She said my dog was stressed and did not want her to groom her. I would think she is the professional. She know how to handle a dog that doesn't want to get groomed. Let's be honest, 50% of dogs don't want to get groomed. I've never had this problem at pet smart. Never! The three prior stores all agreed that my Tank was FISH-READY! Went to this Petco to adopt a couple of Guppies. Instantly, it was one of the Managers that immediately interrogated us on what kind of tank we had, what we had in it. We told her that we had the water tested and told her that it was fish-ready. Without letting us even complete a sentence, she snarkly rejected our business and told us no. No individual in that position should be that disgusting towards their customers, we will not be doing anymore business with Petco after this. My tank is in an extremely better quality than Petco's tanks, they literally have dead fish, fish attacking fish, and overall poorly maintained tanks. Very clean and well lighted store. I like the glass walls where you can watch your dog getting groomed. The store has a huge selection of just about every domestic animal item you would need. They have a large variety of dog foods. The staff asked me twice today if they could help me with anything at all. Checking out was quick and simple. Don't go to this store, at least when a dog trainer named street is around. No, I'm not kidding his name tag said Street... I was walking to the grooming salon when 'street' told me to get out of his area. I told him i needed to go to the salon and he said yeah well its locked in a menacing confrontational tone. I said that i didn't appreciate his attitude and he held his fists out and asked me what i was going to do about it. Then he proceeded to give me attitude about how he wasn't a stand down type of guy as if he was ready to fight over me trying to go to the grooming salon. I said i was just in here trying to shop. He said yeah well not in my area your not. No one came to resolve the situation, not even the manager even though several employees witnessed what happened. The time before this he made me and my dog leave the bird section. He is always giving people dirty looks and now my wife is afraid to go into the store because of him. I was quite distressed that, after paying an extra $25 for a "blueberry facial" to remove the dark spots around my dogs eyes, she came out with the same dark spots. The only thing they seemed to manage was to to cut so much hair from her that she was unrecognizable! Then in addition to that, she was clearly not allowed an opportunity to go potty because as soon as she was placed on the ground she peed more than I've ever seen her pee in her life!! You'd think that with the almost $75 fee she would have been cleaned up and groomed as all dogs are for her breed and cared for properly. I usually like petco but this was our last time there. There were well over a hundred dead fish just floating in the tanks. the gold fish tanks help dozens each just dead anf floating around. My son commented on the number of dead fish and the employee said " I know Ive been cleaning them out all day." so, imagine how many there were!! I used to be there all the time a few years ago and if my kids, being kids, saw a rare dead fish the employees ran to clean it up. Now its little more than a grave yard. I cannot say enough nice things about this store and the people working the closing shift on 4/26/16! My boyfriend and I picked up our puppy in Manchester and rushed back to Murfreesboro to get all the necessary supplies. We got there about 15 minutes until close. Working in retail, I understand that customers coming in at the last minute can be frustrating - especially those with a new dog who have absolutely nothing for the little guy! The girls working were so sweet - they took the time to go over the coupon book with us and let me know what coupons we could use on what brands, they gave our pup a treat and lots of love. Bought a Pacman Frog there and was satisfied with the tanks, water bowls, food, and the frog itself but the cashier blatantly lied to me about how often Pacman frogs eat. She said the Juvenile ate 3 crickets a day but I knew full well they only eat maybe 3 A WEEK. Of course I feigned ignorance but I knew what she was doing. I bought 10 crickets, the frog (which I named Wollace), the tank, and a little bowl and have not and do not plan on returning. Everything else was fine but the flat out lie is inexcusable. read more

Whatever you do, don't purchase a Betta fish from Petco in Murfreesboro. On 05-02- 2018 I went to Petco in Murfreesboro to purchase a female Elephant Ear Betta fish (which is relatively expensive). I drove about 70 miles to get there. It was a very disappointing. I went directly to the Betta fish display. What I found was very alarming. There was a dead fish that looked like it had been dead a while, There were several sick fish that needed immediate attention. I am a avid Betta fish collector. I have 9 male Bettas of different varieties and 6 females in a sorority tank. So I know what a sick fish looks like. Also the cups had dirty water and the bottom of the cups were covered with fish excrement . There was a employee in the area, I told him there was a dead Betta fish and several sick Betta fish. He ignored me. At that point I was really hot so I decided to leave the store. As I was leaving I said to the cashier very loudly, This store has sick fish. When ! got to the car I decided something needed to be done to help the betta fish so I went back in the store and asked for the district managers address or phone number .She said no one there has it. So I hope my calling the terrible condition of their fish will make a difference. I didn't get the information for the district manager but I hope serious Betta collectors will take my advice. Sure wish there was another store close by that had the dog food I need -- they just cannot get it together here! I got their 20% off coupon and made a special trip to get dog food only to notice the discount was barely 10% on checkout...After returning to inquire, I was told the coupon "didnt scan right" she knew the discount wasnt given but just didnt care to fix it, so I had to come back! And this is not the first time this kind of thing has happened..... I'm leaving this review due to a very unprofessional employee that I had the unfortunate pleasure of encountering. My reason for visiting was the fact that I needed more silver dollar freshwater fish since my usual pet store of choice didn't have as many as I wanted. Before I begin, I should say that I've been keeping freshwater fish since I was eight years old and I'm now well into my twenties and own several large 55 gallon tanks that I do myself. My experience began when I was searching for an employee to assist me in retrieving the fish I needed. I had to hunt someone down and unfortunately got this gentleman that I had to deal with. His attitude was what one could call 'cocky'. In the beginning, he asked me the general what size is your tank question which I replied to as usual. After this was when things went downhill. He then said, in the same tone, "How long has it been set up?" I said a while. I just did the routine maintenance 2 weeks ago. (Each of my tanks run on very large Fluval canister filters) After my response there was a slight pause and he started to get my fish. Suddenly he said, in the exact tone as earlier, " I hate selling fish to a dying tank." I was so stunned at this that I was practically speechless. I have been to many pet stores, including this very Petco in the past and no one has ever said this to me. And so, I waited for this 'gentleman' to get the numbers to my fish. The thing that angers me the most was what this man said to me as he handed me my fish before walking off. His exact words were "Be truthful next time." This man, basically called me a liar to my face. I have NEVER encountered any employee like this ever. I couldn't even say a single thing because I was so stunned. As soon as I left I called the manager to complain. This man is very unprofessional and should be fired. I don't care if you are having a bad day or if you are talking to a beginner who is getting an aquarium or and expert. You NEVER treat anyone like this. Even as a write this, I'm not sure what this man's problem was. I was treated poorly before I even opened my mouth to say what I wanted. To conclude, my angelfish, dainos, and catfish have been happy and healthy for the past 5 years. So it's a good thing 'you didn't sell to a dying tank'. In fact, Petco's tanks need some TLC. For anyone looking to buy fish or aquarium supplies in Murfreesboro, I recommend Animal City. Friendly employees, good aquarium and parts selection, and well cared for fish. Went in to get a dog collar and see about dog training for my puppy. After I picked out a collar and was on my way to talk to someone about dog training, the man who was training a dog when I walked by started talking talking very rudely about my dog and me to the other dog owner. I understand my dog has not been professionally trained yet, as she is still a puppy, but there is no reason for an employee to talk bad about someone in the store right in front of them when my dog did not jump, bark, or growl. My dog came back with some really serious razor burn on my belly and bottom and it took a couple hundred dollars worth of vet care to get him comfortable again.
