My partner and I came here to get supplies for our new cat. They were very organized by what we needed for her as well as helpful at checkout. The cashier noticed the amount of stuff we were getting and asked "New cat?" When I confirmed that, he pulled out a "new cat" coupon book. We have brought our doodle here since he was 10 weeks. We would bring him for puppy play time Saturday and Sundays and he loved it! He is now 10 months and the most confident and social butterfly ever. We also use Petco for training. We worked with Meredith she's amazing. My dog loves her and she is very good and patient with him. We learned a lot with the puppy training classes. Currently going through the adult classes to curb some jumping and pulling and I already see some improvement with him. I can't say enough good things about the training. read more

I've been going to this location for quite some time now to get my dogs nails trimmed and buffed. Usually when I come in they take her and do her nails and leave. Today they got a new groomer that actually did a 7 point inspection on my dog which I never got from the other groomers. She also gave great advice about how to keep her nails trimmed. I literally come here once- three times a week with my Boston Terrier puppy. Employees there are genuinely kinda and they're super helpful. They handed me brochures and pamphlets with coupons and information about Vetco. Which I'm all about saving money. Their rewards program is one of the best! The staff is rude, especially in the aquatic department. I spoke to a young girl and guy in the last two days. There is a young girl that gave bad advise and pushed product to a customer that was wrong, I guess just to make a sale. I asked another guy for help and he was very short with me, gave me an answer and just walked away. Not even asked me if he can help me. Today I went to buy fish and the same girl tried to act smart and asked me all about my fish, I told her that I have been in the hobby for forty years with multiple tanks, I was buying five cherry barbs, she put no guarantee on the receipt. I called the store and asked them why, the manager said because of overcrowding in my tanks. They didn't even know what where the fish that I had in the tank. She probably does not know what a quarantine tank is either, I should have asked her. What a bunch of presumptuous rude staff. read more

If I could give this place negative stars it would be more accurate than even none. My dog was seen at the grooming salon just for a bath. The woman who's name I was told is Amy was rude both in person and over the phone. There was no question that she did no like her job. This woman ended up being the groomer who bathed my dog!!! We were handed our dog with two deep abrasions between his eyebrows and a bald spot on his head!!!!! Again my dog was booked ONLY for a bath. He is a blue nose pit bull and requires little to no grooming just brushing! This woman did not inform us of his injuries we noticed them immediately and she would not come back to the desk to explain!!!!!! The manager was less than ideal at handling the situation, he refunded my $30 and felt it was suffice. After insisting our dog be checked out by a vet ( they have no vet on staff with them). He sent us over to Companion animal hospital where the vet "did petco a favor " and examined my dog behind their building by the dumpster as to hide the situation. This animal hospital was having an open house with neighborhood and pets welcome but here we stood in the alley??? I was furious I'm currently cooperating with corporate headquarters on there investigation of this situation. VETCO KILLED MY PUPPY -- Brought my newly adopted 8 week old puppy in for his first set of shots Wednesday night. The customer service was fine, and the whole process seemed like it went well. We never let him play in grass, with other puppies, and everything was going just fine, until the next morning. He got his shots at about 8pm, we didn't feed him until two hours later like we were suppose to. He ate, we took him out, and went to sleep. Thursday morning he barely ate anything, and didn't want to play. No worries, just a side effect clearly noted and should be gone within 24 hours, also did not want to eat Thursday, and barely drank anything. Now it is Friday, and he hasn't eaten since Thursday, he was clearly dehydrated and malnourished, so we took him to the ER (Chicago Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center -- feel free to read my review of that experience) they said nothing was wrong and he will start eating soon, so we took him back home and he finally nibbled on a few things. Not it is Saturday, it got to a point where we were feeding him through a syringe and was not getting any better. By Sunday morning he couldn't hold any food or water. So we took him back to the same ER, and our vet told us that they could try and save him for a few thousand dollars, and he may pull through. We didn't have thousands of dollars to spend on something that might work. So unfortunately we had to let him go. Finally after we were done grieving, and with no answers decided to look into what caused the problem. It turns out Vetco weighted my 3lb puppy in at 8lbs, and gave him over double the dosage of shots, including shots an 8 week old puppy should not be receiving. If you care about your puppy, I would not take them here. Next time I'm going to find a real place that I like that has knowledgeable caring vets. read more

Standing in the store waiting 20 minutes to get some feeders for my turtle ask the young lady for help who was just standing looking at a young another young man helping someone she asked me to wait I did for about another 15 minutes then I approached her again ask for her help and she sad to wait again at this point I left the store won't be coming back to this Petco anymore better off trying to catch a fish then buy one at this store. read more

Terrible service , the two girls working with grooming the dogs were so incredibly rude. One of them seemed so frustrated with a simple question on how much it was to cut my dogs nails. Then proceeded with picking up the phone and told me to "hold on" once she was off the phone she just walked away knowing I was waiting there. Another girl came out and asked me if I needed help and asked if I had my dogs rabies paper work. Which I didn't and all she did was tell me I needed them and just walked away. Worst service! They looked like they hated their jobs. I'm glad I didn't have my paper work I wouldn't want them taking their aggression out on my dog. read more

Brought my dog in there to get groomed and nails cut. The grooming was cool but they messed up my dogs nails and they are now cracking. Poor thing is limping and might have an infection. Some of the nails even look like they were not trimmed. Horrible waste of money. It seems like they don't know what they are doing. $10 is cheap for nails to be trimmed but not worth it for the price at this store. They will Freddy Kruger your dogs paws. Also, the staff there is horrible. It's like no one works at the store. Every time I go in there I need to ask the cashier to call someone on the intercom. Are they all hiding in the break room? Petco did reimburse me for my vet bills and for the groom which was nice. It turns out she had clipper burn. The groomers have the clippers on all day and they get really hot which caused the burn. That's what cooling spray is for though. It took about almost 2 weeks for my dog to act like herself again. I appreciate the refund and kindness from the manager, but I still wont use the grooming services again. read more

The groomer, Katlyn, is very polite and kind to talk to. My dog never gives me a hard time to go into the store to get the grooming done. So I think we are all happy. I take my dog 4 times a year for the grooming and I'm a senior citizen so I'm not sure if I will be able to continue to afford the grooming. Brought my puppy in for nail clipping and the young gentleman working was extremely courteous and helpful. So I thought when it was time for her to get a bath, I would go back. After all, my experience had been pleasant the first time, and when I had gone there for purchasing food and bedding equipment, the sales reps were good. This changed when I dealt with Anne, who I wish I could type what I really feel on this page but I can't. I called before going there and asked if I could bring my puppy in for grooming and was told yes. I said thatI understood if there would be a wait, but was told it wouldn't be too long. When I got there,Anne was behind the counter, and started the conversation with me before I could even say hi with a curt, "Do you have an appointment?" I told her no, but had just called. She said, "No you didn't, because I've been here the whole time". I then said I was told that I could bring her in for a grooming, and she said, "well, not from me". I then said that I would like to drop off my puppy. She told me that wasn't possible and then walked into the grooming area. I waited five minutes for her to come back out and when she emerged, I said, "I'd like to make an appointment for grooming." She said nothing was available that day, so I asked about Sunday, and she said I won't know if you can get in until 4 pm so you'll have to call back". Bottom line is that Anne is single-handedly going to make me drive to River Forest or Hillside to go to another location. DO NOT BUY FISH FROM THIS STORE!!!!! They have the prettiest guppies but out of the 40 I have purchased over the last two years, only one lived. They have a return policy if you bring the dead fish back along with a water sample. My water was always fine. The service is rude and I was told to get other fish since I seem to be killing guppies. I have never been in this store and been greeted or asked if I need help. They don't acclimate their fish properly and don't seem to care that they lung breathing fish are suffering bc they are not taking them out of the bag! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I purchased a kennel from this location a week ago that was labeled "Oops" because it was "missing the bottom tray", and there were no new kennels in stock. A missing tray is not a big deal, especially since trays are sold separately as well, but this completely unprepared location didn't have any of those either. Well, turns out I didn't need the tray because that wasn't the problem with this kennel AT ALL. Once I got home and put it together, I saw that it was completely beat up! It was all bent and broken with pieces sticking out and a door that barely opened. This kennel was so badly beaten that it was a safety hazard for our new puppy. It is store policy to check all returns, and it was very clear that no employees ever even took this kennel out of the box. They just stuck a sticker on it and put in back on the shelf. I called immediately and spoke to Kyle, the store manager. We explained to him the situation and finally came to an agreement to purchase a more expensive brand kennel (because they still didn't get any of ours in stock) for a discounted price, but we were still going to have to pay a difference of at least $30. Kyle said that he would put the kennel aside and we were going to come in the next Monday to exchange. Because of personal issues, we were unable to get to the store until today (Wednesday). Kyle was not in, but a different so-called "manager" named Anne was working. And this is when our bad experience became MUCH worse. Anne needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY! We came in and explained to her our situation and what Kyle said and her exact words were "Yeah, I heard about you guys. We just hired new employees and they don't know what they're doing". Um, well, as a manager, isn't it YOUR job to make sure that they do? Then she proceeded to say with a lot of attitude that there was nothing she can do, that she didn't know anything about the situation (even though she had just said she was told about us), and that we had to call corporate because Kyle was the only one that could do something. So right there in the store, my fiance got on the phone with corporate. Meanwhile, I took the kennel out of the box to show Anne the damage (who couldn't do it herself because of a "bad back", which doesn't make sense because you work in a place that requires constant lifting so you just told a customer you can't do your own job). She proceeds with her attitude with me and begins to try and interrupt me and get nastier with me and put her hand in my face, which is COMPLETELY unacceptable. My fiance and I told her NUMEROUS TIMES to remove her hand from my face. As to not resort to physically removing her hand, I turned away and took a couple of steps back from Anne. Well I guess Anne had had enough of playing manager because she decided at this point to say "Fuck you" to me, thinking I didn't hear her. I wasn't out of earshot, and neither was my fiance and several other customers when she did this, so I immediately whipped around and in front of all the employees and customers called her out and said "Screw you too", at which point she ran into the manager's office and refused to come out until we left. While she was gone, we also found out that the kennel Kyle said he was going to put aside, HE NEVER DID so AGAIN they didn't even have any kennels for us in stock! The entire time we were in the store was a COMPLETE waste of our only day off. Finally, my fiance located another store (Petco at Lawrence and Pulaski) that had the kennel we needed, so we went there. The manager there (I believe it was Edwin...?) was AMAZING! He instantly understood us and that fact that the CUSTOMER ALWAYS COMES FIRST, especially with what we had just gone through. Because of all the drama and excess headache, we made it clear that we were no longer accepting anything less than a complete exchange at no extra cost for a new kennel. Edwin said that he could only make it a one time thing, and like a rockstar, he did everything right then and there. Of course I asked Edwin if he was the store manager, since Anne claimed she had no power to do anything and only the store manager did. Edwin is NOT a store manager, which shows that Anne had the same power to handle our situation from the beginning and she just didn't want to be bothered. Our situation with the kennel may be resolved, but I'll never step foot in this location again, and Anne, you deserve nothing more than being fired. read more

Love this place. Everyone here is super knowledgable and reassuring. Even if they don't know the answer to the question, they call a manager or find someone who does know. Everytime i go here i have a great experience and i know that i will not walk out disappointed. When i had troubles with my fish they knew exactly what i needed to do to fix it and with a little time its fixed. For example, my betta wasnt eating at all, i thought he might be sick. But really the issue is that you dont feed them everyday and that they need to be on a strict diet. Now every other day my betta eats normally, is very active, and builds bubble nests. I will be back soon for a live plant to add to the tank. These people really show they care and it makes me feel so much more comfortable with going there for advice when i cannot figure the problen out myself via internet research. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would but since I can't I'll have to be fine with just one. The reason I'm giving this place a one star because of the cleanliness and how they're staff are. I'm a regular volunteer with the cats that they have here and usually I always have an okay experience with the staff. Some staff here are actually nice and never give me attitude with anything. The manager on the other hand, she's always the one who has a huge attitude and is very disrespectful. Today I asked for the back room to be open and keep in mind we always do this in order to take the kitties out and have them stretch their legs. I asked politely as always and first thing she does is roll her eyes and starts walking to open the door for me. Then I advise her that there was urine on the floor and she completely ignored me. Once we reach the back room she opens the door and flings in open. Also keep in mind that I'm carrying a carrier with this cat inside and I'm also carrying the toys so my hands aren't free and this door is heavy. She flings the door open and just lets it hit me while I'm still carrying everything including the cat! Usually the person that opens the door always keeps the door open until I'm able to get in the room with the cat! I honestly don't understand why the managers have to be so disrespectful all the time towards us volunteers that are doing a good thing! read more

STAY AWAY FROM ANY CHAIN STORES THAT SELLS PETS!!! I have bought two ferrets from this store and they both had ear mites and bacterial infections. My seven month old ferret got a prolapsed rectum from being so sick and the vet told us that he most likely came like that from the store.The 2 month old that we bought also had some sort of bacteria in his intestines that was preventing him from gaining weight, he was all bones when we got him. I will never again buy a pet or shop for pet supplies at Petco or other chain store. I have read articles from PETA that say to stay away from such stores because the breeders that they deal with, have their animals in horrible conditions, this has proved it. This location is terrible. The sign outside says open at 8am. If you go there even at 9am, the inconsiderate teens opening the store will say they are not open. I have taken my poodle to this grooming location for years to get her hair cut. The last time I took her I showed the tech a photo of how I wanted her hair cut and when I picked her up the tech had shaved all the fur off her tail, I complained to the manager and was reimbursed for the hair cut. I made an appt for 2/10 at 2:30 well at 1 pm the tech called and said they refused to groom my dog because I was unsatisfied, if the tech had of cut my dogs fur correctly the last time there wouldn't have been a problem so because they messed up they are refusing me service. I took my dog in to get her nails filed and from the moment I walked in the lady at the desk was very rude. She gave me an attitude because my dogs papers were still under her previous owners name and she had to call her vet to confirm for her rabies. I usually take her to PetSmart it has never been an issue and they tell me my dog is well behaved and they always ask me to bring her back. The same lady who called my dogs vet took her back to file her nails and I watched through the glass. The whole time the lady seemed in a rush and have no patience for my dog. towards the end my husband and I seen the lady grab my dogs front leg and pull it outward to the side roughly and uncomfortably. When she brought her out to give her back to me she did not say a word or look at me. I will never have her groomed or take her to get her nails filed again here. I would rather drive further to PetSmart than take her here. read more

This Petco is very large, very organized and very clean. It is not a dump like other Petco stores I have visited. The staff is very helpful and always willing to answer questions. My dog was groomed by Wendy, and she did an excellent job grooming my dog, Annie. Annie came out looking like a show-dog and looked absolutely beautiful. She smelled so nice too. Wendy has 14 years of grooming experience and only works in the mornings. My dog is little bit hyper and a little bit over-zealous at times with a bit of an anxiety disorder. Wendy handled Annie like a professional and had no issues dealing with Annie. Thanks Wendy for doing such a fantastic job! Oh yeah -- if you take your dog here for grooming you must prove that your dog is up-to-date on all shots. Otherwise, no grooming will be done on your dog. The price for grooming is $51 to $55 (depending on the size of your dog and how much grooming your dog requires). The price covers nail trimming, bath, hair cut and blow dry. This Petco has good sales, but you must have a Petco card to get the "sale" price. read more

I went here to get an animal that I knew was going to be on sale on black friday that I really wanted. I was a little leery about this because other Petco locations that I have been to were not so great. The animals I had gotten from them were sick the majority of the time and not properly cared for at the store, and the employees seemed to not care at all who was purchasing the animals and if they would be able to take proper care of them or not. But things at this location were totally different!! I asked one of the employees about purchasing this animal and he asked me questions making sure that I knew how to care for it properly. He also made sure that I had a proper enclosure already set up for it at home. He also took me over by the supplies and showed me different items and made some suggestions on what types of things I should also use for the animal. I was very impressed! This is not the closest Petco location to where I live, but it is definitely the only location that I will go to now when I need to. read more
