And as far as this place making any dogs feet itchy. . My dogs feet itched before they went here. And now I brought my own medicated shampoo and she uses it. So give them a Try. Yuri and her crew are the best! This place is always responsive and my dog always comes out looking better than ever. Yuri is very consistent with her cuts, service and price. I love that they don't crate the dogs for those that are waiting to be picked up. She also finishes the cuts in a timely manner. Over the years, she has gotten to know us pretty well so there is that familiarity feeling every time we drop off our dog. I waited a week to write this so I didn't write out of anger. I simply would not take a Standard Poodle to be groomed at this place because they don't know how to groom a Standard Poodle in even the simplest of styles. Note: The little maltipoo-like dog that they were working on looked great. And the owner and staff are friendly. The set up is a bit primitive and cramped. The cost is very expensive. The rest of the review is for standard poodle, and maybe miniature poodle owners who need to know what to expect. I can't speak to how they groom other types of dogs. One of my girls was heavily matted. My bad. I expected a matting fee. Her hair is very dense. However, she was shaved down (I gave my permission for this) but even the shaving was uneven. Coming into the shop the top knot was not as matted, I had just combed it out. There was at least 3 1/2 inches of hair to make a nice top knot. The top knot they did is pictured below. Embarrassing. It's choppy, uneven, and poorly formed. So for $130 tip not included, I got a dog that was shampooed, unevenly shaven, inexpertly cut and not blown out but air dried. I asked for clean feet and there were still tufts of hair around the pads. I asked for clean ears and they weren't cleaned. I have never paid that much for one dog even with the matting fee, and other shops have dealt with my girl being matted and have done a great job. For my other girl, the same story goes. For $100, tip not included, my slightly matted girl was washed, chopped and let air dry. No blowout. So, for $230 tip not included my girls received amateur looking haircuts and were halfway groomed. And they are not difficult dogs to groom behavior-wise. I honestly think, having had so many good cuts to compare it to (I've had three standard poodles), that whomever worked on my dogs simply didn't know how to cut large poodles. The cut I asked for was not fancy. At another place, which is not labeled as cheap, I paid $160 before tip for both dogs and that included the matting fee. I would really like my money back. I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive and that $100 was really needed somewhere else. The owner was really nice though. read more

My dogs always look great after leaving here. I've seen other reviews about the attitude of the owner but honestly, it's never bothered me. She makes it very clear that missing appointments or canceling is not a good idea, as they get booked pretty often. I couldn't imagine working with dogs of all different breeds and personalities all day, including being bit, barked at, and peed on. Also, having owners who show up late for appointments and then late to pick up their dogs could make anyone a little tense. I understand that customer service and attitude is paramount in business but there's a reason why we bring our dogs to a groomer as opposed to grooming them ourselves. I suggest making your appointment, be there on time, pick them up in a reasonable amount of time, and set the next appointment before you leave. read more

This is our first time going to the Dog Room. I was a little concerned because we've only had Tiger for a little over a month and didn't know how he'd take to it. Plus the disease s a different groomer for us. Our old one is not available. No worries. Tiger got along great with the staff, he was giving kisses. They have great staff. They friendly and listen and suggest the correct cut. Tiger is a Welsh Terrier so the look has to just so. He was ready in an hour and half which surprised us. Other places we've had to wait two or three hours. We already set up the next appointment. Great job! read more

Not a great place for bigger dogs. For some reason you're not allowed to leave Google reviews, but we haven't been back since mid 2020. This place might be good for smaller dogs, but and medium to large dogs especially with an undercoat might want to be taken else where. Every time I picked up my husky damp every time. The last time we picked up our dog he was upset with us like if they did something to him. He listens well and isn't as crazy as the average husky so I don't understand why they would treat him badly other than he's big and they don't want to deal with him. read more

Just another reason I love this place. Yesterday I called to make an appointment and they were booked for the next few weekends. They took my number in case there was a cancellation. A couple hours later I got a call. They took him in early Sunday morning and thanked me for bringing him in early. They little shop has an open concept so you can see what's going on. They cancelled my dog's appointment 3 times in a row and when I called to get some accommodation, due to the fact that his hair was very long by the third cancellation, the owner refused to accommodate my dog. So, I had to take him to another groomer for the time being but when we tried to get another appointment for him at The Dog Room, at a future date, the owner spoke to my father very unprofessionally and refused to give him an appointment. I find it important to call out businesses when they are rude and discriminatory. This is a place I would never recommend. read more

This place is an absolute rip off. Got charged $100 for one dog and $130 for my other dog. When we went to pick them up, it looked like they barely had anything done to them. We called to question it and see if they could fix it. They said no, they would not because we scheduled them for a trim. Ok, yes, my husband said a trim when he called. However when he brought them in, he pointed to a dog and specifically asked for a cut similar to that. Nope, not even close to what our dogs received. I'm appaled that they refused to fix it. On top of it, we got yelled at when we called .Over $200 down the drain. read more

This was my first time visiting The Dog Room, Booking the appointment was very easy and luckily there was a opening the same day so I took it! Upon arriving your greeted with a smile and a warm atmosphere, since it was my first time there some quick paper work you need to fill out (Just your basic info like name, address, and the vet you go too) After that the groomer took my dog to the back. He was very anxious and full of fear. My dog is very loud when he goes to the groomer or vet, but i thought when i left he would calm down. An hour and a half passed and i get a call that he is ready to get picked up. When i arrive to pick him up i was told he tried to bite her and was very difficult with cutting around his face, so it was recommended to get him a light tranquilizer for his next visit. All of this was told in a very kind understanding way! I saw a complete difference between the previous groomer and The Dog Room, especially in the face! Ill add some photos showing the difference! They were wonderful with my dog! I took her in to get her nails done and they were incredibly patient with her (and with me). My husky is a typical husky: very vocal and a little over dramatic. I have been bringing my dog here for 7 years and unfortunately today will be the last. I'm not sure if there are new owners, but the usual staff was not present at the time of drop off. I explained how I wanted my dogs haircut and did not receive the short cut I wanted and her ears were not trimmed/plucked inside as requested. Instead, she had white-crusted residue left inside her ear which was difficult to remove and very unpleasant for her. I know she can be difficult when it comes to having her face trimmed but the overall haircut was not what I asked for. I have multiple pictures of how great her haircuts were with the previous female staff members but today was utterly disappointing. read more

We love Kay so much. She has been grooming my dog Mooshu and my moms dog Wrigley for years. She is so patient and does such a good job with their cuts. This past time she even noticed something was going on with mooshu's eye. I took him to the vet and she was absolutely right- an ulcer in his eye. The vet said we caught it at the perfect time. He's a senior dog so I'm really thankful. Kay- thank you for always squeezing us in, being so loving to our dog and being so kind. It's really hard to find someone you trust. Ask for Kay! read more

Took my super furry, extra-shedding golden retriever here a few weeks ago to get weeded out because no matter how much I brushed him with a grooming tool, he was still shedding by the handful. He is generally timid and slightly fearful, but the women at The Dog Room took such good care of him! He even allowed them to trim his feet! He came out looking sleek, evened-out, and handsome as ever. The ladies here could not have been nicer or gentler with him. The Dog Room is a cage free groomer on Addison just east of Harlem in the Dunning neighborhood. I happened to pass the building on my way to work and decided to call them. They quoted me $35 to bathe, trim and clip the nails of my 65 pound lab mix. When I dropped her off the shop was super clean, there were a couple of dogs there walking around beind the counter and the two ladies were really nice. I was told it would be 90 minutes to two hours but less than an hour later they called to say she was done. When I went to pick her up I was charged only $30 instead of $35 which was a bonus! She looked great and was happily hanging out behind the counter. Aother little note - my dog didn't smell too perfumey when I got her - just a nice natural smelling minty kind of scent - maybe a little like Eucalyptus. Her dry skin has gotten much better and a week later she still has that nice natural minty smell on her. I highly recommend the Dog Romm for your grooming needs! I will be going back! read more

I have been taking my two fur babies to The Dog Room for a few years now, and have finally decided they deserve a review. Yuri, the current shop owner is fabulous with the dogs. She always grooms to my specific likings, even if it is not the "usual" way for my breed. She pays attention to detail and is very gentle. I have watched the other groomers at times as well and have seen their work too. Again, very nice! I love that we get a bandanna every time. The shop uses great products and my dogs always look and smell fabulous!! What I love most about this place is that it is a CAGE FREE GROOM!!!!! Your dog will not sit there for hours waiting for you to come pick them up like Petsmart does and she's half the price. I highly recommend this place to anybody who is looking to take their special pets to be groomed!!! read more

We adopted our puppy back in May and have taken him to The Dog Room several times now. The staff there is very friendly with us and they're great with Spock. He seems to be quite comfortable in the cage-free environment and loves the staff there. Spock has looked great after each visit - the staff leaves him looking exactly the way we want him. They're great at listening to what their customers want and taking good care of our little puppy. It's a clean, friendly, and professional place that does not overcharge! We pay less than we would at somewhere like Petsmart and our dog gets personalized attention and isn't left waiting in a cage for hours. So sad I have been going there for years with all my dogs + recommended so many people. I had to cancel because I had an emergency at work. And they requested a $25 cancelation fee. The haircut is $45. So together that would be $70 for a little tiny Yorkie haircut? That's more then my own hair! CRAZY! Not to mention how rude and disrespectful they were about it. Completely NOT understanding at all. I have had about enough! I have been going there for over 15 years and that's how they treat a returning customer. Unbelievable I went to Petco for the same price plus got a free teeth cleaning no problem, super nice, and no cancellation fees! People work and have families things always come up! read more

This was a first cut of my male standard poodle by Yuri, the current owner. Indy hadn't been groomed for quite awhile and looked like a yeti. He now looks the best he ever has!
