Normally, I have decent experiences in this store, but my most recent grooming experience was horrendous. I took my dog to get groomed and was told that she was too nervous and kept pooping so they had to stop grooming her. She discounted the price from $50 to $43. She told me to come back the next day to finish the job. I called the next day and was told to come back. The groomer complained that she was wet (it was raining outside) and said she couldn't cut her hair wet. I responded that I'd pay extra for her to dry her. She said she didn't want to try her because the dog would get too upset. I offered to take her home and dry her myself, and bring her back. She said that she only allotted enough time to cut her hair. I expressed my disappointment and mentioned that I'd just bought and given my dog some all-natural relaxing supplement so that she wouldn't be so nervous. The groomer responded that she can't work on dogs that are sedated because it is against Petco rules & they're very strict. I said that I'd just talked to a Petco associate and told her that I planned on giving the dog the supplement for the purpose of calming her during grooming and she said it was okay. The groomer once again contradicted me. Another groomer, overhearing the conversation, interjected that she thought it was okay as long as it wasn't a medication from the vet. Long story short - I cancelled an appointment this morning so I could bring my dog back to be groomed because she couldn't deal with a dog pooping (isn't that what they do?). I got turned away again and now have to go back on a Sunday morning to get done what should have been done yesterday when I first brought her to be groomed. Bottom line - After Sunday, I will never go back to Petco for grooming again, despite my having gone there for years & despite past positive experiences. This one was bad enough for me to stay away forever. read more

It's a Petco, so what do you really expect? They have the selection of food, toys and other pet supplies that I need, when I need them, and even though their prices aren't the best, they are always fully stocked, so I guess I'm paying more for the convenience than anything else. I generally try to support local pet stores when at all possible, and often find their prices are better or the same as Petco anyways. I wouldn't ever have my pets groomed there or use any of their vet services, but for the basic food and supplies when you have a busy schedule, this Petco is fine. The staff has always been pretty nice and at some points actually quite helpful, and I've never thought the store was dirty at all. read more

This store is disgusting :-( Whoa, what a dissapointment, it smelled and looked horrendous. This must be the oldest Petco in the Country. The store manager by the name of Angela was short tempered, not friendly and did not help me with my purchase of a Ferret for my college bound daughter. While there I heard a grooming customer storm out of the store because her dog was upset and throwing up. The Ferret was nice but I had to return it as the vet said it was sick. The last 2 times I purchased dog treats 1 time from the treat bar and then today a prepackaged set of treats BOTH had silk worms in them. I called last week to let Petco know tried buying prepackaged same thing. Months ago I purchased a bag of Merrick dog food that also had silk worms. I brought the bag back to Petco and contacted Merrick. I'm all set with any food or treats from here. read more

When it comes to stores like petco (which is basically a walmart for animals) -- I feel like you can't expect too much. You usually have teenagers working or people who pretend they know a lot about animals. Now i am not complaining about this one, just petcos in general. I had a fine experience here, I got my dog vaccinated and all the employees seemed very friendly. The store was pretty clean, except for where a dog went pee -- but they were cleaning it up. I came to this petco looking for chinchilla sand bath and they were out of stock. I briefly noticed they had 20-30 mice all piled into one cage. As I looked closer a mouse was eating the brains of another dead mouse. I notified the staff and all they did was remove the dead mouse, and walked away. I mean wtf? No one apologized or said a damn thing to me afterwards, it was pretty traumatic to say the least. I wonder what really goes on behind the scenes if their employees are this negligent on a daily basis. Hire people who actually give a shit about the animals theyre selling. read more

When I asked for advice on antibacterial for my cat's open wound, not only did I get directed to the wrong product, it was actually something that could HURT my cat! The service was friendly enough and I'm sure that they meant well, but I learned my lesson about taking advice from anyone other than a trained professional. read more

We bring our standard poodle to Petco in Peabody for his grooming. He absolutely LOVES going there, and he always comes home looking amazing - never have had a disappointing result. They send home a report on what they did and what needed special attention. They never forget to use unscented products on him (we have allergies). Yesterday, he came home wearing an adorable Star Wars bandana. I wish I could attach a photo. We highly recommend the grooming department at Petco in Peabody. A great group of caring people who really love what they do. read more

Petco claims they price match their competitors. Apparently that's only if the cashier feels like doing so. Bought my dogs food and asked to price match, she said "ya can't do that" because the price I had found was for a case of food not per can. I've price matched this same food at a different petco no problem they just divided the cost of the case by 12 to figure out how much one can was. She could tell I was annoyed and asked how much of a difference it was only after she put my credit card through. read more

This review is mainly for the grooming salon as the store is just your average PetCo. My little Moose dog is scared of many things, the groomer being one of them. All of the staff is so friendly and welcoming and seem like they truly care about my poor little guy. The lady that usually check us in (wish I could remember her name... short hair/older) always greets Moose by name and is SO friendly. Grooming takes a couple hours but it is always worth it because he comes out looking (and smelling) great! After getting a hair cut he always gets so many compliments! We will be back when we need another haircut. read more

This Petco had unknowledgeable staff. I went in to buy a betta fish and came out appalled. Most if not all of their betta fish looked unhealthy and some of them were dead. I would suggest going to a different Petco! read more

I have been bringing my adorable toy poodle to Petco in Peabody to be groomed for quite some time. Shelly does a great job on Teddy. She always makes him look so cute! Sometimes she puts a bandana on him so he looks festive! Shelly is a wonderful groomer! She is always happy to see Teddy. read more

The groomer Vanessa takes great care of our older dog, and he always comes back home looking and smelling great! I would recommend this Petco to anyone who needs their dog groomed. They also have a clean store and friendly workers, so it never seems like a chore to go there. read more

My cat DIED after a visit to their Vetco clinic. I got my cat vaccinated for rabies and feline leukemia at this Vetco location yesterday and she had a reaction 15 minutes later, suffered for 30 minutes as I rushed her to the animal hospital, and then died a terrible a death before we arrived. She's gone to Vetco every year and has never had a reaction before!!! I called Vetco customer service to report a complaint and try to get more information about the Veterinarian that worked there but they wouldn't give his name!! They also wouldn't give me the lot numbers or expiration dates of vaccinations because they claimed they didn't have them. I also didn't receive a refund (which I don't care about that because I want my cat back! Not my money back). I told them to put my cats death on record in their data base just in case it's a pattern but I doubt they did! They said they needed proof of death! That's why I am posting here. I don't want this to happen to other pets. Please think twice and pay the extra hundred dollars and go to veterinary office. It's not worth your cat or dogs life. read more

The first couple times, the grooming was great. I had been bringing my dog there for over a year. Now, I will never return. The staff they have working there now does not take off her harness / wash under her harness. It felt like greasy hair that still had shampoo in it. Benefit for the doubt I brought her back again and the same thing happened. Tried to call to ask about it and no one answered. Giving Petsmart a try, let's see what happens. read more

Went to get a rabies shot for my dog this past weekend. I realize that Vetco is an inexpensive alternative to a private veterinary practice, no frills. However I have never encountered a veterinarian who seemed so uncaring. I don't even think he likes animals. The poor personnel there were dealing with computer problems, it took almost an hour to get paperwork so we could check out and pay. read more

A recent trip to this Petco location bumps the store up a star. All my previous gripes about location, parking, and frequent register holdups still apply, though after being here numerous times at this point, I may have to take back my assessment of the slightly depressing atmosphere, as it does seem brighter and cleaner now. Anyhow, the real reason for this update is for the very, very helpful employee (whose name I unfortunately can't remember, because she is one of those people who deserves public recognition) who spent probably a solid 20-30 minutes with my partner and me discussing our cat's piddling problems, the remedies we've already tried, and other possible solutions. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the products and about cats in general, and in no way tried to pressure us into expensive litter boxes or litter that must be made of gold for the price it demands. In fact, after all our discussion, we decided to just go with the regular old Petco brand litter that you scoop yourself out of the giant bin and it has been working very well. called for appointment to groom my dog .she say its ok u can come now .so I drove 45 min to get there .when I get there she ask me for the shot history and she told me about that in the phone to bring it with me and thair policy that they cant accept any dog without this papers . I went to petco HOPING to get a betta fish. But they are extremely overpriced. Also, I was getting a $4 betta fish when they said it was really $14 because they had the wrong name on the side of the little container he was in, and they said we had to look on the top. We should've gotten it for $4. When we asked the man why, he said they ran out of bottoms so they had to put a random one there. STUPID. Also (not kidding) the man stunk, bad. Go to petsmart, they are way cheaper and nicer, and they don't smell bad. read more

I went to Petco because I wanted to get my dog vaccinated for rabies. First we went to another Petco location, I called before hand and was told that the vaccines would be administered between 5-7. We arrived at 6:00 only to find the people administering the vaccines had packed up and left. I was told no it was from 5:00 to 6:00 but I distinctly remember her saying 5-7 because I thought wow that's kind of late but it works for me. So she tells me I can go to the Peabody store they do vaccinations every Sunday from 2-4. I showed up promptly at 2:00, there was a line of about 35 people and we waited, till 2:30, overheard one of the sales people saying that the techs were running late and would not be there for another half hour. At no point in time did the manager of the store make an announcement to the customers that the tech would be late. The animals were clearly distressed and having accidents all over the place. an hour and a half is a long time for a dog to wait in line. Well the techs showed up at 3:45 then took another half hour to set up. Still no announcement made by manager. At this point I thought OK line should start moving quickly...... no such luck they took about 15 minutes with each person. So you do the math. There were about 35 people ahead of me. I was thinking I'd be lucky to have my dogs vaccinated by 6:00. I had already invested 2 hours of my day waiting in line. My little daughter was beside herself not to mention my dog. At that point I just walked out. The worst customer service. The staff had no answers. The techs took their time with no concern for how late they were. Supposedly they were held up at another store in Woburn. If that is the case then Petco should dedicate the techs to each store for 4 hours instead of two. If the business is there they need to up their game. They also could have issued numbers like the deli does and told people to come back instead of distressing the animals, not to mention throwing a monkey wrench into it's patrons days. Many people had to go grocery shopping, to work or had to pick up children. The staff avoided the 50-60 people in line like the plague and I couldn't help but think who is at the helm of this ship???? They didn't keep the customer informed and they dropped the ball. Went here for puppy training class. Charlotte was terribke. 1. I taught my dog sit and down before going to class. This is all she taught us in 3 classes. My dog knew that coming in. It is a chat hour for this elderly woman. It is advertised as positive training but ahe knees the dogs when they jump at her. Ahe has terrible cjstomer interaction. She bickered back and forth with ine customer. They were joking sarcastically and then she told him he was getting kn her nerves even though she instigated him. We tried to get our money back the store said she was very accomadating and was surprised. So accomidating she let others join the class over half way through and we started over. They dod give us a private lesson to keep us there but again we learned nothing. Avoid like the plauge. This is not positive dog training and we wasted our money. I brought my 6 year old cat to be groomed there today because she is a long haired Maine Coon cat and had feces stuck to her back end in her fur. My boyfriend and I tried to clean her that was not a pretty picture she is 17 lbs and bites as well as the scratching. We adopted her a couple of months ago and her hair was shorter they must have shaved her due to this same reason. Soooo any way I spoke to the woman on the phone and explained the whole thing to the girl, the biting and the feces due to loose stools etc. she said no problem. We dropped her off they said 1-3 hours depending if she needed a bath they said they would call.........20 minutes later they called and said she had loose stools, she must have an upset tummy and to bring her back when she felt better. Well she is a cat and just rode in the car that she did not like and yes I told her she had loose stools that was why she was there to be cleaned..When we picked her up her collar was off and she hap feces all over her back side. We were crazy calling every place around to help.We found the vet on the hill across the street from petco and thank heaven he could at least muzzle her so they could help clean her and shave out some of the feces. We still ahve to haver her properly and thoroughly groomed but at leat she feels and smells a little better. Bottom line I will never take my dog or cat back there and what was suppose to be a simple paid service ended up being a stressful day for us and my cat. read more
