I've been taking my dog to Petco for grooming for about 2 1/2 years. After having a great experience at the Northridge location, I returned to the Porter Ranch Petco once that store closed, and this will be my last visit. The groomers here don't seem interested in connecting with the dogs they care for. My dog was visibly anxious, and instead of helping to calm her, the groomer completely ignored her. Against my better judgment, I left her there anyway. When I came to pick her up, the process was a mess. I waited around ten minutes with no one available to bring out my dog. The cashier couldn't leave her post, asked me to find a manager, and I wandered the store before anyone helped. Throughout the entire situation, no one apologized or took responsibility. First off, both my sister-in-laws took my dog to this location for grooming, and we specifically requested just a small trim. Instead, he came out completely shaved, looking bald, and far from clean or fresh. The service cost $120, which was absolutely not worth it. To make matters worse, my dog was being choked during the grooming process -- which is completely unacceptable. I brought her in for her ears I paid the $60 something dollars for them them to check it, I pay 70 something dollars for the ear medicine, then I bring her back in a week and had to pay another $60 for them to see if the ear infection was gone and it wasn't all the way gone so they wanted me to pay another $79 for another weeks worth of medicine. Second, the last two times I've brought her there, there were violent dogs they could barely control, so they told me to take my dog and hide around the corner, and never even came to tell me it was ok to come back. If I am paying a lot of money for my dog, I definitely don't want to have to hide her in the store while you tend to the other dog. Anyways I'm done, time to find some other place. I still dislike that many fish are stored in cups and I think this should be illegal, but at least the cups have clean water. 2. The aquatic plants here are healthy, bright, and in clean water. I've never felt the need to review a Petco until now. I've been to several locations around the valley, and while they're not amazing, they were never bad enough to complain--until I visited the Porter Ranch location. The moment I walked in, I was hit with a foul smell--not the usual pet store scent. This was strong and unpleasant, like something had gone bad in a fridge. It lingered throughout the store. As I tried browsing for toys or clothes for my dog, I noticed the whole place was disorganized. Nothing had clear prices, and I had to download their app just to find out what items cost. On top of that, everything was way overpriced--Amazon had better options for less. Still, I was willing to pay more for convenience... until I asked to use the restroom. The staff up front were rude and completely indifferent, just handing me the key with zero effort or care. Once I opened the bathroom door, I was shocked: cockroaches--dead and alive--on the floor, a toilet that looked like it hadn't been flushed or cleaned in ages, mold and rust on the urinals, and an odor worse than a porta-potty. I couldn't even bring myself to use it. When I told the cashier about the cockroaches, she just laughed and said, "Haha, yeah ok." No concern. No apology. Nothing. To make matters worse, I noticed neglected animals in dirty tanks--underfed fish, mice, and guinea pigs crammed in small enclosures with little to no food or water. As someone who's owned nearly every type of pet Petco sells, I can tell these animals were not healthy or well cared for. This review is for Vetco Total Care. This year I have become a cat daddy. This was my very first kitten. Since it was a stray abandoned from its litter I wanted to ensure the kitten's health is well. Although I went to a different Vetco for my kitten's initial shots, I came to this location's Vetco to inquire about spaying. I am not sure if it was bad timing but I've had a difficult time find a spay/neuter facility that was accepting new animals. I reached out to many different places and resulted to no avail. My last resort was to go to Vetco and I honestly did not want to go this route as it was going to be a pricey one. But I did. I felt that my kitten should be taken care of before it goes into its first heat cycle. (not sure if this is really an issue or not) I made my appointment online with ease. Shortly after I received a call from the location and set up two appointments. First was for preop and the other was for the actual operation date. It amazed me how much further into the year we had to schedule but as I mentioned earlier, I wanted to take care of it prior to the kitten's first heat cycle. All the staff that I have met were nice and clear about any information or updates on my cat. We completed the preop and all that was left was the operation date. What I didn't like about the operation date is they set me up for an early time. There was no one at Vetco to greet me at the door as it was locked. I did see some Petco employees walking into the store but the store doesn't open for another 2 hours. So what do I do? While while waiting outside. I watched employees walk in. Asked about getting attended as I had an appointment. Called a couple of times but no one was available to receive my call. Then finally a Vetco employee walked up and asked if I had an appointment. From there I was attended to and made the kitty drop off. Later in the afternoon I came to pick up my cat and had some instructions to follow. My fiancée and I stopped by here after shopping at Walmart next door because she wanted to get some dog treats for her dog. I was more intrigued with looking at the animals. I saw some guinea pig, Fish, gecko, snakes, spiders and etc. The store is going through a remodel so some stuff might not be at the right place. I had a good time looking at all the animals that was out. The downside is that they only had 1 checkout aisle open, they don't have self checkout. My first recommendation- Do not ever go to Petco in Porter Ranch on a Friday evening because this is my second time with bad experience going on a Friday evening (since I work full time- no availability on weekdays). I was trying to exchange a fish tank I had purchased about 1.5 week ago from Petco (with receipt). There was a small chip on the tank. Since I work full time, I haven't had a chance to exchange this, and when I finally was able to go to the store, a gentleman named Juan, tried to help me at check out. First off, Dominos pizza came to deliver and he left the front with no associate to put the food in the back. This took a good amount of time while there were customers waiting at checkout. Pizza was the priority in this case. I was requesting for the same tank for even exchange (same item) with receipt, due to damage - chip on glass. He would not let me do an even exchange and started raising his voice, while there were customers in the back. I felt belittle, disrespected while Juan was very unprofessional. I had use some vital care coupons from the previous purchase; and he mentioned I will lose that credit, and have to fork out the difference. I told him I was going to the Northridge location since I disagree that we can't do an even exchange for the same tank when the tank was damage that was purchased 1.5 week ago (same month- July) with receipt. I drove to Northridge and was helped by Daisy. Told her exactly what the exchange was for with receipt, without hesitation, she helped exchange the aquarium. I purchased frontline medication for my cat. In the store it's $70. If you buy it online to pick up at the store, it's $30. This isn't a warehouse issue, as they're not shipping it. It's already in stock. This isn't a shipping issue, since you are picking it up directly from the store, but ordering it ahead of time. I had a grooming appointment today at 10:45am with Allie B and unfortunately ran into an issue leaving the house. Immediately when I noticed that I was going to be late I called the store to let them know I was going to be late. Whomever I spoke with on the phone (because they only answer "Grooming") sounded frustrated, but hey, life happens and at least I had the audacity to call and not just show up unannounced. She told me that they had a "very strict 15 min policy" and "if I was even 1 min past 11am I would not be accepted for my appointment and would need to be rescheduled". I told her I was on the way and would be there right at 11. Mind you, in all of their pre-check in paperwork and everything else, there is nothing mentioned of a 'strict 15 minute policy', but nevertheless, it was absolutely not my intention to be late in the first place, I do everything in my power to be respectful of anyone's time, but I think if you're going to have a policy it should probably be mentioned, beforehand. Anyhow, of course, I was in the parking lot but I had speed bumps to go over, a man crossing in front of me, a parking space to find, my dog to put on a leash and then, nature to run its course and my dog had to relieve himself on the way in and it was 11:03 when I arrived at the grooming counter. Allie B could see me walkup be refused to come out from the back and the three girls stocking the isle right next to me refused to acknowledge that I was standing there with my dog for over 6 minutes until I asked for someone to get me someone to speak with. How does it take over 5 minutes for a customer to have to call attention to their own presence to three people working right next to them? Absolutely mind blowing and TERRIBLE customer service! So, I finally get the attention of someone, Noiz is her name, and she doesn't get Allie to come out, instead Noiz goes behind the door, makes me feel like she's speaking about me. She comes back out and tells me Allie won't be seeing my pet today and there is nothing that can be done about it. I try to explain myself and how I was in the parking lot, the speedbumps, the man, the dog relieving himself, even offered to take the poop out of the trash can to prove it to her, she was absolutely unrealistic and rude, closed off and unfriendly in anyway. I asked to speak to a manager, just someone that was willing to make me feel heard and understand the situation, calm me down make me feel like they cared, and she replied, "I am the manager." We are just finding out that our neighborhood Pet-Co which I took my dog there few times a year in last 10 years DOES NOT do grooming on dogs who are on medication. Not only this place was notified last year for my dog's medication, but didn't give us heads up when we made the appointment last week. I could have taken my dog to somewhere else. Honestly VERY DISAPPOINTED in management. Employees were trying to help but manager didn't approve, even after I said I would sign a liability waiver. Most dogs go on medication a few times a year. What a ludicrous rule that is. I already made an appointment somewhere else and will take my business there from now in but MIGHT WANNA THINK TWICE TAKING YOUR BUSINESS HERE AGAIN. read more

Bought my kids a new Beta fish for quarantine. The poor fish looked lonely so I wanted to add some shrimp and some sea snails. The guy in the fish department was so knowledgeable and friendly. He recommended not getting the shrimp that day because they were just brought in and can go into shock. He told us to wait a day to see if they make it through the night before purchasing them and losing them. Every time we have been in the staff has been helpful and patient answering all my kids questions. read more

DO NOT USE THE VET they charged me $48.51 for something sold for $15 at Chewy.com and other pet store. I spoke to the manager and he said sorry we don't look around to see what others charge. They know how much they bought it for. The fecal test was $60 my vet who isn't open on Sat charges $38. They PRICE GOUGE here, I felt guilted into buying it even though I said I didn't want the meds. I as made to feel like I wasn't "taking care of" my pet. read more

Unfortunately the staff was dishonest about what was offered. Stating we declined things that were not offered to us. Stating we had to pay another visit fee if we wanted to get the tests done now. I spoke with Dr. Landa who was rude and seemed very cold and uncaring and was not answering my questions. I spoke with the manager and he said it's a he said she said situation and if I don't trust them then I shouldn't come back. I would not trust them with my pets health. read more
