My dogs do not need much, so I never worry about cutting, etc. However, every time I called to book an appointment, NO ONE ever answers.... EVER. I am now looking for a new groomer for the simple fact that I cannot get anyone to answer the phone! On top of that, I try to book online, nope...... Weeks before you can get them in.... Grooming appointment set at 1:30 for a 8 lb short hair Chihuahua and after waiting until 3:40, I call the store and no answer. I show up unannounced at 4 only for them to say please give 20 more minutes. I asked why was it taking so long when over the years the most the service had ever taken was an hour and a half and only because they were busy. I went because I had another appointment at 430. Every groomer has always said, it takes them 30 min to groom my dog. Well this time the girl at the front said, well you didn't pay for the vip service. I said I've never heard of it nor was it ever offered to me before. She said that unless I pay extra even if I have an appointment they will book and take other dogs ahead of mine so that's why it takes longer. I said I've been bringing my dog to this store for many years and have never heard of it. No where on the store or booking online does it say anything about paying extra for having the basic service done. I wouldn't have minded the delay if full disclosure was given. Customers book appointments because they have other things going on. I think it's beyond bad customer service not to fully disclose or announce having to pay extra just to get the pet groomed in less than 4 hours. They even had the audacity to ask for a tip. The store is really huge, one of the biggest Petco's I've visited besides the one in Culver City. Very friendly staff and very informative, a huge plus. She usually hates the vet but she was wagging her tail and felt really comfortable in there care. The past 3 appointments have been a NIGHTMARE. They took 5 hours to groom my dog AGAIN! It's been multiple times they've cut him or burned him with blades (because they don't swap the hot blades UNLESS YOU TELL THEM) and they don't even say sorry, they just go onto blame the dog or make up some excuse. I had an appointment at 1:30 & my dog wasn't even ready until 5:30!!! I saw another woman walk out with the same style dog and I asked her when her appointment was, she said 2pm! That dog had a longer haircut! My dog was getting a summer buzz cut!! Shouldn't be long... BRETT said he didn't start on him right away because he was going to lunch. LIKE WHAT?!?! We had an appointment!!! Our dog was just sitting there locked in a kennel for an hour just waiting?! I said: There were 3 other groomers on site, they can't have someone else give him a bath and dry him so that when he came back, he'd be ready for his BUZZ CUT? He had nothing to say. Instead he said my dog also took long because he was scared of the blow dryer. A LIE. This was the first time I've ever heard a groomer say that about my dog whose been getting groomed since a pup. Not to mention that his Petco grooming "report cards" have ALWAYS said he's calm and relaxed but NEVER have we been told that the blow dryer was an issue. I asked them to tell me their procedures and how many dogs they take, they said 2-3. They never used to take this long so what changed?! Brett told me that if your dog doesn't like a certain service, they stop, and put them in the kennel while the "prioritize the other dogs". They put my dog HALF WET BACK INTO THE KENNEL while they finished all the other dogs, like it was a punishment. Stay away from BRETT working on your dog unless you don't mind animal cruelty.... I expressed how upset I was with this service & his cut and I didn't feel like this was even worth $90, Brett then goes to say he can't do anything and he'll have the other girl ring me up!!! And he was the "MANAGER"?! no way. They wouldn't even have jobs if it weren't for people coming back to take their dogs here!!! Worse possible place I've ever experienced for my poor dog... petco's own Vetco clears out senior dog who has arthritis to get a full grooming and this idiot of technician who supposedly is trying to shave him continues to ignore he's having difficulty standing to the point his weight was in his neck... after knocking on the window multiple times to get their attention, another tech comes out. We told the tech he has arthritis and to try to make him at least a bit comfortable and the next thing u hear is that because he's on "heavy meds" they cannot help him.... Bought my kids a new Beta fish for quarantine. The poor fish looked lonely so I wanted to add some shrimp and some sea snails. The guy in the fish department was so knowledgeable and friendly. He recommended not getting the shrimp that day because they were just brought in and can go into shock. He told us to wait a day to see if they make it through the night before purchasing them and losing them. I highly recommend not coming to Petco for grooming. The receptionist last week calls to confirm my appointment the day before and then calls ten mins before my appointment and cancels. She then starts asking when I could come in, every single day I offered she said no to. LMAOOO. Then proceeds to say oh wait jk come in. So i start driving back and then when I come its past my grace period. Okay but you told me to drive back and forth which of course takes time and would pass my grace period. The associates are helpful-I saw an associate helping a man get something off the hangers while trying to control 2 huskies. I knew what I wanted and did not have to ask any questions, but I did see a lot of other customers being helped by employees. I live so close to this Petco store and have been taking my elderly dog for grooming there for many years. The last visit I was called to be told to come and pick my dog up because they do not feel comfortable working on him. I asked why and the answer was that he is too old. So I came to picked up my un groomed dog after waiting for over a month to go to this appointment. After I was able to secure an appointment with local porter ranch grooming and had a wonderful experience. I was told that my dog did just fine and that they would love to have him back. I experienced a real lack of professionalism at this location. I had booked a grooming appointment on Saturday with my dog in the store. My dog was wearing a muzzle when I booked the appointment. On Wednesday I bring my dog to his appointment and am greeted with a rude attitude by the grooming dept. The man working says something along the lines of "Why does he have a muzzle, he needs to leaves, didn't you read the policy." I understand that Petco has a muzzle policy. If I could give this place zero stars, I would! Our dog, Rocket, has been getting groomed here for NINE YEARS. We've always had the best feedback from groomers for him and he even gets card compliments from previous groomers that he's the best and that everybody loves him. Our dog was always excited to go there and always "smiled" at all the groomers, jumping with excitement. His previous groomers Joanna and Kylie were the best but unfortunately they left. MARIA became our dog's groomer and he started having issues with his nails and she complained that she can't cut then. So, to make HER JOB easier, we started having our dog's nails trimmed with the vet and not the groomers. Now, without even TRYING she and ALL THE GROOMERS are saying they have a problem with grooming his LEGS. Such BS from LAZY people! That's what you call zero customer service and ZERO CARE FOR DOGS. I had a poor experience at this location. I had 2 appointments for my dog's grooming. We kept receiving messages to confirm the appointments which we did. The morning of the appointmenta, we get an e-Mail saying both appointments were cancelled with no reason given. When I called to get more information... I was told the groomer had called out sick. I left my information to get a call back from the next groomer and that never happened. I then called to speak to a Manager and I was told the groomer no longer worked there. So, why did they not keep my appointments with someone else (After all, I had made the appointments weeks ago). There is a lack of communication and the customer had to pay the price for that. You know I really love any kind of pet store because I really love the animals...dogs, cats, bunnies, all types of little critters. But the truth is Petco is not my favorite store. My first complaint is that Petco is more expensive than most pet stores. I know the quality is high and sometimes higher than other stores but for example you can find the same exact toys at Petsmart for cheaper. And the truth is what do majority of most dogs do with pet toys, they rip them up, kill them dead, they're gone in a few days if you're lucky! So who wants to pay the extra few dollars for a toy they may not last very long, definitely not me! However that is not my problem with this Petco. My first problem is that most of the employees are not so great in the customer service department. Some of them are decent, but not very willing to help or go the extra mile to find the products that you need. A lot of them employees and managers are not knowledge about policies, products or sure about much of anything. When I asked him questions about items that might go on sale, instead of trying to find the answer for me they answered with a lot I don't know and said I guess, making a guess of what they thought. Instead of saying let me find out for you, which I think would've been the more appropriate answer. This happened on several occasions when I asked about certain items going on sale or the return policies. My second problem was not only were the employees all over the place and didn't have a consistent answer but over five different Petco gave me a different answer on the return policy. However this is only Petco where the manager make their own policies. Have you ever heard of such things? Petco has a 60 day policy for returning items with the receipt. I thought this may not apply for sale items, but after calling five different other Petco's they all were willing to take back sales or clearance items as long as you have the receipt within that time period. However the manager here named Gonzales was not willing to return any clearance items. It seems odd that a manager at certain Petco's can make the policies up as he wants or sees fit. First, the store called to tell me that the stylist called in sick and reschedule my appointment. I expressed my disappointment as for client, the policy stated that client had to cancel at least 24 hours in advance while the store called and canceled my appointment just a few hours before my appointment. Then, yesterday, when I dropped off my dog for the bath and haircut, The stylist kept telling me that if they couldn't detangle her hair (she did have knots at a few places), then they had to cut her hair short. I told them I prefer to keep her hair long if that was possible. When I picked up my dog, she looked so ugly. My daughter cried all the way home! When we were waiting for our dog to come out, there was a Poodle dog came for a haircut. Again, the receptionist kept telling the owner that they will cut the hair short (#8 or so on the sample chart, the one that is next to the shortest length) even the owner kept telling the receptionist that she wanted to keep the hair length at #5. I do hope that owner was not disappointed like we did. It seemed to me cutting the hair short is the only thing that the stylist at that location knows how to do. Lastly, we had to pay in advance before we could see how the work was done on our dog. If the service was good, the store should not be afraid that the customer would not pay for the service! read more

The vet was extremely friendly and informative, as was the wonderful lady who checked us in. The staff of the store were extremely helpful and lovely to interact with. Love this location! Dogs, Cats, Birds, Reptiles, Fish, Hampsters, they have an endless supply of goodies for almost all domestic pets. The staff here rocks, I can always count on them to help out with my pets needs. Petco price matches, which is really nice. Show them the item number and price on your phone and they will lower the price. There's a big huge parking lot with plenty of space. Often times on the weekend they have an organized animal adoption with cats and dogs. It's pet friendly, you can bring your dog to the store on the leash. There's tons of kitty litter and they have a kitty litter pit for those who bring reusable containers and I believe it is sold by the pound. This location has a lot to offer, so definitely give them a try. read more

Concern: I purchase cat food twice a month at Porter Ranch pet co. The brand I purchase is Whole Hearted canned and occasionally Science Diet. Over the years cat food has moved increasingly towards the back of the store and the choices are limited. The cat food now is located literally in the back corner in a dimly lit area in the store. In order to get to the cat food you need to walk down numerous aisles. I understand that petco wants me to view all the other pets (birds, betas, lizards, guinea pigs) thinking I'll purchase these live animals as an impulse buy. I won't. A lot of people own cats in the United States (more cat owners than dog) Why does petco make it so difficult to purchase cat food? I feel the next time I go in cat food will be in the warehouse in the back and eventually be in the parking lot. Called ahead to make sure they had the prescription diet for my dog after trying a couple other stores/locations. (Prescription written by my regular vet.) Thankfully, they said they had it in stock! I told them I was on my way and asked if they could hold the items for me. Got to store within 10 minutes. To my surprise, I wasn't told that the store's vet would have to issue a "card" that would allow the cashier to ring my order. Neither was I told that the vet was going to be leaving for lunch! When I got there, I was told I could do nothing else but wait the half-hour for the vet to return! Period. End of story! I asked if they could see if the vet was on the premises so I can buy the food. Nope! The manager wouldn't even look for him/her. Ordering the food through Chewy or Amazon instead. This review is for the grooming department. I started taking my dog Riley to get groomed here about a year ago, and I have been pretty satisfied. The first groomer I saw was amazing, but she left the company to purse vet tech I think it was - so great for her! I have now been going to see Joeanna as recommended by an employee there. She is the grooming manager. She's wonderful!! She always greets Riley when we come, and she kneels down to him to give him love and make him feel comfortable. Not like other places that just drag your dog into the back without giving them time to adapt and relax. I have taken Riley to other "mom and pop" groomers in Porter Ranch/Granada Hills, but it's not worth it! They're all overpriced, and their grooming skills aren't any different. (Those places give you a bandana on your dog - big deal) Petco is much more affordable, and if you find the right groomer, it'll be an enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. Last month, I took Riley as a walk in just to get his nails trimmed. It was a weekend, so Joeanna was not there. I could see Riley from the distance through the window. He was squirming and not sitting still. I felt bad for the young man because I don't think Riley had enough time to adapt to the environment, and there were a lot of dogs barking in the back. He should have called someone to help him hold Riley. Instead, he left Riley with his nails uneven and some not cut. I only deduct one star because perhaps the young man could have called for help from the beginning or helped to relax Riley before beginning the nail trimming. Luckily, I was able to get my money back because he was not able to finish the job. In comparison, Joeanna has told me that she has had no problem clipping Riley's nails. This review is for Petco grooming, Christina. She is energetic, but definitely needs more training and experience in pet grooming. Some parts of my dogs' body were still wet and his underneat coat was not blushed at all. I didn't realize that when I receive my dog, so I have to dry and brush my dog thouroughly myself. I was tired that day, that is why I went to the grooming for a pet bath; but I ended up doing it myself. Very frustrated. Additionally, the face area is not very clean after the bath.... Also, I found a flea on my pet's fur. Great, found a flea right after the bath... Lastly, I've been a customer with Petco grooming for almost one year, and knew the bath charge for my pet.
