My cat has anxiety and we've been having issues with him and we decided to try some different things to help him. I called up Petco to ask if they had certain products I'd seen online and the lady that answered (Sarah) was very helpful and super friendly. We made our way to the store to go buy the products and actually ran into the same employee that had helped me on the phone. She went above and beyond helping us with our issue and identifying causes for the issue and recommended products with a lot of knowledge. She was extremely helpful and seemed genuinely concerned with helping us, very professional. Then we went to checkout and she helped us there too by signing us up for rewards and offering us coupons to help our cat family out. We are so grateful and surprised at the level of service she gave us. She needs a raise. read more

Excellent grooming experience with Michelle recently. She went above and beyond to teach me about my dogs oral hygiene and even went out into the store to educate me on a few products I am now trying for my dogs teeth. Anything I can do to avoid a huge vet bill for my dogs teeth is priceless! I highly recommend you have Michelle groom your dog! They don't deserve one star. On a trip from LA to Portland we stayed the night in Redding. Stupidly I forgot dog food for my aging lab. When we got to Redding, the town was getting ready for a parade of old cars. Parking was nearly impossible so after finding a place to park, I wasn't about to move. Luckily a Petco was only a half mile from the motel. I walked there and got there at 5:00 pm. On the door was a sign that said they were closing at 5:00 due to the parade. An employee was at the door and asked the store manager who was also at the door whether or not I could get some food for my starving dog. They were supposed to close at 9:00 pm but would not let me get any food. They said I could walk to a grocery store or to the PetSmart that was another mile up the road. I could not believe their POOR customer attitude. I walked to PetSmart. They were open and very pleasant. read more

Holy crap is this place horrible for grooming. They are completely setup for little toy dogs. Don't bother taking a larger breed here. I brought in my two huskies for the de-shed bath. There was a dog leashed up in the corner completely stressing out on every customer who walked in. Several small dog owners walked in and were helped right away. They gave me a small frayed rope to use as a leash on my 75lb high energy dog. I was forced to wait 15 minutes (before I left) outside in the sun with one of mine while the other waited in the car. After the third small dog walked in after me and was helped immediately I left. I was afraid they were going to be ready for us and we would be next. The place was filthy. The groomers gave the distinct impression they hated their job. Petco has lost me as a customer forever. They are not the only pet store in town. read more

I love tropical fish and this store is probably my favorite store in the Redding area. The stock (fish) are usually pretty healthy. Their policy is to refund or replace a fish if it dies...and they are very easy to deal with if that happens. (That's not true with one of the smaller fish shops in Redding). Also, I have found that the guy who runs the fish area is a wealth of knowledge, advice on food, plants, filters all very helpful. They are just good people to deal with and they make owning tropical fish easier because the staff patiently listen and help if they can. Sometimes it is hard to find the exact fish I am looking for, but this store has more healthy fish than any of the other ones I've shopped. read more

They had a complete supply of bird goodies. I wish they had an exotic bird groomer who could trim wings, beaks, and talons.

The store is clean, and they have some great cat food. We like to spoil our cat so that is important. The staff is nice, but sometimes hard to find unless you go to the front. I rarely see anything out of stock which is important when it comes to pet food. They have a much better selection than stores Walmart or Target. On the other hand they are a bit more expensive. I've taken our little yorkie dog Max to get groomed there 4 times now and have not been disappointed. They always do a fantastic job. He looks super adorable, the haircut is very precise and he smells great. They even put on a cute bandana on him and they gave him a goodie bag to take home. They clip his nails and express the anal gland which is also included in the price. The price is pretty competitive with other groomers. They also call as soon as he's done so I know when to go get him. read more

Kinda disappointed in the fish department, they sell 5.5 gallon tanks, but they don't have any hood/lights (even buying seperate) to choose from in that size. Second time I went in there I was searching for a submersible light, the only ones they had were ones with bubblers which made it more expensive, and a feature I didn't need. Third time I went in there I was looking for live betta food, every single package of all the bugs were dead & dried up, hooked on the rack. The reason I'm even giving them 4 stars is because I did buy my betta there, Petsmarts bettas looked ugly, sick and lethargic, a lot of them were dead and not taken off the shelf ..Petcos Bettas are beautiful, and healthier than any other pet store I've seen. read more

There is nothing wrong with the store just the Nylabone. I have a pit bull mix and , she loves to chew chew chew so I got her the Nylabone . Why would they make a bone so, that your dog's gums bleed. Kyle at Petco in Redding, CA was enthusiastically recommended as a dog trainer by someone I met at our local doggie park. My 8 month terrier, my teenage son, and I just finished 6 weeks of Adult Level 1 classes. Kyle does a great job explaining and demonstrating the traditional training techniques, but what I appreciated most was the modifications he made to those techniques when we were having problems; his tweaks were slight, but made a world of difference. When we started, my terrier was very excitable and pulled fearlessly even on a gentle leader. Now she can walk at a polite heel for a decent distance (with each practice we can go further without correction). And I can't thank Kyle enough for teaching us how to help my terrier calm down at home and on the trail. My terrier is very reactionary to other dogs, and Kyle taught us what do during those encounters. He also taught us some fun tricks (shake and lay down). Lastly, Kyle is very kind and it was obvious that he genuinely cares about our progress. My terrier LOVED him, and my teenage son thought the lessons were super worthwhile. read more

I would like to give a shout out to Andrea in the grooming section. Brought my German Shepherd in for a summer cut. Her advice was to add on the shedding package. Boy am I glad she suggested it. It took longer than expected as Lacy had so much undercoat. When I picked her up she looked awesome. She did a stellar job on shaving her, you couldn't see a bit of choppy cuts, like I've seen before. I will only use her for my dogs from this point forward. I sure hope Petco knows what a gem they have in their grooming department. As a matter of fact, all of the groomers are great... read more

We wanted Max, our Australian Sheppard to get a a bath & summer haircut. I called and spoke to Carol who was very professional and friendly and got us in within 1 day. She gave Max a great haircut which was no easy job as he has very thick fur and weighs about 100 lbs. I was very pleased with the pricing also. Made an appt for my dog and was told it would be an hour service. When I got there my dog was markedly agitated and stressed. The lady behind the counter was eating food and told me I needed to wait for the other attendant. They both seemed very miserable. When I arrived she was working on a black Shepard and was constantly reprimanding him, it was really negative. When I asked about the type of shampoo and the scent and if I could smell it the lady said sure as she slammed the gate and huffed off to get the shampoo. I'm sensitive to artificial scents so I can't have my dog smelling like a perfume bottle. I asked how long and she said two hours, which is not the time I was told when I made the appointment. When she went to put the tether around my dogs head he tried to jerk away from her. He loves people and has never behaved this way. I took this as a cue from him that something wasn't right here. The energy was very negative and stressful. I cancelled and will not be coming back for future dog baths. Which was going to be $32 for a basic bath. Way under impressed! read more

Love the staff. Found out they price match, so any deal I find online is matched!! It's saved me so much money on expensive cat food. My only complaint is they don't open until 9, so I can't run by after dropping the kids off at school. Otherwise great store. Avoid it on Sunday's though, that's when they do the vet clinic and it's usually busy and loud. read more

We went to PetCo to get supplies for our new puppy because of all of the positive reviews. The customer service was excellent. Unfortunately, they did not have much of a selection. The groomers at petco shaved our show dog when all we asked for was a bath. And when they shaved her they also cut off several teets, which got infected. A parakeet I bought from here died 2 days later. The staff tend to ignore you unless you approach them. I did not enjoy my time in this store at all. read more

I bought a StarMark treat ball a few months ago from the Chico PetCo, and my dog I both love it. However. it "melted," leaving the rubber tacky and falling apart, unsafe for the pooch and bad for the carpet. I went to the Redding PetCo (because I moved) to exchange it for another ball or different toy all together, depending on what advice they would give me. They refused to exchange the ball because I did not have the receipt and I bought it at a different PetCo. From now on I'll shop at PetSmart, they stand behind their product. read more
