Following multiple attempts to get someone from Petco to call me, their response to their utter negligence was to provide me with reward points. We subsequently reported this to our credit card company and the state agency that handles vets. This is not a safe place for pets to be treated and Petco's solution was coupons. Today I had a very frustrating experience with the grooming department at the Petco located at 9111 Metropolitan Ave. I originally had an 8:00 AM grooming appointment for my dog, Penelope, using my free grooming reward. Before the appointment I called the store and was told I could reschedule for 1:30 PM the same day. I was also told to bring my dog's vaccination records. Penelope receives care through Banfield inside Petco, so when I arrived I pulled up her vaccination records through the Banfield app. Once I got there, the staff suddenly claimed the records needed to show a specific expiration format, something that was never explained to me when I called. They contacted Banfield to send the records while I was there, but after waiting about 20 minutes into the appointment time, I was told my dog could not be seen at all. This was extremely frustrating because I followed the instructions they gave me and traveled to the store for an appointment that could have easily been avoided with clear communication. To make matters worse, the groomer PATAR claimed my dog had knots in her fur when I had already removed the mats myself before arriving specifically to avoid dematting charges. It felt like an unnecessary upsell attempt. I also spoke with the manager Bree, but the situation was not resolved. Overall this experience was a waste of time and showed poor communication and questionable grooming practices. If the documentation requirements had been clearly explained ahead of time, this situation would never have happened. read more

This store sucks. I ordered a new product and was provided one returned by someone else. The item was 176 dollars. I called the store and spoke with Steven who was completely and utterly useless and unwilling to help. Their customer support sucks too. They then asked me to carry the XL crate back to the store to exchange it - imagine a company trying to give you used goods then expecting you to return it and drive 40 minutes each way. Never again - use Chewy, besides Petco is closing 25 stores and will be bankrupt soon, so what goes around comes around. Don't waste your time with the cunty people who work here, they're useless, unmotivated individuals who can't perform the most basic customer service functions, not a good indicator for the rest of their professional lives. Incredibly people skills and great at multitasking. Gave great insight and asked great questions. Amazing level of concern and very polite. Great balance of charm and professionalism. The entire team at 9111 metropolitan has amazing chemistry and makes it a fun shopping experience. Hands down my new favorite location. Manager Daniel was also polite professional and patient as well. All petco are great experiences however this location at metropolitan 91-11 needs to be duplicated. I had an extremely disappointing experience at this Petco due to the behavior of the store manager, Daniel. I came in to return items over $150, purchased with Apple Pay. Per Petco's official policy, returns can be processed at any store using the original form of payment--including Apple Pay. When the cashier called Daniel for approval, he insisted I show a physical card, which doesn't apply to Apple Pay. I asked if he suspected fraud, and he actually smiled and said, "Yes." Trying to be cooperative, I offered to show my ID, as allowed under corporate policy when fraud is suspected. Still, he refused to proceed. I left, called Petco corporate to double-check, and they confirmed I was correct--the return could be processed with Apple Pay and without a physical card. I returned later that same day with this confirmation, but Daniel dismissed it, claimed "each store has its own policy" (but couldn't show it), and ultimately used a vague line from the website--"Petco can limit returns"--to deny the return altogether. I ended up going to the College Point location, where the manager was respectful, understood the policy, and processed the return in under 5 minutes. No issues whatsoever. The contrast was night and day. I did my due diligence, remained respectful, and tried to work with Daniel--but he was more interested in asserting power than helping a customer. Petco should seriously reevaluate who they place in management at this location. read more

There wasn't much information online regarding walk-ins and whenever we called we were stuck with a busy line so we decided to show up early in the morning for a nail trim for our dog Porter. (The elevator that leads to the grooming salon is on the right side of the store as you enter). We were assisted by Jenny and she did an amazing job squeezing us in while answering all the questions we had about nail trimming. She said you can still call ahead and check for availability even for a walk-in service. Overall the whole experience was seamless despite the difficulty we had before arriving at Petco (we called a handful of times the day before and day of and got no response). This location grooming service is open at 10:00 AM and nail trims cost $12.99. read more

They always have what I need when I visit and typically I find a sale on my cat litter. My cat always gets some Toy I find on sale whenever I visit (this time a loud chirping teddy bear bird toy (7.99) and a foil ball which was 99¢). Skip this place, they are so bad and I don't know what they do to the dogs since yesterday my puppies legs jumped and she is so nervous. I took my puppy yesterday at 5.45 pm for grooming. Before I went to the appointment I called them two times. I let them know I have a puppy if I could take her a bit earlier or if they would have extra person to help since she is a puppy. At 5.45 they said my puppy would be ready at 7.30 pm. It was also a girl who was helping the groomer to hold dogs and give haircut, when I took my puppy her shift was over and she left, the groomer was alone and I recorded my puppy how she was screaming while the girl just left. After two hours they brought my puppy back and they said we couldn't touch her face because she is moving. Ofcourse 4 months puppy move. You unprofessional people should have someone to hold and help since the groomer was alone. Never take your babies there they are horrible and my dog legs are jumping every a few mins. I had to scrub them at their sink. When I asked an employee to confirm what I was seeing were droppings ..he confirmed my suspicion. I was also was told that they've had a problem for years. The mice come out at night. So basically I've been putting my health and my pets health in danger for years. It's disgusting. I'm so happy this Petco opened up on Metropolitan Ave. There was no other pet place close to my home that offered dog training classes on the weekends. The prices for training classes are really reasonable. I believe we paid $110 for about 6 classes (I got this rate on a holiday special) so don't directly quote me on this. The classes were great and informative. My dogs learned the basics (lay down, stay, etc). My dog loves this place. The toys are a bit pricey but they always have deals at Petco. I recommend signing up for the rewards card because it helps out with purchases like crates, beds, and dog food. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. And, I've learned so much from Jessica (the adult dog training instructor). Another aspect that really makes this place great is the fact that they have free "Puppy Play Time" during the week. This is very helpful in the winter. I'm unable to take my dog to our local dog-park in the winter due to snow, rain, and just plain cold weather. This allows my dog to have indoor play time with other dogs. The grooming services are great here too! The other day my dog was fully groomed for $41! That's really reasonable and he always comes out smelling so good and he's always happy! The groomers are friendly and always ask me if I have any special requests. I plan on returning here and taking my dog for more training classes in the summer and for more grooming services. read more

On a soaked Tuesday morning at 9:00 am I walked in with my new dog to take a look around. Nobody addressed me with so much as a "hello" as all three young employees were preoccupied with a new parakeet, surrounding it as if they were about to mug the little fella. Eventually a sales assistant approached me to see if I needed help with anything. I was pricing Blue Buffalo kibble as my second Rhodesian Ridgeback eats like a hippopotamus but is as fit as a greyhound and almost as fast. It's odd that nobody knew of the breed, I realize its not a common breed but its a interesting type of dog with a more interesting history. Wagging Tails knew all about Ridgebacks. But the associate was very helpful, interested in offering suggestions and options to my current brand. I bought a few snacks and treats which will go mainly unused as I do not believe in rewarding good behavior with constant treats, I believe in constant love & positive reinforcement. I found it unfortunate that there were not many XXL doggie winter clothes available for purchase. As to a general account of other creatures Petco sells, they have an abundance of fish, birds, reptiles and more. There is no doubt the selection is large so if you include all of the needs that go along with the above said creatures, you have accounted for a minimum of a quarter of the store. Who buys lizards, SiameseFighting Fish and Guinea Pugs anymore? As I've stated before, I break the chain by not supporting chain businesses, but in this case if my other doggie supply stores ate out of stock or closed, I can see myself purchasing from Petco. read more

My first time at this location and I always try and go to a Petco to grab my cat food. It's a busy area but they have a small parking lot which is seperate for the other businesses in the area. Decent sized store and set up like most Petco's. Large aisles as well here. Decent sized fish selection as well, with Salt and Fresh water. Birds and reptiles are available here too. Generally speaking, this Petco's selection is alright. I am able to get most of my supplies. The issue is the staff. Perhaps it's lack of management available, but the staff there is constantly chatting with one another, or friends to the extent that lines build. Asking for help is like speaking to air. Cesar told me that he only does it from a Petco, and when I ask him if he could do it for me he said no, I would have to search myself. Nice petco! It just opened up and everything looked so clean. I gave it one less star because the treat bar is small in comparison to other petcos. My dogs have allergies so it gives me less to choose from that doesnt have peanuts or wheat. Big kuddos to them though because on sundays they are open till 9pm. Other locations close at 7pm. After having a horrific experience with another groomer resulting in my poor pup getting sick, I was understandably nervous when it came time for him to get his next haircut. We decided to give Petco's grooming services a try and I couldn't be happier with the results! We brought in photos of the cut that we were looking for and were very clear in communicating what we did and did not want. We dropped our little guy off hoping for the best. A couple of hours later, we received a phone call from our groomer, Joseph explaining that our god had some matting on his belly and by his ears. He assured us that this was nothing he couldn't handle and gave us a couple of options before allowing us to choose how we wanted to proceed. Before we knew it, we were on our way to pick him up and he looked fantastic! Not only was he looking very handsome, but he seemed very happy and stress free. The shorter cut around the ears having resulted from the matting ended up looking adorable, and we've decided that we actually prefer this cut for him! This is a review about their adult dog training. We were so lucky because we purchased the class when it was on sale for $60, it was 50% off. We did the adult level 1 training with Ashley. It's a 6 week class and they give you a certificate and some treats at the end. Ashley was so nice and patient with my dog. My dog learned a lot during this course! I'm definitely going to sign her up for level 2 with Ashley when it goes on sale again! Overall, the store is very clean, everything is very organized and the staff is nice! read more
