This was my first time visiting this location and I was impressed by the aquatics department. The fish tanks were clean and the water was very clear. Though not a large selection, what was there was very healthy. The sales associate who assisted me also provided great customer service. She spent time making general conversation and also sharing important information about the fish I purchased. I really appreciated her going the extra mile and bringing out a new shipment of a live aquarium plants so that I could look for a specific specimen. Though it wasn't there, I will definitely be back in the future to look for more. read more

I really hate leaving bad reviews but I absolutely hate the way they butchered my yorkies hair. I specifically asked the groomer Suriya not to cut the face or the length of the hair on his back only to trim his legs and belly! When I returned they had shaved my baby everywhere like a little chihuahua!! Why would you even cut a yorkie like that? He has patches where they nicked him and just a terrible job all around! Then had the nerve to ask for a tip!!! I'm so upset, not to mention when chopping all his facial hair they trimmed all his whiskers... Do not have your dog groomed here. I have been taking my miniature schnauzer here for more than two years. Our regular groomer moved but let me know things had changed. Today we show up for our confirmed appointment and they are all looking at the screen. Then they tell me he has heart murmur and they must have a written release from his vet now. They had that two years ago. Nothing has changed. He takes his meds and show up for regular health checks BUT here 's the thing: there is no notice of new policy on the website they are just using what has always been there. No email or call about this after his appointment was confirmed. I offered to have them send letter over on Monday. No response. The employees called the manager to the desk and explained we were regular customers and it's Saturday at the vet clinic "no exceptions" no common sense. This is probably a way to get more money by sending the dog over to the in house vet which is crazy if they are really are concerned about his health. His records are at his vet. Buy your merchandise there but don't take your dog now because your dog is not a piece of merchandise read more

The cat's here are clearly very well taken care of. Usually in stores like this cats and especially kittens are skittish and unfriendly, that's just how it is. But these cats were so un-phased by me; I was able to talk to them, pet them, and touch this one's paw quite a bit. They are clearly getting a lot of love and will probably be adopted soon because of their comfort :) Also it was very easy to get crickets and the staff were friendly. read more

When I asked for an updated at 11:30am, nothing was done. That is unacceptable when she was one of the first dogs there in the morning. Took my little dog for grooming and loved the customer service!! Everyone was friendly, the technicians helped each other, and they were super helpful letting you know what was needed and next steps. I've been to this location several different times before. A couple of different times to buy Hill Science Diet dry cat food. They were good about giving the lowest price (store price vs online). Today, we stopped by to refill the bucket with cat litter. I like that much better to reuse the bucket instead of creating additional waste. The staff has always been very helpful here. read more

Took our dog in for grooming before our trip to San Diego. Natalie did such a great job with her! Very professional and reasonably priced.

If you love your pet DON'T take them here!!!!. The examine rooms look like they have not been cleaned in a week there are huge globs of hair in the corners of the room. I took my puppy here for his first shots and waited in a filthy room for 35 min I decided I had enough. Smart mouth employees snickering as we left so unprofessional!!!The "so called doctor" was the same in professional non apologetic. No one cares about great service anymore. read more

I took my cat to the vet there and the vet area was closed for lunch... they have a cord so they don't want you to even sit there to wait for them. They were not very polite about my waiting there. The store was opened at this time so I don't see the harm in sitting to wait for a few min. Came to drop off my dog to get groomed for a noon appointment. Arrived about 15 minutes early out of courtesy and the employee who came out to help me didn't greet me. She just asked his name and said your groomer will be out at 12. So I have to wait here when I had some other things to do while he was getting groomed. Not a great experience. This Vet will go above and beyond to provide the best pet care! I walked out of this building feeling tremendously relieved after Alexa and Dr. Wilson provided such excellent service during my visit! I brought my dog for a check up because his paws were becoming infected due to excessive itching from allergies. They made sure to listen attentively to my concerns, and it was clear their priority was to take care of my furry friend. I was provided with multiple options for treatment, along with a detailed explanation of what may be causing my dog's allergies and what I can do to prevent it in the future. Dr. Wilson even shared some secret tricks to help at home without the need for a second appointment. The prices are also very reasonable and the staff was extremely helpful in finding the most affordable options for me as I am on a budget. I cannot recommend this location enough! Very sad my baby Pomeranians hair was cut all Off. I asked them to Puff her hair out and trim it a bit around face ONLY, but this is what I got. They gave me a few reasons why they had to do this which all Just sounded like excuses why it was So short . It's ok if you can't do it because she's not cooperative, but don't cut it all off when this was never discussed . They didn't even puff out her body long hair which was doable..I can go somewhere else when it grows out but this was a horrible experience after we were so excited for her first grooming . Tiffany in Grooming did an amazing job with Sir Winston! She called us after a cancellation and got us in that day. Winston had quite a few knots and we were expecting them to scold us then tell us our only option was to shave him, but instead she was very understanding and did everything she could not to. She even noticed we had a baby and recommended a nail file instead of clip to keep her safe. We think his cut turned out great and her service was excellent! read more

Grooming- Dropped two of my dogs off for a bath and haircut at 3:00 pm. I arrived to picked them up at 8:45pm since I was told they would be ready at 9:00 since they were running behind and I thought the store was closing at 9:00. To my surprise the store was closed at 8:00 and I started panicking about picking up my dogs. I knocked on the windows and called the store with no answer. Finally a lady came out. She barely cracked the door to talk. (I already was concerned about the length of time it would take (6 hours); late hour of pick up and reason why I needed to sign a flea bath release. My dogs take monthly flea prevention and have never had fleas. The groomer told me not to worry everyone has to sign the release at Petco- she would take great care of my babies.). The lady said the groomer hadn't even started on my dogs so I requested to take them home. Then she came back and said she had bathed them and just needed to trim which she only needed an hour. If I took them now I would have to pay for their groom. So I let them finish. Around 11:00 pm, this lady comes out of Petco and says your dogs are ready. I get my bill and it is double the price of the quoted cost. Flea bath charge, three extra charges each, the fees cost as much as the groom. The groomer says both of my dog had tons of fleas which isn't true because I have two other dogs at home. They went to a different grooming location the next day- no extra fees and no fleas. The whole experience was awful and this place should be shut down. They are taking advantage of animals who can't speak (fleas) and having a customer wait until 11:00 pm and then charging them double the estimated amount. I went in to make a return (without receipt). When I told Akira my phone number it showed no recent transactions. Confused he gave me the customer service number. After a couple minutes waiting I was able to speak to Ingrid (manager) who was very helpful. And did everything in her power to make the return possible. It truly is where the pets go. Only because I happened to see people with their pets, or should I say pets with their people, here in the store. Although not huge in space, it appears to have whatever pet owners may need. Including a stand called "The Treatery". Grooming review: Phyllis (I hope that's her name) was great with our puppy. I chose Petco for grooming because they have a window where I can occasionally see my puppy to make sure he's okay. This made it more comfortable leaving my puppy in the hands of the groomer. He came out looking fresh and clean with a trim - especially around the eyes which is what I wanted. Not a lot to choose from, period. Doesn't matter what you're looking for, I'd go to the one on 410 (the Leon Valley exit area) ... That one is bigger. We were looking for a new dog food and hoping to find an employee to help us, we finally found someone but she was a specific brands food rep. We got the smallest bag of what she suggested but obviously she was pitching her brand. It's nice they have reps come in who are knowledgable. I wish there was more than 1 brand rep though. The nice thing is that Petco will take the food back as long as more than half is left; bring the bag and receipt in - they'll refund you or let you swap for another food. Store was tidy and check out was fast. Grooming was packed. Everything is pricier than Petsmart. The points program isn't even worth it, we're signed up but a $5 coupon for every $100 spent is bogus. read more

If I could leave zeros stars I would I drop my dog off for grooming at 12:30 and the gentleman that was going to handle her was already being rude. I call at 3 and they said it would take another 45 minutes and that they would give me a call. I decided just to go pick up my dog at 4:45 and none of the groomers where cutting hair oh even in the room. When they asked if I was picking up and I told them yes idc if y'all aren't done. The lady said they called me at 3:30 to say I they were done. I told her I didn't get a call and she said well sorry I thought you'd come in 45 min after you called. They do a great job in the grooming area. My Husky comes back looking very nice. It's just trying to get the appointment is a hassle I called 4 times no answer so I went to the store stood there for 15 minutes I can see the woman standing there and no Acknowledgement I can see her right in the glass every time I looked right at her..her face turned red so I know she saw me and was ignoring me. I went to the cashier and asked if the grooming area was still open they said yes so That mad me even more mad so at that point I just leave. The next day I called back twice finally an answer they got me the appointment but they said my dogs shots are expired which I knew wasnt true so then I had to go to the vet print out a paper and show them their info was wrong. After our 3rd visit to this Petco, I figured it was time to leave a review. I have gotten my 115 lb golden retriever groomed here 3 times by Suriyah, and let me just say, she's been AMAZING! My golden is 10 years old so she takes a bit more time than the average dog would, but Suriyah makes sure to give her the breaks she needs! Not to mention the great haircut she gets each time! I would definitely recommend Suriyah to anyone looking for a groomer. read more

My dog was at the grooming service yesterday. Even though the experience was not up to standard the manager caught it immediately. She did not charge me for my dogs grooming. I do not like writing bad reviews. But after giving this place a couple chances as well as trying to communicate my grievances to employees with no regard I am now forced to write a bad review. I have a ball python who we feed frozen fuzzy mice too. I buy them in bulk but usually the single mice packets. Twice now I have gone in to get mice and the packets of frozen mice and rats have blood in them. When you touch the packet the mice either feel mushy like they were defrosted or oddly shaped like they defrosted and refrozen. My snake cannot eat mice that have been defrosted and then refrozen. Or rotting mice that aren't frozen but luke warm. I have politely complained to the employees there and all I get is a simple....Um I'm sorry. I don't expect anything for free. I would like to know that this issue will be resolved for all of the future customers who have no clue that these mice have been defrosted and refrozen. The blood in the packets were spilling all over the other packets. Huge indicator that these defrosted. Its disgusting and it needs to be addressed. This has happened now twice to me. Im sure its happened other times. I end up having to go to Petsmart across Bandera which is sometimes an inconvenience but lately it's worth it because I don't want my snake to get sick. Please repair your freezers. I will not be back in your store to see if you have. But I hope others will read this and not buy your frozen rodents. read more

Don't ever bring your dog here to get groomed. I dropped mine off at 2 pm, was quoted she would be done in 3 hours. I arrive at 5:30 Pm and the girl tells me they are ABOUT to start on my dog. The manager comes out and let's me know that the girl who is doing the cut is from a "slow" store and that she thought she has quoted me 3 to 4 hours. It was 5:30 pm, in 30 minutes it would be 4 hours since my dog had been there. why make an appointment? Why not give me a courtesy call to let me know that they're running late? Did they expect to call me at 7 pm to let me know my dog was ready for pick up and I wasn't going to mention the 5 hour span she had been there? The manager stated he would comp the price of the service. But we'll see if that happens, since I'm STILL waiting for my dog. I've been a loyal customer for 4 years, not anymore. read more

Why all the hate? I LOVE this location!!!! I bring my dog Whiskey here for a bath every other month about and they do a fabulous job! He's always super happy and in a good mood after his grooming. The groomers are always SUPER NICE! Yes, it does take several hours because they do a GREAT JOB but I just bring him in the mornings on my day off and usually a few hrs later they call and he is ready to go smelling wonderful. Their leashes are very expensive. I bought one but it was too small for my dog. They won't allow me to exchange without a receipt. In the same visit they denied me service to trim my dogs nails since her rabies shot expired a month ago. Very frustrating. No mercy. Was beyond upset that they didn't bother to tell me on the phone when I made the appointment.
