I only shop in aquatics and Honestly the quality of this petco has declined in quality over the course of 3 years. It went from having decently healthy plants and fish to every tank having Cyanobacteria in it, plants melting, and dead fish everywhere. What really set me over and motivated me to make a yelp account to complain about this was seeing the feeder goldfish tank have two piles of dead goldfish at the bottom and a note saying they're not for sale. Like I could dismiss the Cyanobacteria and melting plants cause those are long term problems that take finessing with chemistry, but the mountain of fish bodies is unacceptable even for petco standards read more

Do not bring your dog here. I was charged $100 for a grooming service that was horrible. Nails were still long that my dogs could barely walk. They did a fleas treatment that didn't work and dog still has fleas. Worst service ever! We brought our dog here for check up and even the vet said the nails are too long that affects my dog walking. UPDATE: General manager and the team was able to help me and addressed my concerns. I'm glad to contact them. I'll be a return customer. But wouldn't want to get the same groomer again. read more

We did 4 private training sessions with Marisa and our recently rescued 2 yo blue heeler. I have nothing but great things to say about our experience with Marisa and would highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning how to train their dog and up their obedience game. We learned so much in our 4 sessions together including how to break down commands into digestible components, proper use of positive reinforcement, learning how to increase focus through distractions, etc. She brought so much energy, knowledge, and adaptability to each session making it fun and engaging for both dog and owner (she is known by our dog as "the treat goddess"). We came out of each session with more confidence and a broadened toolkit to help us navigate having such an intelligent and high energy dog. I was at Petco because my dog had an appointment scheduled for 10:30 a.m. I arrived at the store at 10:37 a.m. However, my dog was pulling me in the opposite direction because she knew she was going in for a bath, which made it difficult to get her inside. I eventually had to carry her into the store. When I reached the Bath & Grooming desk, a young man and a young woman asked what time my appointment was. I informed them it was at 10:30 a.m., and I was told that because I was late, my appointment would need to be rescheduled. My understanding is that, similar to medical appointments, there is usually a grace period of about 15 minutes. It was not my intention to be late. I spent approximately five minutes looking for parking and another five minutes getting my dog out of the car and into the store. I believe your employees would benefit from additional training in customer service and understanding the challenges pet owners may face. I chose to remain calm and simply say thank you, but I will be taking my business elsewhere. Customer service should take into consideration that some pet owners genuinely struggle to bring their pets into the store, and flexibility and empathy go a long way. read more

This is a frustrating review, we have 2 years taking our Shih Tzu since he was a puppy, Michaela used to take good care of him, the first time someone else took care of him, they cut one of the ears; we hesitated taking him again but we ended up taking him again and ooooh wooow! Earlier this year my 3 year old son was bitten by an aggressive dog in this Petco. The dog tried to bite a Petco employee twice before this incident and the employees did nothing about it. When the dog bit my son, the employees also did nothing. In fact, they didn't ask the dog and owner to leave, instead, they watched as I navigated my 3 very young children around the dog to get out of the store. Management then refused to let me contact the dog owner to see if the dog had its shots. And the GM of the store ignored all calls, visits, and emails in regards to this matter. When I finally got to talk to him face to face, he just smiled and acknowledged that he knew about the incident and in fact, didn't care. Same thing with Corporate HQ---no response from them about a 3 year old kid being bit in their store. Really unbelievable and obviously a bad culture. There are way too many pet stores options to choose Petco. So please, definitely don't go to this store, but try to find other options like Centinela Feed to support rather than this operation that prioritizes the right for vicious dogs to be in their stores over children of adults actually keeping them in business. read more

I had an emergency with my fur baby, and I couldn't get an appointment with his regular Veterinarian, so I came to Petco Veterinary and let me tell you I had the most wonderful experience, the care and attention they gave my fur baby just made me so comfortable especially since my fur baby always wears a mussel on so he doesn't bite. With the Dr. here she took the time to carefully get to know him as well as well as yummy treats. Brought my dog in several weeks ago to get her nails cut. They ended up cutting her paw and she needed to be taken to the vet because it wouldn't stop bleeding. I had to go for a couple of follow ups. When the vet took off her bandages, he said she needed to use an antibacterial wipe made for dogs to be used after she walked for the week to make sure she didn't get an infection. Although Petco paid for everything else for the vet, I was told today that they had refused to pay for the bacterial wipes, and that it was my responsibility -- bad enough that my dog got hurt and that I had to spend additional time taking her to the vet for follow ups. Absolutely not OK that they did not pay for everything associated with this! Will never use Petco grooming again. read more

I had an order for pick up so I walk in and wait in the pickup counter for a while then I'm told to go over by the grooming counter and pick up my order there. My order is no where to be found so I head back to the register and the guy asks if it's for DoorDash or personal and I say personal. And then said I need to find someone to help me because the order is there by the register... where I was waiting since the start just to be told I need to wait in line. These employees are just slow, low IQ individuals with bad communication... just wasted my time when pick up orders should be quick. As described in my review of Redondo Beach Petco, I'm on a mission to find a specific flavor of a brand of wet food my cat insists on eating. And that's what brought me to this location today. It would be easy to spend a lot of time in this plaza (next to Peck Park) because it contains a Ross & a Tuesday Morning, both of which I barely resisted. This time. I've been to this Petco before but don't recall it being so smelly. I couldn't determine if it was food, poop, plumbing or wet dog......I'm guessing it was probably bulk food for horses, goats, chickens or something, because nearby Rolling Hills is farm animal central. Or Pepe le Pew hangs out here. That's OK, because a staff member was very helpful with my mission & I was able to find some of the cat food I was looking for. And I had fun with a different employee at the cash register when the machine malfunctioned - it got stuck & kept ringing up my small purchase until it stopped at almost $300. Remember HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey? Yeah, it was like that. I told the employee that my stress caused by the cat food hunt must've transferred to the register & made it go haywire. So we had to start over & all was well in the end. (With HAL it was more difficult, to say the least.) It must have been that dang HAL who detoured my car to TJ Maxx on the PV Hill on my drive toward home. No cat food there but they do sell shoes. And there's no better stress reliever than buying shoes you don't need. Two wisdoms to remember: When the going gets tough, the tough go (shoe) shopping (just ask Carrie Bradshaw). I went to Petco's pet hospital called VETCO. I had a couple of vaccinations and tests done there. I brought my records on my phone -- went back out my car to get those records. Now they don't have them -- which is pretty irrelevant to my problem Per the doctor I was told I could get a prescription for my dog when her weight stabilized... which should have been the next visit, as my dog crossed the 22 pound mark -- and the heart worm/flea medication was for dogs 22 to 40 pounds Per the doctor, I was told that all I had to do was have my puppy weighed and I could get the prescription. The woman at the front desk refused on behalf of some unseen person / doctor in the back The following month I got the same song and dance and the woman at the front desk acted like I was trying to get away with something. I asked for a prescription AGAIN. She refused stating I needed proof of a SECOND heart worm test. She said she knew my dog would pass but it was required When I asked for PETCOs requirements she could not provide them. She gave me documents from AKC recommending a second heart worm test. There IS NO PETCO POLICY stating a prescription can be withheld if I don't pay for another unnecessary doctor visit and a second test The woman at the front desk is trying to get an extra $100 plus out of me three visits after I was told I could have the prescription so I can price shop the SIMPARICA medication. I decided I was done with PETCO/ VETCO and asked for my dog's records today - no phone call back, no records I filed a BBB complaint and requested a refund for the last exam -- since they are illegally (?) refusing to give me the prescription read more

Of the numerous PetCo locations In Southern California, this is another one. No better no worse than all of the rest. Though there are a million PetCo locations all around the area, each of them has their own unique vibe. This is defined not only by where the store is located but the staff, as well. Though this location is not as new, large, and nicely designed as some of the more recently developed locations, this store has everything that PetCo is known to offer. Plus, the staff here is very nice. Located in a large shopping plaza on Western Avenue, this store is fairly easy to get to. Plus, they have a large parking lot, so parking is never an issue. The one problem about going to this location is, however, getting out of the parking lot. I'm not quite sure who designed the street access but they should really rethink their initial design, as it can be a real problem to get out of this parking lot. This has nothing to do with the PetCo location itself, this is just something to keep in mind because, especially during high traffic hours, it can take some effort to get back on to the street once you have picked up your pet food or pet supplies. All this being said, this is a good place to get all of your pet supply needs. read more

I went there a couple weeks after my senior dog became very ill after staying at a kennel. The not-veterinarian Tran diagnosed by dog with pancreatis and prescribed meds. After 1 week and a half my dog became significantly worse and dropped 2 1/2 pounds during that time. I then took my dog to the emergency where I was informed that my dog did NOT have pancreatitis and that the meds prescribed by Tran were not correct. I had to "wash" out my dog from the NSAIDs prescribed so she could start taking steroids instead. After a month of going to 3 vets, my dog died. I completely know that my dog did not die from old age. My dog died due to the not vets, like the not gynecologists, in Southern California not being to easily diagnose symptoms. There was no reason my dog needed to take as much wrong medication as she was prescribed. It was due to stupidity, on purpose and not. No response by vetco is needed. read more

This PETCO for the most part disappoints me 80 percent of the time. It's the neighborhood big box Pet store and we try to support those places. Why the one star? My appointment is at 1:45 but it does not matter. It's chaos when I walk with my pet friend. Five other owners are there with their pets to check-in or check-out. You see they have an antiquated information system so the database barely retains your last visit. So for five years they continually ask me for a rabies shot that I've shown them eight times. Or better yet they put it in their system and it disappears from the screen as soon as they save it. Yes I've pre-registered online and then uploaded the paperwork with a confirmation and it doesn't matter I still get asked for my pets Rabies shots. Which on average takes 15 - 20 mins to log in. I'm sure the employees are going mad with frustration. They really want small dogs or short hair dogs. There are no real discounts from my point of view unless you join Vetco. The point system doesn't really deliver anything. All Saturday appointments are overbooked and to make matters worse half the staff is there wanting to disqualify your dog from being groomed or serviced. Who wants to be scheduled for a confirmed grooming appointment to be turned away. Save yourself time and go to another groomer. PETCO close the grooming departments most of them are not scrutinized enough and meeting standards. Sniff I've seen this type of service before and I smell Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I DO NOT recommend bringing your dog here to get groomed unless you're open to receiving insults and humiliation from the groomer. I took my 7 month old GSD here for the second time, and the groomer insulted and belittled my puppy. I believe the groomer's name is Carolina. She said he has split personalities and his behavior is weird. She added that she has never seen a GSD act like him and continued to insult and belittle my pup. I'm also going to add that in the first place, she didn't even know how to remove my pup's flea collar and regular collar. And you tell me you work as a groomer and don't know how to correctly remove a simple collar? Please. Plus, it's her job to make sure the dog's calm. I have taken my pup to different groomers before who have loved him. Only reason I don't take him to other groomers anymore is because they are far from home, and this Petco is only 10 mins away from my place. Also, I should've seen Carolina's attitude as a red flag before she took my pup in when she started to have side comments about my pup's barking. This location has lost my utmost respect and business. To the management, please ensure the staff you hire are actually knowledgeable of different dog breeds and have patience. I don't think anyone who has a bad attitude and a bad mouth should be working here. It's very humiliating. I was humiliated. My poor pup was humiliated. Please do something about this. read more
