My cat requires special prescription food, and the Sanford PetCo is one of the only stores that sells the food, and they have the best price on the food. At $62 for an 8-and-a-half-pound bag, it's still not cheap, but it's less than it costs at my veterinarian's office. The staff at this location have always been friendly and helpful. The store has been clean each time I have visited. There is plenty of parking at this location, and there are plenty of shopping carts that are easy to access. The fish and aquarium area in the store are modern and beautiful. I do not have an aquarium, but my son loves looking at the fish, so I stroll by this area every time we're here. Terrible customer service getting a wellness checkup scheduled for my kitty. They called me during my work to ask about the appointment then decided to change the appointment time without my consent and gave me trouble trying to put it back in my originally set checkup time. Stating that "I inappropriately set the wellness checkup" when I purposely wanted a wellness checkup. Would not recommend if you want to be harassed at work and coerced to changing your time while you are busy working. read more

Petco's Sanford, FL store on Wp Ball Blvd is a very nice store. Unfortunately, they rarely have my cats' prescription dry food in stock. Don't particularly like having to order online for delivery to my home because Racoons have gotten into previous deliveries and also the website has a glitch where it will NOT allow upload of pet's prescriptions -- keep getting an error. Really wish the Sanford, FL store would just keep more prescription dry cat food in stock. read more

A smaller and nicely kept store. They have animals, a rescue pet area and plenty of merch. They do sell the higher end foods and toys, so they can be pricey, but they carry good brands so it's not too surprising. The grooming area is open and they are taking appointments, so if you're dog needs a trim, you can get that done! I love peeking through the windows and seeing get prettied up. I love looking through the dog toy area to see if they have anything I may want to get for our doggo, but didn't happen to see anything this particular visit. Really love this Petco because unlike a lot of other pet stores, I never have trouble finding a friendly employee here willing to assist with a smile. Have bought many items for my standard poodle here from leashes and collars to toys and treats. They don't carry his food in the store, but they do have it on their online site, so I just order it there. It's also free shipping because I spend over $50 each time I make a purchase and it gets to me quickly. Have never had more than one person in front of me in line so checking out is a breeze. Considering all the animals who pass through here, the store is kept clean and there is no smell of dog urine, etc. read more

I am very pissed off! Friday I took my dog to get groomed by Angelina J. I told them to cut short because she had fleas and we wanted to monitor her skin. They do not let you see the dog before you tip or pay! I took my dog home and seen she had some hair cut way too short like almost cutting her skin. THEN this morning we feel a part of her neck that is rough and she's itching and come to find out her NECK HAD BEEN SHAVEN TO DEEP THAT ITS BLEEDING. Never again will I ever go to this location. I paid 98 with tip for my poor pup to be in pain. I did ask for it short but not short where my poor baby is in pain. Now we have to put a cone on her neck to stop her from causing more pain. read more

She did not receive any documentations of this animal at the time of purchase sent her Husband the next day, and on the shot records there is nothing listed. This has to be animal neglect, because Petco does not take the proper care and keep the proper documentations for their animals. She has been on the phone the whole day today trying to figure it out, no answers from no one . You guys didn't even provider her with the information if the ferret is female or male. Horrible customer service . I bought a bag of dog food from this location . When I opened it , there was mold in it. I asked to speak to the manager who I was told was too busy . I said I would wait . When she finally came she said that's not our fault . No sorry that happened or sorry for your inconvenience.. She told me to get another bag . I asked that she open the bag before I left so I could make sure this bag didn't have mold in it also . She said she didn't have any scissors. When I said I wasn't going to leave she decided she could go find a pair . Took her sweet time to come back and refused to give me her name, did say she was the assistant manager. She refused to say she was sorry for the inconvenience I had since I had to bring the food back. I called corporate but reading another review it appears they don't hold their employees accountable. Chewy would have credited your account plus give you a new bag . By far the worst experience at my local Petco store in Sanford. I went in looking for a store credit and because I did not have my receipt and they could not locate my purchase through my pals rewards account Brooke the store manager did nothing extra to help me with my exchange. I was told that they could not do anything to help me with my twenty dollar purchase. I was told I could not return nor get store credit for my item. I then called customer service and was told it was based on the discretion of the store. The customer service agent was able to find my purchase. When I called the Sanford Petco after hanging up with customer service, I waited close to to twenty five minutes before speaking with a store manger. I asked to speak with Brooke and she never came to the phone to attend to me. I feel that Brooke was trying to avoid speaking with me. Very unprofessional on her part. I have spent so much of my money at this location. From pet grooming, to dog training, aswell as buying food and any supplies needed for my pets. UPDATE . After almost a week with the ferret my daughter made the decision to return her ferret to Petco because it was a lot more work than we realized and it smelled pretty bad. My wife returned the ferret and she said the staff was great and very helpful. I went to this location to help out with getting some new fish for my upgraded aquarium. I usually go to the Orange City location, but due to a recently implemented corporate policy, they are now restricted to what corporate sends them. So, I decided to try the Stanford store. I asked for assistance and the assistant manager came up. I explained to her what I was looking for, and she replied, "I don't have thirty minutes." I was taken aback and replied I only needed three minutes. She didn't even have that to give a customer. I went to the front desk and requested to see the manager. This same person came up and said the manager was off and she was in charge. I told her I would be calling corporate, and she provided the phone number and told me it wouldn't make any difference she would "still be here". We had very poor grooming staff experience. The grooming staff was not helpful or pleasant at all. They were more concerned with going home than trying to problem solve a shots record situation with us. We scheduled an appointment at that location because our location was booked. Although it took us more than 35 min. to get there, we were not aware that paperwork may have been missing indicating that our pet was up to date on shots. Our vet is located in the same building but were closed. Had they been open, it would have done no good because the Petco employees just kept repeating they are not affiliated. My husband and I tried to offer problem solving ideas like looking at the email for records or calling the other location but during that time, we felt they just wanted us to leave so they can close up early. We showed them her tags with a current date but they insisted those could be any animal's tags so they will not and cannot use them. One employee walked away from the counter saying, she was leaving so someone else will help us. We weren't helped at all. They wanted to leave and were trying to get us to leave. Vetco/Petco DOESN'T ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR PETS!!! They don't even have a customer service department. It just gets rerouted to the location you went to. Or the absolute run around. I've been trying to get answers for a month after my last couple visits here. What started as simply trying to figure out the next steps for my dog for "allergies"has turned into something much, much more. My dog has been dealing with whatever it is for 2 years! Staff (not all members, but for sure a doctor and nurse/receptionist) were rude and nasty, clearly not wanting to help. I tried reaching out to the "customer service department" and it just goes back to the animal hospital. They advertise Dermatology, but won't do any thing past prescribing apoquel or cytopoint. They even gave the wrong medication dosage to my husband and said its fine because she was on the "cusp". Shes almost 60lbs now. They tried to give her a dosage that was for 10lb less. If they were unable to help, they should have just said that. But now in my experience, Petco/ Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital are just a bunch of liars. My dog hasn't even been there physically I think since November of 2023. Petco has definitely lost a customer. read more

I'm highly disappointed in the way this location has handle our interaction. First and foremost the discrimination that was applied to my spouse and myself were very uncomfortable and unprofessional. Due to our age and ethnicity the staff treated us like we were wasting there time and rushing us to get out of the store. I don't think I will ever come here again. I've always loved Petco. The one in Altamonte by Whole Foods has always been helpful. There's no reason on 3pm on a Thursday when no one was there to give me slack about asking for my Pet Rewards number. The only person at the register was Tanya, & she has trouble locating my Rewards Number - which can be normally found by my phone number - she couldn't find my name in the system. Well. I got married - my name changed. She proceeded to tell me I didn't exist in the system when I clearly came up under a different name (my maiden name) & got huffy when I requested she look me up by my phone number. I then popped up & she got defensive & then said my number so quickly I wasn't able to write it down. She got defensive when I asked her to say it slower. I was about to throw my hands up & go to the Altamonte location, but I have no time & this location happens to be closer. I picked up a few things & headed to check out. When I checked out, she gave me an attitude because the cat food was on sale & again - got huffy. Again she couldn't find me in the system. Look lady, I can't help you if I can clearly see that I popped up on your system with my phone number & not my last name. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she made it even worse by taking it out on someone for asking about a service they provide. I'll go to the Altamonte location moving forward. I appreciate the fact i can run into Petco, grab bird food, and be checked out within less than 5 minutes. This location is always extremely fast about getting their customers checked out in a timely manner. I personally wish this location had a better selection of bird toys. The atmosphere is somewhat gloomy and I've noticed typically bird items are not on sale. I was lucky on my last trip to snag a few good deals, but didn't noticed any huge discounts this trip. I am not a huge fan of PETCO rewards, and how the coupons expire. I think that PETCO needs a more effective way to earn points and redeem those coupons. read more

This organization rehabilitates kittens that would otherwise be feral. They are a total volunteer organization that foster cats and kittens with the goal of finding them their forever home. Kittens run $90 for an adoption but that fee includes spay/neuter and shots. Best deal around for cat adoptions! read more

Best quality pet store I've ever been to! I walked into the petco and immediately felt welcomed! The store was capped so so nice, I first walked over to the betta fish and was very impressed with how well they seem to be cared for. Each of their cups had very clean water and each of their fishing to be perfectly healthy and happy (as happy as a fish can be in a cup that is). I then October to the other fish that they had and bigger tanks and the tanks were so spotless, and each tank only had a few fish in it which is good because usually pet stores over stock! They also seemed to take really good care of all their other animals, and they had a large variety of things you might need and had a large abundance of everything. Nice little location in Sanford next to World Market. A friend and I stopped in in a whim to check things out since we are both pet owners. They had an adoption event going on with a local cat rescue so that was cool. Def check their store info and calendar to see which rescues will be there if you are looking to adopt a pet. I don't normally purchase toys for my pets but noticed a basket of stuffed squeaker toys for $1 near the register. Ended up picking up 2 for my gang at home. The cashier mentioned that they weren't selling so they ended up marking them down really low. So if there is a toy you are eyeing for your pet, it doesn't hurt to wait to see if they mark down. Especially if it doesn't look to be a big seller. Great little experience for the short time we were there! read more

I want to start off saying the store itself is not a bad place. I do want to mention about the groomers though. The main reason I brought my dog here was to get his nails clipped. They suggested to add on a shampoo, his ears and teeth. I of course said yes, why not pamper him. I dropped him off for TWO HOURS. When I came to pick him up they didn't cut his nails or clean his teeth. They said "He was a problem" He smelled exactly like he did when he went in as well...... If I knew they couldn't of done it I wouldn't of brought him there in the first place. They upgraded other areas because of it. I didn't go there to get other services done. I asked for change in order to tip the groomer and was informed that "they cannot open the cash drawer". Really? In a retail store? NEVER will go back. For one, they mistreat their reptiles, baby leopard geckos housed together 5-8 of them in one tank, one time I even saw a dead turtle. Bearded dragons are poorly treated and also housed together. If you are a reptile lover DO NOT EVER GO HERE! Secondly, I walked in the store with my mother and was told to stand 6 feet apart from her. NO OTHER PLACE MAKES YOU STAND 6ft APART FROM YOUR OWN FAMILY!!! We were told if we didn't they would have to ask us to leave. As we walked out, the same employee was helping a customer and was barely even 2 feet away from her. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSE WHERE!!!
