We have been taking our cockapoo Milo here for nail trims for about a year or two as we love the speed of service and fair pricing. They always take him as a walk-in and we never have to wait more than 15 min for this service. The groomer is generous and trims more than we ask for, and still charges a fair price. I am writing to formally document a highly unprofessional experience at Big Paw Groomers on Curry Ford. I want to caution others before trusting their pets to this establishment. I brought my Samoyed Husky in for grooming after being quoted $65 over the phone. The owner, Mini, later called to inform me that due to hair knots, the hair would need to be cut short and the price would increase to $150. Nearly triple the price of the original quote. This is not the first instance that Mini makes this drastic price adjustments without a prior physical assessment of my dog. This is an act of manipulative business. Mini's son, who received my dog upon drop-off, also mentioned that the dog's grooming could be easily fixed with a short haircut. I agreed to a shorter cut however, when I picked up my dog, she had been completely shaved down to the skin. While there were some knots, they could have been brushed out with proper care, but it appears the staff took a shortcut. (No Pun intended.) When I attempted to leave, the situation escalated. After I mentioned that I had been bathing my dog at home due to a skin condition--which my veterinarian suggested may have been linked to previous grooming hygiene--the owner became increasingly aggressive. She began shouting and turned the conversation into a personal attack, acting in a ghetto, street like manner so volatile that I felt completely disrespected. This is the second instance of unprofessionalism my family has had to encounter, as the owner was previously involved in an altercation with my son 2 years ago. Due to Mini's drastic price manipulation that I mistakenly chose to dismiss. I regret not taking my son's experience, conducting business with Mini into consideration. Unfortunately I had to experience it for myself first hand with her low class disgusting behavior. Given the lack of care for the animals hygiene, cross contamination, drastic change in pricing, and the hostile environment, I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Took our Yorkies to this business for a full grooming. Upon pickup and after going home, we noticed one of the dogs eyes was very red. She could not even open her eye so we used warm compresses on her for the evening and also the next morning. We went back to the groomer and she denied any wrongdoing. The attitude from the owner/manager was very insensitive and uncaring. There was no apology and no offer to assist with the vet. We left this facility, totally upset at the outcome come and of course, the lack of professional service given to our sweet pups. I took my small yorkie for a full groom there for the first time and now one of her eyes are shut ( I HAVE PICTURES ) I dropped her off and went to pick her up when they called. when I got there everything seemed fine, I paid and got in my car but as soon as I got my dog in her car seat she started scratching her face. I drove to the publix right next to there and noticed around her eye was very pink and she had some stuff in her eye. I tried to get it off but my dog cried and kept squinting her eye. I left it alone and when I got home she started acting very strange my dog usually has a lot of energy. (WARNING!!!) Do not take your pets to this facility . I made the mistake of taking my dogs to Big Paws Grooming Salon. Both of my dogs were scheduled to get a simple grooming, but instead they cut my one dogs rear foot, so bad that they nearly severed his toe when we took him to the vet they told us that he would need surgery to remove the toe. My sister tried contacting the Owner about this but was unsuccessful it took us three different attempts before we actually got to speak to her. She did not want to take responsibility and was actually more upset about the negative review that I had posted the night before, then the groomers negligence in this matter. She left us in shock and with a $1600 bill. All she did was become argumental about the negative review, instead of paying the bill. Because of the groomers negligence, his age, and the bill being so high, we had to make a very sad and very tough decision to Euthanize our beloved dog. This women is heartless and a terrible person. she also had the nerve to say. "he didn't need that toe anyway." As for our other dog he became skittish as if they had done something to him. Bring your pets to Big Paws Grooming Salon at your own risk! If the Owner or Employee hands you a document to sign, make sure to read it first. It's actually an agreement that favors the business from being liable , if anything were to go wrong. She even went so far as to change the original website so no one would see this review. It was Christmas Eve and we decided to take our sweet dog to the groomer for a haircut just in time for the holidays! It was our first time at this groomer and we were told we could drop her off anytime between 8am-9am so when I arrived I made sure to let them know "She is old and has moles all over her body so please be very careful". The owner said "oh, no problem". I left my number on the card they have you fill out when you are a new customer but also noticed on that paper it states something along the lines that they are allowed to give your dog emergency care if needed; which I thought was odd because our previous dog groomer (which we only left because we moved) never had us sign anything like that. I left her there thinking I'm sure that's a just in case type of thing. I went to the grocery and still had not heard from the groomer so I went home to wait for her call. When I got home my husband was on the phone talking to someone and stating "well, what happened to her?" Of course my stomach drops. He hangs up and states The groomer states while giving our dog "a bath" she had a scab that "fell off" and there is "a hole" in the side of her body that she would need to see a vet for. She states she "squeezed it and yellow puss came out" but that they treated it with peroxide and that our dog was fine and they were going to cut her hair and call us when she was ready to pick up. (We had never experienced anything like this before so we didn't really understand what was going on.) My husband picked her up, PAID the $40 for the haircut and when he brought her home the "hole" in her body looked TERRIBLE! It was literally a hole in her body! We called the groomer back and asked her "Are you sure you did not cut one of her moles off?" And she proceeded to say "That did not happen here." But she had already said it did happen there while "bathing her". We took our dog immediately to the emergency vet because again it was CHRISTMAS EVE and our normal vet was closed. The emergency vet states this was "NOT due to giving your dog a bath and a scab falling off; This was due to trauma." We had to pay a LARGE amount for our dog to have stitches and medication and a cone. Again, it was CHRISTMAS EVE. Our poor dog was drugged up and in pain for days. Once again I called the groomer and told her what the emergency vet said that this was due to trauma. She proceeded to yell at me and tell me that "did not happen there" (mind she already previously stated that it did happen while giving her a bath) and that she was "calling my bluff" and wanted my vets information because she was going to call him. She was EXTREMELY unprofessional screaming at me on the phone. We are extremely upset over all of this. It was a terrible experience. My dog's nails weren't cut properly, so I was advised to return to get it fixed, and when I did, I was sent away for her being too busy. It woukd have taken two minutes, and she could have returned to what she was doing. I have a toy yorkie, she's barely 3 pounds so you can imagine how protective I am about her. I've been here before and I was satisfied with how they cut her hair and did her nails. BUT I was so disappointed and devastated from my last visit. I made an appointment for my yorkie at 8:30 in the morning I dropped her off and they said they would call me when they were done(I ONLY wanted them to cut her hair and nails). I had to do some stuff and when I finished I noticed the time and it was 11 am and I haven't received a call, I got worried and drove there . When I get there I find out they haven't cut her hair yet. So I waited for them to cut her hair when she was done I gave her $20 ( what I've paid in the past ) and to my surprise it was $50.... I was shocked at first. But turns out they bathed her and did some other stuff I NEVER ASKED THEM TO DO, which made the price go up! The next day I pick up my dog and see MY DOG HAS FLEAS! (After they "bathed" her)My dog is an inside dog and she didn't have fleas went I dropped her off. THEN I realize my poor baby's private area was hurt and bruised, she was not in heat, I was terrified. I went with a family member who also had the same problem with her yorkie at the same place and the lady claimed it couldn't have happened there....Sadly my family member had to go to the vet and had to pay $70 for her yorkies visit and medication for the same problem my yorkie had in her private area. Just started taking my 7 year old yorkie here this December because I didn't have time to groom him myself like I usually do. Tell Winnie, master stylist, how you want your pet groomed and she'll do it! The style was so wonderful, that I decided to bring a yorkie puppy that I recently adopted a few days ago. Again Winnie delivered! When I picked up my baby girl, her style was adorable, topped with a cute bow. The prices are reasonable ($35 for a small dog). My neighbor highly recommended big paws so I was very excited to give it a try. I am an overly protective doggy mom so I started with just a nail trimming and asked for a sanitary cut on his belly and paws. I specifically told the lady not to cut his tail. I sat there and watched my dog the whole time. The lady working there barely spoke English so I had a feeling something was going to go wrong. First, they cut one of his nails so short that he was bleeding. They just handed him back to me with blood on his nail. This is the main reason I researched a dog groomer because this was a big fear of mine! Also, they cut his tail hair in half! My dog had a beautiful long tail and now it's gone. He also is limping because his paw is in so much pain from his nails being cut too short. On top of it all, the lady did not want to give me a reciept. After asking for it, I realized why. She gave herself a $10.00 tip instead of charging me for a sanitary clipping. Now, all this occurred while the other employee sat outside the groomer smoking a cigarette while her two children ran back and forth inside the groomers probably scaring the dogs even more. If it was possible to give this place no stars I would. This is the second time visiting this facility and the first experience was mediocre. This time I took my dog for a bath and to clean around her face like I usually do a PETSMART. But I chose to give this place a try because I like to support small business and because they are usually cheaper. I received a phone call at 4 saying my dog was ready but by that time I was already at a hair salon. On the door of this business and all over the Internet it is posted that they close at 7. So I figured no problem I'll be done way before 7. I got a phone call from the owner who was very hostile and unprofessional yelling at me. Asking me why would I not come pick up my dog and that she didn't know why I would leave my dog there all day when I was only getting a 30 service. I explained to the owner that I got a phone call at 4 and that when I have gone to other groomers they have let me pick up the dog as long as it was before close. I work for a fortune 500 company and the way this ungrateful, disrespectful, unprofessional owner runs her business they will stay in that little Shop in the little shopping Plaza in the middle of nowhere. I asked her about the hours posted on her door and she stated that it was a mistake and that she is going to take that down because it causes confusion. Clearly this has happened before. I told the owner that if someone would've explained the pick up policy to me instead or if she would've approached me in a completely different way I would've been more than happy to apologize for the confusion but she was so irrate and stated that ,"oh well I hope somebody is here when you come so you can get your dog." I lost it. To say that I am pissed is an understatement and I will be posting this on every review website that this pathetic company has so everyone can know what kind of business she is running.
