Today (Sunday March 22)I went in with some family from out of town at about 1:30pm. Their dog was fairly sweaty from the hot car ride here , so we decided to go to pet co for a self wash. We waited at the station they have to do so until Wendie went to the counter which took way longer than it should have and on top of that was done with a very bad attitude. She wouldn't allow my family to wash their dog without a vaccination record sheet which was strange to us (because you're washing your own dog not having someone else do it,but if it's policy it's policy) if it wasn't said in the condescending manner that it was we would've purchased the items the rest of our party had gathered in the mean time . Instead we gathered our party,left, and won't be back. I do not recommend this place to anyone . It was our first time in and to be treated so poorly just made for a terrible experience. read more

This review is meant to inform any potential grooming customers. Before bringing your pet in for its agreed upon appointment, make sure that the appointment still in fact exists. I was told that they call to confirm the appointment but I never received a voicemail and when I showed up, I was told the appointment was canceled. I never canceled it and I find it strange that they would assume our appointment had been canceled without speaking to me. I scheduled my weekend around this appointment only to find appointments dont mean much at Petco. It's a shame but it'll be the last time that I ever bring my business here. read more

Took my boyfriends dog into the grooming salon to get a bath and when we went to go pick him up the nails weren't done. They didn't even tell us they didn't do the nails, I had to go find someone and they told us he was too rambunctious. I know he isn't bad because I've done his nails before. I was able to do them in less than 10 minutes. read more

Worst grooming experience EVER. Tanna has got to the rudest employee I've ever met at a Petco. Schedules both my dogs for the Pets2 Special thinking I wouldn't have to explain myself again when I went cause usually the notes are in the computer already. Nope. Didn't get any of that when I picked my dogs up. She made me feel as though I was bothering her by asking ANY questions. Both of dogs were still very wet when I picked them up. I purchased deshedding. Waste of money. When I went back in to ask about it Tanna swears I was ruining her vacation by asking yet another question. WORST customer service ever. I went last week to get a live plant and some shrimp for my betta fish aquarium and when I was waiting to be helped with I was looking at the live plants and they're all brown looking nothing looks well taken care of in the aquariums and the girl who rang me up skinny redhead with glasses was kind of rude and I was about to pay $92 for a $5 life plant and 59 Cent shrimp and it came out to $92 and I looked at her like I don't think I'm supposed to be paying this much unless she's like "oh i messed up" and told me to give this lil peoce of paper back to the other girl who has a big butt idk her name they were both off and kinda rude TRAIN THEM BETTER read more

Don't come here. I stopped in to wash my two dogs at the self wash station. I walked up to the grooming desk (where it says "Self Wash" in big letters) and started to ask how the self wash service worked. The employee sitting behind the desk didn't even let me finish my sentence when she took a quick look up from her personal phone so tell me I needed to pay at checkout. Checkout had a line of about 5 people and the grooming desk was completely empty. I took my two dogs up to the checkout line, paid, and asked them why couldn't pay at the grooming counter. They told me that sometimes they're really busy over there and so they send people over to check out. I pointed out that there was no one standing there (visible from the checkout line) and that the girl was just sitting on her phone. They apologized but they clearly didn't care. The self wash station itself was FILTHY. It clearly hadn't been washed for days. I used to work in a grooming shop and I know hair can build up quick but this was something else entirely. They have no towels, no brushes, no combs, or anything. I paid $40 to use a hose basically. My dogs probably walked out dirtier than they came in. I've heard rumors that theyve been planning on shutting down the self wash at this location. I think they should. I know this place is new but I took my miniature schnauzer in for a full service Sunday March 25, 2018. The groomer told us that she had 9.5 years experience and seemed knowledgeable of the breed and we felt confident with her experience and knowledge that she would do a good job. WE WERE WRONG. Her coat is uneven with lines everywhere, her ears were not trimmed, they had her for 7.5 hours, called me and offered a discount if I allowed them to view her cut, from the groomer with 9.5 years experience, for trainees to learn, then called later and stated the service would be free because they had her for 7.5 hours and then charged my husband $35 when he arrived. Absolutely ridiculous! I posted pictures of her ears to show they were not trimmed and will post more of her cut later. Please do not throw your money away and just take you fur babies somewhere else! I wasted money and now have to spend more to fix this atrocity they call a grooming service! More like butcher hack job! Also when I called to speak to the manager, no one would answer the phone. Bad cuts and lies is what this store offers. If I could give negative stars the it would be -5 for the dishonestly alone. read more

Came in looking for ice cream but we ended up buying a dog shirt that was on sale for almost $8.00 dollars. I paid while my husband n kids were looking at the snakes and the receptionist didn't give me a receipt, we walked out and the this taller guy asked if we paid for the shirt we bought. Not all people steal, us that have the money to buy anything and have morals and manners don't steal. So I told him the receptionist didn't give us a receipt so he asked her and she said yes they paid for it. This dude needs to stay by the door instead of embarrassing customers seriously, do that or hire more people. We had our Yorky terrier in for grooming today and it took all day and when we called they hung up on us so we called again to have us put on hold for quite a while while we could hear them talking in the background. We picked her up with a horrible haircut because they were training new employees and used our dog to train a new employee to groom. She came back with no whiskers. And an uneven cut. The charge was $70 and asked for a tip which we gladly gave them. We will not be back up. Very disappointed. read more

Competing with Petsmart as one of the worst retailers in the area for pets. Found their prices to be slightly higher at times than Petsmart and they will not price match online retailers only the physical stores in the area. That is something Walmart did a few months ago and I stopped going. Once you stop competing on prices you lose me as a customer. Best decision I ever made not going back to Walmart. If not for the fact I do not live in a city where Amazon had same day delivery I would never price research between Petsmart and Petco. I enjoy coming to Petco, but I had a bad experience last Saturday. My boyfriend and I took his dog in get a bath from the self service wash station, which is such a good idea. But we were greeted by Tanna.. to start, when she walked up to us she said " do you have a question" as we were waiting for someone to assist us for a couple minutes.. she didn't even say hi.. Just rudely asked if we had a question ( why else would we be standing there?) and we were immediately turned off. We proceed to pay for the self wash, then we came back to the grooming area to sign a paper and she just handed us a pen and told us to sign and to top it off, the shampoo wasn't even working! We love using the washing station but it was unfortunate that we had to deal with a rude employee. She should have a smile next time or at least try to act nice. I used to work in retail and I get some days are better than others and you're really busy sometimes or even if you hate your job but that's not our fault and that's no reason to be rude to customers. I definitely won't be leaving my dog with the groomers even if she needed a nail trim. It's unfortunate that an employee ruined it for us. read more

If I could give -5 stars I would but that option is not available. I brought my beautiful long-haired Pomeranian to get a TRIM, when dropping her off I explain to them how you're not supposed to cut a Pomeranians hair short and definitely not take clippers to it at all! How there is a danger of it not growing back the correct way. They assured me that they understood what I was saying and that I just wanted her "cleaned up"and that they knew about the Pomeranian coat. When I picked her up, there were several employees that came to the front with my dog, almost as if they were ready for a fight (like they knew they had done something terribly wrong). My beautiful coated Pom no longer had her coat and appeared to have been shaved!!! But I remained calm because I had my 12-year-old daughter with me that would've been very upset if I acted like anything was wrong with her dog, so I just mentioned to them how it was much shorter than I had instructed them to cut and that I was concerned about her undercoat..the groomer that cut her hair assured me that she didn't hurt her undercoat and that it would be fine. While the other 3 employees stood there with a worried look on there faces! I wasn't sure what to do as the store was closing and I didn't want to upset my daughter and was just hoping it wasn't as bad as I felt it was at the time. So we went home, as I took her a little T-shirt off it was clear that they had took clippers to her, damaging her coat probably forever. It has been about a month, her fur is not growing, it's actually shedding horribly, and now she has developed skin issues! I cannot express how upset I am!! I don't understand how a groomer can be so careless and 100% just disregard a customers instructions?? Before bringing her to get groomed I researched the Pomeranian coat and all the dangers and side effects of grooming incorrectly and is why I spent probably 20 min explaining and making sure this grooming salon was familiar with grooming this breed. So my only conclusion is that she just didn't care and wanted to do what she wanted to do with MY DOG! And I paid her for it! And my dog may not ever be the same and is now suffering with a skin condition that I believe is due to her undercoat being disturbed. I can't turn back time but I wish I had read reviews prior to my visit as I see this is not the first time they have done this! I hope this helps someone else before they make the same mistake. These groomers at Petco Santa Maria are negligent PERIOD!! And I will NEVER step foot in that store again read more

I purchase the Full-Service Pkg and the Haircut wasn't complete the Nail wasn't cut and a few other things weren't done and it took over5 hours to not get what I paid for and now I had to Max to someone else to gt toes cut.. Took over 4 hours to groom my small 5 lb chiwauah. I just dont understand why it took so long.

So this is not so much an update on that visit but an add-on based on a subsequent visit. I went in to buy one thing today. No line so I walked right up to the cashier. Horray! But...I hadn't even reached the counter and the cashier asked for my phone number. It was a little abrupt like she wanted to get me out as fast as possible. But, she was nice and maybe she was trying to be efficient so no biggie. But the thing that didn't sit well with me was that in the middle of helping me she comments about getting an unknown caller on her cell phone, which she the reaches out to look at. While I am still checking out. I worked in retail for many years but you do not need to have any such experience to know that customer service 101 is Do not look at your phone while helping a customer. It just seems like they don't appreciate your business when stuff like that happens. Hope management sees this so cashiers can be retrained or reminded not to look at their phones when helping customers. read more

I went into the salon for a mini makerover by Tanna. I have a senior dog, and she was very nervous as it was her first time in the salon. After Tanna talked to my pup, she went inside very willingly. I had been told by my vet that my dog would NOT let them cut her nails at all, but Tanna was able to trim AND grind them with no problem! My dog came out happy, wagging her tail and smelling amazing. I have been bringing my Airedale's in for their baths and grooming since they have opened the new store in Santa Maria. I followed Jennifer when she moved to this store. I would not bring my dogs anywhere else. I am always treated so well by staff, I call they fit me in easily. When we arrive the dogs are always greeted with a big smile. Jennifer is such a great groomer and her partner who helps her out is always good with the dogs and is very nice. We came in today and they look and smell so good!!! When I dropped off my dog they confused him with another with the same name but totally opposite breeds. They updated the info in the computer to mine until another employee noticed the mistake. When I went to pick him up I waited 10 minutes at the counter until someone from cashier noticed me and went in to inform them I was waiting. I experienced the worst customer service. I went in to purchase some fish. I was looking around for an associate for 10 minutes. Finally I was able to locate Britany to assist me. I told her the type of fishes I wanted. She looked at me and rolled her eyes. I told her I wanted to choose the specific one and she gave me an attitude and told me to wait at the register. After I got the fishes and was on my way home I realized she had given me the wrong fishes and one was dead by the time I got home. Just used the self-wash station for the first time. Our dog was a little unsure but we got her in the tub and strapped in. I appreciate the tiers going into the tub. I was given a basket of supplies including a bottle of something that I thought was shampoo but shampoo is dispensed at the tube so not sure what it was. Maybe another shampoo? You also get an apron, brush and some towels. The hose was easy to maneuver and the water a nice warm temperature. The shampoo and conditioner made it easy to give my dog a scrub-down. The dryer hose was not very warm but it did the job of getting what the towels couldn't. All in all, I was happy with this and will definitely use it again. One issue: when I walked up to the check-in counter, a staff member had taken a dog in the back but no one else came to help me. After a couple minutes, I approached two employees stocking nearby but once I said what I needed, they were polite and helpful. So, just a recommendation to be more mindful of customers. But, I have always had good experiences in this store so this isn't a big deal. Case in point: After the bath, we were going to purchase a bag of about 4 little treats from the bulk bin but an employee said not to worry about it. They were on the house! How nice!
