Mortified! This has been my preferred pet store for the last 8-10 years and I've always felt like they cared for their animals more than most chain pet stores until today. About a year ago I got a mouse from there that had mites but I assumed it was a fluke. We went in to maybe get a new hamster but pretty much all of them were covered in mites and looked like they were suffering. 2 of them looked far worse then the rest and it was very upsetting to see them on display like that to be sold. There were even gnats flying around their tanks. We decided to move on to the fish in hopes they would be fine to look at, WRONG! There were handfuls of dead fish stuck on a filter and on the bottom of the tank. I understand animals can come in sick or develop things but then why not keep them in the back to be treated instead of putting their suffering on display? Absolutely so disheartened by the care there. I know it doesn't make a difference to a big ugly corporation like that but we will not be returning ever again! read more

We take our dog here for grooming because they are the best around! Our dog gets anxiety when being groomed but Groomer Sammi does a great job calming him down and getting him freah and clean. Pricing is moderate as we have aong haired dog. I gave them a 4 because they do not have a seperate grooming door. That's problematic for me because: 1) when there are events in store its hard to get to the grooming area 2) grooming opens before the store but there isn't a doorbell to get someone to come to the door to open it read more

I come to this Petco location all the time to purchase my pet supplies. The staff is always friendly, and I have not had a problem until yesterday's visit. Yesterday I took my dog in to get groomed and have his nails trimmed. This was his second time being groomed here. When I arrived to pick him up after his grooming appointment was finished, he seemed a bit shaken this time. His fur looked great though. We checked out and went into the car. Halfway on the drive home I noticed blood on his paws and all over my cloth car seat. My poor pup's nails had been clipped too short, and no one at the desk told me what had happened to him. Luckily I have hardwood floors so the trail of blood left behind my dog when we got home was cleanable. I just feel so terrible for him that this happened. My husband called in and was offered a discount next time he gets groomed, but I don't think I want to take him back where no one told me about hitting his quick when his nails were trimmed. read more

I have visited on two occasions recently--both times I was greeted and assisted by Andrea. She was fantastic! So helpful and friendly, knowledgeable and despite the fact I interrupted her stocking shelves, she assured me I wasn't bothering her and assisted me with alacrity. Avoid the new hire female white short faded pink hair. She had my senior dog for over an hour and 14 minutes. I went in and asked for a status on the wait (I wanted to see if I had time to run another errand). I got a call to tell me to come get my dog. That she wasn't ready. All she had done was given her a bath and hadn't done her nails or ears yet. That she had to turn away another dog because she wasn't finished with mine (not my fault) and that I'd be charged the VIP fee. When I asked why I was being penalized by her lack of time management with charging me a VIP fee when she hasn't even done the basic package things. She started stuttering, avoiding eye contact, fake clicking her mouse on her computer, repeating how she had to turn another dog away because she lacks proper time management. I could hear her and other girl talking crap about me in their grooming room while I was still in that small glass check-in room. Nice. -_- It's a shame I will no longer be going there anymore from this behavior. Kenny is amazing and I usually go with her, but couldn't this time and now she ultimately takes the loss because of her new coworkers behavior. I wont support a company that tries to overcharge without even delivering the basic package to begin with. Over two hours for that unprofessional experience. read more

I have been taking my two dogs here for grooming for almost two years and am very happy with the service they get. Trisha does a wonderful job and she is the best groomer I have brought my dogs to. I am very disappointed in the way this company allows its employees to disrespect its customers and when you talk with the manager they act like you are bothering them to no end. No one answers the phone (groomers) and they made me feel like they don't like my business because I'm black. took my schnauzer in for grooming. I would have done him myself but couldn't so thought I would try here. when I came to pick him up his body was cut good but his face was shaved, even his eyebrows. looked odd and can effect his hair. she shaved his whiskers, beard and eyebrows. I've had a pretty rough couple years as a lot of people I'm not excusing my behavior and I will admit I got a little snippy with the groomer because I was hurrying to make an online appointment and I may have been impatient when I asked what time the groomer got in because it was scheduled for 930am and no one was there yet? I don't remember exactly what was said as I've been grieving the loss of my mother so my memory has been lapse, but I do remember apologizing and giving a big tip even though they charged me almost $20 more for her groom? So now I just happen to have 1 visit till my free one and I have to call and set up an appointment, it is such a pain to get ahold of someone by phone and who is going to be in a good mood having to go in face to face to set up something so easily online! My dog has been going to this store since she was a puppy, she even got her first puppy training class at 7 weeks, she's almost 4. Took my Chocolate Lab to Petco after a bad experience at Petsmart. Kenny was really awesome especially with my big, energetic, 90lb dog! The store associates in the retail area are very helpful, but the grooming department- particularly the manager- is terrible. They had a groomer there, Sarah, who groomed our dog twice in the last year and did a fantastic job. However, the most recent time I called, they told me Sarah no longer worked there. The grooming manager was rude, hung up on me, and after leaving several messages with their grooming department to book (online booking isn't available) an appointment, we took our business elsewhere. read more

This review isn't so much for Petco, but for one of their dog trainers. We have been to Bill at this Petco for 3 sessions of training. He is awesome! When I called and the person talked him up and recommended him, I figured he was just doing his job. Immediately myself, my boyfriend, and my dog absolutely felt the same way about him! He is very focused during the training sessions, but in a laid back manner that keeps the dog calm. We still have 11 more classes with him, but have already seen a huge improvement in our dog's behavior. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for someone good. He is also great about working with our hectic schedule, so that's a major plus! read more

I will never bring my dog back to Petco on Watson road!!! Instead of waiting 3 hrs for grooming I had to pay $10 extra.dollars for express and it still took 2 hrs and 45 min. And the grooming was terrible. It will take quite a while to get her looking normal again!!!! read more

I called this location again to confirm that they had Royal Canin Mini Puppy food in 13 lb. bags. They told me they were out and to try back in two days. This is by far the worst Petco in the area. The workers have nasty attitudes and never look like they're happy to do their job. The grooming department never answers calls and will send you to voicemail even though you can see them through the window completely available to take a quick call. The groomers will ignore you when they see you outside of the window instead of greeting you as they should. Honestly just don't waste your time. I wouldn't want to be around the workers and I definitely wouldn't trust my pet in their care. Just go to a different location. read more

Tried to go in for a quick nail trim this afternoon. Jeanette in the grooming salon was literally the worst person I've ever encountered in any customer service situation, ever. I asked her what the cost of a tooth brushing was and her response was "I don't have time." When I clarified that I was just asking for the cost, and just needed the nail trim today, she said "I don't have time to look it up." She keyed in my info and said my rabies was out of date, which makes sense because he just got his shot last month and I hadn't been in the salon since, so I said "Oops, I'm sorry I don't have my paperwork on me, can you please call my vet to get the info (standard procedure for them)." I'm standing there with my dog wiggling all around, just my wallet and my keys in hand, and she looks at me, obviously irritated, and asks if I have the number. I say no, and she sighs and sticks a list of numbers at me to see if it was on this list. This is where is went from being slightly weird and annoying to totally insane. As I'm looking at the list she starts complaining about how she's so frustrated because all the other Petco employees aren't helping her and they should (based on my past experience as a Petco employee, I'm about 99.9% sure this is not possible since the salon is considered separate from the store.) I say "yeah, that does sound frustrating" and she continues, getting more and more upset and complaining about how she has so many dogs back there and no one to help her and this is so frustrating and she doesn't have time for this, etc. etc. and going on and on about how upset she is with how busy she is, getting more and more loud the whole time. Shocked with what was actually happening right in front of me, I just turned and said "well, we're just gonna go then, since you don't seem like you're in the right attitude to be handling my dog" and start to leave, and she starts following us out going off about "yeah, that's right, that's probably a good idea for me, and for you." ....WHAT THE SERIOUSLY? Who actually says that to a customer, standing there with their dog? No matter how busy or frustrating your day is, you can't ever take it out on customers and especially not their animals. This insane person has literally no business handling any animals. Groomers need to be able to remain calm and confident so they can handle animals while using sharp tools on them. I am so glad we walked out of there and I didn't mistakenly let this frazzled, rude, incapable and junkie-looking disgrace of a pet handler touch my dog anywhere. We got a couple things at the store and after we checked out and were walking out, Jeanette was walking our right in front of us to smoke a cigarette! Too busy for all the dogs you've got sitting in kennels back there? Totally cool to go stand right in front of the door to smoke? Obviously the Petco grooming salon needs to hire more people so the employees don't get inundated to this point of personal frustration, but regardless -- Jeanette could have said "I'm so sorry for your wait but I am all booked up tonight and cannot take on anymore dogs right now, but can we schedule you an appointment for tomorrow?" Or she could have said "sorry it's going to be quite a while before I can get to your dog, and I don't want him to have to wait in the kennel for hours to get a simple nail trim, so would you mind coming back in a couple hours?" Or literally anything else other than what she DID say. Jeanette has no business handling animals if she cannot handle herself personally, and prioritizes smoke breaks over getting to all the dogs sitting back in their kennels. This is a huge disappointment because I always held Petco grooming to a much higher standard, since as a former employee I was always impressed by their care and attentiveness to the animals and customers. But, as long as this disgrace of a person is working there, we will NEVER return. Time to find a new grooming salon for us! It's only a matter of time before Jeanette generates a headline about an accident or death related to her negligence of the animals she's entrusted with. Disgraceful. read more

this location provides the equipment and food that i need for my dogs. i had to replace one of the Kong's for our older dog and get more "Mother Hubbard" cookie treats for her as well, though I was disappointed with the MH selection: they only had minis and regular-sized biscuits (and I needed the larger ones for our large doggie). when i got to the checkout, the MH biscuits were priced incorrectly, but the staff were nice enough to give me a discount because of the price discrepancy. the organic dog food (for our puppy) is in a separate section from the 'normal' dog food, so it's easier to find for me. there's nothing special to write home about except that the location is clean and well lit. there are fewer staff in the evenings and may be difficult to solicit help on items while one the floor shopping. read more

Unlike Petsmart ... where Hi's and Bye's are forced , the cashiers look miserable and they hate to deal with your spoiled pet, PETCO is amazing . He's a nervous dog, and I used to worry taking him to a groomer would traumatize him. I was wrong. The groomers here do such an excellent job. You can watch your dog being pampered through the glass. This Petco is awesome. We have a new lab puppy that needs some training. We decided to check out the puppy play time and potty training class on Fridays. It was a great class and the staff are wonderful. First the staff are very welcoming to us. They talked to us about our questions and helped with purchasing some things. Now the class was even better. Elizabeth the trainer is awesome!!! She has great tips and she herself is a trainer for service dogs. We came away with very helpful tips from a free class. We plan on paying for the 6 week training course just because Elizabeth has a lot to teach us and it is helpful. read more

I came to this store based on recommendations on here and I'm very happy I did. I found that my cat had fleas and I went there to get help on how to get that resolved. The GM was very friendly, approached me as I walked in and asked if I needed help. He set me up with Anita to pick out supplies and she was extremely knowledge and nice. Do NOT go to Petco on Watson and have 'Jen' as a groomer. She was going to call the police on me because I'd not been there before and had wadded up (to cram in my pocket) my pets vaccine record. She called the 'store manager' to report me. The 'manager' agreed with me. I will never go back to PETCO on Watson again. read more

We love taking our Goldendoodles to Sammy. She is the best! Cudos to the other groomers there too. Everyone is super nice and sweet to our dogs. Love the way they look after Sammy does her thing with them. Highly recommend this location and Sammy for grooming. read more

The store is okay. I am very pleased with the Nature's Recipe cat food they carry here (which is not at Petsmart). It is the only food my cat has ever been able to keep down AND helps with her hairballs. However, the staff seemed to have less knowledge about cat food than I did and they don't exactly jump at the opportunity to help you it the aisles. Plus on 2 occasions I have had to search for someone to check me out. Not terrible experience but not fantastic either. read more

While close and much needed in the area, I was fairly disappointed from my first visit to the brand new petco location. My puppy had an accident in the store and I was going to clean it up, no problem... But considering I had two dogs(one pulling me one way and the other sitting on it's bum) it was quite a challenge. I finally caught the eye of a worker who walked by and says "ugh ew" and I politely asked him where I could find cleaning supplies to clean up my puppy's mess.... He brought me back a few paper towels and left. Another worker walked by and just looked and walked away. Call me crazy but if I see someone obviously struggling to hold onto two leashes and clean up poop, I'd lend a hand right away! Thankfully two ladies helped me and held my dogs while I cleaned up. Besides those two older male workers, I did come across two younger male workers who were friendly and very helpful. Needless to say, I won't be bringing my dogs back around the store anytime soon. I'm being very generous in giving 3 stars. I did eventually get what I came for and was helped by those 2 friendly workers. Minus two stars for the grumpy workers :-/ read more

Walk into this store and the stench of ferrets hits you in the face. So gross. I would rather work on a farm than shop in a store that smells like ferrets! I found what I was looking for. When I checked out, the female cashier (not entirely sure if it was a woman. Yeah, it was that hard to tell) droned on and on about her dead guinea pigs. I had my bags in my hand and she was going on about how she dressed them in their costumes to bury them. It was freaking creepy. I eventually had to politely cut her off and say I had to get home. There were 2 people waiting behind me! This store is convenient in a pinch, but I would rather drive farther to go to Petsmart! read more

Best customer service out of all Petco stores by far! So genuine and helpful! They take time to make sure you're leaving with what you want/need, took returns for items I wasn't entirely happy with but wasn't expecting to be refunded for either, and always have great advice regardless of if their advice leads to a sale.
