I was recommended to Spotlight by a fellow Bernese mountain dog owner. It is difficult to find a groomer in the St. Louis area that even answers the phone these days, but that was not at all an issue with Spotlight. My call was answered right away and I was able to make an appointment with Steve easily. At the appointment, Steve was very helpful in explaining the process. Pippa stayed at Spotlight almost all day, and I could tell when I picked her up that she had a blast. She also looked and felt AMAZING. She has never felt softer. I was recommended to Spotlight by my neighbor, and I'm so happy we went! I have a Mini Australian Shepherd who's full of anxiety, especially toward men, but Steve and the staff did an awesome job with her. They even offer for the dogs to socialize so they're not in a kennel all day and I think that really helped her first experience! Not to mention she looks perfect and is super soft. Steve did a great job on my Sadie. I will probably take her back there because it is convenient when I am at work and because he did do a great job on her haircut. The place could use a little cleaning up. It is kind of dirty looking-- which i do understand, it is hard to keep the place clean when you have a lot of dogs around. You can tell that Steve really loves what he's doing. And I feel like the dogs are well-treated there. My dog Jax HATES having his nails trimmed. I called last minute because they were so bad and he got me right in. It took less than two minutes and Jax had NO PROBLEMS. This was a big win for me since he is so sensitive around his paws. He was so great with Jax and helped calm my nerves since I can usually hear Jax crying. I couldn't recommend this place enough. Steve is a god send to my dogs and genuinely an amazing person! I have a 115 lb dog that refuses to go in to any building that smells like dog. It has always been so embarrassing and hard for me to get him to walk in to groomers, doggy daycare or petco. Steve gives me little pep talks to ease my anxiety on his reminder call because he knows how bad I feel about having a anxious pup. Steve, aka the dog whisperer, walks my pup in for me with such ease and is so gentle. He has taught me tips and trick on training and taking care of my dogs long hair in between grooming. I cannot say enough great things about this place. The owner, Steve, and his staff are the type of people who truly love dogs (and all pets but I have a dog). As far as I'm concerned, these are the only people I can trust with my little friend. My dog is very feisty and bites when he's nervous or mad. But Spotlight knows how to work with him, they don't loose their cool or get frustrated and they get the job done. We've been turned away by other groomers because of his attitude but not Spotlight. I truly don't know what I'd do without this place. Well... I guess I'd have a filthy, unkempt dog! If you're anywhere near south city, take your dog here for grooming!! I would say, I found the best groomer in our area! I've been taking my yorkie to Spotlight Pet Service ever since we moved to our new house close to them a year ago. I knew from the very first day I took him there that they're the best people for my dog. My yorkie is 12 years old. So I didn't usually have any problems about my dog even though I was taking him to other groomer before I knew about this place. But this place just made it so extra that we don't even have to worry about anything if I take him there for a couple hours because I trust them on how they treat dogs. They've always been concern about my yorkie's health and condition because they would always discuss about it to me and give me advice on what we should do if they're noticing something that we can fix ourselves and not end up taking him to a vet since he's a little bit old now. I've never had any problems with them and I don't think I will ever have in the future. They're just super caring not just for dogs but also customer's simple concern too upon setting up appointment and time with them. And one last thing, they're a little bit cheaper than other places out there! read more

I've been using Steve since before he opened Spotlight. I would never go anywhere else. He does excellent work and is always willing to discuss any aspect of dog grooming about which I might have a question, from pricing to styling. My dogs are rescues and have many "quirks" that we've discovered as we lived with them--none have been unsolvable and the dogs always look great. read more

I've always been leery to send my pup to a groomer because of all the horror stories I've heard. Usually when I "groomed" him, it was me taking him to a self-service type place and I would watch them while they clipped his nails (I'm too afraid to do that myself!). Spotlight is located in the area I grew up, and due to the prices I decided to give it a whirl. I couldn't be more pleased! I was scared dropping him off... But I could see how clean and "comfortable" the placed looked. I paid extra for Bo to have open play, because I didn't want him to be put into a cage after his grooming session. Bo is a chocolate lab which can get a bit pricey with all the hair removal and due to his larger size, but still their prices are very reasonable. I think I paid a little over $50 after the tip for a full groom session. The owner is always the one I have dealt with doing the check-ins and picking Bo up. He also handles all appointments. It's very reassuring to see how he handles the dogs and how he runs his business (himself!). Highly recommend this place! read more

I have been going to spotlight pet since it opened and would never use any other groomer but Steve. Steve has cared for and groomed my Giant Schnauzers for years and his work is spectacular .... but even more important my dog loves to go and comes home exhausted from a day of play and is groomed to perfection. If he notices any change or anything of concern he brings it to my attention with suggestions that would help. I take my long-haired kitty, Freddy, to be groomed here, and I can't imagine ever taking him somewhere else. I believe the owner genuinely enjoys helping animals, and Freddy always comes home looking fantastic. Other places I called wouldn't even groom cats, or only would on specific days, but Spotlight has a wide variety of grooming options for kitties. Even better, I bring my other cat in with me when I go pick up Fred, and they trim her nails for me right there. (She's a short haired cat and doesn't need regular cuts, just the nail trims, or I'd have her in there for grooming, too.)
