Thank you to Sarah at Petco, south Tigard ... for grooming my "aggressive" dog today. I had taken him to another groomer here in town when I first arrived I'm May or June. She called me to come get Oliver after 15 minutes of her starting his grooming, because he was so bad. ‍ (I'd never heard that in 6 years of having him, and regular grooming, with various groomers!) She even said he had tried to bite her (she told me she had her arm around her head, trying to "calm him down??" ) Anyway, after being fearful (I'm sorry) of Petco's grooming salon, I saw how well Sarah had done on Alicia's dogs, so chatted with Sarah, and she felt she could "handle" Oliver. It turns out he adored her, gave her kisses right away, and didn't so much as lift a lip to warn her of anything while she groomed. She said he did great, and he even gave her kisses on the table. I believe this, as he wanted to stay after he was done!! She also had to shave out mats, and blend in, where I had hacked (lovingly) with scissors. I am beyond pleased with the outcome. To start, Hunter was wonderful! Despite being clearly busy, he made sure to keep an eye out on the front and acknowledge us (by politely saying excuse me as they passed us by). They greeted us at the register and seemed to genuinely want to be helpful and attentive. My family and I asked for help picking out some Cherry Shrimp and Hunter happily walked us back to pick them out. The register got a line built up and Hunter politely excused themselves to check out the people waiting. We were more than happy to wait for our turn, as we understood the register mattered more. Unfortunately, all of our troubles came when Tara walked up suddenly to help us instead.... She immediately had an attitude with my curious [and respectful] toddler who was standing in front of the tank and interrogated us adults about the tank we had with "Is your tank established??" in a blunt snooty tone. Not wanting us to get off on the wrong foot, I tried to keep the tone cheerful and responded with a smile and a "Yes". Before I could even finish that one word, she interrupted with "How many days?" and waited in silence staring at me to answer. This began to feel less like a helpful interaction at a store and more like a bully relishing in a moment... I hesitantly answered "Three days..." SHE SNORTED AT ME and sneered "That's not established." She went on a spiel about tank cycling, bacteria loading, fish health, etc, etc. which would have been fine IF she was doing to teach and encourage.... instead she was enjoying making us feel stupid and herself superior. I was embarrassed, shocked, and totally caught off guard with her pompous attitude. I'm plenty used to dealing with annoying dog snobs online, but to have an animal snob be THIS bold and rude to a customer face to face, especially in front of our kids, was beyond my comprehension. I do not have a thin skin.... I run dogs in Agility and have been part of the purebred dog community for years where things can get a little cutthroat in certain corners. Needless to say, we left without any shrimp even with her huffy "I'll still get you the shrimp if you want..." She ruined what was a happy moment getting more supplies for our kid's birthday tank. Coming from an ex-animal snob, dog trainer, and ethical dog breeder: Caring about animals doesn't need to come at the cost of bullying people. read more

Was going to the South Tigard location. Had a good experience the first three times with one groomer who was professional and pleasant. I don't require a lot but I do expect not to be treated rudely. My last visit on 12/22 was with another groomer who was just rude. Completely inappropriate. Not sure why she was so unhappy. And she didn't do a good job. Cut was uneven and she didn't do his ears which was paid for and requested verbally that morning. I understand the holidays are stressful, but I was pleasant and not demanding and her manner was just not acceptable. I did try to talk with a manager about it and basically the excuse is that the holidays are stressful for the employees. No interest in understanding my experience. Will never go to this store again for supplies or grooming. Too many businesses out there that care about customer service. And reading other reviews you'll notice that they ban people who have made complaints or have anything negative to say. The culture of this store is immature and unprofessional. Please give it a wide pass. And please don't take your pup there. read more

Took my female wire haired Terrier in to Tigard South Petco for a grooming. At check in the grooming employee asked if I wanted her beard trimmed. I stated no. I stated to not touch her "furnishings" - that's a dog term. When I checked out her beard and whiskers were cut short. I did not complain to the check out employee as it was a different person. That employee asked how they did and I said great and gave her a $10.00 tip. The rest of the groom was great - they just cut her beard and whiskers off, against my instructions. I am not 100% sure who performed the actual groom but I believe it was the employee who was present when I checked out. Possibly bad communication between employees. So I gave accurate feedback on this issue on the Petco website for this work expressing my dissatisfaction. A bit later I get a call on my personal phone from the check-in employee who stated I told her to trim the beard/furnishings. I stated she was incorrect. This is where a professional Petco employee should have apologized for any misunderstanding and that would have been that. This employee however became belligerent, told me that I had asked for the beard to be trimmed (I get this dog groomed all the time - I always tell them to not touch her face) and that I was now BANNED from HER store. All because I gave her negative feedback and disputed what was an obvious miscommunication and an actual mistake on some employees part. So I called the store "Manager" and will now get a refund - including the tip. Not because of the mistake, because of the belligerence and poor customer service. BANNED from a store because you got bad feedback on a mistake of your creation? Good luck with that. I wont insert the name on the receipt here but I could. Needless to say I will be banning myself from Petco as there are a lot more customer centric places where I can spend my money. When in today to return my dogs food that she refuses to eat now. She is 14 and has liver disease so she is very picky about what she eats. We have to keep switching her food up. I have an unopened bag of food and Jeff made such a big deal about how they don't carry the food (I get it auto delivered). He said "wow well since we don't carry this food we just have to turn around and throw it in the garbage. Really Petco!!! Is that how you do things? You just toss it in the dumpster? This place is awful. Petco as a whole is great. But this store severely lacks. Customer service is horrible. No greetings, no assistance, lazy lazy staff. Fish are always dead....so many dead. Dog wash is dirty, never stocked and just feels extra dirty even for a dog wash. My wife and I took our dog here to get a bath an hour before the bath was closing and were turned away. 2nd time an employee was washing the bath next to us....for the entire length of our dogs bath and kept spraying us with water. 3rd time on of the older make employees kept walking past and lurking in the bathing area just staring at us a running his crotch. We wanted to enjoy our time with our dog but felt so creeped out we basically ran out there. On top of this the water faucets were all broken, our dog either had ice cold or scalding hot water and the vacuum was broken. Don't go here. Either go to Pet Smart down the road or drive to the sherwood or tualatin locations which are much better. read more

Don't bring your kids here unless you like explaining how some of the fish are 'sleeping'. And i don't mean like one or two, i mean like one or two in each and every tank. Some floating peaceably on the top, some sucked into the water circulation vents, some drifting gently to the bottom of the tank. And it's not just that i go there on bad days, when due to some coordinated plot dozens of fish commit ritual seppuku. Last time, i literally and truly saw FISH SKELETONS at the bottom of one tank. SKELETONS. So not only do they leave dead fish floating in the tanks, they leave them there so long that the flesh is eaten away and the bones can settle to the bottom. So when i was in the market for a live fish, i most certainly did not come here. I might even stop coming here for dry cat food, because seriously, eew. read more

Been going here for a while and I usually get my dog and cat food from here because they carry the brands I like. Unfortunately most times I go they "ran out" and the shelves aren't stocked! This is the last time I visit this Petco even though it's right next to where I live. Hopefully in the future they can keep there shelves stocked!! More profit for the company at the end of the day. I took my long hair kitty here to have her groomed because the only Petco cat groomer in the area is at this store. Kris did a wonderful job and was very time efficient. My kitty was well taken care of, and left with a highly professional cut. If you have to drive a little out of your way to come to this store like I did, consider it 100% worth it. read more

We come in here in between full grooming appointments to get my dog's face and nail trims. Both times he's come out looking spiffy, and it's super cheap compared to the grooming costs we usually pay. My pup loves the girls here and I feel comfortable leaving him in their hands. This Petco is only a slight step up from the other Tigard location. The staff is alright (really only 3 that are great and the only reason this isn't a one star review: Dave, Phillip, and girl with blue hair whose name I believe starts with an A), other than that, just barely average customer service. There are two girls there: One with gauges and one who's a groomer love to call the dogs that come in, chunky or fat. But the main point of my review is the trainer, Megan, and the manager, Tom. We had puppy classes with Megan and not only was she 15 minutes late to our first class so she could take her smoke break, she didn't even show up to our second class. Now Tom, he loves to sell you all the training packages as soon as you walk in, and not in a great way, in a shove it down your throat way. His selling technique is similar to that of a used cars salesman. He convinced us to buy two packages because it was the better deal, come to find out when we got our refund, no one buys two packages. When we complained about the trainer, he tried to say she was always on time (which turned out to be a lie), he not only would not let us get a word in and completely talked over us, but also tried to get us to go back to the unreliable trainer instead of the refund we asked for. He was very hesitant on giving us one, and if it wasn't for Dave, I doubt we would have ever gotten our $200+ back. Tom is very abrasive and just likes to talk over people when an issue is brought to him. He is ultimately the reason I will never shop at this Petco again and I will make sure to warn everyone of him and their trainer. It breaks my heart to cut ties with this Petco because it was worth the extra mile or so, but after the few times of the staff calling my dog fat, having a flaky trainer, and a slimy manager, never again. The general manager here Shayne is great. I purchased a ferret here and every time my boyfriend and I come in he remembers and asks us how he's doing. We had an issue with our ferret (not petcos fault but a birth defect) and had to spend a lot of money on him getting a diagnosis and treatment and Shayne reached out to me personally after I contacted corporate over the issue. Do not come here for fish if you want quality that will last. While we were looking for a fish we noticed some dead ones just laying around or stuck to filters. At least clean up the evidence! My 6 yo niece picked out the fish so I didn't get a close look at it but when we got home we noticed that it only had one eye and it was swimming like it was having seizures :( I hope the poor thing survives. The staff was friendly and informative enough but we had one person helping who was training so I'm assuming they probably have high turnover. read more

This Petco just opened in King City about a month ago. It is very conveniently located for me and the staff is very helpful. The store is nice and bright and well stocked and the items I'm looking for are easy to find. I took my Shih-Tzu Lucy in for grooming about 3 weeks ago, and they did an awesome job! She will be going here for monthly maintenance grooming from now on. I'm glad to have such a nice pet store so close to home. read more

Edit* - The manager has since called me, and issued a 100% refund, which was way more than I was expecting. Their groomers were talked to about being more clear on pricing and getting a list posted. I am very pleased with how this was handled. Still not taking my pets back, though I may buy food or litter. ------------------------------------------------------ I have never had a problem with this PetCo Before, but this made me never want to go again. Ever. I am LIVID. Their groomers are bait-switching snakes. I called Monday about flea baths - was told $10 each. Even for cats. Made an appointment for 2. When I got there: "Do you want teeth cleaning?" "How much TOTAL?" "TOTAL that's $64." "OH! No thank you, just the flea baths." "Ok, your new TOTAL is $51" "When I called the girl said $10 each. She mentioned she is new but that it is $10." "Flea baths are $10 each." "So what is the extra $31?" "The flea bath is in addition to their regular grooming bath." "Ah. Ok then. I guess I will do $51 then." Come back later; got presented a bill for $51 each. EACH. If I had known even the FIFTY before dragging my animals there I would have bought $20 heavy duty gloves and done it myself; If I had been told the actual $102 I would have absolutely walked out even WITH the animals already there. $102 is NOT $20. read more

Dropped my dog off at 10am to get groomed, was told it would be a couple hours. We went through want she needed step my step, slight mats on her hocks from hanging out in the river, otherwise just a trim and her toes. She came back a completely different looking dog. The only thing I like is that she is clean, brushed and her toes look good. When they finally called 5 hours later they apologized. Apparently the person that checked her in was not the groomer and no one told the groomer she was there, so they forgot about her... it cost $71 and was very frustrating. Safeway was out of real marrow dog bones ($1.66 per pound)so I stopped by Petco. They have bones in a freezer up front by checkout in their Tigard, OR store. One bone weighing 12 oz. was $7.99. That is just short of $12.00 per pound. Understand this is a bare bone not a USDA Prime rib eye steak. If Petco is going to hold-up their customers I would prefer that they at least hold a gun on me. We take our Maltese in regularly for training classes (by Cory - he's the BEST btw) and grooming. All the staff that we have been in contact with have been excellent and very helpful. I'm so glad to have them so close to home. I can't say enough about them. Oh, and what I LOVE the most is that I can WATCH my baby being groomed instead of leaving him, having him in a CAGE and not knowing what a stranger is doing to him. This ability makes me feel confident that he is in good hands while being groomed. The groomers are excellent! I watch them doing other dogs and they are kind and caring to them. SB read more

This PETCO store has always been our favorite. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We purchased a cat carrier at this store last April and when we took our cat to the vet recently we found it had come apart at the zipper. My wife had kept the receipt so we went in yesterday to see if we could exchange it. No problem, the guy working the checkout counter said to go pick up another one and exchanged it, no questions asked. I recommend this Petco store and am glad it's in our neighborhood. read more

Holy cow. I thought I'd make an appointment for grooming since this place is closer than where I usually go. I couldn't get past the phone call. No greeting, abrupt, no caring about what kind of dog I wanted to bring in or what I wanted done. When I said I didn't have the rabies paper handy, no offer to contact my vet and get via fax. Said I needed to pick it up myself. She couldn't get me off the phone fast enough. I won't be calling back. I've dealt with three other grooming salons, I've never encountered this sort of disinterest in my business. read more

I will never bring my dog back here again. I brought my Lhasa Sophie in for grooming because it was a more convenient location for me. The "grooming manager" was the one who would be grooming my dog so I was excited and that made me calm down a bit. But when I went to drop my dog off I realized the grooming manager Lauren was only about 18 or 19 years old! I was kind of nervous leaving my dog with someone this young because my normal groomer is very experienced. But being me, I of course was too embarrassed and polite to ask if anyone else could do my baby. So I reluctantly left her there and went to do some errands. I didn't get a call for nearly 5 hours, and when I did I sent my son to pick up our dog. When my son brought her home I was absolutely horrified. My dog was completely uneven around her face, her ears were not cleaned out at all (still hair coming out of ears and wax build up), and she had razor burn all around her private areas. Now let me be clear, my dog had NO mats in her fur. When I called back to complain and I spoke to Lauren and she told me my dog had mats and that's why there were burns, but that's a lie because I brush and comb my dog DAILY. I ensure that she never has a SINGLE mat and I get her groomed once every 8 weeks. Also if this is the case why wouldn't she have told me over the phone when she called to let me know my dog was ready? I can assure you I will never make this mistake again. I ended up taking Sophie to my regular groomer at the Tigard Petsmart location for her to fix poor Sophie's face and ears. Also the groomers there informed me that the burns were not from mats but were clearly razor burns from the blade being too hot. I've been going here for over 4 years and NEVER received my dog with razor burns and it never took 5 hours either. I will never make this mistake again. Good Riddance Petco. read more
