I came here after rescuing two abandoned kittens to pick up some essentials. I ended up keeping one, and my coworker took the other. It's my first time ever having a kitten, so I was hoping for some advice and assistance. The store is pretty chaotic, and if you don't know exactly what you need, it can be hard to find things. Brought my dog for grooming, Girl who was supposed to do the grooming was not friendly at all, her facial expressions said it all.. I was hesitant to leave my dog,but took a chance. I told them the dog might be anxious and would try to snip but did not bite, she is only 2 and weighs 11 lbs. I took most of her matting out, Her body was pretty shave down except her face and legs. They told me it would take over 3hrs. They called me within 2 hrs. When I got there, they complained that she was trying to jump out of the bath and was trying to bite when they were doing her face. To top it off, what was supposed to be 70$ turned into 115$, because they had to use dematting 3x at 15$ each time. They told me they would not do her again. To get a private groomer. My dog is 10 years old. She is usually playful, as well as a calm and happy dog. I took her to the Waterbury Petco located in the Brass Mill plaza. When she came home she was pretty normal, playing with us and all, but when the night came she started acting strange, hiding from us and licking herself more than usual. We put her on the bed with us and as soon as she laid down we noticed her redder than usual. We looked at her belly and we saw so many rashes! She also had a cut under her "arm". She has gotten haircuts there before and nothing like this ever happened, so I was very confused by what happened and all i could feel is sad for what she went through. Once i got there she almost jumped on my skin and kept pushing on me almost asking to take her away from there, I should've known since that moment. Update: The staff was completely cooperative and amazing! They talked to us calmly, explained that they didn't know what had happened and maybe it was an allergic reaction, as this has never happened before. We were walking in with our service dog in training and we were asked to leave. The manager or employee (I'm not sure if they were a manager) was completely rude to us. This is not only illegal to ask a service dog to leave but unethical. Of all places I cannot believe a petco said we couldn't be in their store. What a rude bunch of people in the grooming department. Tried calling for 2 weeks, left multiple voicemails and never heard back. Booked online and they cancelled. Had to go into the store to book an appointment and was met with an extremely rude woman. Claimed my dog was aggressive. Never once told me anything other than "was a bit difficult". Never heard my dog growl let alone act aggressive. I truly believe they hurt my dog for that to be true. I go to Petco 98% of the time for my dog's grooming appointments. My dog took a strong liking to Courtney, and my dog can be very nervous given she is an 80 lb. pit rescue. My dog can't jump in the car fast enough when I say "we're going to see Court". She absolutely loves her. And I know Courtney cares for my pup too. Whenever I pick her up, she is wagging her entire body with a huge smile from ear to ear. My pup is so clean, smells wonderful, nails perfectly trimmed, ears sparkling clean and teeth brushed. Been going to Courtney since 2021 and will only go to her. She's amazing! Thank you for keeping my pup happy and clean. read more

I took my small 10 lb dog to be groomed. I got the worst customer service for one of the technicians for grooming. She kept trying to add other stuff for the grooming to get more money out of me. When I called to make the appointment they told me it'd be around $45 which is average but when she went to give me the paper to sign it said $77. I told her I have never paid that much for grooming. My dog plus charge an extra cuz she said he had it undercoat which he couldn't have cuz I just had had her done just about a month ago so there's no way she had a lot of undercoat. I have never dealt with somebody so rude in my life. I would never step foot in another Petco And to top it off I told her go ahead and do it anyways. But then she called me 5 minutes late and said my dog tried to bite her when she was grooming her, which I know she didn't. She just didn't want to do her liar liar pants on fire. I went to bring my puppy yo get groomed , as I did book his sppt online. Put in what I needed and one requirement was MATTING. It did not specify for me to put how much. So when I arrive groomer Cortney looked at my puppy and said "OH NO " with a look on her face like as if I was out of my mind bringing him there. She was so rude , making all kind of disgusted looks on her face like she didn't want to bother doing the job. I feel she made up excuses as I asked her what is wrong with her looks she's is giving me . She made my daughter so upset , she cried. She slammed the pen on the counter , says if you don't want to leave your dog here then DONT. I will never ever go back there. As when I picked him up , the other groomers were whispering across from each other by covering their mouths so I wouldn't see what they were saying. They made us so uncomfortable , like I was neglectful to my puppy. I only chose here because it was the only place I can get an appointment. If I could only give this establishment half a star, I would. Courtney and Angel are unprofessional and discriminatory. I have brought my dog to this establishment twice and was harassed by the groomers both times. First on his vaccinations, then on the false claims that he was aggressive. I have a twelve pound shih tzu. He's the sweetest. He regularly plays with children. And frankly their quality of care is awful! I never heard or saw him growl or nip at anyone and yet I was told he would need a muzzle. Inaccurate! I will never return. I will never be a Petco patron again. read more

I tried this store again, assumed the management had changed and it would be better managed. Wrong! It actually didn't look like the store had any employees, just the women at the register looking at her phone. I actually needed something from petco and decided to check out the Wallingford location. What a difference, friendly staff willing to answer questions, and greet you as you walk in. Unfortunately Wallingford isn't that close so I will order from Chewy in the future. My dog was scheduled for a grooming and upon arrival, Courtney was already expressing her apprehension about grooming our very sweet golden doodle. We received a call an hour later that she would not groom him due to aggression. Our dog would never harm a fly. We went to pick him up and spoke with the manager, Gary, reporting that our dog was "too nervous." The dog was not groomed and no apology received from anyone at this establishment. Courtney is the worst at the grooming center!!! First at dropping my dog off, Courtney seem annoyed to have to do a shih tux. She didn't look like she felt like doing the work. My tiny dog wouldn't get her comb or cut her legs. So she called me and told me I needed to get her. I told her I was at work and that she can leave her legs undone and focus on everything else. I understand that the employees are there to try to sell you things but the way this girl went about it really pissed me off. She was really nice at first when we wanted to look at the gecko. She explained that they bite and showed us a friendlier one that was double the price. She explained what it eats, what it needs and how much bigger itll grow and how it adapts to the environment and if the tank is small it won't grow so big. We told her that we were going to get the 10 gallon tank and she said okay without saying anything further. When we went to pick out a tank looking for a smaller one there was a guy there (not sure if he was a worker or a customer) but he made it very clear that even a 20 gallon would not be able to hold the reptile and we would have to eventually get a much larger one when it grows because they tend to get really big. If we weren't going to get the big one in the end we would just be wasting money. That was the complete opposite of what the employee had told us and needless to say we were in shock and disappointed. We had already had the reptile in a box and signed papers and had to tell her to put it back. Then everything we asked about "yeah that's going to grow pretty big too" and she was now in a rush and no longer helpful. read more

Kind of ridiculous that on a Sunday afternoon, no one else in the store beside the two other people I was with and not one of 3 employees greeted us or asked if we needed help. We went in there looking to buy a 10 gallon fish tank, stand and fish. There was two employees working right at the fish station as we were looking and not one word was uttered. We were in there for a about 15 minutes and by this point we decided on 20 gallon tank. I went looking for a cart or anything that we could use to carry the stand and tank. I go towards the entrance and almost bump into an employee and she just stares at me. She doesn't ask what I needed ( I know I had a puzzled look on my face) and I go back to meet the people I was with and we decided to leave. They did not deserve our business. Upon arrival 15 minutes prior to closing, the tank lights were off. But that's what I get for patronizing a corporate outlet. I stood in the field of vision of an associate who went on at length over a minor sale while I was looking at a ticket item. When he was done, he walked by my partner and me. When I eventually approached him, he called somebody on the radio. We purchased a larger item and he sighed when we asked him to help us out to the car with it. I've taken my dog to a few people in the past, but Courtney at the grooming center in Petco has been the best. My dog Abby really seems to like her, and she always trims the nails nice and short without getting the quick. My dog's nails are black, so I know that can't be easy. She also gives her a bath, brushes her teeth, and cleans her ears. I just got a second dog that will be seeing her as well. read more

Brought my dog there to be groomed. My dog is a nervous dog. She's a rescue dog who since I got her has been afraid of new people and people in general. She is not aggressive one bit. I brought to be groomed and explained that to the girl there. I said she is nervous but not one bit aggressive. The Petco worker seemed like she didn't even wanna be there. When I walked in the door she was on her cellphone talking about how someone didn't wanna work and I had to wait at least 3-5 min for her to finish up her personal call. I could tell she didn't wanna be bothered with my dog and her nervousness. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it's hard to groom a nervous dog. My dog isn't a little dog so I'm sure the first thing you think is she will bite bc she looks tough. The girl didn't even give it 5min before she was paging me back to get her. She said she won't let me near her and we don't muzzle dogs here. I said what? Why would you muzzle my dog? Did she try to bite you?!! The girl responded well no but given by how nervous she is we don't muzzle here. She wouldn't even cut her nails! If you're gonna be a groomer be prepared to deal with nervous dogs because let's be honest what dog is happy about going to the groomer?!! I brought her someplace else and told them about what happened at petco and his response was when I picked her up after being fully groomed that Petco has NO idea what they are talking about! read more

I live in Connecticut between your Danbury and Waterbury locations and i normally visit the Danbury store and they are always very acommodating and friendly as a business should be. On Friday, July 18th I called Danbury to see if I can get trim for my 3 pound Yorkie. They were booked so I called Waterbury to see if they had any openings. They did so I made the appointment and brought her in at 6:30. The girl who took my information was nice and said that they would page me when ready. It was 5 minutes and when I went in the room to pick up my puppy, I noticed that there was still some hair that needed to be trimmed so I asked if it could be re- done. The groomer came out and was very rude and said that my dog bit her and she accused me and my son of wrestling with the dog which causes dogs to bite. She also told us that my dog needs obedience training. I responded to her that she is only a puppy who nips when tied down like any dog unfamiliar to whats going on. She made a rude comment to her co-worker that obviously I didnt care. I told them to forget about retrimming her and I would just take her and leave the store. I also mentioned that it was my first time and last of coming in to that store because of her attitude and that is no way do talk to customers. As i was standing in line to pay, the groomers assistant came over to me and said that I didnt have to pay. Like that was going to make it all better. THE GROOMER NEEDS OBEDIENCE TRAINING!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK. THEY DID A TERRIBLE JOB WITH MY PUPPY. VERY ARGUMENTATIVE WITH CUSTOMERS AND NO PEOPLE SKILLS. read more
