I normally do not leave negative reviews, but this experience left me genuinely disappointed…read more We brought our puppy to The Dog and Hydrant for three grooming visits total. During the very first visit at only around 3 months old, they mentioned he was somewhat difficult around the face/head area and were unable to fully complete the trim. Fair enough -- he was a very young puppy experiencing grooming for the first time. What makes this situation frustrating is that his second visit went completely fine. They successfully completed his undercarriage, face, and head trim with no issue reported at all. On this third visit, we were told he was "wiggly" and somewhat mouthy specifically around face trimming. We were also informed he chewed on a few nearby things, including the groomer's hair. While I absolutely understand puppies can be energetic and require patience during grooming, this is still a young dog in the acclimation stage -- not an aggressive adult dog with a history of dangerous behavior. More concerning was that his nose was nicked during the appointment, and immediately afterward we were told prescription sedation would now be mandatory for any future grooming visits. That recommendation felt excessive and honestly alarming considering the circumstances. Suggesting sedation for a puppy because he was wiggly during face grooming raises serious concerns for me about patience, handling expectations, and experience working with young dogs still learning the process. To be clear, the cut is passable and the front desk staff was polite and professional. My issue is more with the overall handling philosophy and escalation to mandatory sedation after what sounds like fairly typical puppy behavior. We will unfortunately be taking our business elsewhere.

Saying goodbye to my sweet Ollie at 18.5 years old was one of the hardest things I've ever faced…read more The team at Wine Country Veterinary Hospital met me with compassion, patience, and understanding every step of the way. I scheduled and canceled Ollie's euthanasia appointment four different times because I just wasn't ready, and they never once made me feel guilty or pressured. They even allowed me to arrive and then back out when I couldn't go through with it. That level of kindness and humanity is something I will never forget. When the time finally came, they gave Ollie such a peaceful, dignified passing, and gave me the space and support I needed. I also want pet owners to be aware that many veterinary clinics today are owned by VCA Animal Hospitals, which is part of Mars Corp. the same company behind well-known candy brands. Since that corporate takeover, many practices have become more expensive with vets and staff paid commissions on what procedures they sell! Wine Country Veterinary Hospital is independent and not owned by VCA/Mars, and it truly shows not only in their fair pricing, but in the genuine, heartfelt care they give. I am deeply grateful to have found a place that still puts compassion first. Thank you for helping me through one of the most painful moments of my life.

They listen to us and treated the bird well. They professionally trimmed his beak (several times now) and we always got the bird back in a relaxed state. At other places we got him back bleeding or in shock. Vet and techs really seems to care for the animals and so far we have not been pressured to constantly get a checkup with the beak trimming, like in many other places.

So far, we have had a consultation and a training session and we look forward to more sessions and taking the group classes when they start up soon. Brian is kind hearted, cares deeply about dogs, and has been great to work with. During the consultation, he helped set up life sized stuffed dogs to see how our dog would interact with other dogs in a safe way and helped us to pick up on cues from our dog to better understand and support our dog as she adjusts to a new home and environment. Brian provided emails with materials and homework assignments. We sought a trainer that could help with focus, pulling less on the leash, and jumping up as well as help with socialization. He has been amazing and we are grateful for all of his support. We look forward to the group classes and highly recommend Brian for anyone looking for support with training their dog. He even helps train service dogs, which I think is so awesome!

Through the material and sessions we had we were able to view our dogs situation differently which opened us up to handling ou with less frustration. She puts her heart and soul into making sure horses and humans are safe and loved. My mare recently suffered a bout of laminitis and Leah was there night and day, going above and beyond to keep Flame comfortable. Knowing that Leah was treating Flame as her own was more support than I could have ever hoped for and demonstrated that she is the consummate horse person in it for all the right reasons. The standard of care she provides is excellent: high-quality feed, deep bedding, attention to detail for grain, supplements, meds, blanketing, etc. Large outdoor arena with varied jump standards, covered indoor arena w/ lights and dressage mirrors, and trails through the forest and surrounding hills, provide year-round riding for a variety of disciplines and interests.
