I saw the Roy Rogers logo on the Rest Stop Sign and thought I would stop to get a roast beef sandwich, which Roy Rogers claims is its specialty. Turns out no roast beef sandwich, but plenty of chicken and burgers. I actually ordered a yummy fish sandwich. While eating my Roy Rogers order, I learned about the Open Road Tolling. I got lucky to meet KAREN a wonderful woman who works at this rest stop named after Peter Camiel (who was Pennsylvania turnpike commissioner 1975 to 1991 .) Karen shared with me that the artwork was created by students from Twin Valley HIgh School's Ceramic Department! There are 5 panels called "PIECES OF PENNSYLVANIA " How beautiful. Finally started my way back home after a week away and of course I had to stop to not only refuel, but to stretch my legs. I have stopped at many rest stops along Pennsylvania highways and this one was a bit of a disappointment. Now there may be a few things coming into play because of that, but I can't blame just one. It felt desolate in here. There was only two things open in here and that was it. One big reason is the pandemic, they still had some restrictions in place. It appeared that there were not enough workers for some of the establishments in here as another reason. Overall, this was not a really great space. It wasn't well maintained except the one area that was being basically maintained by the fast food restaurant. But basically, for being a rest stop, it does serve its purpose. I was able to get off my feet for a bit and rest. I was able to eat, drink and get myself right for the rest of my upcoming trip. read more

There are no choices for service areas and I'm just thankful for service areas in PA Tpke. It was a summer weekend, Saturday to be exact, so there are a lot of travelers. The bathrooms were not really clean: lots of toilet paper scattered on the floor. Somewhat smelly as well, but probably not cleaning time yet. The Peter Camiel Plaza is located in the heart of the PA Turnpike. While the Plaza is on the smaller side, they still have the suitable amount of restaurants and plenty of seating options. The restaurants inside include Starbucks, Roy Rogers, a pizza restaurant and a convince store. As other reviews note lines can form at the restaurants, but from what I have seen it is due to lack of staff. When it comes to seating there are some indoor options while they have a ton of outdoor seats. I especially like how they have a pet area with poopy bags in the front of the pitstop. Like with most pitstops, they sell gas here. Altogether, this is a solid pitstop! read more

This is a smaller rest stop right off of the turnpike. The convenience store is a bit smaller than most, but it still has a decent selection. There are plenty of other dining options and a Starbucks as well. Restrooms were in decent shape considering the number of customers running in and out. read more

Let me be clear. The Travel Plaza was fine. It was busy, but somehow clean. Starbucks was busy. Roy Rogers was busy. There was a line in the convenience store two dozen strong with most people buying food stuffs. And then there was PZA. There was no line for PZA. And for good reason. PZA alone is responsible for this one-star review because it doesn't have its own entry here on Yelp! and the management of both the company and the Travel Plaza would do well to fix that situation. PZA was one of the worst culinary experiences I've ever had and I've eaten airport pizza from a microwave. Evil chefs don't go to Hell. Their souls are baked into PZA calzones, stromboli, pizza, and meatball-ish products, left to sit under a heat lamp for hours, then reheated for unwitting travelers who will take one bite, react with disgust and throw the remains into the trash. Lady Matilda, Horseface Bob, and I stopped at the Camiel Plaza for gas and sanitary relief. Horseface Bob was starving and decided to eat a slice of PZA pizza. I don't think he tasted it, it disappeared so fast. When Lady Matilda returned from the Ladies' room, she saw the empty queue at PZA, asked Bob for his take on the product, and got a tepid shrug. If deprived of real food, Horseface Bob would eat an old sofa cushion, so he is not exactly the Gordon Ramsey of rest stop fare. I accompanied Lady Matilda to the PZA where the first thing I noticed was the unevenly cooked pizza; some blackened crust and cheese on one side of a pie from what looked underdone. The stromboli were burnt on tops and looked dried out. I refused to eat, but Lady Matilda is a taskmaster when it comes to keeping a schedule, so she ordered a specific slice from a specific pie that didn't look like it was crafted from a reference drawing provided by a crack-addled pyro. It went into the oven for two minutes and came out looking like someone held a blow torch to it. She couldn't eat it. Literally, it was too tough to chew. Fortunately, I anticipated this and was waiting in line at Roy Rogers and impressed by how the crew handled the crowd, using a system to get orders in and out quickly despite it looking like they needed two extra bodies. Horseface Bob reported even HE couldn't eat the thing and Matilda wanted a cheeseburger and fries. I added them to my order which was a Texas Pete Hot Sauce Chicken Sandwich. Faster than I anticipated, Roy Rogers filled the order. The fries were a tad underdone but hot and salty. The chicken sandwich was new to me and the sauce was a mix of Texas Pete's and mayo, which really had a nice bite to it. But PZA...the place looked like a middle school home economics classroom after a small fire put the class into a panic. Somewhere at the bottom of a dumpster in Elverson, Pennsylvania, the tormented soul of a child molesting sous chef is rotting inside the immolated remains of an uneaten slice of pizza. And well it should rot there. read more

The Peter J. Camiel Travel Plaza is a smaller scale rest stop along the Pa turnpike. While all the plazas are being redesigned and modernized for the new century, this one, while clean and efficient, and provisioned with the expected vendors from Starbucks to Roy Rogers and the ever-present Wawa like shop, this one lacks the comfort of the others on a busy day. The lines tend to knot with each other. Still, it generally does what is supposed to do; provide plumbing and victuals for the road weary traveler, and help them on their way to their ultimate destinations. It is functional and an improvement over its predecessor. Who was Peter J. Camiel? A Philly politician of the Rizzo era who was prosecuted for corruption in office, convicted, and ultimately vindicated on appeal to the higher courts. As his legacy he had this rest stop named after him. read more

This rest stop is heaven for the weary...or at least people with ants in the pants who happen to be on a trip! It contains food, coffee (offering a choice between starbucks or another shop), as well as a convenience store as well as the restrooms. My sister and grandmother appeared to have fairly decent service at Sbarro's and the other place they went to. I went to Starbucks. Determined to try something new, I asked the barista what the best new item was: hot chocolate or pumpkin spice latte? She very enthusiastically yelled "Pumpkin Spice!" in a voice that almost frightened me. But I figured it must be good, if she was that excited about it, so I ordered it. Basically the "Camel" service plaza as I so affectionately call it is the perfect place to stop between Philly and Harrisburg. You've gotta out of the Philly traffic, you're hungry - Harrisburg is still an ominous 60 miles away. Get yourself some Roy Rogers and Starbucks! The "Camel" service plaza also offers clean toilets, a Sbarro, a Nathan's and Pennsylvania souveniers, so if you actually want people to know you've been to PA - you're covered. read more

This travel plaza is a godsend. First, either you've braved the traffic on the Skyukill from Philly, OR you've been on the Blue Route avoiding suburbanites exercising their God-given right to road rage. Then you get on the PA Turnpike. You blow past the King of Prussia as it has a line of cars a mile long. With a full bladder, hungry, tired and wondering just why you didn't take Amtrak. Then, all of a sudden, this rest stop appears... Yeeepppeeeeee!!! With a Brioche Dorée, a Starbucks, a Roy Rogers, Sbarros and a Dolce Gelati. The rest rooms are up-to-date and large, and the Sunoco gas station has relatively good prices for a captive audience. A good place to take a much needed rest.... read more

Heading back to Pittsburgh, we stopped here to use the restrooms and refuel. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean, which is always nice to find. This rest stop is smaller than some of the other ones, but it serves it's purpose with a mini convenience store, Starbucks, other food places, gas station, and of course, clean bathrooms! read more

I'm used to the New Jersey tpke service stations but this one is much much better than those! I just used their bathroom and Starbucks and I was pleasantly surprised. Very nice and the service was very good. The outside aesthetics was nicer too than the typical service station. read more

Wow that was neat. This Travel plaza is a cool, relaxing rest plaza amidst the many rest stops to make in the PA Turnpike. The eating area looks very relaxing with the contemporary furniture - nice comfortable arm chairs, warm decor and colors. It almost feels like a large hotel lounge. They have Starbucks, Roy Rogers and PZA concessions, and the usual convenience store. I was impressed. read more

Horrible rest stop! We stopped on our way back from NJ. There was no running water in either restrooms. Not a single toilet could be flushed. You could not wash your hands. There were no signs posted regarding these issues. The place was disgusting. Waste baskets were full. Yes there were signs to wear masks, but you need to wash your hands. read more

Clean! This may be one of the cleanest service stations. Bathrooms were spotless. Starbucks, pza and a plus are some of the food options. There's a Sunoco gas station. Gas was fairly priced. Staff at the A plus were friendly and helpful. I overheard them offering a traveler some road trip advice. Recommend as the service station to stop at while traveling. read more

They just reopened after being closed for renovation. They need to try again. Three of the four restroom stalls I attempted to use had water leaking from the commodes, and as has been the norm, they installed the paper dispensers down too low. And the cubicles are so small you have to sit sideways to use them. The plaza in King Of Prussia is much more well designed. read more
