I recently had a water leak coming through the kitchen and couldn't figure out where it was coming from, so I called Peter Lai Plumbing. Kenji showed up on time, diagnosed the issue, and clearly explained what was going on. He found two abandoned copper pipes hidden inside the upstairs wall, and one of them had developed a small leak. He had to cut into the drywall to access the pipes, and then resolved the problem by removing the abandoned lines and rerouting the water line. The work was done efficiently (about 2.5 hours), and everything was kept clean and professional throughout the process. You can tell he knows what he's doing and takes pride in his work. The easy fix would have been to just recap the line again, but Kenji did it the right way by removing the unused pipes and rerouting the line properly. Pricing was very reasonable for the scope of work, especially considering the complexity of locating hidden pipes inside the walls. Plumbing issues during the holidays is no joke. After going through 3 weeks of trying to work with 3 different plumbers, no plumber seem to be able to fix my kitchen sink stoppage. When I felt down on my luck, I was referred to Andy Lai by my brother who claims he is the best. I was doubtful since we already had 3 plumbers who already used a snake and hydrojet. Kenji is an absolute maestro with the snake! I had another plumber out for a clogged kitchen sink. He attempted to snake it without success, and told me that the problem the original cast iron santee, and would cost $2100 to fix the pipes. Kenji manipulated the snake from a different direction, and quickly cleared the clog which was in between the kitchen sink and the cleanout, and just saved me $2K! One of my longest(well deserved) reviews written, I had a back to back sink from bathroom to bathroom get clogged up, and was unable to snake it. Called a well known plumbing company(4.2 rating on yelp) to repair the issue. Tech comes out, doesn't attempt to troubleshoot the issue, looks at a few things and concludes with upselling a "hydro jet" WITHOUT truly knowing where the clog is. Doesn't turn on any water, doesn't snake, etc. There was a strong upsell vibe without explanation. Charged me a service fee and was trying to get me to place a deposit for the hydrojet service and also said whatever parts they needed to replace would be extra if damaged from the procedure... They took the service fee, I still had a clogged sink, gave me no real diagnosis, and were in and out in 15 minutes... So after that poor experience, I stumbled upon PL plumbing and spoke with Andy and in the 10 minute conversation, you could tell he was a very honest and knowledgeable person. Laid out the potential risks of hydro jetting from roof, stated he will be the one to take on the task himself rather then his employees due to the risk if needed, which is very commendable. His break down was very clear and concise. Gave a very fair price for the presumed "hydro jet" service we needed and we scheduled the service. Fast forward to service day, Andy and Kenji come out to look at the issue and right away they start troubleshooting. Before busting out the heavy equipment, they do there due diligence. They find the clog and actually attempt snaking out the back to back clog unlike the other company, and were successful. In 20 minutes they cleared out the clog, and the hydro jetting was not necessary anymore. Throughout the whole process of it, they wore booties, were very respectable of the house they were servicing, and were communicative as well. When everything was done, they adjusted the intial quote of hyrdro jet, and charged a fair price of what was actually done. 10/10 service all around from Andy and Kenji! After experiencing and seeing so many horror stories with subpar plumbing/trade companies making pricy shortcut repairs and taking advantage of less knowledgeable customers, its a breath of fresh air to stumble across a company like Peter Lai Plumbing. Andy from Peter Lai Plumbing along with John at Bloodhound Leak Detection/Plumbing fixed a pinhole way more than a foot under the slab inside my multi-level house. Andy came within 2 hours after I called him in the morning regarding hot water leaking in the middle level, kind of between a bedroom and the laundry room. Andy precisely located the leak area behind drywall, but water was coming from under the slab, Andy had to called up John to do a thorough leak detection in the afternoon. Andy even went down to the crawl space to inspect all pipes. Andy and John gave me a few options, we ended up deciding to do a spot repair: digging the concrete under a cabinet inside the laundry room. Andy and John came back the very next morning and minimized the damage while fixing the leak in a tight space. At the end, pinhole was found and new copper pipe was replaced. Andy also fixed two leakings in my crawl space as well as some other plumbing issues a few days later, he is truly a great guy to work with. read more

I'm not knowledgeable about plumbing, but I do know how to use a drain snake, and was able to identify that my problem is my main line discharge line. I reach out a different highly regarded plumber, and was essentially told I had to install new clean outs and was staring down the barrel of thousands of dollars. Course, I expect the dog and pony show, so I get to shopping. Spoke to others, and was told the same thing, varying prices and approaches. And then I call Peter Lai. Andy shows up same day, and says, "Let's try snaking your vent first." This might be common knowledge to others, but not me. I wanted to get a second opinion as the first plumber I contacted snaked the kitchen drain pipes and stated he would need to descale the pipe in order to shave off the extra buildup inside the pipe due to neglect in maintenance. I reached out to PL Plumbing and Kenji came out to inspect our kitchen drain line the next morning. Had a washer delivered last Saturday but could not be installed due to washing machine valve frozen and could not turn the knob to turn off water. Saw Peter Lai Plumbing with good reviews and called after office hours. I am very thankful Andy picked up the call, spoke to him and sent him a couple of pictures, he quoted reasonably and said will arrive on Monday afternoon. Andy is highly skilled and was able to remove and replace the valves quickly. first time I have ever written about a service received. I can't believe the difference between Andy of Peter Lai Plumbing and the previous plumber I used 3 weeks prior. The other plumber left me hanging with leaks developed a few hours after he left and got larger by the day.
