Dr. Lorman has been my orthopedist for almost 40 years.  He has "always been there for me," throughout these many years ... and ... there have been many times when I've needed his help. From sprains to broken bones to pain so intense in my back that he hospitalized immediately to ensure that a complete diagnosis and tests were done so that  "no stone was left unturned."   Dr. Lorman operated on my wife twice to repair tears in the medial meniscus in both legs. He also operated on my son for the same problem. All three of these surgeries produced excellent results.   In all professions today where there are a few "aces" within many more "spaces." My insurance referral sent me to Dr. Lorman. I have bone on bone knee joint, and severe arthritis. I tore the tendon but Dr. Lorman would not recommend an MRI, which is the only way of seeing soft tissue. The X-ray confirmed that my knee is severe. Dr. Lorman would only gie me a 30 day supply of an anti-inflammatory, which don't work any better than aspirin. He would NOT reommend a surgeon and his bedside manner is just awful. In 50 years of seeing doctors, I have to say that this very old school doctor is the worst I've ever been to. He needs to retire. read more

Went in for an injury and all he could do was prescribe medicine & did not even care to fix the root problem causing my joint pain. I am writing this review on behalf of one of my athletes. If you can avoid this doctor....please do so under any circumstances, especially if you are a high level athlete. My athlete went to Dr. Lorman after he had already been recommended to have an MRI done asap to speed up knowing if surgery was needed or not. Dr. Lorman flat out refused the request for an MRI. To make this short, after 2,5 months the injury has not healed, Dr. Lorman successfully delayed treatment , the athletes sports career may be at risk....I call that negligence! read more

Love Dr. Lorman! Took my 2 year old for a broken tibia. Dr. Lorman was very professional and should a concern for her needs and ours (parents) as well. He was very patient with her although she did cry for a but, but made her laugh. Her twin brother was with us and Dr. Lorman made him laugh too. The overall experience was Dr. Lorman was awesome.. I workin hospital and he seemed very comfortable with children n the concerned parents.. Now the bad part about this was the front office staff.. 2 of the three girls were nice, but there was a front staff that seemed dry and very unhappy doing her job. My girlfriend and I were involved in a traffic accident. We were hit from behind by another car. As a result, my right knee was injured when it hit the dashboard. I was terrified because I had just moved here from Kansas and didn't have any doctors! My girlfriend took me to see her doctor, Dr. Lorman. When he heard we had been in an accident, he took time from his own lunch hour to see both of us! I was so scared I would need surgery. He took x-rays and told me what was wrong, and the things I needed to do to make sure my knee healed well on its own. I wanted to avoid surgery at all costs because I am a runner. It all paid off. My knee healed, and now I'm running half-marathons again. The next one up is the Ragnar! I'm so thankful Dr. Lorman respected the fact I wanted to avoid surgery and gave me the chance to heal on my own with PT and conservative care. Of course I would have let him operate if it became apparent there was no other way, but with his wonderful care, I'm running again! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lorman for almost 40 years and am very pleased. My boys also saw him. He is patient and always tells it as it is. He is not only kind but explains everything in detail so that you can understand what may be wrong.He not only bicycle rides but skiis too so he understands why one wants to continue participating in a particular sport. read more

He told me for almost 1 year that he wanted to operate,, buy I said no. All he would do is give me strong pain meds. One day I went to see him and he said that he couldn't help me if I wouldn't get the operation, he didn't give any more pills and wouldn't see me any more. He got me addictive to pain pills and then stopped them in one day, out of the blue. That was a hard few months after that. read more

I didn't want to write this review but i have to express my utter frustration disappointment with the staff/front office. On september 2014 i was in an auto accident and was injured with depressing back pain. my attorney wanted me to seek medical attention from a local orthopedic surgeon Dr Lorman was very honest of informing me that surgery was not necessary and that I needed to rest and not do anything physical for one year in order to recover from my injury. I was relieved and was on my way to a full recovery until I needed a my anti inflammatory medication re fill. The girl at the front desk was really rude when i forgot who my Dr. was. NOT COOL! I could over hear the office girl telling her co workers. This guy doesn't even know who his dr. is. Please keep in mind I was pretty jarred in this accident SO I CAN HONESTLY SAY MY PHYSICAL BODY WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. It took a week to finally get the prescription filled KEEP IN MIND I HAVE 6 BULGING DISC. I needed another anti inflammatory script re fill. wall-greens said that there was a block on the re fill. this was a friday night, I called the front office on monday just to have this Un trained staff/girl tell me theres nothing they can do about it. my response was all you have to do is call walgreen to release the medication The girl wanted to argue then proceeded to hang up on me. I called my attorney to inform him of the situation and within 5 minutes walgreens called me to say my medication is ready. wow! I dont know what my attorney did but it helped get the this office to call walgreens and release the medication. These office girls are good at not letting you talk to your DR FOR SOME REASON. A month went by DR LORMAN CALLED ME BACK AND APOLOGIZED FOR THE ACTIONS OF HIS STAFF. I talked to Theresa. we set the appointment for april 16th AT 3:15pm confirmed! I took work off and arrived 15 minutes early just to hear the front desk girl proudly announce that I missed my appointment on april 6th. RUDE! So I walked back to car and got my calendar and asked wheres Theresa? The staff couldn't believe that I would come back. They thought I was going to be embarrassed and just leave. WRONG! So they pulled me in the office so the other patients couldn't hear my frustration. These elephant girls were trying to ask condescending questions that went no where. So I stated how frustrated I was and walked out. I did call my attorney again to inform him of what had just happened. He may be calling to speak to the real office manager. DR LORMAN, I KNOW THAT YOU ARE WELL RESPECTED AND I THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME. PLEASE RE TRAIN YOUR STAFF ON HOW TO DEAL WITH THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR GIVE THEM A BROOM AND HAVE THEM SWEEP UP AFTER HOURS. I was referred to Dr. Lorman by my PCP for a knee problem. He repaired my torn meniscus in March 2009 at Torrance Memorial. He is a nice man and a very good surgeon. My only comments are: 1) he doesn't volunteer much information; you have to ask for it and 2) it can be "hit or miss" in the waiting room. Sometimes I'm in and out of there quickly; other times it's over an hour before I'm called in to an exam room. Otherwise, he did a good job. Dr. Lorman recently treated my son for a broken arm and I was very happy with the experience and the results. During our initial visit he had to re-set the bone which can be quite painful and scary for a child. Dr. Lorman used humor and just the right amount of information to keep my son calm during the procedure. Our subsequent visits to check my son's progress were quick and efficient (most of our appointments were in the late afternoon and we never had to wait more than a few minutes). He answered all of our questions and his staff was very accessible. So happy to see the final x-ray, which revealed a perfect arm. read more

After numerous visits to a number of Kaiser doctors I started looking for a new Dr. I was referred to Dr. Lorman by a friend. I went in to see him, showed him my MRI and he didn't tell me your old, overweight and have osteoarthritis. (I'm 55 and about 15 pounds overweight) like all of the Kaiser doctors told me. He told me he may have something to help me. Loved hearing those words. Went in for my last injection this morning. They are helping my knee and I can't wait to see how much they do help. I went in on crutches with a month-old, steadily worsening crushing injury to the MCL. I asked specifically about an MRI and he said he "doesn't order those unless he's considering surgery." From the look of his reviews on Vitals.com he doesn't order them at all. In one case which I didn't read until too late, he started a surgery only to find out his diagnosis was wrong! E.g. meniscal tear vs. ACL tear! Is that scary or what? He took one supine Xray, put me in an immobilizer brace, and told me I didn't need the crutches. I think he thinks I just want pain drugs. When I told him my pain was worse two weeks later he was totally disinterested. No empathy. He said he'd "consider" an MRI if it got worse next time. So if his treatment wasn't working 6 weeks in, he would "consider" knowing what was actually wrong? BIG RED FLAG. During my first visit I was making small talk and told him my spine is out of whack from walking asymmetrically. I casually mentioned I'd be seeing a chiropractor to keep myself in balance while this was going on. He told me chiropractors don't fix anything. Totally dismissive. BIGGER RED FLAG. Then, when I explained that I knew which tissues were damaged (MCL) he corrected me (maybe because he's 80 and hard of hearing) and said "No, the ACL is inside your knee". After going back and forth about it I just gave up. He wasn't listening to anything I had to say. I called a different doc to get a second opinion and maybe *gasp* an MRI. I would never let this arrogant geezer cut on me. read more

They goofed up on my paperwork, but still made me pay for forms that I did not receive. I have been living with right shoulder pain for several months hoping it would eventually go away. I knew when I injured it and since it was my right arm I continued to irritate it. My family and I have gone to Dr. Lorman for over 30 years so I gave in and made an appt. After x-rays and a through physical exam, I had a diagnosis! Tendonitis! I was given a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and a return visit in two weeks. Problem solved! The other bad reviews should not be ignored. My experience with this doctor mirrors basically every other bad review on this site. As an athlete, I've been dealing with an injury for over sixth months now. Upon walking in, he asked just enough questions to have an understanding of what I was dealing with, and then gave me a diagnosis with zero explanation. After telling me he wouldn't be doing anything to help me, I became very visibly emotional (due to the frustration of this injury and the long process of getting it resolved), and he literally didn't react. He said, "I appreciate your concern, but there's nothing I can do for you." and that was the end of the appointment. In my opinion, completely unacceptable. A doctor who is dealing with other human beings needs to have at least the tiniest ounce of compassion and empathy. In this interaction, he did not demonstrate any. read more

If Yelp allows for a 0 rating, Peter Lorman deserves it. A rating of 1 star is still too generous of a rating for this incompetent doctor. My husband came in with debilitating sharp pain in his shoulder that prevented him from even being able sit up vertically for any length of time. We were interested in having him further analyzed and. more importantly, to get to the heart of "The sharp pain". Lorman did not examine my husband and simply concluded, within the first 5 minutes of entrance into the examination room, that my husband has "classic arthritis". Before my husband went to Lorman, he was cleared by his PCP of any arthritis. We wanted to discuss this "arthritic" diagnosis further with Lorman but he dismissed our concern and clearly communicated in his action that he was more eager to get us out of his office than to take notice of the strained look on my husband face of frustration, "dis-ease", feeling vulnerable, and more confused than ever. Lorman was more interested in entering information into the computer as we were trying to talk to him so that he can document that he treated us and get us out of the office than to make eye contact with or look at my husband to realize what was going on. According to Lorman, the solution lies in "Norco" which is a fancy name for a highly addictive and strong narcotic pain killer. I told him we did not come in for Norco and pushed for him to elaborate on his diagnosis, treatment plan, and prognosis . Lorman must have felt challenged because he pushed his chair away to ask "who is the Dr. here and walked out of the room. He came back minutes later. While he was out, I asked my husband how he was feeling and confirmed he was extremely upset, vulnerable, and un-resolved. I tried to comfort my husband and told him that we will tell Lorman he is not the right Dr. for my husband and that we would go back to our PCP for another referral. When Lorman returned, we told him that we need to abort this visit; obviously we were not a good match and we would seek help elsewhere. He agreed. However, as we were walking out, the officer staff tried to give us the Rxn for Norco and were trying to give us the Rxn for Norco and to collect the $60 co-pay. We told them we did not come in for the pain killer and that we must decline payment for a service that was not rendered and walked out of the office. We reported this to our insurance and are in the process of reporting his lack of competency to Medical Review Board. Lorman is a disgrace to the Medical community and a dis-service to patients. Notice that I did not address him as "Dr.". My husband has since had 2 other X-rays and has been confirmed by his PCP and 2 other Orthopedic Surgeons that his SHARP PAIN was NOT due to arthritis. His condition is receiving help from other more competent physicians who take the time to talk to him, to look at his history, to request other tests in order to get closer to the heart of truth for a more accurate treatment plan. Not every person above 40 has arthritis, not every pain is arthritic pain, and not every one who comes in screaming in pain want pain killers. May be some of us who cannot stand up, sit up, drive, or move around without sharp pain want to know "Why in the world... all of a sudden... we went from being perfectly well.. to being....) We got a rebuttal letter from Lorman's office today along with a bill for $60. It stated that we are obligated to pay this $60 because my husband was in Lorman's office for at least 40 minutes. What was failed to mention or clarified was 30 minutes of that 40 minutes was spent sitting out in the waiting room, 5 minutes was spent in the examination room with Lorman manipulating on his computer, with his back to my husband, a few minutes of me inquiring about his diagnosis, challenging his Rxn/Tx , a few minutes of him abandoning my husband and I in the examination room, and a few more minutes of him coming back to complete what he was doing on his computer . Yes, you be the judge as to whether or not you would like to be treated by this person. As for me, I will leave it to the Medical Board Review to investigate into Lorman. When a Dr. stop caring and is only interested to medicating their patients to the point of addiction, it is time for them to move on and make way for someone else who care. Patients who require care and their loved ones have a hard enough time, they do not to be led further into the abyss of ill-health with mis-diagnosis and potentially addictive medications. read more

I agree with one of the reviews, if I had a choice of no stars, that's what i would have chosen. I went to him because I work for a doctor's office and we refer patients to him and his partner. Unfortunately, his partner was not available so we got him. He is so rude, arrogant, and has no compassion at all. He's always available and will see you the same day, which means he sees patient in 5 minutes. He doesn't even come close to you. He looks at you from across the room. If you can get any of his other partners, they are far more better than him. These kind of doctors needs to take classes on professionalism. He should just retire if he doesn't feel like being a doctor. He has a "I don't want to be here look". I really hope he reads this so he can change his high and mighty attitude. This doctor is the most arrogant, rude, and incompetent doctor (I use the term doctor loosely) He did surgery on a family member, and totally screwed up, and now another surgery by another doctor has to be performed. Dr. Lorman became my orthopedic doctor when I was misdiagnosed for a hyperextended tendon next to the Achilles which left my leg flopping and my not being able to walk w/o crutches. It had been wrapped incorrectly by a sports medicine hospital that attended to our professional athletes and, next, by a highly regarded orthopedic clinic. After over 6 weeks of the problem, I was referred to Dr. Lorman by someone who had a great experience with him. He had saved her the use of her wrist. I was pre-warned that he did not have a good "bedside" manner, so I was prepared for his seeming abruptness. However, his genuine concern over the lack of proper treatment for my injury showed that under all of the facade he was very empathetic. He gave me a med to reduce inflammation after properly diagnosing with a test that he did in the office. He strongly cautioned against using the med beyond the inflammation, wrapped it according to the diagnosis and within two weeks, I could not remember which calf had been non-functioning. My PCP (until that day), told me I had arthritis in my right knee after showing me his x-ray and prescribed pain meds. and hinted at a possible surgery. I don't do well with medications and so, went to Dr. Lorman to check it out. He took his own x-ray and there was not even a hint of arthritis. He showed me some exercises to improve the muscles around the knee. Complete relief in less than a month. Had s few other sports injuries and each time Dr. Lorman took less invasive measures to keep me from unnecessary surgery. With the Affordable Health Care Act, many things have changed for doctors in being able to provide the services they used to be able to provide. Depending on where you are on this spectrum, you are either getting better service or less than adequate and the less than adequate care is often costing double of what it was prior to this measure. I know of several 20 somethings who have lost their health care benefits because they make $40K+ a year and the companies they worked for could no longer provide a plan. So, they pay between $500-1800 a month for health care with copays of $20+. Doctors have all been placed in tough places. However, being diagnosed with a ganglion cyst when I had an inflammation of the tendon in my left hand is not an AHCA problem. The problem being, many a new doctor, who is good at taking tests, passed the tests for their profession, however, have little to no knowledge of what they've allegedly been trained to do. With insurance companies being "for profit", there is not much that the government or doctors can do. No easy answers to anything. However, It does seem that MRI's are not as often ordered unless you're at or near death's doorstep. My favorite doctor left the group she was with and my new doctor, who had tried to work independent of groups, was forced to open his practice under a corporation due to ever increasing medical costs over the past 2 years which his caused his practice to work in the red. Gone are the days when doctors could work without constraints to do the best job possible. Grateful that Dr. Lorman has been so helpful for me over the many years. He has saved me from many a surgery and provided me with healing help where others have failed grievously. read more

I went to see Dr. Lorman for ongoing pain that seemed to radiate from the left side of my neck, around my shoulder balde, down to my hand. I had lived with the pain for months since it seemed to come and go. After examination and xray, Dr. Lorman determined that the cause of the pain was in my shoulder, not my neck. He injected my shoulder and the pain resolved itself within one week. What I appreciate most about Dr. Lorman is his "no-nonsense" approach where he will not waste my time "trying to figure it out", he is to the point, and offers options and when I ask for his suggestions relative to those options, he offers his opinion. I couldn't ask for more from a treating physician. I have referred many friends and collegues to Dr. Lorman and all have been very pleased iwth his services. read more

Dr. Lorman is to the point when it comes to solving my problems and figuring out exactly what would benefit me the most.. I went to Dr.Lorman as he is one of the default orthopedists within my healthcare plan and group. After getting me an MRI and then giving me the results that I had an ACL tear, he did not clearly explain to me that surgery was inevitable. He actually tried to impress upon me that i should just give it some time and see if it improved, which as anyone who has torn an ACL or the internet will tell you, is silly. Yes, it was my mistake that i did not realize when he first gave me this approach that I would need to be the one to TELL him that i wanted the surgery, but somehow being an active 27 year old male should have been an obvious sign that i was not an over-the-hill-non-athlete that would like to live a limited lifestyle due to a lack of major knee ligament. I don't mean to sound harsh in describing it this way, but when i finally asked Dr.Lorman what the reason was for delaying the inevitable surgery that was needed, his only response was that i would need to see one of the other doctors in his office who could do the surgery (Dr.Striplin). Maybe this is doctor tactic for getting me to continually come back for "checkups" and pad their insurance payments, but when i finally got to see Dr.Striplin i was treated entirely differently, the way i should have been by Dr.Lorman. read more

My 5 year old son was referred to Dr. Lorman by his pediatrician for a broken arm (twice!). My son is not the easiest kid to sit in a doctor's office to say the least...he's the "bouncing off the walls" type. And he asks a million questions and likes to interrupt. So I went to Dr. Lorman's with apprehension, wondering if this more established older doctor would would have patience with a 5 year old or just turn and run. Well, not only was he very patient with him, but he was very kind and funny. He explained things to him, and joked with him, and gave me much relief with his uber-patience! He was obviously not only a wonderfully competent and professional doctor (my son recovered wonderfully well and quickly from his broken arm) but a kind one. He really knows how to deal well with kids (and anxious mothers). My son wasn't the least bit afraid when he put the cast on and then when he took the cast off....even though that machine that cuts the cast looks like a saw that can cut your arm in two. I thought my son would freak but he didn't. The second time my son broke his arm, Dr. Lorman was on vacation and we had to see another doctor in his office and I was devastated. I would have waited for Dr. Lorman if it hadn't been an emergency! read more
