From the very first phone call they were kind, patient and attentive to every detail. Losing mom was incredibly difficult but their support made a hard time just a little bit easier to bear. They guided me through every step with care and clarity never making me feel rushed even though I called pretty much daily and asked a lot of questions. The service was beautiful and exactly what mom would have wanted :(. The funeral home is warm, clean and very open. Also the fact we had the entire space to ourselves was very meaningful. The pre-planning process was easy; unfortunately, decisions made during that process weren't communicated clearly between Michaels' staff members when the arrangements were finalized. When Michael was present, he was professional and respectful. Not having the funeral director immediately available throughout the visitation was unexpected. Though there were a couple negatives, our overall experience was good. Their prices are very competitive and they don't apply pressure to make more expensive choices during a challenging time. Most importantly, they made my mom look better than she had in years, after an extended illness. We are grateful for the gift of seeing a very beautiful mom/grandma/aunt/friend for the last time.

In addition we ordered blown glasses orbs that contain some of her ashes as part of the glass, no two are the same. We are waiting on the glass artist to complete them. We were told it takes a little time because of the uniqueness. Wonderful family owned business (multi generations) and support staff. Focused on making our loss as painless as humanly possible. First they were very professional and answered all of our questions, including showing us options for Cremation caskets, discussing how they handle Covid19 social distancing, and how the funeral experience would be. We included the option of streaming the Visitation and prayer due to the Covid19 regulations, which were posted on their site with a link we could share on Facebook. This allowed many who could not attend in person to say goodbye remotely. They include music that was in accordance of our religion and ensured that the ceremony was given the time to say goodbye. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Before his passing, we had an initial visit with Michael regarding plot selection and he was helpful with helping us pick the location that best met our needs. No pressure, just a friendly visit and discussion. After he passed, we then worked with Sherry and Arlene to purchase the plot, casket, vault, shroud, death certificates, etc. The cost was substantial, but I imagine it is likely in line with other Jewish cemeteries in the area. Included in the cost is perpetual care of the grounds so there are no additional fees down the road. The chapel for his service was very nice and all of the people working there that day were super friendly. They live streamed his service which many in my family used. They also provided the ability to download the service which I decided to do. Shalom Memorial received the death certificates a few days afterwards from the village and we picked them right away so we could begin sending them to those who needed them. I really can't think of anything that I didn't like or was disappointed in.

The family is currently on the West Coast and the memorial would be in the Chicago suburbs. Melissa Nelson was patient and compassionate as I called for information regarding a death half way across the country. She provided details on what Meadows could provide and also offered alternative solutions for us which wouldn't even result in revenue for her. To me, this is a sign of a true professional looking out for the best interests of the client. She also made any expenses that might be incurred very clear as she understands that many times families aren't prepared for the expense. Ultimately, due to size constraints, we were unable to use Meadows, but I absolutely recommend Meadows Funeral Home and Melissa.
