One of our favorite breakfast spots in town! The new owners really revamped the menu. The crunchy French toast and eggs florentine bennie are my two favorite items to order. The indoor seating is narrow so it's not ideal for parties bigger than about 4 but there are bigger tables outside that are lovely in nice weather. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this place, but I ended up liking it! First off, the exterior is very cute and old school - I absolutely loved the look of it. We visited on a Saturday (late) morning, and they were able to seat our party of 8 right away. We had to split up into two tables, but they were close enough to each other that we were all still able to talk. The interior was exactly what you would expect from a diner - no frills, plenty of regular patrons. But the pricing here is what really delighted me - $4.99 for Bloody Marys and Screwdrivers. Were they good? Not really, the Bloody Marys were literally made with V8. But were they strong? VERY much so. For food, I ordered the Chicken Tenders on Fire and one French Toast to split with my friend. All the food was honestly good - not amazing, but solid. My friends all enjoyed their food as well, including the Sausage Gravy & Biscuits, Turkey Club, Hungry Traveler, Hash & Eggs, and Reuben. Me and wifey were trying to find a bagel joint in this town but the address we couldn't find. What we did find was this beautiful shiny stainless steal club car looking diner. It's the perfect scenario in this cute little town and the quintessential New England diner. The staff was extremely friendly and greeted you with a big smile. From the interior furnishings to the old school big coffee mugs, this place was the ultimate find for us. The food was delicious and plentiful. My wife had an egg sandwich and I had the eggs over easy with carb beef hash which I totally enjoyed. We will definitely go back because the Peterborough Diner is a must try location (but not when I'm hankering for a traditional hardy breakfast). read more

Nice little find on a drive out to the area. From what I saw this isn't a pla e for groups over four, unless you're willing to split up. There's six in our family, and our oldest two had to sit at the counter. But I think they found that exhilarating more than disappointing. The wait staff was super nice and accommodating due to our group size. We went on a Sunday, I believe, and it was very busy. I was taken aback when I heard that they were closing at 2pm. As we had gotten there sometime close to 1pm, and were just barely seated before I heard people having to order take out. At least the staff were willing to help these late-comers. So, if you plan to try it out, plan accordingly. The food was typical diner fare, nothing over the top. But it was all good. Zero complaints from anyone, which can be hard to do given our size; someone always has some sort of issue. So, kudos to this diner for making our first visit a pleasant one. We were traveling up in New Hampshire this week and found a great diner in Peterborough, NH. The Peterborough Diner was an old fashion diner with stools by the food counter and booths by the windows. We picked the booth by the window and ordered our drinks. They had soda, tea, lemonade and beer. We had sodas: Coke and Diet Cokes. The menu had American food: hamburgers, pizzas and pastas. We had the Peter Burgers, which were two paddies on a bun with French fries or Cole slaw. You could get a choice of cheeses: Swiss, American or Cheddar. My burger just had onions and tomato and was cooked to perfection: Medium well. My son-in-law had the Peter burger with Swiss cheese and we all loved the burgers. We didn't have dessert because we were full. I'm hoping to go back to the diner to try their homemade pies. The blueberry and apple pies looked delicious. We were on our way to Keene and found this gem in Peterborough! We all loved the diner, our waitress was super, the food was excellent and diner was spotlessly clean. If you're in southern NH in the Peterborough and/or the Keene area make the Peterborough Diner a place to eat. Great food, great service and a great diner! Enjoy! Stay safe and keep healthy. Ok, not a bad place at all. The omelets are very good, the lunch sandwiches are quite yummy, the breakfast ham delicious, and the staff are so nice, but... well the place could be a bit cleaner. While I won't blame them for the couple of flies that sneaked in with the patrons, the floors and bathroom are in pretty rough shape. It's one thing in the middle of the winter or 'mud season' to see some grime, but there really is too much there for post summer. Happy to keep giving it a try - it's just that there are a number of other choices in town that have just as good or better food. read more

This is a cute little diner found in the center of an old historic downtown. We found ourselves in this cute little town after camping in a town nearby. Seating is available outside or inside. We only had to wait about 5 minutes on a Sunday morning for a booth for 4 people. Our waitress was nice, typical diner hospitality (not going above and beyond to fill refills, etc. But nice enough). I ordered two poached eggs with toast, home fries. My parents ordered two eggs with roast & home fries. Husband ordered 3 eggs, hash browns and bacon. We had a water, two coffees and a coke and breakfast came out to $27 and change before tip. Food was greasy and salty as one would expect coming to a diner. The special of the day was scallop roll. Not only were the scallops deep fried like nuggets but also they came in this mouldy roll. (see photo) I showed the waitress saying I was "disappointed". She snatched up the plate and took it to the kitchen without a word and then went on with other things. I called her and said I did not want that dish again. She said I was not getting it. But I was not being charged for it, either. No apology. No offer of any alternative food. I left the diner hungry and insulted. I really don't know what was worse, the food or the service. Used to come regularly to this diner when we lived in NH - a ritual visit accompanied by shopping at the Toadstool Bookshop. It was supposed to be a lovely, sentimental return. Walking up to this place, I did a double-take. It looks like someone hoisted an old-fashioned train car off its rails, repainted it, plopped it down in the middle of Depot Square, and set up shop inside. Very neat. There's a nice setup outside in front with tables, and it's probably a pretty lunch spot in warmer weather (I was there midwinter, so I haven't experienced it myself). Inside, the decor is...nostalgic, I guess. They've got a neat "Peterboro Diner" clock above the cash register (as well as other self-promoting memorabilia floating around), and the whole place has a nice old-fashioned diner feel to it. (Though you might be wondering - no, it doesn't really feel like a train car inside - it's a bit too wide for one, with the kitchen added in back). The waitresses were very kind and moderately quick at getting our food out, though I guess during lunchtime it's bound to slow up a little bit. The food itself was pretty good, and nicely portioned. Their pickles were pretty awul though (brine and pee anyone?), but I've noticed it's difficult for most diners on the East Coast to get something straight-from-a-jar to taste right. Overall? If you're in the area, drop on by. It's a nice, local taste of Peterborough, and afterwards you can walk around town and check out the neat shops nearby. read more

We had to make a trip up north and decided to stay off the blazing hot highway and take a shadier, cooler and slower route. This route sent us straight through the center of picturesque Peterborough. A nice town and good area, I hit up Yelp for suggestion. We needed quick eats but still wanted to sit down in the AC for a bit before heading back on the road. It was a little challenging to find the diner as the GPS basically exploded when it realized it was behind a set of buildings and businesses and sorta in the middle of a lot. Hard to explain haha. We still found it and parking easy enough and headed on in. We were kind of suprised and upset to find that although the AC was on inside, it was still brutally hot,... yuck. Fortunately they did have outdoor seating with picnic tables. The tables out there were a mismatch of campground wooden (uncomfortable) tables and newer, plastic /pvc composite ones with umbrella built in and all. They were kinda weird but it was actually much nicer outside in the shade. They had a special going on for $1 bottles of select beers - Not crappy ones either... Sam Adams, Newcastle, Guinness and the like.. When we asked the waitress she said that they bought just way way too much beer. Excellent. He had a traditional breakfast lineup with western omelette, hash, home fries, cheese, toast and even a pancake. I had a craving for turkey so I tried their turkey club, as they have in house roasted turkey. He liked his food, it looked like a good portion, not huge but filling nonetheless. My Turkey club was great, I had asked for it toasted, and the bread came out nearly burnt. if we weren't in a sort of rush I probably would have sent it back, but the TURKEY OMG WOW. SO good def a homemade taste. The sandwich was also soooo big we could have easily shared it and been more than satisfied. Prices here about match the portions. I usually ask for bacon to be on the crispier side, but this time I forgot to ask and the bacon was a tad gummy... yuck. Also our beers came out after our food and to my dismay it tasted sorta skunky. Also sorta explains why they were so cheap.. they must have been old from last fall. Not a huge deal it was only a dollar, but skunked up beer makes for a funked up meal. Overall the food is great and the service is too, everyone was very friendly and attentive - super fast with coffee refills and ultra friendly with kids. I wont rush back to dine in here, but I could go for another one of those turkey clubs - RIGHT NOW (see pics)! read more

My wife and I were really disappointed today, breakfast was excellant but the experience was not. For the first time since covid hit we ate inside, we waited until the morning rush was done and entered. Staff and clients were all wearing masks until a group of twenty somethings walked in passing through without wearing a mask but managing to bring in Dunkin Donut's coffee. We pointed it out to the waitress and she informed us that the owner said to allow it. We informed her we will only return when we eat outside.... A sad day for this connoisseur of the classic new England diners. This was not my first visit to the diner , but is more than likely my last. Upon arrival the Peterborough diner is a beauty and the interior is equally impressive( check out the stools and the original wood cabinets) , but ultimitely it is about the food. The first visit was lunch and honestly I don't remember it being bad...certainly not great ,but not bad..my wife and mother in law were not happy with their selections.. Salads with grilled chicken. personally salads are not on my mind when eating at a diner . This visit was for breakfast and in my opinion what diners are expected to do better than any thing else they serve. It really was bad....greasy ...old...steamed?? The eggs were the best thing on the plate and they were greasy...the homefries were old and reheated all morning apparently. yuck..the bacon I asked for crispy and it was rubbery ...like the homefries, I suspect reheated all day...and it tasted like it been steamed and then grilled...nasty! Breakfast at a diner is a given , but sadly not at the Peterborough diner...do yourself a favor and go around the corner to Nonie's. read more

Okay...as a transplant to New England, I like old fashioned diners. For the look, the Peterborough Diner fits the bill. Nice mix of original stainless steel panels, wood, and Formica. The crowd is a mix of locals and folks driving through. On this visit, a number of folks on 'leaf peeper' tous were also in the diner. The food is hit and miss. Decent coffee but first cup had a burned taste. Mediocre sandwiches. A tuna melt with toasted bread but cols tuna fish (bland, too) and un melted cheese. The Monte Cristo was decent, but not very 'eggy.' The fries were fab. Their serve was frenetic and not particularly well coordinated. Glad we stopped, but our next stop in town we will eat somewhere else. read more

I politely asked, then gently pleaded with the waitress in charge to seat the second half of our full party (family visiting from out of state) in one of the vacant booths directly across from us in the dreary uninspired back room she had escorted us to. She brusquely refused saying the booth was for a larger party who would be coming. That seemed odd because we had been told they don't take reservations. We had already spoken to this waitress/manager when we stopped in 30 min earlier, telling them the size of our party and then waiting until they had room - which they now did. Yet even though they told us there was seating now and there it was, she refused to let us sit across from one another and instead left the booth across from us vacant. Then seated the rest of my family in a booth on the other side of a high opaque plastic divider so we couldn't even turn our heads to share each other's company for the entire meal. She then seats a family with the same exact number of people as the rest of our now separated party in the booth across from us and we ate our entire breakfast staring at these strangers (since the booths face each other). Between this treatment and all the fees boldly announced on the menu for things like "plate sharing" I ended up really unimpressed. And embarrassed having touted it so much to our visiting family. Nevertheless the blueberry pancakes were delicious. I will give them that. And our serving waitress (not the managing one) was nice. This diner survives because it looks so cute on the outside and is one of Peterborough's landmarks. But they need to realize this kind of abrupt and dismissive managing staff leaves a bad impression. read more

Word of caution. I came in ordered mons sticks for an app and a meat lasagna for dinner. I was sitting at the bar and witnessed all the cooking. I got my app and the cheese was still hard told the waitress and she stood there looking at me like a deer in headlights...I said I didn't want them I ordered the baked stuffed mushrooms. Then I see the guy caughing in his hand and then grabing some bread he put aside. He took the lasagna put in the microwave and then when it was done he took the bread and put it with my dinner...I told the waitress I didn't want the bread and why....she laughed. Then I see the guy take the so called baked stuffed mushrooms and put those in the microwave. What better to do on a snowy day in New Hampshire than get out of the house and find a nice place for lunch ? My dear wife and I were out enjoying the scenery and we found ourselves in Peterborough. We drove past the diner and found it was open despite the weather so we parked the truck and went inside for lunch. The interior is the quintessential New England diner. The counter runs pretty much the length of the diner and the booths are cozy (read - small) with hooks for your jackets which is a nice touch. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. She brought us a couple of menus as soon as we sat down and settled in. There was quite a bit of variety to choose from. I ordered a Ruben with coleslaw and my wife ordered a Chicken Parm grinder & fries. It didn't take long for our food to arrive and both dishes were piping hot. My Ruben was piled high with flavorful juicy meat, cheese & sauerkraut. The rye bread was thick and toasted perfectly which gave my sandwich a pleasant crunch. My coleslaw was served in a small cup on the side and was coarsely chopped giving it a nice texture. If there's one thing I don't like it's the "almost pureed" coleslaw some other places serve. My coleslaw was fresh & flavorful which I enjoyed very much ! The chicken parm grinder was too big for my wife to finish, so I stole a bite and found it very good ! Nicely breaded chicken, moist & tasty with just enough of a nice tomato sauce without making the roll soggy. The French fries were crisp and tasty too, I know because I snitched a few ! Our waitress brought a box for my wife to bring her leftovers home. Our waitress did stop by to ensure we were happy and managed to drop off the check and take payment quickly which is something I really appreciated. In closing I'd say we were both very pleased with both our meals and service and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. The only reason I gave four stars and not five is due to the small size of the booths. I'll still be back for more though ! read more
