The food was fine, the service was very slow. It took a long time to get the servers attention away from the person she was chitchatting with to get a 2nd cup of coffee. Additionally, while I was there a server dropped a box of creamers on the floor. Put the box on the floor, scooped up all the creamers, and put them back in the box. Then proceeded to go around the room, placing the box on the lunch counter, and every table while she used the creamers to fill the bowls on the table. This included the creamers that were on the floor and the creamers that remained in the box, but were contaminated by the creamers that were on the floor. Stopped here on the way home from the Green River Festival. It was about 10 pm, and most of the other customers were also festival-goers. Great vibe, especially with the jukebox music. They were a little understaffed for the crowd but our waitress was very courteous and accomodating. Was not very impressed. Went with a friend of mine who has never been there the whole time he has lived here. We went for breakfast and our waitress got our order wrong. Hey, it does happen. But the food was all cold. I asked for my English muffin to be toasted it came back to me raw with a glob of butter on it. I asked for a replacement the next one came just a little more toasted with yet another glob of partially melted butter kind of gross looking. I asked for my pancakes at the end of the meal and they were cold I asked for butter and it would not even melt I had cold maple syrup I paid extra for the real stuff and I didn't even finish them because they were just cold and chewy. My corned beef hash I asked to be on the crispy side it was crispy on the outside and cold on the inside. I had to keep asking for my coffee to be filled which I shouldn't have to do. I hate to say this but overall it was a terrible breakfast probably one of the worst I've ever had and the service was not very good at all. Definitely will not be back unfortunately. read more

Finally got back here after a ski trip. Tried to come the week before but closed to not having power from the blizzard. Needless to say I had a very filling breakfast for dinner. Three eggs, six meats (three of each) and two pancakes. Sausage was my favorite food on the plate. Bacon was not crispy like I had asked, eggs had little to no cheese and pancakes I felt were just slightly overcooked. Ordered a milkshake but they were out of ice cream from a busy night before. Probably for the best as I did not need one. Ruby did a great job behind the counter. Noticed the lack of cheese on my eggs and asked if she could get me more. Being that it's already a huge breakfast I declined and thanked her. But was very friendly and we talked about the busy day she had yesterday. With Fifty's Dinner not being open 24/7 anymore this is the spot to come for your late night hunger cravings. read more

Stopped in on a beautiful, top-down day enroute to Vermont for leaf peeping. Iconic looking on the outside, open 24 hours (always a plus), right off I-91, and used by a lot of truckers. Sign on the door mentions the staffing shortage and the resultant longer wait times. Sat on a stool at the counter and was waited on by Emily. First and foremost, she is an absolute gem. Like an octopus. No wasted motion. Constantly doing everything. With a smile. From there, it was all downhill. Ordered the House Special omelet. Comes with homemade corned beef hash, home fries, and toast. The omelet itself was "unusual " in that I have never had or seen an omelet that had a runny yolk when you cut into it. It appeared as a normal omelet on the outside, but the inside egg part was almost as if they layered a sunnyside up egg inside before the CBH. The person next to me experienced the same thing, as did someone further down. The CBH was full of fat, and was over spiced. Besides being salty, there was another spice that was almost overbearing. Couldn't place it. And the HFs? They were deep fried tater tots. Coffee was good, and Emily constantly kept my cup filled. The dinner menu includes numerous classics like meatloaf, liver w onions, hamburger steak, etc. I will never try them because I will never patronize this diner again. This place is a great standby for whenever we want a good hot local meal with quick, friendly service and prices that are still affordable in this economy, especially since it is open later than other places around. It's a truck stop diner with all of its original charm, and I see lots of local people and families here often in addition to those on the road. The service is authentic too - warm and friendly. When I go, T (waitress extraordinaire) always seems to be there, working hard to keep everyone happy. She's a gem. My only complaint is that it used to be open 24/7 and now it's not. It was really the only place in town that serviced that need and it used to be great to roll in at midnight and still be able to get a yummy omelet or burger. I wanted a milkshake and I got chocolate milk, the server said she didn't know how to make milkshake's when it's on the menu and I ended up with a bland chocolate milk. the audacity of this server was wild to serve me a plain bland milk instead of the chocolate milk I asked for. The best thing about this place is the look--a classic diner. The food is mediocre at best and the service was non-existent, except for the gentleman bringing the coffee - he was great. Our "server" was rude, barely spoke and never checked in to see if we needed anything else. She was too busy chatting up the regulars. Of course, she dropped off the check quickly. The coffee was plentiful, but weak and watery, which is odd for a truck stop. We both got ham and cheese omeletes, which were cheesy and flavorful, but seemed to be salted above and beyond the ham and cheese saltiness. The home fries were from frozen (see picture attached) and had zero flavor, no added onions or peppers and were cold to boot. Not memorable at all. read more

I have been in a lot of restaurants but this one I kind of felt like I do not belong there No hello, good morning we will be a there in a moment. The plate was very hot food was cold . I'm sitting on the counter with no coffee so the waitress go to a table with a cup of water and coffee pot comes back and gave me what's left over from the coffee pot. There was an employee child about 8/10 years old sitting two bar stool from me and the next thing I know she was moved on the other half side of the counter.The cook I guess was with the waitress when she asked me right after she gave me the menu what would I like to order. I felt like the cook told her to take my order. My comment was I have to look at the menu.The plate was hot my food cold so don't give me any lips. My friend and I were in the process of making our way up to New Hampshire. We already had some car troubles and logged a lot of hours on the road. We stopped for gas and saw the Whately Diner in sight and both thought wow that looks like a classic diner with good food. We were already behind schedule so figured sitting down for a meal wouldn't be a big deal. The diner blew us away. It had that perfect mix of old school and memorabilia from the golden age of diners (what a great time that must have been) The service was good and they treated you like family. The menu was extensive and had a wide variety of options. My friend got the heavy hauler and I got the philly steak omelette. Being in the middle of Massachusetts this was great - dare I say even better that some places in Philly. Perfect blend of steak, onions, peppers and cheese. Both of us didn't leave one crumb on our plates. Very cool place and if I'm ever back again I'll definitely by. Cheers! read more

I ate there in the 1980s because I was staying in Deerfield. It looked tempting. I walked out thinking it was the worst breakfast food I'd ever had. Fast forward 40 years. I figured it was time for a re-visit. So, on the way to Northampton we stopped for breakfast. I asked for eggs benedict and it took a week to get the weird taste out of my mouth. Sharon's home fries were much better than mine, but she didn't like the place either. That said, I like trucks, and if I were a driver I'd welcome their enormous parking lot for its accessibility. read more

We had dinner here late night because it was the only place open - despite being very understaffed the team there was doing their damndest to get food out and make sure everyone was taken care of for the huge Saturday late night crowd that was there. Not sure of her name, but I think I heard another patron call her Dolores - she was doing everything, taking orders, bussing, cooking!!! And the food was really good considering, we got eggs over easy and pancakes which were both perfect, all the fried food like the bacon and potatoes were perfect as well. Overall very clean in the restaurant consider basically Dolores was basically running the whole show. Overall she was amazing and I hope they get more staff so they can continue doing business! You will have to have patience while you're there again due to the lack of staff but overall great place for late night read more

If looks were all that mattered, this would be a 5-star diner. When you first see it from the road, you can't wait to eat inside. It's on the greasy spoon side of things, with everything a little rough around the edges. That doesn't give you high hopes for the food, but it is made fresh, which is a delight. The corned beef hash doesn't come out of a can. It's actually chopped up corned beef. The biscuits and gravy has chunks of real, flavorful sausage in it. The pancakes are fluffy and huge. The menu is small, at least in the wee hours when we went. The service is prompt. In the area, there aren't a lot of 24-hour diners. It absolutely delivers what you want from a diner in the middle of the night. read more

I don't think I've ever had a more rude server in my life. The dirty blonde lady with big earrings on Monday 1/29/24 at around 2pm. She didn't even greet us and just asked "if we were ready to order" and threw the straws down and kept aggressively tossing napkins and other items on our table as if we were the biggest inconvenience to her. When she left the check she didn't even say a word. You expect tip with that customer service? Absolutely not. Not sure what problem she had but we certainly won't be coming here again. The food is decent, however, it needs seasoning. The glasses of sweet tea that I had tasted stale, it would be good to change that out more often and keep it fresh. I had the Fish and Chips with a side of macaroni and cheese and cottage cheese. The macaroni and cheese was good, clearly a home style, baked variety, but it lacked pep and spice. The fish was cooked well, tasted fresh, and was moist. I also had a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie, absolutely awesome. Our service was good, the outside of the diner is unique, and the jukeboxes at every table again a unique kitschy touch. The food was palatable but not noteworthy. The grime was discernible everywhere you looked, under the table, on the jukeboxes, crumbs, grease, a pail of dirty mop water near the bathrooms, quite the collection of flies diving for your food, and bathrooms that were in desperate need of bleach. The burger was overdone. It happens a lot everywhere. The fried egg on the burger was over easy as ordered. Service was prompt and friendly. Battered fries were good. Hard to screw them up. Eggs, milk, other ingredients are advertised farm fresh/local. Artisan quality pickle. Funky music. Might have been jukebox selections. Pretty busy for 1 am in the middle of nowhere. Will be back. Came back next day for brunch. Got the monster omelet. (meat lovers with onions peppers and mushrooms. A Denver meets meat lovers type of situation.) Awesome. Couldn't tell you how the food was. Arrived at 9:52pm. The waitress had a couple people in there but not a full house yet. She cleaned our booth and seated us. It took her a few mins to bring the menus over and take our drink orders. I got my cranberry juice 20 mins later and my partner never got his water. We left finally at 10:30 after never even being able to put a food order in and she took a whole different groups order in as soon as they walked in and sat them at the bar and never took our order or the girls behind us' orders that were there for the same amount of time as us. We left $5 for the cranberry juice and left. 40 mins and missing a water we ordered and you took 6 other peoples orders that walked in after us. We were very patient but that is crazy. read more

A Diamond in the rough. This kind of diner is what the world needs right now. Good food. Good service. Clean bathrooms. Clean tables. Jovial guy who fixes the jukebox after it eats your quarters. We stopped in here after scouring the internet for food at 4pm on a Monday. The options are limited and we always love a good diner so we popped in for some grub. The corn beef hash was crispy and delicious. The onion rings are the perfect onion ring and even their hash browns were crispy and not just plate filler. We had two waitresses and both were personable, professional and speedy, even though there were only two of them. Great song selection, great customers, great all around.
