They ONLY take reservations by email (no phone) but rest assured they will get back to you. Service is elite. There's like 12 total tables in this place and a bar top. Low ceiling. Parked down the block from Peter's Inn and was greeted by a rat on the sidewalk. When we walked in they did not honor our reservation for a table for 4 and wanted us to sit either outside or at the bar. We opted for the bar. The restaurant was extremely noisy with the crowd and music was blaring behind my head which the bartender did turn down on request. Drinks were decent. The smoked trout pate appetizer was mostly just cream cheese. The calamari app lacked flavor. Both the duck (overcooked) and short rib mains were just mediocre in flavor with no effort put into the presentation. One of the saving graces was that service was very friendly, but I find all the hype about Peter's to be much ado about nothing and I've got no reason to go back there. read more

I absolutely loved my experience here. The restaurant is only open Thursday-Sunday and I would definitely recommend making a reservation (via email on their website) or you will be waiting for a while because it's a small place. The menu changes every week except for a few specials, you can check online before going. We had the smoked trout pate, the garlic bread and the halibut with ravioli and we really enjoyed everything we ate. I love that the menu changes every week to get a new experience. The restaurant is pretty tight, so I recommend eating outside if you want more space. Definitely recommend for a special meal! read more

I am struggling here. I came in on a Thursday and snagged a seat at the bar. I received initial "what do you want drinks" , but then it was a struggle to get service . They were 1/2 empty. It's nestled into the corner of Eastern and S Ann and is the perfect spot for an intimate dinner with friends/family/date night. The first thing you'll notice reading reviews is their famous garlic bread, and it did not disappoint!! We also ordered the burrata salad, diver's scallop, and short ribs. Overall the flavors were OUTSTANDING--people's choice award goes to the scallop which sat on a bed of the most mouthwatering mashed sweet potatoes cooked with leeks and bacon. For their prices, we thought the portions were a little petite. But ordering 3-4 plates for 2 people left us pretty satisfied. read more

Drink menu provided some great choices of craft cocktails. I ordered a cucumber mojito and friend a grapefruit Campari spritzer. Very refreshing. Food menu offered a wide selection of appetizers, salads, and entries. We started out with oysters in half shell which were very fresh and delicious. House salad was simple but the house dressing was amazing paired with their garlic bread. Our entrees included halibut and little neck clams. Both dishes were very good. Ingredients tasted so fresh. A recommendation from a local, I headed to Peter's Inn. It looks just like a house that's been converted to a restaurant and so I had a table in the back room. On a quiet weeknight, my friend and I had this small room to ourselves, which was very nice. I had a simple salad to start with, which arrived with a massive slab of garlic bread. Tasty stuff. With it, a local Heavy Seas beer. I always like having a local beer when I can, so that's a bonus point for them. The menu appears to constantly change - they photocopy it weekly and I overheard them mention to another customer that they were out of one item. So it's all fresh and that's a good thing. For main course, I opted for the tagliatelle. Thick and rich tomato sauce, loaded with fresh oregano and basil, plus pistachios. Very, very, very good. Not a huge portion, which was nice. As for dessert, there was a nice list of things and something with blueberries caught my eye. As opposed to the dinner, this was a big portion of something sort of souffle-like topped with real whipped cream. Not that canned crap. This was actual whipped cream. And real, live blueberries. Not fake compote stuff. It was uh-may-zing! Terrific service from at least three different servers. Really good experience here. A great date-night experience if that's what you might be looking for. read more

Found this place through my IG algorithm searches and I was really looking forward to a delicious dinner based on a very unique menu and excellent reviews. I made a reservation and was promptly contacted via email with the perfect time. The day came and I showed with my husband to find an extremely loud, poorly located, cramped reserved table and honestly overrated environment. Food was also disappointing and overpriced unfortunately. We ordered their famous garlic bread, white cheddar grits, short rib on a deconstructed French onion soup and the lobster pot pie with a sauce that was too rich, over empowering with hardly any veggies and a random lobster tail... got a coffee press served with old rancid ground coffee beans, barely got any iced water refills and my waiter appeared to be more amused serving the table right next to us with a birthday sugar baby/sugar daddy situation than making sure we were ok and that food came out on time and to the restaurant reputation standards. After more than 75 dollars later I was left with a very bad taste in my mouth and with no desire to come back or recommend this place to anyone. read more

So many people love this place that I almost feel bad writing this. But...took my 22 year old son here for his birthday and it was a disappointment. They sat 3 of us at a very small table for 2, and thought I appreciate that they accommodated us, they probably should have turned down the reservation, which is only available by email (weird and slow). My filet mignon was pricey but dry, and the espresso martini was lackluster. Too much coffee not enough flavor. The charcuterie board we got for an appetizer had so many things that were pretty to see but not great to eat. I am on a seriously great streak of good luck with the new restaurants that I have been to lately. Peter's Inn has been on my radar for years (seriously, YEARS) but I just hadn't gotten around to going there. Our team at the office decided to get together for dinner last night, and on a whim I suggested this place. Everyone thought it was a great idea, so off we went! Peter's opens their doors for cocktails at 5 but doesn't start serving for dinner until 6. No problem, this gives you plenty of time to get in and get settled, grab a seat at the bar and enjoy one of their libations and peruse the menu, all while putting your name on the list for dinner seating. Peter's is first come first serve, no reservations, so if you don't want to wait while the place is packed with people, come early. Note also that they are only open W-Sat; check their website or better yet, sign up for their weekly emailed menu subscription and stay abreast of their schedule and current menu selections. Our group had some cocktails at the bar while we waited, and the bartender and our future server kept us talking and laughing. That friendly and informative service continued all the way through the meal. We received great recommendations on what to try and we could not have been happier with our selections. At our server's suggestion we started off with two orders of the garlic bread and salad to split between the five of us. This was more than enough to share and it was fantastic. The garlic topping was amazing, I think there was gorgonzola in it, and the salad was fresh and tart with a seasoned balsamic dressing. I'm still thinking about this salad! For our entrees, most ordered the lamb chop, while I ordered the petite filet and there was also an order of burrata. My filet was covered with melted Dutch blue cheese and cooked perfectly med-rare; it was so tender it practically melted in your mouth. We finished up with a selection of macarons (raspberry, lemon, pistachio, chocolate and vanilla), light and not too sweet, and their amazing pot de crème with chocolate hazelnut gelato. That pot de crème was like eating a slightly more solidified brownie batter, it was out of this world. It is also worth mentioning that the pace of the meal was perfect, we did not have long waiting periods nor were we rushed. Everyone agreed that this was a great experience. The service could not have been friendlier or more welcoming for us first-timers, and the food was outstanding. We will definitely be back! read more

I joined a group for dinner here with a reservation two weeks ago. Peter's Inn takes reservations via email only. I'd only been a couple of times before, and that was pre-pandemic. I only recalled having sat outside before. We arrived and were seated inside, at a table pretty much right by the front door. The inside of this place was stifling on a mid-August evening, even though it looked like their ductless air conditioning unit was on. The inside is lively (loud) and dimly lit. The bar looked like a good time, at the expense of the tables shoved up against the other side wall of the space. This ambiance should have been our first clue to cut our losses and take our chances for this birthday dinner elsewhere. Our server seemed quite pleasant at first and took our drink order promptly. The host made sure our water glasses remained full. But that's where what one would expect from a restaurant sequence of service came to a grinding halt. When we asked to order appetizers, we were curtly informed that we needed to order all of our dishes at once. When we said that, in that case, we would need more time, the server seemed annoyed. And indeed, we needed more time to interpret the handwritten menu. It was admittedly hard to read in the dim light, and easy to miss items that were written down in no particular order. For starters, we ordered oysters, garlic bread (each order is a single piece, so for our group of five that meant five orders of garlic bread at a few dollars a pop), and a peach and goat cheese crostini. Thankfully, they spaced out the apps and the entrees. The apps arrived, with the garlic bread and crostini being pretty average tasting. The oysters were presented on a platter that just looked very suspect - imagine if you scraped a bunch of stuff off of the floor of King Triton's bathroom. Just...a mess. Suffice to say, there was little enthusiasm at the table for that dish. For entrees, half ordered a pasta dish and the other half the short rib. Short rib - traditionally a hearty, satisfying dish - was served with a sliver of bread, with the bit of short rib portion shredded in the bottom of a bowl with onions and a large ramekin of jus. Look, I get that inflation is a thing, but if you can't afford to serve a decent portion for $28, serve something else. At the end of the service, we were presented with a handwritten check and (finally) asked by our server how everything was. I informed her the the meal was okay, but that we found some of the portion sizes to be very small for the price, in particular the short rib. Her response was to direct any complaints to the reservation email address. When I informed her that we were not complaining, only responding to her question about how everything was, she became curt and said she was sorry we had a bad time. Having waited tables for seven years not so long ago, I just never would have had the audacity to speak to any guest like that - much less a table that just dropped $300. With all the choices available for dining out, there is no reason to give Peter's Inn a shot, unless you are local to the neighborhood, alone or with a single companion, can dine outdoors, aren't hungry, and enjoy rude servers. read more

Finally had a chance to re-visit Peter's Inn on a rainy Friday night and it was as good as I remember! The place is always busy, but the friendly staff seem to strive to seat everyone who arrives if at all possible. We grabbed two seats at the bar and enjoyed our friendly bartenders, who also provided excellent food recommendations. We had a very unique dish called the smoked trout pate - oh my goodness it was amazing. Let me break it down for you, so I can be fair and objective across multiple dimensions. 1. Food = 0 stars I ordered three things on the menu and each more underwhelming than the other. The salad was just a plate of overdressed romaine lettuce. Nothing else. Something I would get free as a side at a takeout place. The rib soup was saltier than the Dead Sea but the flavor unfortunately struggle to stay afloat. Finally, the piès de résistance: the fillet mignon. Without exaggeration, it was the toughest and the blandest fillet I have ever had. It was so bad that I stopped eating after two bites. 2. Service = 0 stars You know those restaurants where the servers are inviting friends over and chatting with them right behind your table? You don't cause restaurant aren't suppose to do that. But not at Peter's Inn. Everyone service member has a friend and some of the friends even have friends. 3. Value = 0 stars (if I could, I would give it a negative value) I will let the prices speak for themselves. Lettuce = $8, Soup = $20 and Fillet = $34. If the food was edible, it would have been reasonable but for someone who had to get chipotle after spending $66, it wasn't great value. 4. Sanitary standards = 0 stars Let's just say, I am writing this review from my throne. 5. Professionalism = 0 stars See comments on service. Also, how many people does it take to turn on the heat? Apparently more than 3. Also, would you consider it good service if you asked for the heat to be turned on and then someone turns it off after it was turned on? I know heating units can be complicated but if you are running a restaurant, you should really figure it out. 6. Honesty = 0 stars The cocktail menu lists five or six cocktails and one price: $6.50. When I saw the bill list it as $12.50, I thought it was time for me to go to the eye doctor. When I called attention to the menu, I was told that the listed price applied to only to the first drink. So when I asked, short of being a mind reader, how could I have known about the apparently classic "price only applies to first drink" canon, I was told "you can always ask". After I protested, the manager was nice enough to take it off the bill. How about we replace the "price applies to first drink only" rule with "prices displayed next to the drinks" preferably typed and not handwritten in cursive (as was all of the menu) Overall, definitely memorable. read more

What an amazing hidden gem!! We were only passing through town and wanted to stop for a good dinner. After reading all the reviews on many places, we picked Peter's Inn because of the reviews on its steak. And it did not disappoint! But that was only the beginning!! The crab cake was absolutely the best! The trout pate was our family's favorite and my kids ordered the braised short ribs and they were mouth watering good!!!! This is an amazing place. The food is some of the best I've ever eaten. The steak was done to perfection. The beets were fascinating and tasty. Portions are just the right size with side dishes that ample for two. The service was outstanding. The menu changes weekly with farm to table options, which are delightful. *sigh* My husband and I doubled back here because the experience we had 3 years ago was great and we wanted to try it again. When we got there we were seated at the bar. I asked if we could sit at one of the many empty tables (it was our anniversary and we wanted a more intimate experience) mainly so that we could have space for the tomahawk steak we intended on ordering. They were reluctant to and after a few waters, they told us we could sit at a table. Well, at this point they made us feel bad for wanting a table (their eyes and sighs didn't lie) and after sitting I noticed that my glass of water had some sort of black gunk on it. I never asked for another one because they already made me feel like a bother. Just didn't drink it. We ordered a Tomahawk steak and they told us that we should order it medium rare. We don't eat our steaks that way for many personal reasons. They told us that if we wanted it medium well like we asked it would be a while because they don't cook them that way often. Gee, thanks. We also asked for a steak topper of melted cheese and onion that did not come out on the steak. We mentioned it to a passing by waiter because our waiter never came to our table for us to tell him. 10 min and a lukewarm half eaten steak later and it came out. We were surrounded by couples who were celebrating their anniversary and were getting complimentary glasses of champagne and desserts with candles. It was also our anniversary and my husband put that on our reservation but we were not afforded the same experience. It was an all around bad experience for it to be so cramped and expensive. Not even bitter but to be honest, the food isn't worth the price, the inconsistent service nor the extremely tight space in there. The couple next to us had a few to drink and the husband was able to tilt slightly and put his head on my shoulder. I didn't mind that part but just gives you an idea of how tight it is. Been coming to Peter's since long before the fire, but now I doubt that I'll be returning. We went for dinner a few nights ago and showed up at 6:15 knowing how busy it can get in their small space. We were given a 2 hour wait, which after only being open 15 minutes isn't awesome, and were informed they were now taking reservations, which had made things more complicated. The host told us he would text us when we were getting close. Frustrated, we went for drinks down the street but never heard from the host. After 2 hours we returned to the restaurant only to be told it would likely be another hour. But when we inspected the wait list, everyone around us (including several parties our size) had been seated long ago. It was clear they were just seating walk-ins and not honoring the list. Obviously we left as at that point we were starving, but they assured us that next time we should just call for a reservation... but not day of, as they didn't honor those requests. Apparently they don't honor wait list either. IMO they either need to determine they're offering reservations and go all-in, perhaps with a third-party system, or just up their organization on the whole. The food here is fantastic as is the ambience, but the service leaves a LOT to be desired. Unless you can secure a reservation (well in advance) I'd recommend going somewhere else. read more

Wow! What a gem in a neighborhood full of gems! This place is unmarked but worth uncovering. We live in the neighborhood but kept forgetting about it until recently and we've now been twice within about a month. First time we sat in the cosy front room, and the second time we were able to dine outside. Service is very warm and attentive. Everything we ordered, from the cocktails to the dessert was really, very good. The menu changes often, but at both meals we loved the garlic bread and the trout pate. Pro tip: absolutely get the garlic bread. They're known for it and trust me it won't disappoint. I also recommend asking the waiters for recommendations they all have tasted the menu and gave great recommendations. This was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered taking into consideration worldwide travel. We made reservations for dinner and it was clear on the website that reservations were for indoor seating and folks without reservations could sit outdoors. We were surprised upon arrival that we were seated outdoors. We asked about indoor seating and were told none was available. We were concerned about the weather forecast which showed impeding rain on the radar (it indeed did rain). We asked what would happen if it rained and were told the owner would come speak to us. The owner approached our table and we were told to leave because we were being "rude" to the staff. I can't figure out how asking polite questions could be construed as rude. The owner became quite abusive and we quietly left. We enjoyed a lovely meal elsewhere. Considering the entrees on the menu were in the $40-$50 range I was thankful to avoid more abuse and then getting rained on. Looking at other reviews, it's clear that the establishment has a serious problem honoring reservations. Thankfully, there are countless dining options in Baltimore where paying guests are treated with civility and respect. read more

I was torn between giving Peter's 4 or 3 stars, but I am settling on 3 and this is why. My boyfriend and I moved to Butcher's Hill and all of our neighborhood friends raved about this place! So naturally for my boyfriends birthday that was his first choice for our night out. We went on Wednesday, their 1/2 price wine night. We were told that it gets packed and you have to wait for a table so we went really early and got there at 6:15PM. No one was there at that time so we grabbed a seat outside. My boyfriend said it smelled like trash, however inside the tables were so close together, we still felt outside was better. It wasn't until our server came to us that we realized the kitchen didn't open till 6:30. All the times I went to their website I don't remember ever seeing this? Then again their website is atrocious. Their menus were hand written on college ruled paper and photocopied.... what? If you are charging on average $20 a plate shouldn't you have a nicer presentation of the menu? I could hardly read it! The food... our friends told us to get the salad and bread to start. It was really really good! Great portion for the two of us to share. My boyfriend ordered the bay scallops, he only got 4 scallops and a pile of black lentils, the flavor was amazing, but my man can eat and this was not going to be enough. I ordered the tuna nachos, it was an appetizer, but again it was tiny. It consisted of 5 wontons, with a slice of tuna, cucumber and beat with wasabi dressing on top. It was good, but I have had this at many other restaurants. So nothing special to me. Overall, we weren't completely stuffed when we left, the food all tasted great and was cooked to perfection, the wine was cold, and the company was amazing. Being only a block and a half away from my house, I'm surprised it took me over two years to finally make it here! Glad I finally made the trip. Food: Watermelon & Manchego Salad: very refreshing. Perfect summer salad. Garlic Bread: So tasty! Almost like pesto topping. Lots of herbs and flavor! Fried Oysters with Bacon Dust: I was sold at bacon dust! These were perfect. Crunchy outside, moist inside. Seasoned well. Orange Braised Scallops with black lentils: Loved the hint of orange with each bite of scallop! Halibut with purple potatoes: fish was cooked perfectly. Very flavorful dish. Pots de creme: rich and decadent. Coffee gelato for balance Ice cream sandwich: yum! Vanilla AND coffee gelato sandwiched between two white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. Atmosphere: Hmm. So it has this unique "Baltimore Funk" kinda vibe to it. Somewhat comparable to Heninger's just a few blocks down. Has the old row home smell. Bathroom is interesting....5 different lotions, bottle of mouthwash...feels like a bathroom at someone's house. And some unique artwork in the bathroom lol. Price: The food was great but I feel the prices could have been a slight bit lower. I feel like you pay for atmosphere and such when dining; Peter's lacked a bit of the ambiance I associate with those kind of prices. Service: Excellent! Peter's has been on my list for years and I finally got there a few weeks ago. The word on the street has always been that Peter's is a neighborhood place with outstanding food, and notoriously smug service. I'd say that's pretty accurate. Peter's is a tiny bar, with maybe 7-8 tables for dining? We had no problem being seated, but I can see this being an issue on busier nights. Tables are very close together and it gets fairly loud in there, but I appreciated it as part of the neighborhood bar charm. The food was definitely the star. We shared Mussels in a Bouillabaisse cream - they were divine. So so so tasty - we had to ask for more bread to sop up every last ounce of the broth. I had the day boat scallops with VA ham on a celery root puree and they were just killer - perfectly cooked, great portion (4 U10s), excellent presentation. Only complaint in this department is my friend had been raving about the beet salad (she's a regular, and the salad is her favorite dish) and she was completely disappointed to find that they had changed the recipe and presentation, delivering a MUCH smaller salad than in the past that was served in almost a wide-ish rocks glass that made it really difficult to consume. The portion was also tiny for $10.50. She did complain and the waitress was less than sympathetic, but she did take it off the bill and offered to replace it with something else. We were there for 1/2 price wine night - several bottles are listed as half off, can't beat that. I would say in general that the pricing was a touch on the high side - even though the quality of the food was awesome, I'm not sure the premium applies when considering the atmosphere and service, but the specials make it worth it. I would definitely recommend Peter's - there are some quirks (would be 5 stars without them) but if you love food and are willing to look past them, it's really a no brainer. read more

I had heard good things about Peters Inn and date night was calling. 1. The combo of the burrata with roasted mini tomatoes was amazing. The portion of burrata was about the size of a baseball and delicious. Served with something green and balsamic vinegar. Yes. Always. 2. Get the garlic bread. Even it you get a slice to split. It's $2.50 for one, and delicious! 3. Beets are my favorite. The purple and yellow beets with walnuts, A PANKO FRIED BLEU CHEESE BALL, and leafy greens was top notch!!! Out. Of. This. World. Good! 4. Even though it's small, the restaurant was always busy. It must be a sign the food is good. I'm pretty sure everyone as they were leaving was thanking the staff and "'mmm!ing" on their way out. read more

So glad this is back open!! One of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore for the past 20 years. Menu changes weekly and there are always multiple things I want to try. On this occasion, we had short ribs over gnocchi and lamb chops. Can't pass up the salad and garlic bread! No reservations so arrive early or expect to wait. read more

Ambience: Cute spot! Wonderful outdoor tables. Indoors pretty dark and narrow. Service: We had a great server! She recommended the pork to me and it was definitely the way to go. Food: started with the bread and salad! This is a must. Bf had the steak ($35) and it was overcooked, which was a shame for the price. Veggies weren't cooked as much as I like. My pork dish, however, was amazing. The meat fell right off the bone. The cheesy grits were so good and I ate the entire plate clean! Verdict: Adorable spot for a date night dinner! This is a phenomenal restaurant and one of the best in Baltimore. I have eaten in the restaurant multiple times (pre-coronavirus times) and ordered takeout multiple times during coronavirus times. Before going to the restaurant: Highly recommend making reservations! This is a very popular and small space. The first time I went, there was a sign saying that they were fully booked for the night. Drinks/Bar They make solid cocktails. They will also make additional drinks that aren't on their cocktail menu. Food All of the food is PHENOMENAL!! Of note, the menu changes on a regular basis, but here are the various things we've had. - The trout pate appetizer is so delicious. It's creamy and very flavorful, and they give you a big portion. I actually order it for pick-up sometimes to eat at home (it's great in the morning as breakfast)! - Their burrata appetizer is also excellent. - Short ribs are so so incredible and flavorful and melt in your mouth. - Their bay scallops are amazing! - Lobster Roll: OMG! Soooo good. I think it's just as good as the lobster rolls at Thames Oyster House (which is my favorite), but for a much lower price. It also comes with a delicious side of macaroni salad, which I can't get enough of. - Cheesecake: for a while, they had an amazing goat cheese beet cheesecake, and wow! That one dessert was probably one of the best desserts I've ever had in my life. I still think about it months later. - They are vegetarian friendly. I brought one of my friends here, and they created a delicious vegetarian pasta (that wasn't on their menu) for her. Overall, this is one of my all time favorite restaurants! read more

Just had their takeout for dinner and its by far the best date night take out we've had during COVID. The salad and garlic bread were delicious as always. The curry aioli with fries was amazing as was the pot au feu! The manhattans were perfect. We love Peter's! read more

Peter's Inn is one of those places that you just might walk right by if you don't already know about it, or at least the owners would like to keep it that way. It's small, just a few tables outside on the sidewalk, a few more inside next to a bar that will hold a dozen maybe, and then an even smaller room near the back with a couple more tables. Needless to say, this place ain't where you bring your 21st birthday party. On busy nights, and that's most nights, it's crowded and service can be hard to come by, but the staff is, for the most part, very helpful and friendly. Peter's is the kind of restaurant that may have reached its capacity, but adding one square foot of space to it would probably ruin the vibe they've created. Bartender Colby, no relation to the cheese, is a bit of a conundrum, she's a good bartender (turned me on to a wonderful tequila when they didn't have my first choice), but doesn't suffer small talk with her customers or anyone from what I could tell. The physical plant is old school kitsch; sail fish strung with Christmas lights on the wall, hand written chalkboard menu that isn't always easy to read, rich woody, dark interior and lots of little art pieces jammed in where they can fit. They might as well just have a "locals only" sign on the door, cuz the local support is more than enough to keep the whole staff running on most nights. Come on down if you want, and I do recommend it if even for just drinks, just know that you're coming to Peter's party and not the other way round. read more
