Getting my husband recently into gin cocktails was a huge win, because it finally gave me someone to go to Dutch Courage with! I'm so glad. The service was top-notch from the moment we walked in. The hostess even gave us a little tour so we could decide where we wanted to sit. On our first visit, we chose the bar and completely lucked out, we got to meet the cocktail master and some of the other staff while they were doing tasting tests. They walked us through the history and inspiration behind the cocktails and creations, which made the experience feel so much more personal. The atmosphere is lovely. I started with the Japanese Breakfast, which was tart and boozy, while my husband got the Pineapple Express, which had such a unique flavor. I didn't love the fizz, but he absolutely did! We then asked our server for recommendations and ended up with the Duck Season for me and the Spanish Moss for him. The Spanish Moss was a little too sweet for my taste, but the Duck Season was, without exaggeration, one of the most interesting things I've ever tasted. It was savory, rich, and deep, almost velvety and chocolate-like, despite not actually being chocolate. The entire combination of flavors was incredible. On our next visit, we sat outside, and the ambiance was just as wonderful. This time we tried a Stranger in Paradise and an I'm a Baijiu A Drink, and both had incredibly detailed and thoughtful flavor profiles. I haven't been to Dutch Courage in so long but stopped in last weekend for a round of drinks with friends. As always, the service is topnotch and the atmosphere is lovely. Both the indoor and outdoor area is beautifully decorated with antiques. I love the unique glassware too. I ordered the "Japanese Breakfast" which was a tart and boozy sipper with an egg white foam. It was good but not as refreshing as I'd hoped. Sometimes I have trouble reading the menu here due to some of the more niche ingredients they use and it can be hard to know what the final product will taste like. This is such a cute spot! I loved how it was decorated, casual but elegant. I got there past five and there weren't too many people but the bartender was super nice. There's street parking pretty available throughout here. My partner's drink mirrored an old-fashioned and he really enjoyed it as well. It gets busy on the weekends however, you usually can grab a seat in the back or at the bar. Both my visits here have only been for drinks. We sat at the bar this time and after reviewing the cocktail list, we ordered our drinks. It took our bartender 22 mins to come back with my drink (Widow in the Sunlight) and to inform my friend they didn't have an ingredient for his. The bartender was so friendly and the menu so impressive, honestly wanted to try everything on the menu! We had 2 cocktails each - one of them being the PSL Ramos Gin Fizz which I urge everyone to try at least once. The smoothest cocktail I have ever had. Apparently it is also one of the hardest to make because it takes lots of manual shaking for the egg whites to blend - I saw they have a machine now to do the shaking part which is really cool! My family is of Dutch ancestry, so I was excited to find Dutch Courage, especially to find Genever (which is hard to find). In that regard, I was very happy as they had a wide selection of Genevers, I was able to create my own flight, and was even able to purchase a bottle. Where my visit was lacking was in the service and the food. I sat at the bar and there seemed to be four bartenders and a manager working on a relatively slow Sunday night. It was difficult to get their attention as they went from standing around talking amongst themselves to all four (and the manager at times) working heads down on cocktails to the exclusion of other customers. With the food, I tried ordering the gouda cheese board, but they were out. For dessert, I tried ordering the pumpkin roll, but they were out. As my entree, I got the pork loin, sweet potato puree, turnips, apple rum sauce, but it obviously had been sitting for a while before being served to me; the pork was cold, the sauce was congeled, and there were juices on the plate running from the pork. I had waited so long to get it, it wasn't worth saying something about it. I also ordered a glass of wine, and the first bottle they poured from had gone bad, so they had to open another. Seems like when it comes to anything but the cocktails, they're working out the kinks. The atmosphere was great, the selection wide, and the servers were friendly (when I had their attention), so I'll definitely be back. It's not like there are many places I can go for Genever, let alone buy it. I do hope they get things more organized with the service and food though. read more

We've come here for drink before and comparing the two experiences I was so let down by the pairings. I would come here on just a regular night when they're not hosting an event, let the bartenders work their magic and make something for you based on you. The only gin bar in the state and you absolutely have to visit! It's an excellent date idea because you can create your own gin tasting experience with the help of the staff (i.e.,recommendations and history/cool facts). It has a cozy, relaxed feel plus there's an outside patio in the back - it's heated in the winter so it's in use all year. I'm a big fan of the little details like the cool hand-bound leather menus, not to mention their carefully curated options for food and drinks. We stopped by after dinner so I didn't get to try any of the food but we had a few different cocktails and tasted some extremely rare gins that were all delicious. 1000000/10 experience! It's actually quite light and bright with an amazing patio. It has excellent charm and immaculate vibes with great service cute and quaint little nooks where you can have drinks with your friends, drinks with a partner, or a drink by yourself at the bar. The cocktails are creative, well thought out, and well balanced. It has the biggest selection of gin (including rare, local and regional) that you'll find anywhere in the city and probably the state. Finally at the "courage" to give this gin bar a try. After a successful hbcu night at the orioles. I decided to continue the night with my wife at Dutch courage which is a gin based bar. The bar is located next to an apartment complex so if you're not paying attention you may miss It. You are welcomed by a heavy door to a comfy bar area with a solid bar space and open seating. I spent a couple of minutes looking at my menu since I don't like gin so I definitely had a lot of questions for my bartender but I appreciate his patience. I ended up ordering the delmonico which reminds me of a manhattan. It is blended well with gin and cognac aromatics and bitters. This is a grown man drink. Fortunately, our bartender was able to split our cocktails into two that way my friend and I can try most of the cocktails on their menu. I would definitely come back here. The burnt rosemary garnish not only gave an earth full and smoky aroma, but the cocktail itself with the blackberry and lemon was so fruity with hints of herbs and licorice. Quick visit to Baltimore, and my daughter suggested that we have cocktails here. She and her partner really like this spot, and they know I'm a gin guy, so this was top of the list. Named after the original gin name - the British called gin Dutch Courage - it's mainly a gin forward bar but with lots of other spirits too. I love coming here for drinks and bites and sitting at the bar to talk and learn. This was the first time I've had their bigger plate and the pork chop was spectacular and well priced for $32 a plate. The cranberry bourdelais was juicy and added this sweet tartness. Because it's such a popular place service is often slow and it can be frustrating with larger groups. The holidays are probably the most fun time to visit Dutch Courage as they go all out with their glassware and decorations (they even close one day to decorate). This was an unexpected late night vibe. My friends and I popped in around like midnight on Friday. It's definitely a cozy, intimate vibe. Since it was late we were only able to get the boards but they did not disappoint. I got the Tenorio board and the Nuri.
