I actually did some work for this business which is part of my daily duties to assist the residents and businesses here in the local government I work for. I strive to do the job to the best of my ability and doing so the owner was so happy that I could help his business out he asked me if I wanted anything to eat? What do you think I said? Sure why not.. I got a combo meal which included whiting fish, shrimp, scallops, French fries and hush puppies, I also got a bottle of juice. The food was pretty good and definitely filling. I've been to Peter's Seafood twice. My first time, I was a bit overwhelmed with their fish selection. I was expecting a more familiar fishes like tilapia and tuna, but the fishes were all new to me. I was planning to buy shrimp so the fish selection does not bother me a lot. The prices were decent. The only thing that would've been nicer is if the shrimp still have their heads. I know some people does not like shrimp with heads, but I prefer cooking the shrimps with heads since it is more flavorful. I came back the second time to order fish and have it fried. I was overwhelmed again with their fish selections, but the staff were friendly and was helpful with my questions regarding which fish is best for frying. I purchased my regular, fried crabs and I was extremely disappointed. For weeks they have not been large, which is what I'd been paying for but I didn't complain because I know its not quite the season. I didn't complain when I saw they were "putting together" crabs, sticking an arm here and there. However, tonight was just ridiculous. My crabs smelled like ammonia. I didn't eat them because I knew I'd get sick. Talk about being disappointed. I noticed the first one was broken away and they are usually fried in an actual pair. I started breaking all of the dough away because I don't need it. When I revealed the crab, as I was bringing it to my mouth to eat, I could smell something was not right. Peter's used to be the best seafood in Portsmouth but Nina is never there now and it is suffering! The new lady does not fry the food well; definitely not the way they used too. You can call and pay for your order and still have to wait after they mess up your order. I was left disappointed after my last three visits, wasted money and time! The establishment itself was not the most appealing. But that's expected in my perspective with a place that sells live crabs and such. But the employees were very nice. The food was reasonably priced, especially since they are selling crabs.
