What a great experience we had at Round Rock Tavern. We came for their sister bar, Hoot & Annie's month-long Star Wars pop-up. It was so peaceful sitting on the rooftop and watching the town move about below us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior of the tavern is a neighborhood live music venue/pub with a nice sized stage and dance floor, two bars, photo booth and more.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came in on an early Thursday evening (dinner time) and business wasn't too busy, a few others in attendance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were prepping for a busy evening ahead as they tend to get packed when musicians are performing. Everyone working from the manager to the bartenders were so incredibly nice and treated us as though we've always known each other. It's that total Round Rock friendly vibe. Prices are really affordable, especially during happy hour. The frozens are tasty! This was my first visit to Round Rock Tavern and I was surprised, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I only noticed one accessible table and the rest are all bar height or in the raised area[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but this place makes up for it in so many other ways. After my friend and I had lunch, she wanted to go Street surfing (visit local Round Rock businesses). We stopped at Round Rock Tavern, a popular bar and live music venue located in downtown Round Rock, Texas. My friend said it was known for it's a bar & grill and nightlife spot with live music (Thursday through Sunday), karaoke (usually early in the week), sports viewing, and DJs. Beware of ICE/DHS checking IDs at the door.!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have never felt so unwelcome walking into a bar in my life.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am 65 years old and clearly look it, yet the security guard treated me like I was trying to sneak into a federal building. He demanded my ID, scanned it, shined a flashlight on it, and then literally held it up next to my face to compare the photo. This is a neighborhood bar, not airport security. When I showed mild frustration by rolling my eyes, he escalated the situation, got in my face, and threatened to kick me out for having a "bad attitude." That kind of power trip is completely unprofessional and unnecessary, especially toward someone who is obviously decades over 21. Unfortunately, the attitude inside matched the door. The bartenders were consistently rude and dismissive, not just to me but to others ordering drinks. No friendliness, no hospitality, just irritation that customers existed. I understand bars have to check IDs, but there is a respectful way to do it. This place chooses intimidation over customer service. There are plenty of better spots in Round Rock where you can grab a drink without being treated like a suspect. read more

After what we experienced at this establishment yesterday, I will not be returning. The behavior displayed by Josh, a manager/door bouncer, was deeply unprofessional and escalated a situation that could have been easily resolved with basic communication and de-escalation skills. Do better Josh and check your inflated ego at the door when you show up for work! At no point was he verbally or physically threatened, yet he chose to involve RRPD and provide them with a version of events that simply wasn't true. This not only put our group in an uncomfortable and unnecessary situation but it also reflected extremely poor judgment on his part. To the real managers and owners of this place: please consider better training for your employees to help provide a safe and inclusive environment for everyone - not just some. I understand a business has the right to ask anyone to leave their establishment - just as we, as customers, have the right to never spend another dollar where we've felt disrespected and lied on. I went out with my family on Sunday August 3rd to enjoy a fun day together, but instead, we were treated with clear disrespect and discrimination. It quickly became obvious that we were not welcome -- not because of anything we did, but simply because of our race. We were essentially thrown out for no justifiable reason. No one should have to experience this kind of treatment in 2025 -- or ever. This business should be held accountable for fostering or tolerating such behavior. I hope they take a serious look at their practices and the people they employ. We will never return, and I urge others to consider carefully where they spend their time and money. Did you know that you can play slot machines here? It's true! They have a smoky little room filled wall to wall with slot machines! Every time I visit the Tavern, I take a peek inside this room and it is always at least half full of people all smoking cigarettes and playing video slots. Now personally, I have never played the slots here because I cannot stand cigarette smoke. But to each their own, right? Aside from slots, there is a food trailer out back that serves the best smash burgers in Round Rock. They also have a couple of sub-bars, Escobar and Hoot & Annie. Escobar is upstairs and overlooks Main Street & Blair Street. Hoot & Annie is below Escobar and serves up really fancy cocktails. Sometimes, they even have crawfish boils. Oh, and live bands. Always crowded, always fun! I've been here a few times, and just realized I've never written a review. I generally go because there's a band I want to dance to. Last night, the cover band, Dysfunction Junction was playing. We arrived as they were just going on break, but the tavern continues fun music while the bad is away. Everyone was dancing and having a good time. There's a mix of ages which I think is fun. The Tavern feels small because it's always packed. There are long tables to sit at which point toward the stage. The sound seems to be mixed well. I have a good time every time I go here, so I'll keep coming back. Disgusting place. Dirty, and over priced drinks. Music was so so. They also have an old door guy who is either racist, or plain senile . Me and my sister were asked to leave with zero reason as to why. When I asked why, he wouldn't give an answer. I was drinking WATER. My sister had bought her first drink. Again, I reiterate that the room was full of clearly drunk, some disorderly, people. And we, and only we, were asked to leave for some mystery reason that couldn't be told. Absolutely love the renovations and new additions to round rock tavern. The same owners now have the original, yet newly updated bar, Hoot & Annie the speakeasy, and the new bar upstairs. My friends and I visited the speakeasy on a Friday night around 9:30 and easily got a table, even though the venue is quite small. The cocktails were impressive! It'll be interesting to see how this type of bar fairs in round rock. I hope it does well...it's a great spot for a date night. The bartenders don't just "make a drink" here- they are truly mixologists. Expect $10-15 cocktails...but the amount of effort put into each drink justifies the cost. I overheard a security guard say to one of the ladies "this is what they do" and that hurt me to the core. They couldn't give the family a reason why! I saw the cops were called too. The General Manager of the Tavern abuses his power and instigates fights in the bar Me and My friend went to the tavern tonight and got kicked out within 5 mins because the General Manager what had happened was my friend was just checking the bathroom to see how full it was and the GM just so happened to be in line he proceeded to put his hands on my friend and started to try and push him around and proceeded to call my friend names and other words were used my friend obviously shoved his hands of of him and then proceeded to exchange a few words but ultimately my friend walked away the GM then proceeded to follow us to our friends and then say he is the GM and I'm kicking you out. This is a complete abuse of power and not a good look because why is your GM trying to fight and manhandle the guests. read more

A guest with us was turned away because he was wearing sweatpants. The manager stated that the dress code was posted online. The dress code online does not mention sweatpants. It does, however, state that they don't allow ripped or torn jeans, sleeveless tops, visibly displayed undergarments, and excessive jewelry. My 3 stars are based off the 3 visits I've had thus far. First time around, I thought the bartender seemed annoyed that I ordered a mixed drink. It felt like he avoided me when I came back to order. It was not a warm welcome for my first time being in the bar. Second time around, I was charged twice for my drinks. $150 total! I started coming here for the karoke competition and what a great place it is! There is a very friendly atmosphere, clean well designed restrooms and two different outdoor areas if you want to escape the music and have a chat. The drinks are fair to good if you know what to order. I enjoyed the lemon drop and shots seem to be popular here. I don't drink beer but they have quite a few on tap. The stage is awesome with great lighting and a good sound system so karaoke has been fantastic! I hope they will continue on with it! read more

Cool spot in the heart of downtown Round Rock. There was live music playing and there were plenty of people. The crowd was of all ages which I found almost strange but also welcoming. The bartender was nice but the drink he made me kind of sucked. He did tell us a bout their speakeasy though called Hoot and Annie which was around the corner, downstairs and that is where we spent most of our night. It was almost like an eclectic gentleman's club. There were leather seats, good music, it smelled great, the bartenders served up a larger, more unique selection of drinks, and the crowd was bit younger. It was a very nice place to spend the night though I must say, the drinks still sucked lol. The bartenders obviously knew what they were doing but the flavors did not work at all. Even reading through them, the flavors combinations seemed off but I figured I had better try one before making up my mind and yep, not great. Still a really cool spot to chill though. read more
