A friend of mine invited me to hear some Latin music at Sociedad in Round Rock, TX. She was meeting several of her friends at the restaurant. The venue is a cocina (Mexican kitchen) and tequila bar. Solciedad is the reimagined version of the longtime Alcove Cantina, which reopened in April 2026 with a refreshed interior, revamped menu, and an expanded tequila and mezcal selection while keeping its role as a local nightlife venue. Sociedad is divided into three main areas...front, back and side all with different purposes. The front area looks primarily like a bar with side seating. You likely are in this section for a Tequila tasting or drink with conversation. The back room was more like a concert-like area with an open ceiling. You literally could see the stars from this section of the restaurant. I listened to some rhythm and blues and find the band to be smooth and sexy. However, my friends were in the last section, where a DJ was spinning Latin tunes. While it was fun to see my friends, it was totally slow boogie. The songs lasted too long, and we only heard a few songs that were familiar. I ordered a frozen Margarita, but they were out of Margarita. I have never been to a Mexican food restaurant that did not serve Margaritas. So, I then ordered some guacamole and chips, which I shared with my friends. After one set of music, we decided to leave the restaurant. Service was pretty good at the restaurant. Although our server was acting as server and bartender simultaneously. A drastic change from the Alcove. The decor upgrades are nice. Change can be good but not in this situation. The menu selection was reduced and the prices increased. We order the shrimp tacos, taco salad, and chips/salsa. I am conflicted if the objective is: bar food, up scale Mexican, or something. This place used to have excellent food. I would drive out of the way to eat here. I went in after the rebranding and the prices jumped up and the quality took a dive. My husband and I dropped in for a quick bite and each ordered their Shrimp à la Diabla tacos which the menus said came with lime rice for $14. We got 2 tacos on corn tortillas with 3 shrimp on top of about 2 Tbsp of rice and a little bit of red sauce on top. To make matters worse the tortillas fell apart when you bit into them. Worst presentation I've ever seen. No fixings for the tacos, just rice and shrimp. Talk about no frills. The bar just keeps getting lower and lower for some of these local restaurants in RR. I am sorely disappointed! This one is an absolute miss. I used to be an Alcove regular- loved their margaritas. Loved their tamale. I showed up one day and the entrance was closed. They wanted patrons to walk around the corner to enter through the back. This was apparently during their construction. I did not go in and instead, I went across the street to a different spot. I returned the following week to discover the Alcove was gone and had become Sociedad. This was my first time here. If you sit outside at the patio, you order at the bar. They do deliver the food. It's a nice sized patio, and the live band was good. The prickly pear margarita was delicious and refreshing. My chicken taquitos were a little overcooked, and I couldn't taste any cheese. The salsa needed salt. I came here during the week to meet up with a friend after work for Happy House. The bartender was also our server and she was very friendly and helpful. Their menu had many margaritas but I got the Dragonberry Mojito. It was very fruity and sweet, which the server had warned me about, so I was pleased but I only had one. My friend had a frozen house margarita and she liked it a lot. We also had the chicken flautas and the quesadilla. The food came out quickly and I'll say it was all right. Not the best but not the worst. Afterwards, I ordered my own house margarita on the rocks but it came frozen. It wasn't a big deal to me so I had it. I'll say that even though the food isn't the best, the drinks are pretty good and decently priced. I'd come back for HH and maybe an appetizer but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place for lunch or dinner. I was in RR with my husband and we stopped in for dinner. I'm gluten and dairy free. I worked with the staff to be able to eat a meal here. I wouldn't recommend for someone with an allergy. I ordered the barbacoa tacos. I did end up with cheese on my beans. I didn't eat it and they got me a separate cup without cheese. My husband got the beef enchiladas meal. Stopped here on the way back from Austin to Dallas. The inside was full, so we sat in the outdoor area. It's pretty cool out there. They have live music most nights. Dog friendly patio. But the seats are so tall, it's not a great option with a dog. I do wish there were some lower seats. I would be here much more often if that were the case. It's not a problem when not with my dog. The food here is very good. The drinks are good and cheap during HH. The only real drawback is the service. You have to order at the bar and sometimes it's chaos. Sometimes there is live music or karaoke. Karaoke is always entertaining if not quality, then humorous. read more

We were a party of seven plus a dog--were told to head outside to the patio with the dog, but can me back inside to the bar to order. No problem. We ordered multiple apps to share but no official meals. On a Saturday lunchtime, there were only a handful of customers indoors and more than one person working the bar. Disappointing that once food was delivered, no one came out to check on us. We WOULD have re-ordered drinks all around--maybe more han twice! I chose the Alcove limeade, and a second visit would be worth it for this refreshing libation alone. The complimentary salsa wasn't spicy enough for my taste, and the rice was too salty (proving the rice is homemade). I'm betting my next visit will earn all 5 stars. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go in downtown Round Rock for many reasons. They have really great happy hour specials and prices, they have an outdoor patio/bar/seating options. There is often have live music during the week and weekends. All the food I've tried is always delicious and large portions. One of my staples is the chicken taco, it tastes so fresh and yet has the savory flavor of an open flame cook on the chicken. The queso in either portion size option is delicious. Outside on the back patio you will have to order at the bar and they bring it to you but it's fast and quick service. Came by on a Monday night, which is all day happy hour! The inside was completely empty but we still chose to sit on the patio due to covid. The patio had 5-6 other groups on it but all the tables were perfectly spaced and we felt comfortable. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce and was super pleased! It does have a bit of a kick, like they added some jalapeño seeds, but it was still mouth watering. My friend has shrimp tacos and seriously finished them before I could even finish my soup. Solid first visit into Downtown RR for my local Austin self before my husband and I went to Dell Diamond for a game. We decided to stop in the cute DTRR area to explore the scenes and food and drinks and the area did not disappoint. First, if you're worried about street parking and notice how packed it is, say no more! There is a parking garage where folks park their cars and then walk to all the business which is what we did when heading to the Alcove. We went in and were surprised to see it was a seat yourself kinda thing and then noticing everything in the AC and inside being snagged and single seats at the bar, forced us to go outside. Luckily there was some shaded tables and bar seating outside so we sat ourselves down. There are plenty of fans that they turned on as the peak sun hitting down made the outside stuffy and with moving air made sitting out and about more tolerable. They do well with having such a good crowd to meet together after work to catch up and have fun, it even seemed there was a bar bar area behind closed doors for 21+. Husband and I got tacos and beans and rice and they were delicious. Chips and salsa, frozen margs from HH and beers on tap, what more could you ask for? I have to admit, their street corn and the tres leches cake were my highlights. I got shrimp tacos and hubs got the chicken fajita tacos, yum.
